Comedy genius is a bit much, I mean he wasn't exactly improvising he was just reading from a script.
In my opinion a bit of fry and laurie was rather poor compared to other double acts.
Give me hale and pace over them any day,

I've always had a huge weakness for the line:

Lord Percy in one of the best parts at 23:15 "Don't worry. You'll get over her. ... I did. ... So did Baldrick"

I can remember Marty Feldman but it was too long ago. A slightly more modern comedy would be "Dad's Army". It was set in WWII and consisted of a dysfunctional platoon of the Home Guard. These were men deemed too old to go to war so were set to guard Britain from German attack.
It's hilarious! Great script writing and fantastic acting.

There are so many brilliant deliveries here. As much as I didn't like first season that much, rest of them are 100% pure gold.
I've always found Blackadder a million times better written & more enjoyable than Game of Thrones. And now the rest of the world thinks so too.

I’ve never watched GoT, sounds like a dodged a bullet, I always felt it was over-hyped.
Blackadder is one of the best written Tv shows ever, which is why there is only 6episodes per season and just 4 seasons, (technically 3 when you get rid of the first season which wasn’t great at all)

The Bishop of Bath and Wells is played by Ronald Lacey, who also played the SS guy in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Talk about range...great actor.
Miranda Richardson as Queen Elizabeth puts season 2 on another tier for me. S3 is my favourite for Hugh Laurie but 2 is close second for her performance.
Miranda is fantastic not just as Queenie but as The Shadow in 3 and the nurse in 4.

Rowan as Blackadder was soooooo much funnier than Mr. Bean, or pretty much anything else he's done after
He was very good in the first Johnny English film too. Very watchable. But Blackadder was a stand alone brilliance for TV comedy.
The Thin Blue Line was very good too!
Totally agree. I'm glad he made money from Mr Bean but that's it. About 7/8ths of his appeal for me is his verbal dexterity and also his attitude, whether here, in the Thin Blue Line, as the Devil, or as the headmaster.

Why you British people dont even try to do anymore something funny like Black Adder, The New Statesman, Red Dwarf? And all this show i mentioned were invented in the eighties.

Sisko MaSu I agree. It shocked me to find him so attractive after seeing him in the first. Still find him hot. The outfit sets him off wonderfully, plus the goatee, beard and mannerisms/voice. A perfectly composed character. He absolutely sells it.

Saw some pictures of his wife and daughter, they were both gorgeous. If he met his wife while he played this character, no doubt she found him hot as well.
Back in 1989-1990 while in nursing school this series kept me from going insane! And made me a better comic.

The Lord Flashart episode from series two is probably one of the greatest scenes in comedy of all time - full stop. I'm not sure how much of it was actually scripted because a lot of it seems improvised.

Most tend to choose Goes Forth as their favorite, but Blackadder II has always been my favorite. I feel like they perfected the character in II.

Back in the 80's, this show started my life-long crush on Tony Robinson. I love Baldrick. I recently saw Tony in two episodes of Doctor In Charge from the early 70's. So damn cute!

The Doctor really let himself go
Ronald Lacey as the baby eating Bishop of Bath and Wells ,also played Toht the gestapo man in Raiders of the Lost Ark,died in 1989 ,not long after been in Blackadder
Also the Sholto Brothers in Jeremy Brett's 'The Sign Of Four'.
Mr.Atkinson did some of his finest acting in this series.
Love the bit of series 3 with Sam Johnson and the dictionary. Also the Scarlet Pimpernel, and best line :"Flander's Pigeon Murdereer" by Stephen Fry.

Laurie is one of my favorite, multi-talented stars. In addition to his brilliance (dramatic, comedic, literary and musical), he was wonderful portraying nitwits. And a flawless American accent. Gush, gush.
