All were stars at that point, but there’s something quite amazing about Lansbury, never had to rely on beauty, she had such talent, even with the same choreography, everything she does stands out as being that much better, perfect, a real pro. An amazing talent that surely will be missed from the Broadway and film community!

@@haranoe Yes, yes all that I have been in on for decades. But a star is a space object first. Actors got that title for the early actors did shine. Studios promoted them to bring in vast audiences. Money was the Boss! From 1988 to current crop of actors don't shine as the first actors did. Now actors are independent individuals. Studios don't control actors as once did. Language is just to much in a state of flux. Rigid isn't the answer, but a star is too high of a word. Entertainers is better.

So I stand by the statement in that context not as in an every day lives context just dont read into it that way as it isnt ment in anything other than being in the public eye on an awards night to which you need to be dressed appropriately

Loved this. The three looked fabulous and noticed how Miss Lansbury is much taller than the other two. Many think she's little and petite when she's really tall and lanky.

This was really cute and the women obviously practiced. Enjoyed it very much. As for the reaction of some of the stars, I think the explanation is not that they have no humor, but that they are extremely tense on Oscar night, which is entirely understandable.

George I never thought of that. They were extremely tense at Oscar night which explains their serious reaction to the teasing!!

Shirley MacLaine seems alittle amused. Some performers can't take being joked about. They take themselves too seriously

How about Liz Taylor's reaction filmed in the audience? ..Any camera - zoom - in close up of her reaction is nowhere🧐🕵️🙄 ..A *major* screw - up from the camera crew .. they must have been asleep at the controls.🎥😴💤🤔🙄😟👎👎👎.. . A moment in time .. lost forever 😞.. due to *gross* *negligence*....Her face reacting😤 would have been perfect for creating a continuous loop .🎞️non - stop entertainment right there😆😆😆😆🤭🤭🤭🤭😏
. seeing her face reacting would have been PRICELESS!

by the look on the women pointed out in the audience, this form of humor did not go over in 1959 any better than in 2021.

as a younger person i used to watch all the big awards shows on tv for movies and music. actors back then were usually trained in acting and singing for a wider range of roles, unlike more of them today that do one or the other most of the time

Angela Lansbury came to Australia about 9 years ago with James Earl Jones to star in Driving Miss Daisy. It was an honour to see both of them perform on stage. I believe Angela was actually older than the character she played.
