  • Firearms generally have a very specific use in mind...and that is absolutely the case today...where we look at the Ruger PC Caribine 19116 model in a setup and preparation video. I discuss why, for me, part of the fun of getting my new firearm is learning about it...taking my time before getting to the range to go through it all, test the mechanics, and learn how to get it dialed in for field use.

Good stuff. I always clean the gun and oil it before it’s first shooting. Also, the PCC gun however needs a few part swap-outs with better aftermarket replacements. Swap out the following if you want ULTIMATE reliability with this rifle:
-MCARBO’s A2 tool steel extractor. Ruger’s is too soft and junk. Eventually, it causes FTE and FTF issues because the part has prematurely worn so bad. MCARBO’s is tool steel and does not wear down.
-MCARBO’s Shock buffer. Prevents the heavy steel and titanium bolt from constantly recoiling and striking the aluminum receiver like a jack hammer. Prevents cracking of the receiver, thus prolonging the life of the gun.
-MCARBO’s A2 tool steel bolt head pins. (Again, Ruger’s is mild steel junk, just like their factory extractor).
-MCARBO’s Stainless recoil spring retainer. Ruger’s is thin cheap plastic garbage. Seriously, like WTF???
-MCARBO’s Longer aluminum charging handle. It allows two fingers instead one one. It’s worth it’s price in gold.
-CROM’s PC carbine G-Lock magazine catch. It a polymer-hybrid piece that protects the retention “lip” on a Glock magazine if used. Glock mags used with the Ruger supplied metal mag catch, will eventually wear out the retention lip on the Glock magazine. This is important for California and other “10-round” compliant states, where people have grandfathered hicap mags that they don’t want ruined from the constant metal-to-polymer friction contact created while shooting.
No, I have no affiliation nor financial benefit to either MCARBO or CROM USA. I’m just sharing info to fellow PCC enthusiasts.

One advantage to getting a new firearm in winter is that there is bad weather time to do just what you discuss - learning how it operates and handles, learning how to break it down, maintain it, clean it and reassemble it. Learning about and addressing weaknesses that can be improved upon, thinking about and exploring options for accessories and their mounts. I have spent a month becoming familiar with the carbine and setting it up just the way I want it without yet firing a single live round. Range time will come soon as the weather improves. Thanks for sharing your perspectives on this process.

I mounted a sling, Sig Saur Romeo5, and a light on my home defense Ruger PCC 9. I mounted a Holosun on my HD Glock 19 with light. Works perfectly to have both using Glock mags! I mounted a Holosun HS403R on my Mossberg 500 too. My wife loves her S&W 586 with 38 spl rounds. I also mounted an LPA sights and mounted a Romeo5 too.
All these red dots have the Shake and Wake technology because I do not want to fiddle with the on/off switch in the middle of the night. You get up and you go. I feel if you don't have the Shake and Wake technology, you're not prepared enough.

I always take a new gun to the range before bolting on all the accessories so that I can do a real function check before I go scratching up the slots in case I have to return it.
If the gun has I will shoot to verify or adjust zero with those before adding any optics. That way I know I can fall back on them if I have an optical problem or choose to take it off

I got the PC carbine and PC Charger, but knew right off the bat I wanted upgrades such as folding stock/pistol grip chassis and aftermarket bolt buffer. The buffer makes a huge difference in recoil impulse, and with the already short action of the bolt, these guns cycle so smoothly. The only downside is they’re heavy, but the upside is they absorb recoil better. Pros and cons, as with anything.

I do the same exact thing before ever going to the range. I take it apart to see how it's built, then just get familiar with loading and unloading, then adding accessories. I'm picking one of these up next month.

Interesting video, good advice, thanks. I have the later "chassis" carbine version with the MAGPUL MOE stock. I added a MAGPUL pistol grip for the storage space (Allen wrenches, red dot sight coin batteries, etc.). UPGRADES->1.) Most MCARBO parts including mini brake, mag release button, extractor, bolt buffer pad, bolt pins 2.) TANDEMCROSS bolt spring, 3.) TACCOM solid Delrin mag well extension and ambidextrous safety levers ( to replace the RUGER push button) 4.) MAGPUL pistol grip, angled forearm grip, MBUS sights, 1/4" high snap-on MOE cheek piece (for perfect eye-to-reticle-alignment) 5.) HOLOSUN AEMS circle/dot sight, etc. etc.
The heart of tis RUGER PCC is its great cold hammer forged barrel. And the trigger group is nice too at 3 lbs. 6 oz. average pull.
Yeah, it's homely looking but like a homely girl who's great in bed the RUGER PC is fun and totally reliable. ;o)

I just won one of these at a local gun raffle. Admittedly, I'm not really a gun guy. I have 2 hunting rifles (mine and my late grandfather's), a 12ga shotgun, and my concealed carry. So the carbine is completely new territory for me. Typically, when I get a gun, I check the mechanics of it first. Then I go straight to the range (aka, the local farm field) and shoot.
With the carbine, understanding what it is and what its purpose is, I will probably shoot it first, see how the iron sights work for me, and go from there. In my head, I feel like I want to add a red dot sight and a vertical grip, but I won't know for sure until I actually get the gun and shoot it.

Great video, thanks! I’m looking to buy my first home defense firearm and have settled on the Ruger PCC based on the many videos out there but this was the most helpful for a first time owner.
Do you have an opinion on the standard shoulder stock compared to the backpack stock on the basis of comfort and targeting ease for a first time owner?

    • @OuterLimitless2
      @OuterLimitless2  9 месяцев назад +1

It depends on your objectives...I personally am not a big fan of the backpacker stock rather than the full hand guard and m-lock options and flexibility you get with from the hand guard. Also, if magpul had the hunter-x version i might be more inclined, but I personally don't see the advantage to the backpacker, but definitely a personal preference decision.
