And of course, the great Boris Karloff (the guy with the shovel, for those who didn't recognize him) died on Feb 2, 1969 - almost exactly 4 years after this performance (Jan 1965) was recorded.

I think the reason such clips are so "rare" is that it appears to be more lucrative to the rights holders to sit on their copyrights and license a fraction of 1% out to the rare documentary that wishes to use them, than to make them all available to us to begin with. So they sit and get forgotten, until anyone who might be interested is dead and gone.

For the record, the uploader is mistaken: this isn't "The Garry Moore Show" either. It's "The Entertainers," which was on CBS in 64/65, after she left Garry but before her own show. But the point stands that she was so often willing to take a risk for a laugh, and we can see the payoff.

@Commodore 64 This performance was from SIXTY YEARS AGO (I'm struggling to refrain from calling you what it is obvious to most of us that you are). It's unfortunate that you were born with a compete dearth of imagination, interest in sociology, history, and humor. I was born in 1963. Throughout my childhood and early twenties, I worked with the Historical Society, restoring homes from the early 1800s and conducting tours through them at the ripe old age of ten years, restoring antique automobiles to ORIGINAL condition (not hopping them up as hotrods), and collecting, restoring antique clothing which we then modeled in a show consisting of spicy fun and humorous commentary with interesting short historical stories of interest, a professional singer performing songs with musical accompaniment, and an authentic Chesleston, performed by my mother, a professional dancer and teacher into her 90s.
You, my dear, are out of your league. And if you do not know or understand what you are talking about, kindly refrain from rudely dismissing it out of hand. Try operating your brain before your mouth and fingers. There is a rich history of personal stories that anyone should be interested in exploring. For it is through history that we avoid repeating the mistakes of the past (such as Hitler and his Nazis arising in America), which is sheer stupidity. If the shoe fits...

@@kristieroybal4888 - You have no idea how hard I had to work NOT to respond to Commode 64, or whatever it's name is.
Glad I didn't, since your response was much better, and far more polite, than mine would have been.
Also, it seems you and I are about the same age.
I very much remember watching things on TV that I'm quite sure the younger crowd would have no appreciation for at all.
In fact, I just had a... er...um... "conversation" with someone concerning the old 1930s and '40s "Tarzan" movies, and Johnny Weissmuller...
The poor kid had no idea that anybody before Disney ever made a movie about the character. lol
Anyway, Carol Burnett, Dean Martin, and a whole host of other "fossils" were favorites of mine, even as a kid.

Variety Shows of the 1960s and into the 70s were regular television's life style. How fortunate we were with the American talents who built the entertainment industry beginning from the Vaudeville circuit and Broadway theatre progresses those to the Silent/Talkis movies then progresses onto the Box television, along with the developing of Jazz out of the south and major cities. Imagine all the range of those American talents from everywhere becoming the seasoned pros that were their own unique gifts. Americana entertainment on the Variety Shows. 🎭📣🎼🎹🎙🎤📻🎥🎞📽💿📀💽🎷🎺📺 Wow, Boris Karloff!

If I remember correctly Carol was leaving the show to star in a Broadway play and Gary, the cast and crew played the biggest prank on Carol on her final performance on the show. Remember, this was all in front of a live audience and being recorded! Gary did tell the audience what we all were about to see happen.
There were props that were missing or out of place, doors that didn't open and nothing was the way it had been rehearsed.
