Lurch is actually a savage when he talks in the show, he has very dry humor and understands everything that goes on. The best episodes are when the family helps him like when Morticia goes to the Butler’s Ball in disguise to dance with Lurch so he has a dance partner.
I just love whenever he does the whole body shudder.

The physical comedy in this show was so funny! Smoke coming out his ears when he puffs on the cigar. Man, I miss this kind of simplicity.
Definitely! I cracked up when Lurch knocked Gomez over when running to answer the phone out of habit.
It's like a cartoon in live-action!
Me tooooo
I still do that today and every time I smoke a friggin good cigar my family tells me to stop it...
I know, right? But the episode where Mortisha asks a guest if he minds if she smokes, and she doesn't actually light anything! She just smokes. I thought I might need help getting off the floor.
I absolutely love Lurch’s actor! He knows how to play the supernatural- ish character really well like Morticias actress did. He could have the deepest and most monotone voice but still portray what Lurch is feeling.
Of course his height is a big part of selling his character but the actor himself is what really brings Lurch to life (not literally of course)
Lurch saying "momma" melts my heart ❤
Ted Cassidy the Actor, ad libbed the line "You Raaaang!" Great comedic work here. They all sold it so well, camp but took the characters seriously.
@@Alvan81 and in this episode, Ted got to use some of his talent. I see him in many old oaters.

Wasn't he the Judge in My cousin vinny?
Morticia: exists
Gomez: "you drive me wild!"

i love the “you _____ it drives me wild!” gag about everything morticia does and gomez just falling over her.

Morticia: A very good servant

Gaea Ranee Ibanez Gomez?!
If you think about it Lurch really is the ideal butler. Fiercely loyal, good with the kids, not overly chatty, musical, and always in a cheerful disposition (aside from when his mother visits, and who wouldn't feel the same)
The episodes featuring Lurch are so good and funny. Ted Cassidy played that part so well. No other Lurch has had his charisma and "good looks" lol. They just can't copy the character he made his own. His portrayal of Lurch will always be the one I remember when I think of Lurch. He gave the character body.
Ted Cassidy had such a presence about him. Yes,he was VERY handsome, but there was just something else about him. He carried himself better then much smaller men. He had charisma, charm.

I saw some 'behind the scenes' thing about this show a couple of years ago. Carolyn Jones was a VERY accomplished actress......and she apparently LOVED playing Morticia.
I highly recommend you watch Carolyn Jones Morticia and more. A great biography special on her and her career. She loved doing the character and the show because it was so much fun and unlike many other shows at the time with its very weird, witty macabre humor.
Her sister was also an actress, Jennifer Jones. She was a successful film actress as well as being very pretty. But overall I prefer Carolyn's warmth and humor.
One of the things I enjoy about this show is how much the actors/actresses put into their roles. I think everyone portraying a member of the family had fun performing here.

The show (in my opinion) is so much better than movie adaptations. The strange and unusual behavior is charming. The newer adaptations are just in your face and trying so hard to be edgy. This is a family that thinks they are completely normal when they are actually uniquely dark. Fantastic execution and interpretation.
You have to love even for their fascination for th macabre they love and enjoy each other's company and defend their family

For me since I only ever watched a few re-runs of the animation and "The Addams Family" and "The Addams Family Values" This being the first time I actually watched this version.
