Well done Cath. Your coat is beautiful. Just shows how all the preparation work you did was worth it. It doesn't pay to cut corners. A coat always seems daunting but by doing a toille first your fit was perfect.

Thank you Cath for all your info on the Oslo coat. I have had the pattern for a while but not got round to starting it yet. One of the reasons was that I didn’t think it would be warm enough ( I live in North East Scotland) but your use of the thinsulate will make a huge difference. Thanks again , hopefully I will get it made by next winter! 🤞

Great coat! It looks so lovely and definitely a classic. And fabulous review. Thanks for taking us through the process, especially regarding the swatches. I'm not sure I would've thought to do that! I see great value in that step now and should online fabric shopping continue to be necessary by the time I go to make my first coat (hopefully not!!), I will definitely be ordering samples. And I totally agree with you're decision to toile the entire coat in order to solidify the steps in your mind before making the final product. Very smart. Well done!

Thank you so much for this vlog Cath. You’ve covered it all very thoroughly and I’m itching to make one now! I really liked how you added interlining to the coat to make it warmer. I have always avoided making coats as I always suffer with the cold and there never seems to be any coat patterns with the interlining inside them. The finished coat looks stunning on you 😍. Thanks again x

Thanks so much Liz, I'm so glad you found the vlog helpful. I really wanted to make sure the coat was cosy as I knew I wouldn't reach for it otherwise, so I'm glad the interlining has worked out well. Thanks for watching xx

Thanks - that was very useful. I’ve just made a super tailored coat for my 29 year old son and I’m about to make another coat but this time for myself. I’d like to try the bound button holes so will take a look at that tutorial you mentioned. I’ve never done an interlining but you have made it seem fairly straight forward.

Love this video, and love the coat! I've been thinking of making a coat for a while, but just haven't taken the plunge. I almost always make a toile, but I never thought of ordering swatches! Duh! Thanks for that tip. Also, a wooden clapper is great for flattening seams on heavier weight cotton, like twill or denim, not just wool.
    Keep up the great work!

hey :) thanks for another fab vlog, and what a gorgeous coat! I've never thought of sewing my own coat, it seems so complicated and probably more than I'm capable of, but you've made me want to have a go! :)
Your comment about finishes the seams resonates with me. I'm quite new to sewing and a few of my earlier garments have been ruined by fraying seams going to holes, but the instructions don't seem to ever tell you about when/if to finish the seam!
Also (yes I know I'm strange), the little loop you added to hang the coat up was so satisfying :) I wouldn't have thought to add it... then hanging it up would have annoyed me forever haha.
    So, yeah, thank you :D
