    Dodge has the chance to make this car match its predecessors, which is what pretty much everybody wants, they just have to do it, simple as that. Add the option of a V8 and a supercharged version, make RWD standard and AWD optional and add the option of a conventional trunk in the rear. After all, the previous Charger was literally outselling every other American sedan combined, which means it was the perfect option over other American sedans. I suspect it’s because it was full-size, RWD and had a V8, just like almost all other American sedans until the 1980s. Also, the supercharger was popular for muscle car enthusiasts who may have wanted room for the family (due to it being a 4-door). And speaking of the trunk, I’m not saying a hatchback is not good, but it means its body style doesn’t match that of its predecessor. However, Dodge could modify the rear trunk frame by installing a fixed window, rear interior trunk panels and a conventional trunk. Having more options, especially including traditional ones, will increase the popularity of the car. Dodge is trying to stay away from new V8s, seemingly unaware that it’s decreasing the popularity of their cars, even if the I6 and electric motors are faster. It’s not the EPA’s fault, which is proven by the fact that the upcoming street-legal Ford Mustang GTD comes standard with a supercharged V8. This car has already received too much criticism ever since its official reveal, due to the lack of the same powertrain and drivetrain as its predecessors, which proves it needs to have these options. It wouldn’t be the same unless Dodge changes their mind.

      @@ModernRedHemiThis was such an unusually long comment, but it explains what this car needs in detail and why, according to fans. After all, manufacturers have to offer what their customers are demanding, since they’re the ones who will be buying from and paying them. That’s how they remain profitable. If they don’t, they’ll go bankrupt.

    • @anonymous3738
      @anonymous3738 Месяц назад +1

      @@ModernRedHemi Also, I forgot to mention that many American cars until the 1980s had I6 and V8 engine options. However, the I6 was no faster than the V8 and was thus more of an entry-level option, much like the V6 in the previous Charger and Challenger. So Dodge could make a Hurricane V8 as well as a supercharged one. Those could become popular, performance-oriented options for this car.

    I think the part of EV ownership that is going to piss people off or keep them from buying is the current state of public charging network. Unless you only charge at home or have access to Tesla's public chargers, the infrastructure will be a disappointment.

Even my wife, an English woman, and a Challenger driver, cannot believe how European America is becoming with our automobiles. We have 4 Dodge / Jeep / RAM vehicles between us, and as it stands right now, all of our future MOPARs will probably be newer used fossil fuel versions of what we already own. Nothing new from CDJR is even remotely captivating to us. How sad is THAT?

Even diehard MOPAR guys that just spent $50K-$100K over book for these "Last Call" options will be pissed off enough to swap brands if they feel that they were lied to or swindled. I almost feel they'd wait a couple of years before moving forward on a HEMI or another V8 just so they could blame the market, or the current administration, and come back as our ICE Horsepower Saviors! It's going to get "interesting," to say the least!

    For Dodge to develop a V8 makes no sense. First, there is the research and development. There is also designing the engine to meet EPA emissions and fuel economy standards. There is also the cost of marketing. Most Challenger and Chargers sold today aren't Hemis. They are 6 cylinders. The market for performance V8s is relatively small. Part of the problem Dodge would have trying to sell V8s is that emission standards would be harder and harder to meet over time. With the government placing their fingers on the scale, the market for V8 cars will get smaller and smaller. It isn't profitable for Stellantis to make cars with V8s. If Ford can sell V8 Mustangs, why doesn't Stellantis do it? Ford is using an engine that has been inexistence for 15 years. The engine has been modernized. However, the design is basically the same.
    The Hurricane is a far better way to go than manufacturing the Hemi. It is much easier to meet emission and fuel economy standards because it has a smaller displacement. The Hurricane also has the advantage of having an OHV design. Stellantis is a European organization. They've been producing small displacement, turbo cars for years. You can also take that engine, reduce the displacement even more, and make it a hybrid. My favorite is a V6 doesn't sound like a V8. Who the fork cares? You go for the look. Turbo cars with small displacement engines will put 90% of the R/Ts in the rear-view mirror. From the factory, my SHO was a high 13 second car. My car now runs 12.2s and 12.3s. Do you know how much it cost me? It only cost me $2,000. What do you get if you invest in an R/T. You get wheels and tires, an unlocked PCM, and maybe a canned tune. Look on the bright side. If all you have is $2K invested in mods, you get to do one-wheel peels. Don, let me know if you decide to do your talk show. I will gladly explain the advantages that a small displacement turbo engine has over many V8s
    When it comes to the future of the EV, who knows? Much of what is being said is being driven by politics. What I believe is that the government will back off on the EV mandates for 2 reasons. The first is that the infrastructure isn't there yet. Secondly, people don't want to buy them. Only 7.8% of cars sold last year were EVs. Tesla has over half the market. With China looking to establish EV plants in Mexico, Ford, GM, and Stellantis would probably shut down most if not all of their operations in the US within 10 years if the government pushes EV mandates as aggressively as they are right now.

      _"It isn't profitable for Stellantis to make cars with V8s. If Ford can sell V8 Mustangs, why doesn't Stellantis do it?"_ . So if it's profitable for Ford to make V8s, why wouldn't it be for Stellantis? And, Dodge experienced a huge amount of success bringing back the Challenger V8. It wasn't necessarily the V6 that stirred excitement. By the way, I recently bought a Dodge Challenger from a Ford dealership. They randomly mentioned that the Mustang Mach E is "absolutely not selling at all." Those were his exact words. I don't mind EV cars, I just don't think it should be forced down our throats.

      @@user-nw6sf1bx4y - The cost of designing a new engine is astronomical. There is research and development. There is testing the design to make sure the engine is reliable and meets government standards for emissions. There is the cost of tooling for a new engine design. Ford is using an engine design that is 15 years old. Ford doesn't have all of those expenses. The market for V8s is small and will continue to shrink as government mandates make the engine too costly to produce. Any corporation wants to make a profit. If it were profitable Stellantis would make cars with V8s.

      @@user-nw6sf1bx4y - Ford is using a 15 year old design for their V8s. Stellantis would have to design, test, market, and set up tooling for a new engine. It is expensive to develop an engine that will meet EPA standards. As the regulations for emissions become more strict over time, the market for V8s will continue to shrink. Turbo 6s are a far better option for a high-performance engine. Stellantis is a European car company. They have been making small displacement turbo engines for decades. The Hurricane was relatively inexpensive to develop because they can use a design that was borrowed from one of their other car models. Turbo 6s are highly tunable and cheaper to mod.

    • @user-nw6sf1bx4y
      @user-nw6sf1bx4y Месяц назад

      @@hu3.789 well, anything with a turbo can be modded simply by adding a bigger turbo, to include a V8. I don't know if a turbo V6 is a "far better option" though. That might be a bit of an exaggeration. And those engines aren't as fuel efficient as they pretend, as compared to some V8's. The Coyote engine, is extremely modible, gets decent gas mileage, and will blow the doors off pretty much anything on the market. The Dodge V8's are decent too. For example, a 1320 6.4 car will run mid-11's, and is capable of getting 28MPG on long road trips. That's hard to beat, even with the BMW Twin- charged 6 cylinder, etc. And BTW, the BMW 3.0 Twin Charged system, isn't really that much more fuel efficient than any of Dodge's V8"s. We have to speak in real world numbers here.
