The 1st male dancer to enter is Ron Field, who choreographed the number. The 2nd male dancer is Tom Rolla, who later founded and owned Tom Rolla's Gardenia Supper Club in Hollywood. Ron died in 1989. Tom died on December 26, 2017. I watched this production on TV with my mother & father in 1968. Tom was my older brother. Our hometown was Philadelphia, PA. Rest in Peace, Tom ...........Dominic A. AMAZING that she can hold one leg up and balance on a high heel with the other ... TWICE . And then do the SPLITS! You go, Angela!!! Stunning performance!
i can't even walk in heels without fallin an breakin ma hip she's an awesome talented creature dancing all about on those tiny heels like a delicate fairy, making it seem effortless an easy a delight to see!
This is absolutely WONDERFUL! Anyone who only knows Angela Lansbury as an older woman on TV's "Murder She Wrote" are in for a great shock when they watch this. Angela Lansbury could certainly sing and dance up a storm when she was young! I love that part where she does the SPLITS - oh my gosh, this is great camp! Love it!
I never get tired of watching this number! I was in front of my TV set watching this in 1967 and knew it was the closest I would ever get to seeing Lansbury in MAME. I love the fact that she's singing the song with an overhead mike. She really goes old style - brilliant style - in this!
And just a few years before she was the ultimate mother from hell and master manipulator in The Manchurian Candidate. Right now, at age 88, she is gearing up for a return ton the London stage in BLITHE SPIRIT. Phenomenal!
Lucy was always a much bigger star than Angela Lansbury that’s why. The film bombed not because of Lucy but because of the lousy director and even worse script.
@@vully70 Lucy could most definitely sing, despite her self-deprecating humor. In fact, after first starting out as a model in 1929, she went on to perform on Broadway and later as a chorus girl on radio programs. ruclips.net/video/lWrbQR2aC0E/видео.html
One of the greatest multi-talented actresses of all-in-one time! And a very gorgeous one too! I hope and pray the Oscar organization Will give this highly -respected actress of movies, theatre, and t.v. their Honorary Oscar as Miss Lansbury deserves it so much. Miss Lansbury won her first Oscar nomination on her very ist movie Gaslight when she was 18.And two more nods followed suit, with no win. I think with Miss Lansbury's body of work, the Oscar would be a an icing on the cake.
Read Rex Reed's old review of the 1967 Academy Awards presentation. He said when 'Talk to the Animals" was announced as Best Song there was an audible "OH NO" in the audience.. but it didn't pick up on TV.. and Angela was the absolute highlight of the entire evening.
@@carysjenkins2844 It was in one of his first three books "Do You Sleep in the Nude", "Conversations in the Raw" or "People are Crazy Here".. can't recall which one..
she was very young at MGM.. but won an AA for "Picture of Dorian Gray" at age 20.. and watch her in "The Harvey Girls" 1946.age 21 and playing a hardened saloon "entertainer" she doesn't miss a trick.. I think she had a difficult time during the 1950s.. and got her footing again with "Manchurian Candidate" and "All Fall Down" Just incredibly talented.. she was a gift...
@@philipanderson4673 I’ve seen most of her movies😊 But she didn’t win an Oscar for Dorian Gray. She was nominated, as she was for Gaslight. And for Manchurian Candidate. Sure wish she had won an Oscar.
And she was actually allowed to take the bow and acknowledge the applause. Today she would have been whisked out off the stage and commercials would take over for 20 minutes....
Thank you for posting this, thought i'd seen most have Lansbury's performances (i'm nuts over here) haven't seen this one it's awesome, and Angie's quite foxy.
Dearest Angela Landsberry Thanks you from so many Woderful Films, and for all of your Stupendous Performances on The Gay Whit Way, you were a class Act, Rest in Heaven with all of the Angels.
Jack Warner denied Ethel Merman, Angela Lansbury, Barbara Cook, and Julie Andrews the opportunity to recreate their successful signature Broadway roles on film. A tremendous loss for film musicals.
This number should have convinced Warners she was the only person to play MAME onscreen. When asked, who should play in any remake of Auntie Mame, Roz Russell said the only person would have to be Cher! She said she was the only one madcap enough to pull it off in her opinion. Instead, they got that follies at the geriatric ward with Ball. Landbsury would have been great.
I love Angela Landsbury and great to see her perform a song from Throughly Modern Mille, but I do have to say that Julie Andrews really made it hers in the film. I would love to see a new production of this But who could fll those shoes, I don't know.
Angie and Julie Together! ruclips.net/video/A1aV-8MLpFQ/видео.html (Believe Dame Angela gave the eulogy, or at least one of them, at Bob Hope's funeral.)
I dunno. She's got this big kewpie-doll quality to her. That quality is positively sickening with Bernadette Peters; and somewhat raw for Lansbury. I like her best as Jessica Fletcher in MURDER SHE WROTE.
Well to each his own but in my opinion she was literally one of the greatest there ever was. In this role she was phenomenal and her body was incredible. Her body of work is almost unparalleled.

How wonderful to have this video of your brother absolutely killing it!
Thank you for the details!
Did Ron go on to direct Applause?
My god she was brilliant
The world is a dimmer place today. Rest in Peace Angela Landsbury ❤️
Beautiful ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
There aren't words to describe Dame Lansbury's talents. Is there anything this fine artist can't do?
Nothing comparable in history of Showbiz❤
AMAZING that she can hold one leg up and balance on a high heel with the other ... TWICE . And then do the SPLITS! You go, Angela!!! Stunning performance!
Well She was only 43 at the time so not such a big deal .. She was after all a trained dancer ....
@@Halcyondaze121 Let's see YOU do it....
only 43! not a big deal?
Angela has come and gone but her many wonderful performances will never be forgotten.
so wish there was more film available when she was at her peak as a singer and dancer.
She did the splits and sang and was not out of breath at all !
As I said earlier she was 43 and a trained dancer .. Probably she was used to that kind of exercise as was I .
i can't even walk in heels without fallin an breakin ma hip

Great voice. Great dancing. Great performance. Great pair of legs. A doll!!

She was 42!
She was glamourous. grateful I had the chance to see that glamour in Mame. Sorry there is so little good footage of her performance. We were robbed.

. . . I recall this onscreen at the time as well and completely agree. Thank You!
Amazing talent , happy 95th birthday .

Happy 96. Birthday, Dame Angela!
And Warner Bros. foolishly thought that Lucille Ball could pull off Mame at age 63! Lansbury would have blown audiences away!

lucille ball didn't have the depth Angela Lansbury had. It was a poor choice leaving us deprived of having angela on film.
She is really amazing. I love everything she does!
Angela was an OUTSTANDING all rounder, singer, dancer you name it - sadly missed💔
Yet she will live on forever.

I keep thinking about those boneheads at MGM who didn’t know what to do with her - and she went on to absolute superstardom on Broadway and TV

One of a kind legend....beside the movie in 1952 from Rosalind. Angela Lansbury is a golden iconic masterpiece

Man, that girls could move!

absoluta!
Doing some math -- was she 40 when this was televised? Wow, she had some great moves.
I really only became aware of her in her later career, but danm! I think something moved downstairs!
Forty-two
What was this for? The academy awards? The song was nominated??
Yes. The Oscars, 1968. The song was indeed nominated.
And just 5 years earlier she portrayed secret communist agent, Mrs. Iselin in The Manchurian Candidate.
💔💔💔
Nice to see her before the golden girls
She wasn't in The Golden Girls.
It should have won best song, Jimmy Van Heuse's brilliant tune.

What a travesty that she wasn't in Mame. Lucy was...well...Lucy. She was funny but couldn't sing. Same goes for Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady.
At Audrey Hepburn was charming......Lucy was a big flop. Love the musical Mame, watched Lucy all of 5 minutes....hated it....just hated it.
