  • Despite BJP being in power since 2014, the right-wing narrative remains fractured. BJP is seen as ‘right wing’ due to its leanings, however, when it comes to the economy, the party’s own supporters call it more left-inclined than the left liberals ever have. Is the left actually liberal and is the right not? To discuss these political connotations and much more, Smita Prakash spoke with Abhijit Iyer-Mitra. He is someone who has a radical take on these things and is considered to be an ‘extreme liberal’ - someone who believes in total freedom of expression. He has written on military affairs - a researcher par excellence who speaks on political ideologies and social issues. Often, he is attacked by both the left and the right-wing in India for his opinions but continues to remain unfazed towards criticism.

Right and left are so contextual. Lefts call Giorgia Meloni a far-right, but rights call her right or right-center. Lefts call Modi right, and rights call Modi (recently) as left-center. Recently I laughed during Ramasimhan (formerly Ali Akbar) interview (Khilafat movement moviemaker) when he said Congress as right-wing party (because he's seen far-left govts in Kerala for long time. Since then, I thought, we only have right and wrong, but not right and left.

Generally, the left-wing is characterized by an emphasis on “ideas such as Liberty, equality, fraternity, rights, progress, reform and internationalism”, while the right-wing is characterized by an emphasis on “notions such as authority, hierarchy, order, duty, tradition, reaction and nationalism”. - Wikipedia Source
Let’s compare today’s political landscape around the world and evaluate each of these adjectives assigned to the two groups. Left has developed a condescending attitudes towards everyone else because of their perceived higher moral ground. But the facts on the ground speak something else. Today the media is very tightly controlled to preach a certain viewpoint to the masses. The biggest weapon in the hands of propagandists is the media. Let’s analyze each of the definitions. I will leave it up to you to make a selection.
Actually Left refers to those who oppose Government and the right means those who support the government. In a democracy these positions regularly change, therefore, the left & right also keep changing. There is no permanent left or right, just like in the real world. But Dharma & Adharma are permanent. We can be either Dharmic or Adharmic. Therefore, as followers of Vedas, we are technically neither left nor right. We are either Dharmic or Adharmic.
Liberty on Social Media: Throughout the world, the Left often controls the social media and they have silenced many groups and individuals when someone disagrees with them. Left speaks of freedom of speech only when they are being supported by social media.
When they are opposed by facts they often try to silence the opposition parties.
Often times Islam as a religion claims to be on the left. And usually the words like Islamophobia is often used to silence the critics. They do not want themselves to be challenged.
Liberty outside Social Media: Throughout the world the most corrupt politicians, academicians and individuals have claimed to be the Left.
Whenever they are confronted by facts, they casually refer to every single source as right-wing.
Practically, no liberty for common folks against the Left grained ideas of liberty. Many journalists have been murdered by the Left grained institutions for trying to bring facts around them. Khashoggi murder is a classical case in point. None of the Islamic leaders encourage any fact finding attempts against their structure, command and control. They are all above the law for the masses. The most suppressed communities today are in the left controlled territories.
Equality: Every single leftist organization has been favorable to the elite. They preach equality but their actions don’t seem to fit what they preach.
Some prominent left leaders in the US are millionaires, but they preach equality of income to Americans.
Similarly, the left of Europe is usually the ones with huge financial backing while preaching equality to Europeans. Same in the case of India and many other prominent places on the planet.
Fraternity: Cabals of leftist media fraternity has curtailed freedom of speech for generations. Cuba, Venezuela and now USA has plenty of such groups now.
The leftist political parties have created fraternity of Unions to usurp the rights and freedom of their workers.
Most of the leftist union workers feel suffocated. Islamic fraternity works similarly as the other communist left. They work only for their interest.
Rights: The world history has shown till date that the left has always worked against the interest of masses.
The worst human rights disasters have happened in Leftist controlled territories.
Groups like Antifa, Naxals, Islamic Terrorists have been the biggest human rights violators. They often escape the laws because the other leftist support mechanisms such as media protect them. With left you have an ecosystem of Academicians, Politicians, Media and Judiciary to usurp the rights of masses.
Progress: Which communist, socialist, Islamist country has ever progressed economically or socially? But media controlled by Left usually hides their incompetence and statistics.
Reform: This buzzword is often used to hide their incompetence when they fail to meet their own stated goals of progress. The word reform is never used to reform their fraudulent practices, but is always used to control the masses.
Media often uses these words to support their leftist ideological superiority when their leaders fail.
Women and children are subjected to severe atrocities in leftist controlled territories and when they cry for help their voices suppressed by the left controlled ecosystem.
Internationalism: This buzzword is extensively used to connect Left based controllers across the globe. Often times we hear from leftists, we have 57 countries or UN, speaks for our values.
A common man is just perplexed as if they have no voice against a large group of leftists / communists.
Authority: Without a structured organization, there cannot be any stability. Growth, progress, society needs structures. Most successful organizations who have uplifted nation’s for centuries work on a system of authority. For example, an army, civil government cannot deliver promises without a system of chains of authority. Without authority even parents cannot discipline their children. Leftist countries and ideologies use authority extensively to subjugate their masses. But a good authority helps nations grow. Japan, USA, India are excellent examples of structured authorities where they have delivered prosperity to their populations. Everyone wants to come to the USA because of an efficient judiciary, administration and employment.
Hierarchy: Hierarchy exists in nature. Leftists / Communists / Islamists have hierarchies too. Often times they are used for subjugating masses.
Without hierarchy no society can function.
Order: Civilian Orderliness is the hallmark of a successful society. Everyone loves countries such as India, USA, Japan because there is a system of orderliness. You can’t find such order in Islamist, Communist and leftist societies for common people. Leftists promote elitist orderliness, Rightists promote mass orderliness.
Duty: Without a sense of duty, no society can flourish.
Duty is a hallmark of a responsible citizenry.
When left demonizes duty, they usually are promoting anarchy and elitism.
Tradition: Humans learn from traditions and culture. When left attacks tradition they are actually attacking history and culture. Which of humans is not proud of their tradition and culture? None. Every human loves where they come from. When left attacks traditions, they are actually telling masses, follow us and just forget your past.
By ignoring tradition, a society becomes identity-less.
Without identity, there will be chaos which the left wants desperately to establish a new Order which protects their elites.
Reaction: Left doesn’t want anyone to question them. They will silence critics who offer intelligent solutions. They usually call all intelligent factual discussions as hate speech, call group of people as Phobic, create false narratives of victimhood and atrocities. We have all seen this extensively in the left controlled media, academics and politics across the globe.
Any opposition to the Left is threatened by murders, riots, terrorism and social unrest. The leftist ecosystem supports any act including violence.
Nationalism: The left hates this word because it refers to culture, traditions, truthfulness, hierarchy, facts, truth, history, duty and love. Nationalism hurts the agenda of the left. Irresponsible Globalism is the source of revenue for them. They like globalism because it suits them, and they hate nationalism because it hurts them.
UN, Islamic Ummah are all such examples of leftist globalism pandering for their own selfish corrupt goals of controlling humanity.
Internationalism is always good, but the local community is the most important in any society. Left is often opposed to family structures because it destroys their plan to control the last human on this planet. The word jugglers of the left have recently distinguished patriotism from nationalism to pander to their agendas.
Friends, it’s time for us to understand the global dynamics of left or right. The leftist academicians have been promoted to create new definitions or change old ones now. So the world cannot learn much from their propaganda. It’s important to stay centered on the virtues of Truth and Justice and that is Dharma.
Dharma means to be on the side of logic, reasoning, intellectualism and above all responsible Duty. Dharma is the new center.
It’s important to reject all hate coming from left (Islamist, Communist, Socialists) and adopt a right path of Truth and Justice. We are neither right or left, we have to be dharmic.

Thank you Smita Prakash. My respect for you multiplied manifolds tonight for stopping AIM uttering nonsense about the people who are really looking back to Sanatan Dharma. I guess this is the biggest issue with most INDn intellectuals. They can't limit their talks to their area of expertise, I don't know why, a sense of entitlement maybe. I'm a fan of AIM as well, but only a fan of his expertise. Other than that, he is the exact opposite of what I want my child to be.
Anyways, coming to my point of contention, and this is for AIM and his followers who agree with him on this. The people who are looking back to ways of Sanatan, they aren't doing so out of any inferiority complex. Your theory doesn't apply in Bharat's case, for firstly, Bharat is now more assertive than ever it has been in the last millennium and secondly, your theory would have applied only if Bharat would have regressed by continuing to be on Sanatani ways. It wasn't so, so Sanatan ways have only positive baggage.
Even if we stop looking behind and look forward, what are the options we have? One option is of course Sanatani ways which is native, profound, truly inclusive and has most other good things. The other option is the "modern progressive" ways which in all reality strives to be monolithic, uniformist, is only trying to be inclusive only in the last 50 years or so and there are already cracks appearing. Isn't the choice obvious?
I mean, ask any woman anywhere in the world what they would choose? Right to roam naked on beaches or right to go for abortion i.e. right over her own body and not make it a family property. Again, I don't think anything choice has been more obvious than this.

@@AK-db2ph I guess that's the wrong approach of focusing only on the fanatics, and fanatics are everywhere.
The concepts and philosophy of Sanatan Dharma are universally true but their application and implementation varies with time and Sanatan Dharma readily accepts that. As a matter of fact, Sanatan Dharma is the only "panth" that's malleable and ductile, because it isn't limited to any book.
There are many instances in Mahabharata which explicitly says how things were different from the time of Ramayana in Treta Yuga.

In middle school world history in US there was one day class on Indian sub continent partition with inputs from students. This was 16 years back.
