Berettas are so beautiful
Yep and bereta is the oldest gun manufacturer in the world I think they made Cannon's back in the day
Beautiful and very reliable, the 92FS is my favourite.
Much more beautiful than plastic junk out there
I have an 85 and 84 and they are fantastic pistols!! Beretta is the Ferrari of pistols!! Forza Italia!!💪🏼❤️🇮🇹🇺🇸
Beretta has a great design.
The 92X is ridiculously reliable, so I don’t doubt the little Cheetah is a sweet shooter. Excellent video … thanks !!
Thanks for stopping by Douglas!
I have a Model 84. Purchased for a bargain price to low mention in early 80's. I have never had any kind of failure to feed or eject. These are will built pistols no doubt. Nice review!
These were around $300 in the early 1980's. I have one also.
I am jealous. Beretta is underrated in the U.S. I'm searching for a new CX4 Storm.
I picked up an 85BB just recently to add to my collection of classic Berettas. Replaced the stock plastic Beretta grip panels with new original Beretta walnut grip panels. It’s a beautiful pistol and a great shooter. Thx for your videos! Please keep them coming.
Great review!!! I have the 84FS with 13 rd mags and it carries very nice.
Thanks Bob! The Model 84 is an excellent Carry gun.
I love how the new 80X is looking. Can't wait for the reviews.
Me too but this model seems more traditional or classic.
@@Sheltowee1775 I agree, I think if the 80x sells well then they can start producing some without the pic rail, no optic mount, etc.
I want to carry a 380 and I'm between the p365, security-380 and the cheetah 80x. I want to hear how good it is
My Beretta 84 BB is my favorite handgun. You should do a Beretta 84/85 vs CZ 82/83. They are kind of unique as compact, duty-sized 380 handguns
That's the first gun I ever bought Don you have the best gun channel on RUclips keep up the great work love those intros!!👍🍰🇺🇸
Thanks Alan! I appreciate the kind words Brother!
i have this firearm's older brother in my father's WWII bring back Beretta 1934. It is in excellent shape and a sweet shooter as well. Unlike the Cheetah, the 1934 is single action only.
The Italian Army used those until the mid-90's, even though the Navy went to the Model 1951 in 9mm
Check out the Tisas Fatih in .380. It's a Turkish Beretta 84/85 Cheetah clone that's actually licensed by Beretta and very decently made. The best part is it's much cheaper at half the cost of an Beretta 84/85.
Iv got an early 84 made in 1977 so very early and that gun just runs. One of my most prized pistols I love it. The round trigger guard on the old ones is just classic.
I've got an 84bb and a 92fs. Both are EXCELLENT. Since I don't have large hands, though, the 84bb is easier for me to handle when operating one-handed. And as you mentioned softer shooting since it's .380. I'll bet the 85 is even more handy being slimmer. Might have to put one on the wish list although it'll not be at the top at the moment. Still have to find a nice Sig SP2022 to add to the collection, first. Thank you, Sootch!
Picked one of these up last fall for 185.00, oh my what a fantastic pistol. Very accurate and smooth shooting pistol.
70s 380 was the first gun I purchased and will be the last I will ever sell. I also purchased wood grips for it. They really slim down the grip. The black plastic grips with the thumb rest made the gun excessively wide. They should have made it a double stack. Disappears in the front pocket. Sweet shooter.
If I were to use a back up firearm and I haven't seen them all, this is good as it gets: long live Beretta!.
All of these are set for magazine disconnect. The disconnect itself is a little L-shaped wire. You can add one, or remove it. It only requires taking grips off, no further disassembly. Instructions are at Beretta forums.
I loved the 81. it was a smooth shooter and better than a 22. a nice house gun or garden gun.
Certainly one of the most beautiful handguns ever made.
That is my idea of a collectible. You might not get rich buying it, but you will NEVER regret owning it. Beautiful.
Thanks for reviewing these classic Berettas! I bought an 85BB on based on your review of its double stacked sister. LOVE IT! Half the price of the new 80X.
Thank you for the nice review.Always great pleasure to watch. I love the frame mounted safety Baretta models 👍👍
Thanks Emre! I appreciate it!
Absolutely!
I'm really looking forward to the new 80X, because I always wanted to find one of these used.
What a great design. Years ago I had a 92FS and really came to appreciate the Beretta design of pistols. I am old school and am drawn to the single stack versions. Thank you for covering such a model. Not everyone wants a "tactical" handgun with the most rounds possible. The single stacks harken back to a time when people weren't in as much of a hurry and quality was prized over quantity.
Underwood Ammo's 380 ACP +P 90gr. Xtreme Penetrator load has 288 ft. lbs. energy.
Great review. I have had my 85F since 1990, and it indeed is "A work of art" as well as being tough, robust and very reliable. A couple of interesting facts: Many 80 models, like mine, have extremely durable bores due to chromium plating. You can also have the magazine disconnect easily removed or installed, depending on your preference (Consult your owners manual). I did a reverse Bond and traded in my Walther PPK for the Beretta. The Walther is beautiful and (007) cool to own, but in my experience, it just will not hold up to many range practice rounds like the Beretta.
Been thinking of hunting down an older cheetah for awhile. Definitely eyeing the 80x, but I like the lines of the older models
I’m hoping they release an 80x “classic” without the rail, it would be cool to own an older cheetah though.
This was a fantastic video Don. And this is coming from a guy who is a massive Beretta collector, great job!
I have this model bought it back in 1984 superior firearm like all the other Beretta’s I own👍
I own a Model 81 32acp , love the Beretta Cheetah , Tony Montana Scarface Gun!!!
My 84FS is one of my favorite handguns and is pure elegance. I think it should’ve been the Bond gun over the Walther PPK.
The 84FS is basically the same gun as a Browning BDA. Same double stack, etc. It was even manufactured by Beretta. The only real difference is it doesn't have the open slide, which makes it slightly heavier. I got rid of mine for an 85FS single stack.
Agree. It's prettier for sure (prettiest of all, even?), and doesn't jam all the time.
My dad had a Browning BD380, which is a cosmetic redesign of the model 84 beretta (if I remember right.) Double stack 13 round magazine. It's a beautiful gun and tremendous fun to shoot.
I really like my Beretta model 85BB! Mine is a bit snappy and I tend to get a little safety bite on the web of my hand/thumb… Great video, Sootch! 💪🏻
Nice! I just picked up an 85FS. Really a nice shooting little gun. But I'm quickly realizing I need to get a 70S--especially now since it's Ellie's gun in "The Last of Us." Thanks for excellent perspectives as usual, Sootch!
Tisas makes a beautiful copy of these Berettas. Can be had for 1/2 the price...
Such a cool and beautiful pistol. Need to add one of these to my collection.
I have a Beretta 85bb Surplus gun and it's a great shooter 👌 👍. When the new Beretta 80X is released I'm going to be looking to buy #1. I'm a BIG fan of Beretta anyway.
I also have a love for this line of pistols, but I never saw the point in the single stack variants.
I suppose if you had small hands, you would think differently.
I wish .32acp was cheap and easy to find, because the 81 is so fun to magdump.
I remember my Dad buying one in the 80s, when that "Night Stalker" serial killer was running around Southern CA. Thought it was so cool. It had the wood grips and he would carry it in the small of his back. Lol
Can’t wait for the 80X
.380 and 10mm are becoming more and more popular again. I have been seeing ammo prices equalize and become more available as 9mm for them. Except for .45acp, it's still high and harder to find. Shame, it's my favorite caliber to shoot.
Thank you for a very nice video about a very nice pistol. The cheetah are as relevant as they have always been. they are fundamentally easier to control than the micro 380. They can even be used to teach how to shoot to a new shooter. The 80X is also a long expected upgrade of these models. It is possible that the Security-380 will be a real competitor. Time will tell.
I got the same email from Atlantic Firearms and immediately bought one in excellent condition; I also have the Model 84 which I actually like better as I have big hands and it’s a lot more comfortable to shoot.
The BB versions are some of the prettiest of the Cheetah models IMO.
The 80X is my next purchase, please do a review on one when you get one, thanks in advance..
with this resurgence of 380, I predict a 365XL and a GX4 XL Yes, I know there's already a 365 in 380. But these slightly longer barrels will give a velocity boost to marginally effective 380 ammo, and make the good 380 ammo outstanding. S&W had the right idea with the 380EZ, making it a locked breach hammer-fire. Such mild recoil.
I have an 84 BB, great pistol, beautiful shape. I agree, they're elegant.
I have 2 PC Beretta 85 Cheetah. First for me and next for my wife. This pistol is super carry weapon. Beretta 85 Cheetah ,Beretta 92 FS, CZ 75 and Sig Sauer P226 are my darlings. This video is super. Sootch00 thank ! Thomas from Czech Republic.
Have one in 32acp. Great little gun. Have Browning BDA in 380 acp. Love them.
15:40 "wow" is exactly what I said...good shootin out of a short barrel!
Got 2 Mod84 a BB and an FS. Love them , easy to handle reasonably accurate
Nice gun I think I will get one if I can find it anyway you should review bul armory 1911 ultra 9mm
...bought one from a dealer friend this year. I think mine was an Italian customs officers gun. Mine is mint. They are pretty large and chunky for a 380, but I love the classic style.
I have the 85 FS in nickel with the wood grips, it's an absolute jewel. I bought it used for $625 and I think I did well, because it didn't have a mark on it. I find it a little snappy with a pretty stiff slide spring, but it shoots quite accurate. A beautiful well made gun. A collectible for sure.
The price of those have went up quite a bit probably because the new model is going to be released.
Love this gun!
Ok, I love guy, and his reviews have gotten me to buy acouple of guns. However, after years of following him, I have never seen him talk about a firearm that he didn't like. Never seen a negative review.
i put the factory walnut grips on my surplus 84 and 85. both look great
I have two 81 BBs. One had a tight chamber and hollow point ammo would engrave into the rifling on it. It was OK with European ball. I found a barrel for an 84 BB and converted it to .380. Both calibers use the same recoil spring in the older guns, though that's not true of the FS versions where the .32 uses a lighter spring for lightly-loaded American ammo.
I think Beretta needs to bring back the Model 86. It would be quite popular among people who have trouble racking slides. There is the Girsan MC 14T which is an updated double stack version with a tip-up barrel like the 86.
1cm too short barrel to be legal in the soviet EU's slave state of Finland for anyone not a registered collector.
I have the 84 model with suppressor adapter and it is legal because it is just a bit longer.
I recently bought an 85F for 450.00 and it is in like new condition. It is a beautiful piece and it goes well with my other Berettas. My 85F has a decocker, which I really like.
Where did you buy it?
I am in tx and can't find one
16:19 love it! Thank you for your knowledge and information this is one beautiful piece!
Just a sweet gun and ifninwas ever going to carry an.380 this would be the one!
Put a set of LOK grips on the 84 and the difference between that and the 85 diminishes greatly. I put LOK's on both of mine and love it.
My gramps had one, not sure this exact one as I'm not familiar with Beretta but it was a .380 this size. It shot great from what I remember
Beretta 85bb adopted in Italy by the "Guardia di Finanza". You can see G.F. under the serial number.
Nice gun! I got one of those single stacked Beretta's from the cold war days, great history to these fire arms!
I have the 85. I really like it for my big hand. It is an eloquent pistol.
I had a milsurp 92S, regret getting rid of it. Currently have a 92FS. In my opinion I like the 92S more. I may have to get a Cheetah
The most beautiful pistol in world
After pk
Luger
I bought my 85bb in 2020 and paid extra for "best of 10". Mine was made in 2019 and showed little to no use. I added wood grips and love it. It's my EDC. I found it a little snappy when firing, compared to the M9 I'm familiar with. I had to black out the white in the sights as the rear mark was off to the left. Overall I love it
you think a Beretta 85BB was made in 2019, I don’t think so.
The 85BB was made in the early 80’s
Great gun and review. And in keeping with your just trying to do your part, I already got one of those. But dang it I forgot to get the holster and extra mags!
IMO, .380's are at their best in a pistol of this size. I just wish Beretta still imported them into the U.S. market.
Beretta is making the 80x look it up! Im really excited. Its a new family in the cheetah line.
@Ivan Nieves Oh I know. The 80X just doesn't have the same esthetics of the 84. I think there is still a market for blued handguns without ugly dust cover rails.
At the risk of sounding like a heretic, have you looked at the Tisas Fatih 380? It's essentially a Beretta 84BB made in Turkey under license from Beretta. The quality is exceptional as Tisas is a highly-regarded military firearms manufacturer that uses Haas automation equipment in their factory. I bought one two years ago and am very happy with it. I bought mine new from Classic Firearms for under $400 and they are also avaiable from PSA. The 13 round magazines (same mags as the Beretta and Browning BDA) are available from Mec-Gar's website. If you'd like to compare it with your Beretta 84 and 85, I'll be happy to ship it to an FFL near you.
recently shot mine for the first time, put 250 rounds through it first time and no issues! gonna get new mags for it and run another 250 through it while its dirty, she runs good 😅
Nice option for compact concealed carry!
Didn’t you already do this gun before?
I have one (double stack). I bought it new 5 yers ago. I rarely shoot it, but it’s beautiful so I’m keeping it. I’d like a nickel single stack version. Gorgeous. You’re right: its a work of art.
Love my 84fs cheetah. Thanks.
I love these little guys!
I can't recommend LOK Grips highly enough for the original Cheetah. I've had the original plastic, checkered, and smooth wood factory grips and there's just no comparison. Get the checkered LOKs, better than the crosscut here. And no, I have no affiliation beyond satisfied customer.
I bought a Bursa 380 Thunder because i have long wanted a Model 85 I could never find one at a price point I could afford. The open slide design goes back to the Beretta 1915 made for the Royal Italian Army use in W W I.
Atlantic firearms selling for 299
@@Excalibur01 By the time I could look they were all gone.
Great video, big 84,85 fan I saw your slide tape on the lcp. Talon has those in granulate for the cheetah if you're interested sir
You have good taste in guns. I’d take 1 Clasic over 5 of the newer guns any day. Same with the S&W revolvers .thx
I've got the 84 and the 86. I guess I need to fill the hole especially since the 86 is an unfired safe queen.
Love Berrettas but can’t wait for the cz 380s
I had the 85FS, I disagree a little on the recoil.
I find it a little abrupt and after few shots was living marks on my hand. But the gun is super accurate as you said. I love the new 80x series I can't wait to try one 👋
Excellent Review. I am in search of a 70S and 85BB.
I already have two from sportsman's.
Plan to buy one a month until they run out.
Also looking to mod one of them with a new finish and tritium sights.
Maybe also see if I can have the mag-well beveled a bit.
They don't make them like this anymore.
My top 10 best pistols list:
1 - Beretta 92FS
2 - SIG P226
3 - Glock 17
4 - IWI Jericho 941
5 - HK P2000
6 - CZ 75
7 - Ruger P95
8 - Browning HP-35
9 - Springfield XD
10 - Taurus PT-92.
Someone here agrees with me?
Straight up AC⚡DC guitar riff 😮
my opinion the worst thing about the 85bb is if you don't get a sure and solid purchase on the slide serrations it WILL try to shred your fingers I do all of the slide manipulation by the front cuts instead
Great review, nice looking gun.
I love my 84BB!!
Would like to have seen a side by side of the grips from the back. 84 vs 85.
Love the fixed/ removable barrel. I'm jellos.
the reason there popular surplus is they are at a good price the new cheetah models are the price of a 92 the 80X is the performance version od the 84fs and cheapest is 750
Sootch00 you've got a great collection of Beretta's including your mouse guns along with your FDE M9A4 and R92X I saw the other day , this Mid size 380 85BB the older brother to your Cheetah 80X sure adds to your Super Nice Collection , Outstanding. I love the style of Beretta's best shooting pistols I've ever shot. This 85BB IS MENT !
Definitely on my list.
I wonder if there ever will be interest in surplus plastic pistols coming over from overseas to the US. They don't evoke any special emotion like these and I doubt they could be sold for any less than used plastic guns already here. Who knows?
Best 32 acp ever
