The only way that thing would hit 160 is if you dropped it from a C-130...
Yeah. 100 MPH speedometers would be better.

You're right Jeffery. 100 MPH would be better. These high speed units keep your eyes off the road too long trying to read them. And they're maddening when trying to set the cruise control!

"Look what I just bought" --- That is a false statement. Isn't Scotty Kilmer supposed to be an honest mechanic? I'm disappointed. Please respect the audience's time.
Why recommend a car because its cheap with a transmission he warns against when the transmission replacement will cost as much as the car. Also, though known to be unreliable the Nissan cvts Ive driven is so much smoother than the one in my Corolla.
My guy.. you can stay in the city in the sky. In lala land. You dont have to watch scottys videos. We will stay in reality with scotty and enjoy his content and quality information.
@@qrm8772 The only reason the Nissan CVT's are branded as unreliable is because people neglect to take them to the dealer to change the fluid.
@@ssjMaximum22Goku You don't have to take them to a dealer. We take our (Australian market) 2010 Nissan Maxima 2.5 V6 to a trusted mechanic. When it comes to the CVT, he sends it to an automatic transmission specialist who do CVT maintenance everyday. Our car recently clicked over 75,000 kms (47k miles) and they said the oil was clean as a whistle when doing the CVT oil change.
I tell my wife the same two words over and over "mechanical sympathy" When the car is cold, baby it when taking off and driving until it gets warm and avoid really hard off the line starts, take off smoothly before giving it the beans. I am hopeful, I'll get another 10 years and 100,000 kms (62.5k miles) out of it with regular maintenance and mechanical sympathy. The car is just extremely smooth to drive, it really is a joy. I would be heart broken if the transmission gave out. Two neighbours had the same car and both did over 150,000 kms (93k miles) without any CVT transmission issue.

People in Canada or northern Europe will swear by Nissans, and claim they're reliable, people from Arizona or Florida have horror stories.
I'm wondering if their problem maybe overheating, and wearing out the rubber in the trans (the V6s usually have steel belts instead, which explains Maximas and Muranos being generally more reliable)...where exactly are you guys from?
@@naywahn Its called poor quality control. Its why one person may have a car do 300K miles with minimal issues while other blew the motor at 100K, and another blew the tranny at 50K.
Its why Toyota is considered so reliable, its not just their engineering, while that is a part of it, any of these companies can engineer a reliable car, its not tough, but having the QUALITY CONTROL to ensure that every engine/transmission that leaves your facility is built to 100% efficiency is another story.
This is why you'll hear scotty yell "Mercedes are money pits". Yet he'll also say "Unless you live in Germany".
Same car, same engine/transmission/everything else, so what gives? Well, they're manufactured in Mexico, or America, where the workers do a way worse job at quality control when putting the cars together.
The standards over here are different than there.
Toyota rewards people for finding problems, other car brands would probably fire you/ignore it. Just how it goes.
The location/factory will depend allot on how the cars coming out of that factory are as far as quality goes.
This is why one EXP may be great, another terrible, but if you average that out, that's a 50/50, not REALLY worth the risk, whereas a Toyota ensures that 100% of customers all get the same quality regardless of factory/location, and therefore, they are considered reliable.
So to answer your question, if what you're saying is true, its because the cars manufactured in Canada/Europe are held to higher standards in the manufacturing process, though, even in those circumstances, the best Nissan factory still probably doesn't compare to the best Toyota factory.

YESS CVT BAD NEWS!!
Only been a real problem for Automatic Transmission my Sentra is Standard Transmission and is pushing 120,000 miles still going strong.
William Carter yes the manuals are good
The newer Sentras seem to have improved transmissions because I was considering a car like this after my last got totaled and there are way less complaints online for transmission issues after 2016 or 2017 with high mileage. Still would never consider one without having a mechanic seriously look at it like Scotty mentioned.
Buy a newer Nissan with a manual transmission
Agree with Scotty 100%. Some of the older Nissans with conventional automatic transmissions can be a solid buy. With Toyota you are paying a lot more for something that is marginally better.
Every poor student & young shift worker is looking for that elusive old but low mileage Corolla!
I'm so thankful that you know so much info about cars!!!
Hi Scotty, I Iive in the south of Brazil, and have just bought a 2016 Sentra SV with 59k kilometers. It´s my second Sentra as I had a 2008, which I bought it brand new, both with CVT. The first one I used it for 11 years with no problems at all, but I'm a low mileage guy and I sold the 2008 in Nov 2018 with only 50K kilometers. So, it's my first used Sentra and the first thing I´ll do is to check and change the CVT fluid, as a preventive action, everything else in the car seems ok. Back in 2008 I chose Sentra after comparing it with the Corolla, and decided to buy the Sentra because if you buy a Corolla that costs the same as a Sentra you will have to take home a basic model, this is the Toyota price strategy used for the brazilian market. For example, the chepeast Corolla that costs the same as a mid range version of the Sentra does'nt even have a cruise control, and that sucks. So, because of high prices and lack of comfort equipments compared to the Sentra and for the type of use I make with my cars (5k kilometers per year), I chose Sentra that has a better cost benefit, in my case. Thanks for the videos!
Scotty, I have a 2001 Nissan Sentra, 1.4. And I'm very happy with it.
Nothing wrong with a Sentra, the leftovers are cheap as hell right now. Wouldn't mess with the CVT though. But you could get a leftover 2019 with the manual for like $13-14K right now.
What are your thoughts about the Chevy Cheyenne 1994 2500 long bed with a Tommy gate. It worked in an airport
I've learned alot from your videos, Thank You Scottie!
I got the Same Nissan but with the manual transmission. Love it !
Surprised he didn't get the manual as much as he praises them🤔
Nissan can save the manual transmission.
I drove one while my maxima was in the shop (sunroof track replacement) and it was fun, but it was the auto, I wish I could have driven a manual one, I bet it would be a blast on back roads.
I have a customer who has a 13/14 Sentra and he said it had 65,000 miles and was on it’s 3rd transmission
I had 2014 Sentra 6 speed. I miss that car. No issues and maintained it fully. I would def buy another one
Great, informative video. I got my used 2018 Sentra in 2020 for ballpark $12k. That's an absolute steal compared to what we are seeing now... transmission feel isn't my favorite (I also flushed at around 64k miles) but other than that it's had no problems in the 2 years I've owned it with fairly moderate use.
Great value buy

This is basically what we did - got a 2014 at 2 years old at the time 26k miles for just a bit above half price of when it was new. Corollas for the same price has about 80k miles and were a few years older. Changed the CVT fluid at 50k miles. It's around 54k now. No issues yet!
Andrew O
As long as you take care of your coolant & CVT flushes every 25-50K your transmission could take you to 220K miles

There's a reason why Nissan sells CVTs redundantly!

The cracked windshield may not bother you, but the tickets you get will certainly bother you.
Indeed. Way back in 1984 my car got hammered by a hail storm in Austin TX with egg sized hail stones. Damage repair estimate: $3K on a car that new cost $6K, mostly sheet metal. I was informed that by state law glass and headlights/turn signals/stop lights all had to be intact, no cracks, no holes. @@MainMite06 nope. He barely does anything. Just cleans the wipers and late for oil and maint. Drives rough too
I have a 2020 Nissan Versa sr with 60k and I brought it new but I drive a lot and do doordash
Back in the day I had a 1968 Chevelle. You could almost climb into the engine compartment to work on it. 😁
Hey scotty, I have a 2007 ford expedition and sometimes when I take out the key the vehicle doesn't turn off so I leave it running and a little while later when I come back its turned off WHAT CAN IT BE!!!
Is the key real worn down? If so use the spare key. If it is worn down the ignition switch will not know key removed and gravity/temp can make it "fall" into place with time. If the worn key is not reason than it is your ignition switch.
@@nosoupforyou425 ok I will try and use he spare key
@@alfredolopez1396 feel your pain. Had an older tbird that did this. I thankfully was fixed with the spare key trick and sold it years later. Ignition switches are not that expensive if you have go that route - good luck
