Hey Scotty, I own a 2001 Toyota Sequoia with 238k Miles. It has a P0770 code for a shift solenoid that has been popping up. I have had the transmission serviced (changed the fluid, changed the trans filter, and the solenoids) I had two different transmission mechanics drive the vehicle and they said it shifted perfect. Any idea what can still be wrong?
Adrian : and which one would you want to be in a serious car crash in? I’ll take my Lincoln Navigator. Its also very reliable just do scheduled maintenance.
I have a 2009 V6 Ford Fusion. Best car I have owned. Nicely equipped. 261,000 miles running good. It was also listed on car complaints best used cars to buy. Its also listed as awesome.
Any reason for these specific years? I see video was posted in 2019, so what he really means is a year greater than or equal to? For example a Civic 2014? Or specifically the civic 2013?
I bought a 2009 Chevy Cobalt brand new off of the lot. I needed a 4 cylinder because I changed work locations and was driving 160 miles a day to work. I gave it to my son while he was in college and he still owns it. Now it has 220,000 miles on it and the only work done on it has been oil changes and accessory belt replacement.
I've been with my mechanic husband since 1985. I can tell you that we have never owned a new car. Normally our cars are from auctions or somewhere really cheap, fixed by him from junkyard parts and fixed just enough to run, no frills. He doesn't like working for free. He works at his "normal" job and always has side work after. His phone rings at all hours 24/7, 365. I hate it. People call on holidays, you name it. No one cares that he might have a life, a family. He lets people get by without paying and most never end up never paying and then want help again. Grrrr He has a hard time saying no. I would at least like them to pay for their parts since most of the time I have to pay for them and go get them from the parts store. Anyway, the point is, you can't go by what a mechanic drives. Ironically, my husband is a Lead Master Subaru Tech. lol My parents both own Subarus and my husband drives one. I don't. Maybe sometime we'll find a beater one cheap enough for me. lol Have you never heard the saying that the plumber has the leakiest pipes in town? Guys that fix stuff don't want to work on their own stuff at home. It's just the nature of the beast and they sure don't want to spend money on the new stuff 'cause they know how much of a waste it is.
Scotty, when I was selling used cars, and someone was looking at two cars, different brands, say Chrysler n Accord, same mileage, customer would likely ask, "why is the Accord so much more $$$?" Answer: "when u buy any car, new or used, all you r buying is UNUSED MILES, the Accord costs more because it has 200,000 miles left in it, the Chrysler is just about toast." That comment sold a lot of Toyotas and Hondas.

This channel is on reliability, easy maintanance and low cost. Nowadays are complex and not easy to work on. Toyota scores well, but it is because we don't rember how an old Merc w123 or old Volvo was. You paid more and got durability. Nowadays cars are tailored to a world market and part of the world demands cars that are disposibles. I support old world quality.

This man's knowledge is more valuable than nearly anyone elses in the auto field. I've used his advice a lot, so I trust to make my next purchase decision on his experience! Stay safe Scotty!
did you end up buying one of the five in this list? I can’t decide if I should get a new car and trade my jeep in, or if I should keep my jeep, which is paid off, and get another used car, probably the Honda Civic. I’m interested to see what you did!
have a 2005 accord only problem was a sensor on the radiator ,because the anti freeze acid start to damage the component ,50 dollars repair ,still like new,not even a noise
I had a 1995 Honda Civic DL Hatchback. It was one of the most sought after Honda's by Mexican criminals--it got stolen right from a motel parking lot! I found that fact out after the theft! It was found 2 days later in an alley on jacks with it completely stripped 2 miles away from the motel! I had full coverage so I got a good check from my insurance! But I now use a locking steering wheel security Club bar on my Mitsubishi LRV Sport van now!
My 2000 Toyota Corolla is my beater! Currently at 318,000 miles and its never had a major repair! My biggest expenses with it have been 6 sets of tires, new brake pads and multiple windshield wipers :) I've owned it since it was new and always changed the oil every 5000 miles. I use a computer program Automotive Wolf that monitors the maintenance schedule, repairs, fuel usage and other expenses and calculates the cost to operate the vehicle. My Corolla is at $ 0.06 per mile! My Ford truck is at $1.20 per mile :(
I have to say I have been watching this guy for so many years I ended up going to school to repair cars and trucks based on this guys impressive knowledge
@@wede7865 I switched tires, changed oil and filters, changed my driver side window power switch, and the door handle for the passenger seat. RUclips is pretty helpful. I even saved $300 by just pushing an object into my car’s shift lock than fixing it.
Got me a 2003 Camry with 180k miles to drive around during this pandemic. Never had one, NOT sexy or anything else, but the engine runs and sounds as if it was a fairly new engine. Completely impressed with this car. I am pretty confident I can run this to 300k with good maintenance.
I still currently have my 1994 Toyota Corolla. I'm at 235,000+ miles & it still runs great. Same engine & transmission. I got it 11 years ago for $2k cash & it hasn't given me any major problems. I just needed it to get me through college but it succeeded my expectations. I replace the battery, tires, and oil changes on a regular basis. It's truly a gem. I have no idea when it's gonna die on me, but I plan on keeping it until it does. At that, point I will purchase my first brand new car, more than likely another Toyota. It's funny because me & my car are both the same age 😂. I guess 1994 was a special year for Toyota ❤️

I agree, but I am recently a widow, and I have never done the “man’s work“. I had to watch a RUclips tutorial about how to change the battery in my key fob yesterday! Videos like this are priceless, real advice from somebody who knows and cares.
Scotty, bought a 2011 Camry like you suggested. So glad I did. She's got 195,000 on her but feel totally confident she'll make 300. Sounds and rides amazing. Thank you.
Folks, enjoy and appreciate these videos from a straight talker like Scotty while you can before they might disappear for some shady reasons in the future.

@@Imnolim Chevy Impalas are great cars if they ever have a little problem it's easy to fix and cheap as well see when you buy a car that's what you suppose to look at
As scotty said, some of the Accords had issues. But historically they have been quite reliable (prior to 2010 I'd say). The Civic's have usually been pretty good (the late 80's to late 1990's before the redesign in 2001, were the best IMO--I've seen a lot of those go 300-350k. Yes they were known to rust really bad after 10-12 years , but otherwise ran decent for many years...
I hear that. Better yet is not even having a car. Not having to worry about finding a parking spot, paying for repairs, insurance, worrying about breakins is also great. That is if you can get by without.
Honda accord, specifically the 02, they are invincible, I've gotten by with zero issues for 3 years on a 800 dollar auction junker with regular oil changes
I agree i had one only thing i changed was my ac converter , everything else was just spark plugs n oil change . lil over 250,000 miles same transmission road perfect. Then my bro wrecked it lol.
that is so true... im 13 so idk too much but my dad has an 02 accord and its got 217k miles on it still running perfectly, the only real issue its ever had were the catalytic converters went bad and even then its really not that bad but the only annoying thing was it was a car originally bought in califironia so it had the california grade converters so my dad had to get the replacement shipped down to texas from cali but other than that there have been no big issues with the car
My 2007 V6 Accord sedan has 240,000 miles and bought it new back in the day. My first new car. Still my daily commuter 50 miles a day in jammed packed city traffic. It’s still my baby and I could never sell it, ever!
m p - it’s an auto. No issues. I’m still driving around with the original factory floor timing belt!!! Lol. Never changed it yet. Probably change it this spring, if it doesn’t blow up.
My sister still has a Toyota FJ cruiser with well over 400,000 miles on it... yesterday we ran errands in it, I was amazed how great it looks, drives and rides as she has taken such good care of it. I felt like I was sitting in an almost new car!!! Too bad they discontinued it.
My mother has a 2012 Accord with the V6. It’s an absolute joy to drive. It sounds good, revs high, the suspension is firm without compromising the ride quality, no understeer at all and the steering weights up beautifully during cornering. I love that thing and I’m considering buying it off her when she gets her next car (which will he another accord lol).
My dad has a 2011 Toyota Camry XLE V6 and the thing is indestructible. At 103,000 miles, the alternator broke but he was still able to drive his car home in 5 degree weather with snow everywhere. He’s taken good care of it so I’m happy it’s the 1st pick. It’s super comfortable and does what a car does best, start up and drive. Alternator has been the only real major thing he’s had to replace yet, I tell you, you can’t kill a Toyota, they’re a tank in disguise. 🤷🏽♂️
I have a 2012 fusion and it's been a great car, been doing a few things to it for maintenance. After the new plugs she's getting 31.7mpg average. has 187,000 miles on it.👍
Dude I have. 1999 Toyota Corolla with 130k miles on it. But if I go far distance it stalls. I’m not sure what the issue is. When I took it to autozone it says I have to replace the engine control module. Have any thoughts?
Happy to know my 2013 Civic is on the list. It has been absolutely trouble free. I did recently slap a new battery in it just because the original factory battery was still in it. I’m a maintenance freak. Also recently got all new rear brakes...they were toast. It needed rotors, calipers, and pads...it was all shot. Runs like a champ and reliable as hell. I picked it up used a little over 4 years ago. I found out it was a Hawaii car. I insisted they threw it up on a lift so I could inspect the underside for rust damage before I agreed to buy it. Salt air is always a red flag. The only thing that annoys me about it is those stupid tire pressure sensors. Every winter season, I slap on my steel rim mounted studded snow tires in my driveway. The stupid tire pressure gauge lights always go on. Screw it, I have a compressor and tire pressure gauges.
You seem to really slap your car a lot😂. I bought a 2011 accord V6 just last week, but apparently it stopped turning on, the weather dropped to -25 and that might be the reason, gonna try jump starting and then see how the battery's life is like
@@rushil505 I only slapped it twice, lol. As for battery life, I figure about 7 years is a good time for a new one. Mine was the original factory battery; so, I replaced it last year just for good measure.
@@warmothgmc yeah that's right. Actually I jump started the car and it started without any issues, so it was the battery which went cold cuz of the cold -25. Ima get the battery checked and possibly the alternator so it doesn't happen again because -25 is like everyday here in Alberta
I had a 2012 Honda Civic and never had a problem with it. Put 244,000 miles on it, had regular oil and filter changes, new battery at around 92k miles and about three sets of tires.
A Mercedes w123 is super reliable, easy to work on, lasts very long in extreme conditions and is gaining value, instead of losing value. 1 million miles for the diesels is not an exception. Why doesn't Scotty bring that one up? Toyatas aren't that strong, except for a Land Cruiser maybe.
6:57 YAAY! In Malaysia, this was called the Corolla GL. I bought a used 1982 model when it was 9 years old. Rear wheel drive. Turned out to be among the best car I ever had. Mechanics also love Corollas. Uncomplicated to repair, and parts are reasonably priced.
Got 2 Accords n a Civic currently in my stable. Got them all used n still running perfectly : - 2000 Accord 2.3L with 380k - 2003 Accord V6 3L with 210k - 2006 Civic 1.8L with 220k
@@vincecarlo absolutely, just bought a 2011 accord V6. The car ran perfectly and got it checked with a mechanic too. Apparently I tried to start it yesterday and it won't start, probably cuz the weather dropped to -25c, probably going to jumpstart it and check for the battery life, lmk if you've got any other tips with this problem? Also the anti theft system seems to be on, again symptoms of low battery but I never know unless a mechanic checks it
I owned 3 cars in my life... and I'm 68. 1) used 1974 Plymouth Duster v8 and 3 speed manual floor shift 2) 1989 Camry automatic 4-cyl 3) 2000 Corolla automatic 4-cyl and it is headed toward 300K mile with original muffler. New fuel injectors and valve cover... Paid for 15 years ago ; I was working and paying off a brick house. A car is a machine.
Bought a 2009 Honda Accord Coupe V6, 5 years ago for $5 K. Now over 200k. Runs like new. I feel incredibly blessed. Checked the Carfax first. Timing chain replaced already etc. Good luck out there.
I've owned a '98 and a '99 Camry, and put over 300K miles on each, with no engine or automatic transmission issues on either one. The things were bullet proof as far as the engine and drivetrain went. They were hands down the most reliable and trouble free cars I have ever owned. I finally sold them because they were old as heck, and starting to look a bit rough around the edges, but they were still driving great. I really don't know how many miles they eventually had on them, as both odometers stopped working sometime after turning over 300k miles. I continued to drive them several more years with no engine or drivetrain problems, so I don't know if they made it to 400k or not.....but I suspect that they did. Pretty awesome when the first thing that gives out is the odometer. I seem to recall having a couple power window motors go out toward the end too. But seriously, I don't recall ever having a problem with the engine or transmission. I've also had great luck with both Honda Accords and Civics, but I don't think they were as bullet proof as those Camry's. You really can't go wrong sticking with Toyota or Honda if you want a reliable car.
@Larry McCraw - looking for a decent vehicle on the cheap, didn't seem so difficult before! Found a comfy, economical car, mint with only 40k $850 (older man only used for grocery shopping). Wasn't fancy, but grew to love/appreciate it. Similar story: old lady in a Ford Fairlane ran stop sign in parking lot (claimed she didn't see it, I'd just turned in from rd) n totaled my reliable beloved - wadded like aluminum foil @ ~ 10mph. Hers: zero damage, mine: totaled out n only got $500!! Police report with her at fault! Ugh, still a lil bitter...
My 2011 Camry has 185,5xx on it and has needed nothing but oil, brakes, tires, etc like everything else. Nothing has worn out or given me any problems. I love it, and I plan on continuing to love it for multiple more years.
Honda civics are amazing. You want a reliable easy car? BOOM wanna fix it up and destroy mustangs in the quarter mile BOOM. The engine swaps are also endless. B16 B20 K20 ive even seen them LS swapped
I absolutely love the Tacoma. I had a 2012 Tacoma, but I had to sell it due to money issues we had at the time. It was a beautiful speedway blue and a quad cab.
Best car I’ve owned to date (and there’s been about a dozen) was a 2013 V6 Honda Accord Coupe EX-L that I bought used and put 120k miles on before I sold it. Commuted 90 miles a day for 4 years. All I had to do was change the oil. Just an outstanding car. Not even the headlights went out.
Bought a civic 2013 for 13k at 25,000 miles, all included. I wanted that or a corrola. With my desire to take care of it, I feel I made a really good investment and it will last a long time
I recently traded in a car with a Crystler 420A 4 cyl engine that had headgasket issues, a knock when reved up for a 2008 Honda Accord 4cyl 5speed Coupe. What a great car, good on gas, idles so smooth and beautifully with nearly 200k miles it still runs and sounds new with zero issues. Honda and Toyota are the top 2 most reliable cars on the market.
Hector Bermudez I had a 2000 Frontier that made it to 217,000 before the head gasket blew. Sounds great, but the engine and the transmission were the last things left to break! Everything else had already been replaced!
This man is 100% right when we were saving to buy our house here in Australia we sold our expensive 4x4s and SUVs and bought a Toyota Camry and Toyota corolla as around the world they are voted as the two most reliable car's ever built. We still have the Camry and we bought a new Toyota Hilux and they are brilliant car's!

I have a 2010 Ford Fusion with 255k miles & yet it’s still pullin!💪🏼 only issue that I’ve had multiple times is the rack &pinion but that’s pretty much it.
I pay 340/mo for standard insurance in michigan for a 2013 AWD ford edge. Bought it for 12.5 3-4 years ago at 80k miles. My wife loves the style. The biggest mistake of my life. I have replaced the same parts 3 times in the past 2-3 years.
I owned from 1992 Camry to 2019 Camry which is my current one...I commute to work about 218 miles roundtrip 5 days a week. I never missed a work a day. Thank you for the men and women who built this mean machine.
Yeah man! HP laptops suck. I switched to a Mac and have been using it heavily for work and leisure and it still works like a charm. Worth the price imo.
HP Laptops are far more dependable than some other brands. Battery will burnout after a couple of years because all Lithium ion batteries have fixed discharge cycles. But the motherboard, keyboard, touchpad, display, webcam all runs just fine. HP laptops are not the best in performance, but does really well as a tough workhorse, and won't leave you stranded.

I had a 1995 Toyota Corolla. with over 300,000 miles on it. That thing ran great! I couldn’t kill it! The only reason I got rid of it was because I was tired of driving around in a 95 corolla. I still see it zooming around town today. Toyota makes a great car. Honda also. I’ve had older civics that just wouldn’t die either.
Cam phasers go out like the Fords. Otherwise just normal maintenance. Because of the pricepoint Toyotas usually actually get serviced but I've gotten to watch an old pickup spatter the bottom end on the highway.
I've got an 04 accord v6 auto and Its a pretty damn good car. It's got 310,000 km and it's never had an issue outside of regular scheduled maintenance. My only complaint is that the timing belt which needs to be done every 160,000km is a real pain to get out due to the limited space the v6 leaves behind.
An unintended ode to my vehicle: I have a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and I absolutely love it. It has about 70K Miles on it, and I’ve never had any issues, except a broken windshield which was a rock‘s fault! The jeep took me from college graduation, across the country, all over the West Coast, then over to the south, we drove to the courthouse to get married in it, I picked up my husband’s urn in it (he passed away), I brought my newborn baby home in it and in two weeks I’ll be driving it to take her to her first day of fourth grade! So my jeep (who I’ve named Ruby) is kind of part of the family. She’s taking me through thunderstorms, the icy highways in the Rockies, down to the beach in Florida, and everywhere in between. She’s never let me down!

I would at least like them to pay for their parts since most of the time I have to pay for them and go get them from the parts store. Anyway, the point is, you can't go by what a mechanic drives. It's just the nature of the beast and they sure don't want to spend money on the new stuff 'cause they know how much of a waste it is.
My car was on that list. Where all my Accord people at? :D

@Larry McCraw Haha, funny about those odometers huh? I guess 250-300k miles is about as long as an odometer works.

Not even the headlights went out.
damn where do you work ? lmfao
Ackeem Rhooms lol. Lived north of Lake Pontchartrain, but worked in New Orleans.
I have an 09 Honda Accord EX-L Manual. 3rd owner so just changed a clutch. Otherwise, it's a sleeper. And, and runs like a dream. 107K...any takers?
5 used cars you should buy : japanese cars.
5 used cars you should never buy, ever : used european cars.
Makes sense. New guys do it better, less complacent.
European grape
Eko Laksono that’s true unless you buy it in Europe
Lou N yea till your ptsd kicks in when somebody downshifts and pops a flame
It’s funny because he hates on Japanese cars all the time
Bought a civic 2013 for 13k at 25,000 miles, all included. I wanted that or a corrola. With my desire to take care of it, I feel I made a really good investment and it will last a long time
@S yeah. Growing up my parents never REALLY took care of their cars. We went thdough several mostly through accidents
Playback speed 1.5 for cocaine Scotty
Playback speed 0.75 for dope Scotty!
DJ Chazzy Chaz dope Scotty is really funny 😄
DJ Chazzy Chaz 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Dude that's actually really good! Though I feel like 1.25 is more like coke than 1.5, 1.5 seems too much
Haha! That’s great.
I'm fucking crying dude it's so funny at those speeds xD
I bought a 2011 toyota camry in 2013 and it still is rolling. Bout 260,000 miles on it.
is it that good and worth it?
Mine is a 2000 Toyota Camry with 213,000 miles and still rolling
I’ve got a 2000 Altima with 367,000 miles. And with AC
Hector Bermudez I had a 2000 Frontier that made it to 217,000 before the head gasket blew. Sounds great, but the engine and the transmission were the last things left to break! Everything else had already been replaced!
i have a 2012 toyota camry with just over 100k miles on it, most solid car ive had so far
I'm still driving my 98' Camry around. Those things just keep going and going.
My wife's a 98 model,I hear ya.
Got 2010
Camry bought used with 147k , got it now on 221k miles . Great car always changing fluids
Somehow your craziness INSTANTLY made me trust you. Thanx Scotty!
This has quickly became my favorite RUclipsr.
IKR? I don't even own a car yet I love to watch him and I learn a lot...will be useful when I do buy one.
If you are looking for strong, reliable, value for money and everlasting car, go for Tractor Mercy Ferguson hhhh
Agreed !
He always moves like he's about to piss himself.....but I still love him
Oh, so he always does that? I was thinking he might have been on too much of something...
Ionut Cadar I think a little ADHD?? 😂😂
Probably cause he's so eager to share all his knowledge 📖
Ionut Cadar that’s nothing compared to Gordon Ramsay
@@ForTheWin2007 At least Gordan cooks his own.
5 used car best to buy:-
No5) 2012- 4 cylinder Honda accord
No4) 2012 - Ford Fusion.
No3) 2013- Honda Civic
No2) 2012- Toyota Corolla.
No1) 2011- Toyota Camry
I have a 2010 Ford Fusion with 255k miles & yet it’s still pullin!💪🏼 only issue that I’ve had multiple times is the rack &pinion but that’s pretty much it.
He be laughing at his own jokes , i love him 😂
Plus those animal pics 😂
only jerks laugh at their own bad jokes...I mean bad with this guy
Also His heads all over the video 🤣
@@0oo00 huh
He's just a genial, affable guy, thats all.
Just bought a 2012 Honda accord coupe with 80k miles 😊
My yugo's brakes went out. When I need to stop, I just turn the a/c on.
LOL
Funny
Funny me too! I turn my ac on in my 03 trailblazer and all of a sudden my truck shuts off in traffic 😅 keeps it entertaining
😂🤣😂
HILARIOUS 😄
Toyotas and hondas hold their value for a reason ... the market doesn't lie
Great! my 2012 Corolla is on the list. The only minor thing that went wrong was a rattleling heat shield at around 60k miles.Cost me $10 to repair.
“I hate it when I buy something that doesn’t hold up over time” *shows Hp laptop* Lol 😂
My 4yr oldHP still works...battery is shot tho. 🤷♀️
Yeah man! HP laptops suck. I switched to a Mac and have been using it heavily for work and leisure and it still works like a charm. Worth the price imo.
He's a car guy, not a tech guy.
I’ve had my old hp laptop for 10 years and it works better than my MacBook 😂
HP Laptops are far more dependable than some other brands. Battery will burnout after a couple of years because all Lithium ion batteries have fixed discharge cycles. But the motherboard, keyboard, touchpad, display, webcam all runs just fine. HP laptops are not the best in performance, but does really well as a tough workhorse, and won't leave you stranded.
5. 2012 Honda Acord. (4cyl)
4. 2012 Ford Fusion
3. 2013 Honda Civic

1. 2011 Toyota Camry (preferably 4cyl)
Still driving a 2001 Corolla, 227K miles, still running great!

Honda civic looks like bread loaf
@Edie Beacon what do u recommend,?
And the Civic 2012 that has the same engine and transmission, could be on the top as well?
You sell Honda’s for a living?
@@mjay8733 Mercedes E63 AMG or BMW M5
I had a 1995 Toyota Corolla. with over 300,000 miles on it. That thing ran great! I couldn’t kill it! The only reason I got rid of it was because I was tired of driving around in a 95 corolla. I still see it zooming around town today. Toyota makes a great car. Honda also. I’ve had older civics that just wouldn’t die either.
unfair sanic you get bored of driving a car for
Too long
Mechanic party: let’s see if we can blow up a Toyota engine.
Nathan Lewis but who can fix it?
@@gavinmartin4109 all of them?
I would love to see what would blow it up.
I'll bring the bleach
Cam phasers go out like the Fords. Otherwise just normal maintenance. Because of the pricepoint Toyotas usually actually get serviced but I've gotten to watch an old pickup spatter the bottom end on the highway.
Taurus were good cars . I still see tons of 20 year old Tauruses on the roads
I sold my 06 to some friends.
Its been 8 years, an additional 70K miles and still going strong.
They did replace the timing belt thou.
My Dad has a 2012 Fusion with 180,000+ on it. Very solid car
“Scotty what’s a good car to buy?” Scotty: get a old schwinn bicycle they last forever..
I listened to Scotty...I own three Schwinn mountain bikes parked van...
@@larrysouthern5098 lol
Scotty,
Are Honda pilot 2009-2015 dependable?
Schwinn bicycles are made like garabage. They wear out too fast and are endless money pits
Get a Toyota
Good luck finding anything from Schwinn now.
