This is subtly one of the greater episodes. I would love to hang out with The Addams Family. I know it's just a TV show but it always makes me feel so sorry for them nobody wants to stay. They just want friends.
I think there’s an interesting parallel between this and the baby in addams’ family values. Here when presented with normalcy, it’s not only worrisome, but it’s deplorable. It means pugsley is a “problem child.” In the film, it concerns them, but they don’t see the harm in it. They’re disappointed, but they let their child be themselves. Although people love to hail the Addams’ as the pinnacle of unconditional acceptance, which they are in several portrayals, I feel their distain for the “normal” here feels a little more true to the original comic illustrations.
Old post but I think you've got the right of it; they indulge because there really isn't anything else that can be done; they love their kids too much to tell them to stop doing what they want. It's ironic that the newest movie is the example that has Morticia showing outright intolerance to her kid's face--and that is the big difference. Here and in Values, they don't like it but they go along with it and don't brow-beat their kids. In the animated film, Morticia not only dislikes it but makes certain Wednesday knows it.
I can't get over how different Carolyn Jones and John Astin are from Anjelica Huston and Raul Julia but the same key parts of Morticia and Gomez are there from both pairs of actors - they're deeply, PASSIONATELY in love with each other and are devoted to being good parents to their children. Marriage goals.

Even though I was a senior in high school I never missed this show. The great love between Gomez and Morticia was inspirational. I checked Patty Duke and John Austin in when they vacationed in Yosemite. I did not acknowledge their star status and they were just the nicest couple.
I was a youngster when this show came out. It was everything I loved: Medieval torture racks, beheading dolls, the whole Gothic theme called to me. Of course, I instantly fell in love with the most beautiful woman on television (I certainly wasn't the only one). Unsurprisingly, when I began dating, I was a sucker for pale women with long midnight hair - but no one measured up and I got over that fetish. Poor Caroline's ashes share a crypt with her mothers, about 5 miles from me. About every other year or so I stop to pay my respects, and there are always cards, poems, drooping plants, black roses, and the obligatory clipped and upended rose stalks. Makes me smile that so many still care for our coal black-hair beauty.
Well, I actually was infatuated with Wednsday, and as the character matured, I fell in love with her. Morticia was always like a mother figure to me. .Then I got older, .and I fell in love with Morticia.. But none of the Gothic girls did it for me. Then I met my wife. 18. She was perfect! Sweet, odd, fearless, and strong. Kind of a mix between the 1977 Wednsday and young Morticia. After my wife became a mother, she became more like Morticia. I guess what I am saying is: what makes Morticia so special is her matronly demeanor and years of matrimony, which is where we first saw her. So find an adult Wednsday, and maybe the rest will come🖤
Pugsley was right in not joining the Scouts and his parents were right in being more than concerned, given the organization's latter, and on going, scandals. The Addams home indeed provided a much more wholesome environment for the lad.

John Astin talked about his attraction to Carolyn Jones on a podcast with Gilbert Gottfried, about 22 minutes into the interview.
Herman and Lily
Wanda and Vision
Nadja and Laslo
Carolyn Jones has such a charismatic screen presence
the humor has aged so well omg it's so funny why they can't reboot this series
Vanima Permai there was a new movie just a couple month ago
dont bother. carolyn jones cant be replaced.
Because they don’t need too.. and they shouldn’t mess with a good thing
No. Not everything needs a bloody reboot!
No.
By far the best fictional family ever, and Gomez and Morticia is by far the best fictional couple ever.
To think uncle Fester even suggested them learning to love the little puppy! They really love each other and respect their kids, that's so heart-warming to watch
- He got attached to a strange creature
- A girl?
- An ANIMAL!
@@evelynsteiner7616 Yeah. Something REALLY disgusting. A P.U.P.P.Y. :( Glad the Doctor had a good talk with him and brought him back to normal
Oh wow you got 666 likes... LOL NO
Somedays, ya gotta wonder if girls are weird.🥺
Fun fact: eye of Newt was likely just an old fashioned term for mustard seed
Gomez really loves her. He kisses her through the whole show. I love that too but then again it's a bit much. I'd have to tell my husband to go sit down somewhere we can continue later
Oh, well now I know I'll put in in my grimoire. Thanks.
I got a new favorite condiment.
@8 Bit Hero newts are kind of salamander actually
I just commented that, then scrolled down and saw your comment. I bow to your seniority in this comment:)
I would love to hang out with The Addams Family. I know it's just a TV show but it always makes me feel so sorry for them nobody wants to stay. They just want friends.
And I would finally get someone to play Fury of Dracula with...
Nah the Munsters are looking for friends, the Addams are loners.
The movies hark more to the original New Yorker one panel comics in which the Family was both unnamed.... and evil.
@@fmlazar Yes. I was strictly speaking about their attitudes towards normalcy.
Why is this entitled "Psychiatrist" when Gomez called him a "Psychologist". It is amazing how many people don't know the difference.
Psychiatrist can write prescriptions psychologist just listens to the mind
It was in the script
About 100 k a year
Do share, what is the difference?
@@totallycrazystudios1801 A psychologist has a doctorate degree in psychology and either does psychotherapy or psychological testing or engages in research. A psychiatrist is a physician or medical doctor that has gone to medical school and then has done a 4 year residency to become a psychiatrist and can prescribe medications. Psychologists typically (few rare exceptions) do not prescribe medications and psychiatrists do limited psychotherapy.
If only I could deliver a "Good luck" with such excellent sarcasm as did Uncle Fester. 19:35.
A lot of people these days don't realize the Addams Family comes directly from a series of cartoons by Charles Addams published in the New Yorker magazine, and this episode is lifted directly from one of those classic cartoons.
Jeff DeWitt But where is the story of the Trump family lifted from? The Twilight Zone? Outer Limits? The Trumpeone Family? Caligula?
@@bobbywimsy6741 Donald Trump is who Jay Gatsby wished he was. If Gatsby had gotten Daisy and gone into the real estate business he would have been Donald Trump - in his dreams.
Does anyone not know that?
Boiling oli down on Christmas carolers. Classic Charles Addams.
@@huwmordecai6209 I'm sure some people do, it's not exactly a secret. Google "Charles Addams Cartoons", you are in for a treat.
I love Gomez playing with his train sets
the addams family is obviously much more fun and wiser than some "traditional" other normal families :))
Even though I was a senior in high school I never missed this show. The great love between Gomez and Morticia was inspirational. I checked Patty Duke and John Austin in when they vacationed in Yosemite. I did not acknowledge their star status and they were just the nicest couple.
The acting on this show was so amazing.
The laughter in the background gives a darker tone! A delight
The Addams Family is so great! They're so affirming of each other regardless of the circumstances.
I love when they interact with the outside world
I honestly I need a man like Gomez in my life and I'm a dude...that's saying a lot.
Have you learned French?
Tango dances and kisses on fingertips.
Don't we all?
I'm you man ...princess
Gomez is the PERFECT husband. How dreamy.
*My goal in life is having a love a like Gomez and Morticia's*
That is nice to know how she is remembered like that. Thanks for sharing. I loved this show.
Very.....interesting.
What about blowing up trains?
I wonder if they did the right thing and made sure they were dead and withered before they put them there.
So find an adult Wednsday, and maybe the rest will come🖤
The Addams family are just the nicest people out there, they're so nice, and treat everyone equally and with love ❤️❤️❤️👨👩👦👨👩👦🤗
AAAWWWW That puppy was SO cute!
It's dead
And in time, we all will be.

Gomez and Morticia - relationship goals.
Pugsley was right in not joining the Scouts and his parents were right in being more than concerned, given the organization's latter, and on going, scandals. The Addams home indeed provided a much more wholesome environment for the lad.
i think its great that they recognize pugsley isnt doing anything wrong, they just don't know what it is he's doing and are worried for him rather than frustrated
It's beautifully photographed. And yes, the most loving of couples.
Originally, Lurch was not intended to talk but Ted ad-libbed during rehearsal once and the producers lived his voice so gave him several lines in each episode.
Ted also played "Thing" most of the time!
i happened to watch this after the 2019 movie. lucky click! i hated how the movie handled this type of situation, the parents just acted like normie parents and it was very frustrating. this was refreshing to see
Omg i do like her nightgown-
Morticia's style was and still is pretty much what we can call unique.
Remember pugsly, when Wednesday Adams makes scout cookies, they're made with real scouts.
i'm so glad full episodes were posted, makes me laugh as i did as a kid watching these.
Carolyn Jones was so beautiful, I could even enjoy watching her flog my loved ones.
You must love them so much...🥰🥰🥰🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Me too. 😂
I love the way they are all in with their characters. Not at all like a parody.
John Astin and Carolyn Jones had a genuine affection for each other.
Carolyn was class act and the cast members remember her as a sweet lady.
To bad she passed away to soon.
Still love the Addams Family at 72 as much as I did at 15. Adore all the characters after all these years.
"he's playing with a... IT!"
I think it's cute that little look Morticia gives Gomez when she says "Let's go up to bed"
For what. Haha 😆🤔🤨
Is it just me, or does Pugsley look like that child actor who played Ben from the new “It” movies?
Yes!!
Honestly, in that outfit I thought of Russell from Up.
A Timeless classic! Pioneers of this genre, excellent writing and acting. Being in the antique, collectibles business I love the decor of the mansion.❤️🇨🇦
Even on a rainy day, the Addams Family love it.
He reminds me of the kid on the movie UP
They practice intellectual freedom; " read what you will darling".
Mortitia says not tonight and Gomez says he understands 💖💖💖
It's one of the series I never get tired of.
I love the fact they're not disgusted that it's a dog, just that it's a puppy.
19:35 I love Uncle Fester's sarcasm!
Gabriel Quesnot But what of Uncle Shyster(Rudy G)'s bug eyes?
