Which is kind of weird, if you think about it. The producers intended to show the opposite of the common American family. And the opposite turned out to be a wonderfully loving and supportive environment!
Only couple that I have ever thought worth emulating . They became my standard to strive for....tell them you love & adore them, that you are proud of them, talk to them openly, play together, surprise each other. When things are hard, keep talking & be kind for you shall regret rash, harsh words.
Really? So none of the other t.v. shows with couples or a family, for the last 40 or 50 years, never showed love and kindness towards each other and their family? That’s odd. I’ve seen tons of shows (and movies) where couples or families show a lot of love and kindness for each other that you can feel it. Even now there’s some really good lovin’ kind of shows! Lol
I like how in the original show, the Addams were weird but by no means malicious, just a loving family to each other and their guests. Wednesday in particular took that darker, sadistic turn in later iterations.
It's funny because all of them (except Pugsley) look so evil outside but in reality they're really nice people. It's a case study of judging a book by its cover.
I always like to think the Wednesday in the movies is just an older version of this Wednesday (since she was so young and sweet here), so she's going through the early stages of puberty, which was why she was dark in a way. Just a young girl finding her way. I'm sure she would've been just like Morticia in her own way if there was a third movie.
As far as I know, the marriage of Morticia and Gomez was a fresh breath for sitcoms during that period. Married couples were portrayed either as weirdly chaste and mushy-gushy (for more family-friendly sitcoms) or grumpy couples nagging and often cheating on each other. Morticia and Gomez on the other hand had some real chemistry, as well as a healthy sex life.
I think I read somewhere that the actors had a real life attraction to each other. I’m not sure how true that is. They both could just be really great actors too lol
I think in any period of TV history Morticia and Gomez are unique in how they are not only very much in love and affectionate, but always have chemistry and work well as a pairing. Particularly, the focus on affection as opposed to bickering is what sets them apart and one reason they are so likable.
Carolyn Jones is such a babe! Even with today's standards, she will still be one of the most beautiful on screen. And she gave Morticia such a lovely personality!
I never realized until METV started running this show again that she was the centerpiece of the show. She played it well with poise and delicate femininity.
When my mother was younger, before her hair went grey, she looked a like Morticia. There was also a period of a few years when she dressed mostly in black. One time, we had gone to a restaurant for brunch. The lobby had a wicker chair like Morticia's. While we were waiting for a table, my mother sat in that chair, in the Morticia pose. She got a lot of looks!
I used to watch this w my grandma & pop! people used to always call me ‘elvira’ or say that i gave them ‘morticia addams vibes” - she’s such a goddess to me… especially the original!! with the release of the new wednesday series everybody’s suddenly so obsessed with wednesday but morticia is where it’s really at.
I always loved the romance between Morticia and Gomez. The Addams Family was the upper-class, sophisticated version of ghoulish clans as opposed to the Munsters.
The love they shared for eachother is Peak relationship and thats what all couples should desire.the passion they have for each other. This, as dark as it could be considered is still peak family value. 🤘🏼
Morticia is a witch and you can’t convince me otherwise :) The broomsticks by the front door That comment to the genealogist The way she “smokes” where smoke comes out of her body Her plants I could go on (ps these are all references to the 1964 tv show)
@Chloe Wangensteen Actually she is! She confirmed it in the 90s movies (I know they're separate entities though). She said her major was "spells & hexes". Literally went to school for witchcraft
i think my favourite addams family adaptations really are this one, the 90s movies and the wednesday netflix show. they all have their own charme and i love how you can tell wxactly when they were made. i know nostalgia can ruin new adaptations for a lot of people but i think when you look into the history and development of the addams family more it's easier to appreciate even the changes and the clear love that went into all of these different versions.
She was such a lady on screen and out. You cannot fake it. She was so lady like, in a classic way. No wonder that I like to call her The Duchess Carolyn Jones.

The only thing better than 10 minutes of Morticia would be 11 minutes. I bought the full DVD series just to see if I somehow missed the episode where she and Gomez actually locked lips but it never happened. Oh, the tension.
She is so sexy, so loving, so graceful, so polite, those blue eyes, just wow. She was great but the chemistry between the cast was magical, and they were all unique. The remakes come no where near the series.
How weird that in this serie Morticia in indigned by the hansel and gretel story ... but in the 1993 movie she literally narrate the story to a whole class of little kids and made them cry lol
That's the point, she asked "how do you think the *poor* witch felt?" She felt bad even there, thoguh idk why sei told that story, maybe cuz it's the only kids book they gave her
“That child has got to be taught to play with his own explosives” is a line that’s only made funnier with the knowledge that kids toys in the 40’s 50’s and 60’s were just death machines
Carolyn Jones was a gift for us...she is my Idol since I first saw Addams family in TV. And I love her still, and forever..and now, thanks for internet and youtube I see her in interview, in Password and can read informations about her ..and see how beautiful, kind and funny she was. To be frank, I think as a young boy Carolyn Jones triggered my first feelings of sexual attraction without having the knowledge or even physical ability to truly experience it. I just remember how the sight of her made me feel uniquely "happy" for some odd reason. I guess that's why to this very day I prefer brunettes!
Calling Hanzel and Gretal juvenile delinquents for pushing a little old lady into the oven. Tish and Gomez. The actors really did a great job! The trains crashing! Her cutting the flowers off and leaving the thorny stems!

@@JMarieCAlove maybe not in a natural or "organic" Morticia and Gomes dynamic have. At least to me lol.
@@JMarieCAlove The key word being ‘more’
Beauty, grace, elegance, and just the right amount of macabre. Morticia is just about perfect.

I wish I will ever meet women like her

My role model ❤❤❤❤
It’s a pity they don’t make gals like her anymore. But then I’m no Gomez.

I heard it said, they were one TV couple that looked like they *could* actually have children.
Totally agree! I thought they were the best TV couple.
@@lawrencedoliveiro9104 They've actually been credited to be the first television couple to actually imply they had a sex life.
The subtle costume choice of her barely being able to move in her dress is so funny to me. She literally wiggled everywhere.
I think she was trying to give the impression of having something other than legs.
It was actually based on an octopus.
Her actress actually had to be sewn into it every time they filmed.
Carolyn Jones (RIP) was the best looking Morticia Addams. None can really replace her. May she rest in peace.

She was breathtaking in all black. She was a stunningly beatuful woman. If alive today she would be 94. It's sad that cancer took her life at 53.

By 50s standards she's goth. By modern standards she's just a very attractive brunette with long hair and a long black dress.
Well by 50s standards she also firmly rejected the beehive hairdos of the 50s and 60s seen in most TV wives. So long-flowing rebel.
She's still goth by modern standards lol
Just to clarify: The Addams Family premiered in 1964.
I’m just sayin’…

Apparently the lovely Carolyn Jones was naturally blonde.
