  • After a long time waiting to get rebuilt and some setbacks along the way, the Outlaw Ultima rebuild is done. The only thing lacking is the stock wheels in the rear, but I am still looking for options. It turned out looking great with the Team Blue Groove body set and the MCI decals making it look all pretty and new! This kit was donated to the channel and a huge thank you goes out to James for sending it to me for a rebuild project, I hope it makes you smile seeing it all back together and looking good!
    You guys are all awesome and I appreciate all the great comments and questions from everyone. Really enjoying talking to you all in the comments section.

      Thanks Steve, it looks great and I am glad I went with the black. It is really snazzy looking and makes the decals really pop. I should have hit it with the clear pearl first but forgot I got a can of it! The mistakes with the side guards was just me not looking up the instructions and making assumptions which cost me! It happens and in the end it turned out great so it was worth it, even doing it the hard way! LOL!

    I really like this. There is something about old school stadium trucks. I just love it. I dont know if it's the boxy 80s 90s trucks styling. Or the potential capabilities being ultima based. I just loved that era of race buggy converted to trucks. It just screams the good old days

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  2 месяца назад +2

      I agree, the old stadium trucks were just cool! They were the hottest thing out there for a number of years! I love them for the looks and handling, the often cornered much better than the buggies, those big chunky tires kicking up dirt also looked super cool too! I remember waiting weeks on end and scouring the old TV guide for stadium truck racing to show up on Wide World of Sports on the weekends to see the real ones in action! Ahhh the good old days!

      Thank you! It turned out great! I am with you, if they would re-re some of these kits they would be rolling in the money. The Raider and various Ultima lines would make them tons of money! They are too busy slapping new bodies on the same chassis over and over again though.

      Yeah it took a while to get done! I did turn out looking really sweet and I was able to get a set of factory wheels on there way here as well. So hopefully they get here and I can get it on matching wheels! I did get it out for a drive and there were issues, you will see that in the next video. The beard needed to get trimmed back for the hot weather and it was just getting too long in general. Once it gets to a certain length it enters the danger-zone of getting caught in things so I try and avoid that if at all possible! I will be working on a collection video and maybe a hobby room/rooms tour soon as well!

    Very nice of James to donate it, and you really done it justice..... great job on the restoration.
    As for the time span, you just can't rush these projects..... they are done over the course of years not months.
    It takes a long time hunting these vintage and obsolete parts down..... which is actually half the fun!
    And, I loved the DIY gasket hack..... I will have to remember that one.
    I bet TBG and MCI love you, loads of business!
    Black was the right call on the colour, turned out stunning!

      It is a cool truck and it turned out very nice! I just need to track down a set of those rear wheels and I can call it complete! This came out in those transition years when the stadium trucks were really becoming the hot new thing. I think the big names like the RC10T (which came out about a year later) really took over and hogged all the spotlight. TBG and MCI do get a small amount of business from me, I try to keep it one time purchases but in this one I have to go back a few times so the shipping killed me! I am very glad I went with the black paint scheme, it looks really nice and makes the decals really pop. If you do find one on eBay make sure it has the front body mount on it, that was impossible to find by itself for me! I almost started to try and make my own when I found that junker chassis. I am glad you enjoyed it and take care James!

I love a RC with a story or some history behind it, it makes them much more special and unique. Anyone can go to the store and buy on but one given to you for one reason or another that has a story to go along with adds a special level of cool that can't be bought. • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  2 месяца назад

      Thanks! It turned out looking really snazzy in the black paint scheme, it really makes the decals pop! It probably depended on the track conditions if you ran the side guards or not. In dry conditions it may catch a lot of dirt and rocks inside so they probably would leave them off. I the wet it would probably do very well to keep the excess weight from collecting in the chassis. It looks kind of silly without it so it was a must for the rebuild but for racing I can see them as optional. I will try and get it out for a run this weekend in the morning before the heat rolls in. I sure do miss the winter!

There was a huge push in the very late 80s and the early 90s for 2wd truck racing and this one one of the first ones out there for it. All the manufacturers were trying to adapt their existing buggies over to truck while they were developing specialty trucks. There were a lot of great ones made through this time and slowly the morphed into the sleeker and more molded bodies into the mid 90s like the RC 10t and the loads of others trying to compete with it!

It can be fun to look for deals on parts but it can also be frustrating trying to find parts that are not common or just plain hard to find. This was a mixture of both! I am still struggling to find a good set of those wheels. Gives me something to do when I wake up in the middle of the night and can't sleep! LOL!

    Hi Addam, sorry I've missed a couple of vids but having a difficult time over here at the moment! Anyway, great score with the spare chassis and the useful parts you could rob off it! But dude, that body looks so cool and you are right, the stickers pop on the black. Haha, your story about the undertray/side covers made me chuckle! You are not alone my friend! Those pics at the end really showed it off! Great work! 😎👊👍

      Thanks Mark, it turned out pretty sweet. No worries on missing a few, life is more than toy trucks on RUclips! I hope all is well and whatever is going on blows over quickly. You and the family will be on my thoughts and prayers bud! The black paint job was the way to go, I am sure the white/blue paint scheme would have looked good too but this really shines! I intentionally left the story in there as I know we all make mistakes, sometimes several in the same project!! This one was very avoidable with a couple minute to look at the instructions! LOL! I am glad you enjoyed it Mark and I hope you have a great week!!

      Thanks Richard! It is a neat cross-over from the buggy era to the Stadium truck era in the late very late 80s and into the 90s. This one came out in 1990 and like a lot of the early one it was very much a buggy with a truck wrapper on it but there is a fair amount of changes to make it all work out. It turned out looking great, the initial run was cut a bit short and that should be up on Wednesday's video.

    Hey Addam the Kyosho Outlaw Ultima is looking good, I would do the same just take it out for a run in the grass and not to crazy, that is a rare RC and pretty sure that certain parts are very difficult to find. And the ones you do find may be a bit expensive. That is a sweet looking body with that paint scheme. Take care and best wishes to you and the family.

      Thanks Al! It turned out looking pretty sweet and I am very happy I went with the black paint scheme on it. It is so shiny and really makes the whole truck pop! I was able to get a set of wheels on the way, they need to be stripped and cleaned up a lot but I think once those are on it will be fully completed! It will get out for the light run, I mostly don't want to scratch up the pretty body LOL! Some of the parts for this on are a real pain to find and you really have to get the google-foo going to find some! LOL! Take care Al and I will email you soon to set something up.

      Thanks Erick, it turned out looking quite nice! The ordering of stuff for this one turned into a struggle for me! I needed to pay more attention to what I was buying before clicking things! LOL!! The only thing left is the wheels and they seem pretty scarce as I have not found any yet in months of checking. I am starting to look for other brands and after market. Sadly most of the after marker are all hex front and not the bearing fronts. one of these days I will stumble across some! I look forward to seeing your projects, Losi RCs are tough to find parts for as well! ONe of the reasons I don't have any vintage ones in the collection yet. I will get this one out as soon as this heat wave passes or we at least get a dry feeling day!

      Thanks Pete! It turned out looking great! I took some trial and error getting all the parts, Kyosho don't reuse quite as many parts as Tamiya does so it is a bit more hit or miss at times finding the right thing! Tamiya is more like "parts tree F, sure, that went on 38 other kits!" LOL. I will get it out for a drive and I will give it what she's got in the grass, I just wince at the thought of that pretty body grinding across the dirt on the track if it rolls! LOL!

    That's a great looking truck, its a shame that they don't seem to be that common or popular these days, well in the UK at least. Kyosho don't make a modern equivalent, nor Tamiya if you ignore the Blitzer Beetle and Aqroshot. The only ones seem to be made by Team Associated, the modern Truggy RC10T6.4 and the RC10T re release. I have an RC10T on order, but not sure if I'll build it yet.

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  2 месяца назад

      Yeah, the only stadium trucks out there are ones like Schumacher, Associated, Xray and some other high end ones that are too much for me to want to buy. I do have the RC10T on order as well, I could not pass up on getting that icon. Everyone in the 90s was running them or trying to keep up with them! I really wish Losi would stop selling tiny RCs and get on board with the demand for the re-release ones, there were a lot of cool ones from them back then!

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  2 месяца назад

      The servos are easy, I get mine from Amazon and here is my Amazon link to them - amzn.to/4bvnx3P right now they are about $18 for a pack of 4. Out of the more than a hundred I have used only 2 have failed or glitched so far.
      For the receivers, I get mine from eBay usually and just search for the part number of the stock one and it should pull a big listing for the replacements on there. I use the SR3100 Spektrum knockoffs with mine as I got hooked on the Spektrum radios years ago and now all of them have those receivers in them so I am kind of married to them now! LOL!! I can usually get them for $13-15 a piece and many have deals where if you order more than one or two you get a price break on them. you just have to shop around to find the best deal on them between price and shipping costs.

      No, the side guards came from Team Blue Groove. If I were paying attention they offer everything as a set so you get the body, the number plates and the side guards all in one package. However I ordered the body alone and then realized they other parts were needed so I had to order them separately. TBG has a ton of reproduction bodies and I have gotten quite a few from them over the last few years. Great stuff, much thicker than the vintage shells are so they hold up a lot better!
