    Fuji menu system is more on customization, it took me awhile to be familiarize with the settings, once you do everything will make sense. Both cameras have different iso , sony is clearly brighter at least based in this video, I think all cameras are different. Great comparison, you make high quality videos too. You can buy a6400 + sigma 56 f1.4 + sigma 16mm f1.4 for the amount of xt3 with kit lens.

      Yeah that would be a powerful combo package! especially for the money, The only thing that I would struggle with would be the lack of any image stabilization, with the 6400 not having IBIS and I don't think either of those sigma lenses have Image stabilization? But you still could get some awesome footage with those.

      The rolling shutter was so bad on a6300 almost unusable for panning. Xt3 is so much better. Sigma is very sharp and equal to Fuji lens in my humble opinion. But there is a catch. It lacks microcontrast due to high optical element count .

    Awesome video! Im going with the XT3 over a6400 and the biggest reason is that it can record 10bit internally and upto 400Mbps bitrates. Im not saying everyone needs those specs but for someone who might do a lot of color grading the option is there if needed. You can always pick a lower bitrate if you need smaller files. But the option of 10bit color and high bitrates beats the a6400 for me. And via hdmi it can record 10bit 4:4:2 which is not an option on the a6400. Infact XT3 is the only APS-C camera in the market that can record 10 bit internally after GH5(micro 4/3rd).

    Mmm, the x-t3 just just got more lattitude when editing and the video settings are more customizable. The dials are just a must for editing video, easy to change, pity about a lack of IS, but the evf being so darn good on the x-t3 just makes the x-t3 100% for a hybrid shooter. • @brianbassett5468

      B-roll footage and the term can mean and be used in many different ways.. However your main footage "A" and B roll can even be shot on the same camera. B Roll for many RUclipsrs and or film makers can allot of the time be shot on a better camera for a better quality. Regardless you can shoot your b roll on any camera 📷 cell phone, high end cinema camera etc.. For my type of film making I primarily use a smaller 2nd camera to shoot my b roll.. B roll is any footage shot that is kind of secondary to your main footage, b roll helps you tell your story better.. Example of B roll in this video was when I was talking about the fujifilm camera out in the snow and trees and as I was talking about the controls of the camera I put some B-roll over the top of the main footage to show the details of the camera controls up close.

      I know what you mean! There are so many good options and there all better in different ways. Yes this was all shot hand held. The image stabilization in that kit lens works fairly well, plus shooting in 60fps or higher and adding warp stabilizer in post works pretty good. In the shots that there is no camera movement at all I put them on a tripod in like 2 clips.

    XT3 is 10bit internal so you can totally grade it hard in post without getting banding and other artifacts. The Sony is only 8bit so it should not be graded more than a tiny bit, and the Sony has heavy rolling shutter in pans and it cannot really be shot in LOG because the 8 bit doesn't have enough info to be graded. The Sony 4k detail is WAY better and this is what people buys the camera for, not 1080p (which at 120p is bad for BOTH). The night shots are WAY better on the Sony with Fuji mushy details on the trees for example where the Sony is a lot more detailed. I think one of the major differences between the two cameras that never got mentioned here is that the Fuji can film in 10 bit internally whereas the Sony can only do 8 bit. This is why the Sony footage starts falling apart sooner when you're pushing a heavy grade. I agree with you that the Sony looks sharper at 4k, but as a matter of personal preference I like the slightly soft look of the Fuji because it's a bit more cinematic in feel.

    • @brianbassett5468
      @brianbassett5468  4 года назад

      Yes I completely agree with you on everything you mentioned. In my mind I was aware of the higher bit rate of the fuji and forgot to mention it. There is just something about the Xt3 that I really like the look, both really are great cameras and I also feel my inexperience with Sony picture profiles didn't do the a6400 justice, a more experienced Sony shooter could have gotten a better look, but it was kinda fair because I had never even picked up a Fuji camera before this video.

    • @SDSakuragi
      @SDSakuragi 4 года назад +2

      @ant billionz If you're not using an ND filter and polarizer while filming outside, even stopping down won't help, regardless of camera brand. The Fuji was never meant to be an ideal vlogging camera, especially without a flip around LCD. But as for looking like smog, no modern camera from a reputable manufacture in the $1000+ price range is that bad. If you're having problems it's most likely because your exposure settings are incorrect. You're either on auto ISO or auto SS and not properly lighting the shot. I can't stress this enough, but with modern cameras, 99.9% of what ruins a shot is not what's inside the camera, but what's behind it.

    • @shaolin95
      @shaolin95 4 года назад

      lol more cinematic...gotta love the excuses Fuji fanboys come up with. The noise and fake iso ratings are also very cinematic...

    • @SDSakuragi
      @SDSakuragi 4 года назад

      @@shaolin95 When things are overly sharp in a image, it get the "digital" look a lot of people talk about. When grading, a lot of colorists will actually turn down midtone detail in order to add a bit of softness to the image. This is also the same reason why in portraiture, photographers use fast lens, so that then the eye is in focus, the skin is ever so slightly softened. And yes, people actually pay money to add "film grain" into their projects, not saying I agree with them, but there was definitely a few shots in the Mandalorian where you can tell they added or kept noise in in order to simulate grain.

    • @SDSakuragi
      @SDSakuragi 4 года назад

      @ant billionz Now I know you're full of it. Neither of these can even shoot RAW video, they are nowhere near cinema camera quality. For that, you'd need something like the S1H or 1DX III.

    It could've been better if you compared the price equally, the a6400 is $900 body only and the xt-3 is $1100 body only, rather than comparing it with fuji and its kit lens ($1700) and the sony a6400 with a zeiss lens ($2000). There are people who watch comparisons like this who considers budget and wants to see if the added $200 will be worth it for them. But all in all, an informative video.

    I have to ask about xt3 files. I got started with the A6000 in 2014 for a trip to India and picked up the A6500 used ($600) for larger buffer and video a year ago. Mostly animals and travel..However, playing with video, got into color correction..Davinci color space transform made slog less scary..but the the thought of files with less stretched data is pulling me.

    A few things with this review, the a6400 can shoot in 4k 30fps, so I'm not sure why the 4k 24fps mode was used. Also the layout of this video was odd.. lowlight footage for the Xt3 was shown and a conclusion about it being better than the a6400 was reached before low light of the a6400 was even shown. These two points display a pretty strong reviewer bias toward the Xt3.
    Lots of features were left out as well, so this review could use some work. Just offering some constructive criticism.

    I've watched this video sooo many times. This might be the hardest decision I ever had to make... the 4k looks sharper in the a6400 but the xt3 looks better elsewhere. I'll most mostly be shooting music videos. I'm stuck....

    • @brianbassett5468

      Yes I agree the fuji is a much more cinematic soft feel with a film like color profile and the sony a6400 has a more true to life feel, very beautiful and sharp in 4k it really comes down to the look your going for.. The xt3 feels more like a movie and the a6400 feels like a high quality travel show type feel.. Both are great just depends on the mood your trying to create with the video.

    Hi what's the difference between a b roll and an a roll camera?

    • @brianbassett5468
      @brianbassett5468  4 года назад

      Totally depends on what type of video your making, if you are making a more cinematic video like this one then the b-roll would be the shots that are of the trees, river, night shots etc. And the A roll is me talking. I mostly shoot B roll at 60fps or 120fps so both the Fuji xt3 and sony a6400 are great for that.. However b-roll can be shot with any camera/phone/go pro etc at any frame rate B roll is any supplemental footage that is used to help tell the story or explain things better visually.
