      Very one is a critic of Modi in some ways. I think he has done little to take India away from the white man’s version of history I schools but that does not mean I don’t appreciate what he is doing. He has to undo the slavish education system that was uncritically promoted by the congress regime

      ‘The Left’ has some brilliant people. The left echo chamber and trolls don’t let the “others” interact with the ‘Left’. That is the biggest problem for any non-left leaning person to try to engage, learn and find a coherent way to criticise and examine policies.

      I like Anand. But, he is like a poet, author & teacher. When we have any light subject or a debate, Anand can bring a flash of new views. But, Abhijit is highly read, analysed various past events and comes up with a logical course of prescription. This area is not everybody’s cup of tea. Another point about Anand, he can be put against a person like Sashi Tharoor. To be honest, I have developed an aversion with those who studied in an English Medium Boarding school like Doon School and speak a bamboozling English because they are basically and predominantly dishonest and they do not have any substance. If you have watched how Devdutt Patnaik crushed Mr. N. Ram of The Hindu you will find how arrogant & judgemental these Left Liberals are and they are hollow except their westernised English.

    Lot of good takeaways from this conversation.
    Any news outlet is propaganda if you are able to figure out their ideology/political leaning, that's the best way to filter out information, I would hear out Abhijeet on defence related topic, Sai on any judicial topics, Swapan Das on idea of India (in contrast with Sashi Tarhoor) and make up my mind on hundreds of topics which need critical understanding, it would be quite naive for people to think one media or one new channel can be right/true/accurate all the time.
    True news doesn't come curated anymore, it needs a be worked for. Also it is important to remember that people are not really loyal to one political party, they are more tied to different narratives that define these political party.
    As long as Rahul Gandi is a PM face of the opposition i wouldn't vote of it, the day sashi tarhoor pushes for a same sex marriage bill (as in equality) I would vote of his party. If BJP continues on it's economic development trajectory (I come from a tier 2 city we now have metro under the bjp government) I will vote of Modi and his cabinate.
    In short give me reason why not to vote for Modi then give me reason on why to vote modi then my internal compass will decide based on tradeoffs based on better of two evils (I say evil because 'political hamam me sabhi nange hai!'!) .
    At the moment that moral compass is pointing at Modi.
    Change my mind!
    Thanks for this conversation, now i can go on with my day's work!

    Exactly, Abhijit... There are 3 kinds of Hindutva-vadis:
    1. The progressives
    2. Conservatives
    3. Regressives
    I recently came across someone from this third class of fools who claim "caste system prevents undue competition", "Shri Krishna advocated for caste system... are you better than him?", "The Vedic culture didn't pollute nature unlike Western industrialization", etc.
    They are the ones who drove me (& I presume a number of others too) away from Hindutva a while ago. The American cultural icons like Elon Musk, Bezos, etc., seem way more appealing in the face of someone who tells me that just because I come from an ancestral farming background (which I actually do), I must stick to my profession (stick to the "familial competencies").
    Ambitious Indians (Hindus) will not favor Hindutva (if not downright seek to diminish it) if these voices ever rise above the fringe (where I hope they are now). And it's the ambitious individuals who led to the recent rise of the Northern Europeans (the "West"). The average shrub farmer who stayed in his place or the entrenched nobility didn't make it happen.
    The ones who made me reconsider (& hopefully those others too) are you, J.S Deepak, Abhinav Prakash Singh, etc. The metropolitan youth won't exactly be moved by non-futuristic thinking.
    The best case would be for India to become a leading center of knowledge & commerce once again, while retaining it's civilizational identity. But a purist aversion to absorbing ideas from out-groups will be catastrophic to even our most immediate future (with China working 20-30 year plans to dominate the world with data, AI, outer space).

    Abhijeet made a brilliant point at 56.10 just because Arnab's right wing opinions are funded by ads doesn't make it any less worse than Abhinandan's left wing opinions which are funded by it's support model both are creating an Ecochamber of opinions both are setting their preferred narrative. So, both are catering to a set of people why should Newslaundry hold a moral ground over Republic?
    Infact Newslaundry probably has 98 or so videos on Arnab So what Arnab is to Newslaundry is what Modi is to kunal kamra.

      Also there is a degree of biasness. There is a reason we refrain from calling a centre right person a ultra right.
      That's it with Arnab. He is so far gone that its unrecognisable.

    I like PG Radio not because I agree with its views but because I agree with its approach. We may have many differences but what is needed is to find in how many ways we agree and keep the dialogue open until we reach the converging point. I believe that a sincere discussion & dialogue between very honest divergent people can bring a fantastic new view points than between a two in agreement. Those who are truly democratic can only work towards convergence. Again, remember, convergence does not mean two are totally agreeing but they agree on prioritisation of so many actions (so many baby steps) a young democratic & diverse country like India should make. I have voted for Modiji in 2014 & 2019 and perhaps May vote again in 2024. But, like Abhijit Iyer Mitra, I do have strong disagreement with Modiji’s government functioning. But, it is 100 times better than the corrupt UPA. I do not want to sing in praise of Modiji forgetting so many other steps we need to make. I do not want to work for optics but for results. If I am given a chance to work with this Govt,, I shall surely invite many well meaning people like Abhijit and perhaps will be able to bind Abhijit with some serious work in the government, especially in the Strategic & Security matters.

    Hi Prakhar, everything from the beginning to the end was spot-on. Abhijit is indeed an intelligent and well-read man. However, at 50:40, and then throughout the Abhinandan Sikhri segment, there could have been a couple of strong rebuttals to Abhijit's arguments that 'we should discard both news streams because they are all biased'.
    1. While he didn't like the news outlets such as NDTV, Scroll, The Wire and News Laundry because they are also ideologically driven, one can not skip the part they these news outlets do indeed show/cover much important daily news across the country (non-opinionated) in comparison to RepublicTV, ZeeNews and others. For years I have observed these left-wing outlets covers a lot more of our current problems like unemployment, natural crisis (2018 in Kerala, 2020 Bengal, Assam), water crisis, and most of the average Indian concerns, much more clearly and in their prime-time/daily news than the right-wing does. I don't think the right and left is ideologically driven to the same degree and that is extremely "important". It's like saying FOX and Economist/MSNBC/NYT are all BS because they all ideologically driven. 'Right' in India, I feel has gone too far in serving its interests, and its basically discounting the left just because they also publish opiniated pieces.
    2. Now, this is very specific to NDTV. I feel NDTV has a perenial anti-government bias not particularly a left or socialist one or even if they did have a socialist bias, they are very very committed to it, which actually makes them more trustworthy because they are not connected to any person or institution but to a clear ideology of serving common people. Why I say this, If you go back in years of 2012-2014, NDTV was one of the foremost critics of Congress Govt and they also supported many ideas/politicians from the BJP and AAP. (Lokpal, RTI, anti-corrpution, anti-dynasty). They also continued that in the past in Vajpayee years and congress-I (I just don't have the confidence in the statement because I was too young to observe).
    I feel if you can somehow arrange to have Abhijit and Abhinandan together, that would an extremely amazing podcast. Both are decent human and quite knowledgeable in their own field. I would pay for that stuff. Take care!

    • @shubhamsapra2259
      @shubhamsapra2259 4 года назад +1

      Do you also think that the tools they both used for propaganda are also very different ? I mean, there are many time when I noticed the channels like Republic tv giving space to clear cut fake news ( some footage wrongly associated to ongoing context ), But it's not so common in other spectrum. I mean if your narrative is equally noble then why your means are not.
      Other thing, lack of communication is an another thing. I have rarely seen arnab on any public platform where he can be questioned.

    • @krishnendumukherjee5002
      @krishnendumukherjee5002 4 года назад +1

      @@shubhamsapra2259 Narratives of both the spectrum of news-outlets is not inherently "noble" it's the belief system that makes them different. Left or left-associated news outlets want to promote peace and harmony within communities and being a Hindu-majority country they are more protective of minorities and that's why they try their best to show the minorities in good light, which is again a compromise, but to some extent understandable. That's why they under-report crimes done by minorities and push back severely on the crimes of majority i.e. Hindu-right. But what Republic/Zee news does is to completely hide the truth. People are dying in floods, there is mass unemployment, but they are doing debates of nepotism, ram mandir, Pakistan ki barbadi, corona-jihad - topics which hold really less to no-relevance to the general public. It's like the Stalin-Moaist-Kim-Jong equivalent of right-wing. Hide any news that can summon public outrage. Its ironical that Abhijit referred to the BJP as Bharatiya communist party because a lot of their supporters-base/methods and power holding tactics are reminiscent of the early years of Communism and even that CPM.
      And regarding choosing between two streams of news outlets, if both are, let's say not noble, it's always better to choose the one which is the lesser evil.

    • @krishnendumukherjee5002
      @krishnendumukherjee5002 4 года назад +1

      @@rohanmirza3477 No I don't think the left outlets have somehow changed after 2014. Many in fact as I said NDTV, NewsLaundry, were hard critics of Congress government and did voice many BJP concerns. See the thing is, if you want to validate my viewpoints, just look for NDTV news reporting during 2012-2014 times, you'll know what I am saying. They reported major economic failures of congress govt., scams, etc. And that is why I think they have an inherent ideological bias and are not tied to any political party, which makes them more reliable than their right-wing counterparts. While, the likes of ZeeNews, republic are literally serving the interests of one party and may I dare say, a few people in the top positions, which is extremely dangerous and always remain a threat to democracy. And I can definitely say that if congress indeed comes to power, channels like NDTV and other left-wing outlets would be their foremost critics.

But how about more federalism wrt chartered cities...
    So maybe a question for some next guest to whom it suits, what if we do away with states and directly empower districts. Forget constitution for now, just a hypothetical.

    Abhijit should look at chronology research by the likes of Nilesh Oak. Going by Romila Thapar's dating of Rig Veda is strange for someone who hates third raters and mediocrity.

    I dont agree with Abhijit . He criticize GST . Before GST , It was easy to send the goods to UK then to state UP from Maharashtra . In terms of Infrastructure BJP has done much more better than INC . BJP is coming with a new education policy in next 10 days , where ISRO ex Chairman, IIT professors and great minds are involved . Its a complete 180 degree shift.
    Also you cant expect magic in 6 years as compare to what Congress screwed in 70 years .Removed article 370 from Kashmir . China enjoyed the fruits of education after 2 decades. Yes Abhijeet is definitely good in Defence but i cant take his advice in other subjects.

    Abhijit repeatedly saying "la di da di da" is so irritating. Its not his fault though, the third class acts by our governments obviously frustrated him up.

    The challenge in India is of centre state alignment on any matter. Ideas are opposed bcos politics of parties calls for it. That's why the preoccupation of the centre in having its party govern the state's too. As a result explosive growth has deluded India all the time except when IT and outsourcing seized global imagination in 2000s. Even there , it was inspite of and not bcos of UPA govt.
    The second challenge is the enormous power wielded by bureaucrats who are not accountable to anyone and are used to power as a source of self aggrandisement rather than as service to nation. It is funny that these two classes , politician and bureaucracy blame each other.
    The third challenge is the falling apart of the false social and national narrative peddled by nehruvian vision of India, faced with the onslaught of factual information enabled by internet and the social media. The people expectation now goes beyond mere livelihood matters to cultura identity and the need for truth and reconciliation. It also has called the bluff of the elitist intelligentsia and in a sense is seeking to democratise soft power.
    The fourth challenge is the disruption caused by the elite together with a decimated congress by virtue of the eco system traditionally dominated by them, only bcos they're unable to digest that a government in India could ever rise above the divide and rule policy and pursue development and safeguarding of national integrity. Lest they get consigned to dust bin of history, this lobby is trying to project the present regime as dividing the society by spreading deliberate falsehood and fear mongering.

    India has no dearth of analysts. The problems of development are hamstrung by an entrenched bureaucracy and political opportunism. Basic needs versus catching up with the industrialized nations is non-starter. The state has to concentrate on creating an enabling environment that will help Indian society to realize it;s potential.

    He is factually wrong at @11:00, the first Rashidun Calliphate was a democratic state where people in now Egypt, Israel and adjoining territories previously ruled by Byzantine were allowed to follow their religion and powers were given to local subordinates. Also, these areas were exempted of heavy taxes. Something similar happened in South East Asia. Don't just nod your head at everything.
