  • I was able to get the Tamiya Hotshot 2 built and I love the look of this buggy. The black paint job, the low-slung body line and aggressive look just make me happy. Eventually it will get run around but for now enjoy the build with me!

    My friend had a hotshot. That was the beginning of the end. I got a boomerang that Xmas. The old man built it for me. It took him a week after work. I wore the tires out the following week. The next Xmas I got a hotshot 2. I remember loving the black. I also remember the old man being amazed that I built that car on Xmas day at the age of 10. Clearly i pulled the boomerang apart a few times by then. I also remember not being able to keep a speed controller in that car for long. The things just melted. He got me a technigold motor for the hot shot at some point. So now when he sees me driving a rc he says "has that one got the "gold " motor in it?" I think to myself "thats close enough." Looking back it was a privilege to have toys like that.

      That is awesome and thanks for sharing the story, I love hearing stuff like that! I loved the part about him taking 3 days and you taking one! The motor part was funny too! I am glad it brought back some great memories and again, thanks for sharing, it made me smile!

      The one thing I love about this hobby and those that have been doing it for 4 decades plus. Is the stories we had as a kid getting our first kits and it was likely our fathers assembled it. My dad is still alive but sadly doesn't participate and his Tamiya Fox sits in a cabinet as he left it when he stopped being a kid at heart. I miss those times.

      I do love the mono-shock look, the performance is not always the best but man do they look great like that! The Fox is super nice looking and that sleek front end has a lot to do with it. Thank you! The driver figures can be intimidating to do. Learning how to brace your hands to avoid the shakes is the best tip I can give. That and multiple coats usually end up with better results than trying to do it all at once. The BR will happen at some point, not sure when but it is on the list. I have to get the Top Force and the Manta Ray first!

    I also love the Hotshot series of buggies, though never owned or built any.
    The hotshot 2 looks delightful, it always reminds me of a fast, devious rat!!!!
    Such a different kind of build, and a truly timeless design.
    I actually also like the block head edition, but hate what they done with the roof line!
    Some things are sacred, and should never be messed about with.

I love the sleek and aggressive look it has, looks fast and mean sitting still! For the GHM edition I could have gotten over the copy/paste paint job but messing with the roofline was what upset me most. In the end I got the Notshot out of it so that was something special!! I typically over grease, it is a bad habit but I would rather it be more than needed than not enough! Awesome stuff! Looks great. Really think they would have been smarter to bring this one out BEFORE the not shot version lol - think their sales might have gone through the roof right from the beginning.

      Thanks Freddy! I kind of understand the release of the BHM first to boost sales of that but when it turned out to be a bit of flop they really should have rushed these out the door to get what folks really wanted out of a kit! Tamiya marches to the beat of their own drum and behind closed doors in a vault!! LOL! We will never know what they are doing or why. I hope they learned their lesson and not make copycat paint schemes but who know, a blue, white and yellow grasshopper be next! LOL!

    As always great video nice work. I'm with you on the hot shot 2 blockhead edition. I think they really missed the mark with that one. They tried to capitalize on the mild success of the wild one. I have built every re release that Tamiya has put out. I noticed at the end you mentioned a super hot shot. I built the super hot shot about 9 months ago and it still sticks with me. I don't know what it is about that car but it's still my favorite. I'm with you I love the mono shock because it looks great. The super hot shots dual front does perform better. If you're debating picking up a super hot shot I can recommend it. You'll enjoy it. Take care of my friend.

      Thank you! Yeah the BHM version was kind of a flop. Bother the lazy copy-cat paint scheme from the first and the odd decision to raise the roofline ruined it for me. I am just glad they re-released the original version and I get to have this cool one in the collection. I do want to get the Super Hotshot but I always drag my feel on any kit once it goes over the $250 mark for some reason. It is like my mental barrier for buying them. $200 or less I tend to buy them without a second thought but once it creeps up to above $250 I feel like I am getting overcharged as there is not that much difference in the kit from say a $200 one so I drag me feet a lot more! I am sure I will grab one up though as many folks have said it is the best one by far! I am glad you enjoyed building yours and thanks for reaffirming it is one I should add to the collection! Take care and have a great week!

      I completely understand where you're coming from on that one. It does seem that some of the kiys out there are priced too high. One good thing the Tamiya super hot shot has going for it is that it includes a full set of bearings and a better GT tuned motor versus the normal silver can. That kind of helped me justify the price being a little higher. The Tamiya hot shot 2 (the real one not the bhm version) is around $195 currently. The Tamiya super hot shot is around $225 but if you really take your time sometimes they show up cheaper. I looked at the super hot shot for close to 2 years before I finally purchased it. One popped up on eBay brand new inbox sealed for $205. At any rate I'm rambling sorry for that. If you do end up getting one I'm looking forward to seeing the video on it. As always take care.

      Thanks Dom, it is a great looking buggy. The sleek and aggressive design and the blacked out look make it look really mean! I will probably get the Super HS to be able to complete the set. I tend to drag my feet a lot more on the pricier kits and for some reason the SHS is way more expensive for not a ton of extra. Here in the states the HS 2 goes for around $200 and the HS goes for around $250-260 and the SHS goes for about $370. I have a hard time swallowing the price jump for a pair of shock towers and shocks and a few other minor changes. I have seen them cheaper on eBay from time to time but have not bought one yet.

    front shot spring? and ideas where to get a firmer one or just go to hobby shop and grab something off the shelf?

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  Месяц назад

      I am not sure of a stock spring that long and any stiffer. The original HS springs are stiffer but shorter so that probably wont help. You may find something at the hobby shop but it may be hard to find something in the right length and diameter that is stiffer. It will be a comparison of them manually to find something. I am not sure of a direct replacement for it. Yo may check somewhere like TamiyaBase or Tamiya Club online forums to see if folks have found something readily available to fit it.

    Hi Addam, I've yet to build my Hotshot 2 and it will be my first ever model that I have to include a driver figure. I was thinking of putting a visor on the helmet instead of trying to paint the face, any suggestions what I could use as a visor? Best wishes, Paul.

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  Месяц назад +1

      Hi Paul! It is a great looking buggy and really needs that driver figure in there! Painting the face is not that bad, I paint the flash tone on first and then tough up the face mask with the white. The eye are just dots from a ultra fine tip sharpie, But I do get it, not the easiest thing especially as I get old and the hands get a little bit shakier! For a visor you could use some scrap lexan if you have any or even a piece from a clear food container to cut it out from. Find a broom handle or something similar and heat up a piece of it with a hair dryer on high or a heat gun on low and wrap it around the handle and let it cool. It should hold some form to it and then place it over the driver helmet and trace the outline of the opening. Then just cut it out, paint it silver or black and then with toothpick use a few dots of E6000 or ShoeGoo to glue it on after the driver is painted. you could also use a blob of the blue poster tack in the face cavity and just press it into place and it should hold on to it pretty much permanently as well. That is the best idea I have for doing it. Hope it works out well. Take care!

      The HS is a classic icon and the HS2 makes it look like it's dark alter ego. I need to get the Super HS and figure out where that one fits in. I am thinking the high school jock who looks flamboyant and a bit extra but you can't deny it performs much better than the others. One of these days I will get one to complete the set! The driver does look a little surprised, whether he did it or not. I think a proper driver figure should have a look of determination or terror in their eyes!!
