I absolutely love Stephen Fry's Prince Charles-esque Charles I in this. "Are you ready to meet your maker?" "Well, I'm always absolutely fascinated to meet people from all walks of life... yes, particularly manufacturing industries."
Am I supposed to genuinely like Charles I here? I do. He's oddly endearing in a pompous way.
@@maryfreebed9886 Stephen Fry is doing a direct impersonation of Prince Charles at the time, now Charles III because they shared the same name - so I suppose it depends on if you find him especially pompously endearing or not :P
Admittedly it is somewhat endearing to see a character so pompous they don't realise they're in any danger

This was so much fun. The Charles impression was pure genius. I still class Blackadder as one of my top five favorite Britcoms ever.

This is so brilliant, I class it as a 100% canon era of Blackadder. Stephen Fry is particularly fabulous in this.

Excellent scriptwriting and superbly acted out by the best of British actors.. Rowans delivery is perfect and Stephen's portrayal of King Charles is second to none... Tony.. Well. He's just baldrick.. Lol

Cromwell wasn't born a peasant or a squire. Don't let them fool you with that. His family were rich and he was connected. Spent much of his earlier life being a politician. He couldn't have become Lord Protector without the connections

This is a perfect idea of a actual season but if anything else a 45 minute special. With the time we can explore more on Edmund and Baldrick.

Brilliant show, we watched it so often during english class (english as a 2nd language) and it was both fun and helpful

The kitchen set seen here at 0:38 was a redressed version of the kitchen set used in Blackadder the Third, which had just ended the year before this special in 1987.

I've seen this about 15 times throughout the years. Quite often the best 15 minutes of television one could ever hope for.
Fry playing Charles I as Prince Charles.....genius.
It's affected me permanently! If someone's boring me and it's appropriate to do so I sometimes say "fascinating! absolutely fascinating....please...carry on" provoking at best a baffled humourous response, at worst some mild psychosis.
Overall - some very memorable quotes from these 15 minutes of bandwidth gold.

Gee, i wish this setting for Blackadder was made into a full blown series from the start of the civil war right up to this episode, but hey, atleast we go this phenomenal comic relief instead! 😊
I wish they'd release a dvd with the Christmas special, the Millienium special and this one collected together.
