The thing is that most camera reviews are on RUclips and those are pretty much the only people that really vlog a lot. So it seems like a whole lot of people complain about it, but in reality there are so many other photographers and videographers that enjoy Fujifilm‘s screen design and I really hope they don‘t change it just because of vloggers complaining.
For real. I actually even get a bit annoyed that people spend time discussing vlogging potential in a review of a premium camera. Vlogging is at about the very bottom of the photography/videography totem pole in a close race with bathroom-mirror-selfies and sending pictures of your mole to your doctor.
I‘ve always preferred Fujifilm‘s screen. Vlogging is literally the only capability the screen lacks while doing great in every other situation, in landscape AND portrait orientation. I think the reason so „many“ people complain about no flip screen is because we‘re on RUclips and those people making reviews are pretty much the only people that vlog. But the truth is that the majority of photographers and videographers don‘t film themselves at all. I really hope Fujifilm keeps their screen design, no matter how many RUclipsrs complain about it, because there are so many other people that (I bet) really enjoy their display the way it is.
Joseph A you're confusing selfies with monitoring during vlogging, and there's really no excuse since it's laid out redundantly in this review here which you presumably just watched, and, well, everywhere else online as well
oh man, YOU'RE SO CLEVER. That's exactly what Tony Northrup is doing in this video... taking selfies, right? What about protecting the LCD from scratches?!?! Is that also taking selfies in your "smart" opinion?!?!?? My god!!!!!
A flip screen is not only for selfies. I use it all the time when I do product photography. I get in front of the camera and position the product while looking the live view on my screen.
@@jeezygarceezy Can you explain what this is? There's a way to send a feed of what the camera sees to a different device's screen? How does that work? 🤔
I don’t vlog, but one of the reasons I got an a6100 for the flip-up screen was to be able to frame myself when filming guitar videos. So yeah, it’s useful for a lot more than taking selfies.
When I bought a6400 I did look into X-T3 and Canon but I went with a6400 because it had no limit 4K recording, even at 4K all the AF works, flip-up screen, great AF, etc. It had a lot of things that I wanted and it was not that expensive. Since I came from G8 so I really miss IBIS in G8 but I love my a6400.
Was this really a versus video? Seems more like the first 10 minutes are 100% paid for by Sony and the remainder has a few brief comparisons between the two. With some look at all my camera clips thrown in.
Yes, this is a versus video about a just-released camera compared to a very well-known and reviewed alternative. It would make no sense to spend the same amount of time on the details of both. It’s an interesting concept that a mixture of positive and negative comments about the 6600 must be “100% paid for by Sony”, whereas a long list of specific differences (many favorable to the XT3) is “a few brief comparisons”.
The Fuji X T3 is ART in every way. There are lots of native high quality OIS lenses for it, that won't tire you out before the end of a shoot, so no in body stabilization is not an issue. The battery inadequacy is an issue, if you shoot a lot of 4K, but not so much for the still shooter. The EVF alone is one of the best out there and Fuji support is second to none.
Fujifilm is for creating Art, Sony is...well, just a boxy camera, huge friggin expensive Lenses, and by no means the same quality bodies, handling, like a X-T3.
I grew up using cameras with no stabilization. When stabilized lenses came along, it was liberating. Yes, back in the old days, 1/30th of a second was too slow. To get sharp images, you needed to carry tripods or flashes or simply avoid taking images inside. Think of the reciprocal rule as a limitation on unstabilized camera systems, not some general rule for all photography. Having an entire new area of the exposure triangle opened up gives you many new creative opportunities. Personally, I prefer having one IBIS system in the camera body and then be able to use unstabilized lenses. Also, I strongly suspect that the combination of lens and body stabilization is even better.
I've been wavering between picking up a XT-3 or an A7iii for a while. I love the Fuji lenses, ergonomics and overall joy of using the camera. The A7iii is a powerhouse but an expensive eco-system to buy into past the body. Still going back and forth but Sony a6600 doesn't change that for me. If I wanted crop I'd go for the X-T3, If I wanted full frame I'd go for the A7iii.
Thanks to the huge discount I was able to buy x-t3 finally (sold a6400). Felt like I had x-t3 all my life, ergonomics is awesome and just incompatible with Sony aps-c. Image rendition are simply brilliant and 10 bit video makes huge difference, very easy to render and very forgiving (especially when you don't have a chance to create a good lighting). Not to hate Sony, but their aps-c line felt more like an elaborate expensive toy, rather than proper camera. Fuji on the other hand feels like completely competent pro-body, with functions that makes so much sense that I can't understand how I lived without it before, lol

Was debating with the xt3 and a6600 then I realized how expensive fujifilm lenses are. Made my choice easier. Also if your spending that much on a single lens mine as well purchase a full frame
I’m an a7iii owner with a6400’s as my back ups. For me, the a6400 is a better value purchase over the 6600 as you’re pretty much only getting sensor stabilisation (which isn’t really all that great - the extra battery life doesn’t bother me) as an extra. If they had gave it 2 card slots then I’d say the difference would have definitely been worth it.
I just got the Fujifilm X-T3 with 18-55 lens for vlog, it works pretty well. And for HDR images, I am still using the Nikon D850+three primary lenses+85mm 1.4. For stability of XT3, I choose Zhiyun Crane 3 to neutralize the lost.
Personally, I think the a6600 is a difficult sell when used a7III's on the secondary market (not necessarily secondhand retail) are regularly seen for $1,500-1,600. With the exception of the screen record time limit, and maybe real time tracking, I cannot think of anything the a6600 brings to the table that its bigger brother fails to provide, its advantages notwithstanding.
This was perhaps the most useful review, especially for those on the fence between the Sony and the Fuji. I ended up going with the Sony 6600. I can see the attraction of the Fuji, especially at it reminds of cameras of old, like my Nikon FE2 for which I have such fond memories and learned on, but I time waits for no one and I felt Sony the modern APC that should be more camera than I'd ever need and is smaller than the Fuji, a major reason for having an APC.
Look at the Canon EOS RP for vlogging because it has full frame? Not when you use 4K with a 1.6 x crop. What's more you lose access to dual-pixel AF. Of course, you can stick to 1080 and use the full frame, but it still suffers on video quality compared to some of the competition, as it doesn't do full video frame readout. Of course it doesn't have IBIS either.
It’s hard to compare cameras without talking about the lenses available. It’d be interesting to see how the E 16-55mm f2.8 compares to Fuji’s XF equivalent. Even so, the XF 16mm f1.4 alone keeps me in the Fuji camp; that lens is pure magic.
Well, I guess I'm not gonna switch to X-T3 soon. I'm 50\50 photo video shooter, and after more than a year of savings I initially bought Sony a6400, which is a great camera, but due to some tech issues and really annoying sensor dust attraction, it wasn't suitable for me. I was on hurry with my purchase, because at the time I needed to film an interview with elderly person, which had a lot of health issues, and could probably, you know, die. And due to possibility of that interview be the final moments of the life of that person, I wanted to film that in rather good quality etc. When a6400 launched it was ridiculously overpriced in my region, about $200 more compare to officially announced prices. The initial price was roughly 1/3 of yearly wage of our family, so it was pretty substantial purchase for me. Weeks after I filmed that interview Sony announces a huge discount on a6400, which was about $158. Some stores claimed that it's gonna be until November 3rd, but discount is still there. So, just like that, even if I try to sell my a6400, I lose a pretty noticeable amount of money, and I'll still need a lot in order to buy X-T3 (kinda afraid to buy used, due to scams and frauds, which is sadly pretty common in my region). So there's that. Sorry for whining, but I feel pretty much crushed and depressed because all of that, and just wanna share my story.

I've learned that you can't listen to youtubers if you really want to make an informed decision. Best thing to do is to borrow or rent the equipment. I've used Sony for over a decade and after I tried the Xt-2, I KNEW Sony was entirely wrong for me personally (on so many levels that it's a waste of youtube space to describe). But I didn't hear what I needed to hear from any of the youtubers I've watched.
it's true. but those kind of review videos are usefull for some people who are beginner or who can't try those cameras because not shop selling the cameras around (in my case). That's why i like advices, point of views, comparaisons between cameras to see pros and cons that we will not see before buying. For exemple the Q button on X-H1, X-t30 etc... Still looking for my future camera lol a graal quest it seems...the problem is to find honest reviews(not people who are paid by a brand to destroy another brand camera image or to push the sells of the brand the youtuber is paid for... By the way i like your review..always funny...and i know that you think everyone should be able to choose himself...it's true when u are enough good or have notions in photography but for someone who want to buy a first hybrid and want the best for his need and for the price he can pay it's good to have advices...
Great to see, at a much more recent vantage point, the Fuji XT4 rectified most of the criticisms you leveled at the XT3. I debated buying the a6600 vs the XT4 and think the XT4 is all around better.
Quick question, how does the X-H1 compare to newer cameras in 2019? Due to the price drop, is it a worth purchase for the IBIS for stills in exchange for the worse auto focus over the X-T3?
I'm a Sony shooter but I'm disappointed with the A6600's sensor. For a "flagship" it should have a newer sensor instead of the same old technology from the A6000.
It just looks bad because Sony doesn't know how to make it look better out of the box... ;). I switched to Fuji and zero regrets. Fuji is a pleasure to use and doesn't waste time in post like Sony.
I was tempted by this camera, but the low res viewfinder, slow single card slot with small buffer and poor image stabilisation, is just too much bad against the excellent autofocus, shame.
Great video. We just got the xt3 and 6 lenses but love our Sony’s. For video the Sony has so much rolling shutters hand held that it’s better off to get the jittery XT3 which is more natural and easier to fight in post.
Post production is the main reason I got rid of most of my sony equipment. I find that when I use the Fuji, there is little (comparatively) that needs to be done, while Sony files don't look right to my eye and almost always require work.
So how did we take all those great pictures back in the 70's, 80's, 90's when there was no IBIS? I took lots of great photos with my AE-1, and they weren't shaky.
It's naturally totally possible to take sharp images without ibis, but ibis is nonetheless a powerful tool to have available that can potentially open up new shooting possibilities.
No it's absolutely necessary, your some kind of heretic who clearly knows nothing. Ibis is so essential that photographs taken without it are completely blank. No one can possibly take a 1/125th second shot without massive blur due to shakes and shutter shock. It's madness to proceed without ibis. Cameras without it should be binned.
It's yet another device that CAN negate the necessity to know what you're doing. But, if you know what you're doing, it's not a "deal breaker" for photographers.
What in particular bothers you about Fuji's mobile app? I have an x-t2 and the mobile app works very well imho. I do not really have anything to complain about: you can transfer full jpeg's or 3mp mobile versions perfect for sharing. You can control the camera remotely, browse photos and the app is maintained and updated regularly by fuji.
I love it when it works but it's pretty finicky for no reason sometimes. Alot of times it just refuses to connect. Others it connects quickly and works fine. It's not something you can 100% count on.
We are Pro Photographers (Nikon& Sony), but for travel and Holidays we only use Fuji XT20 & 30 and we only shoot in jpeg. The Fuji combination of low weight/size and image quality is just unbeatable.
aaargh so much concerns about vlogging and evaluating cameras for their vlogging-ness abilities. it's such a niche market and who is doing it knows well what to look out for based on some pictures of the camera.
It's definitely not a "niche" market, and vloggers are an audience both cameras actively marketed to. But you, as a non vlogger, can simply ignore that part of the video... that's much easier than me leaving it out of the video and ignoring the needs of potential buyers who might at some point use the camera to record themselves.
@@TonyAndChelsea No one says you have to leave it out... at least I don't think so. But you're wrong about it being anything but a small segment of the advanced camera market. The issue that I have with many reviewers is not that they discuss vlogging potential of a camera, but the amount of emphasis they give to those features and the negative marks they give cameras that don't cater to vloggers. I also think that being a video user (as a career), you tend to revolve around other videographers (it's only logical), and given that youtube carries so much weight these days, the few reviewers, who are vloggers by necessity, skew the feedback that manufacturers get... I'm glad fuji isn't jumping on that bandwagon.
@@johnkevin7992 Indeed and Fuji got a huge thumbs down from me. Bought a Panasonic s1r to replace the rest of my Sony FF equipment. It's their loss. I also sold my fuji xt3 and went back to xt2. It has a better low light performance/less shot noise and the AF on the xt3 was way over-hyped.
the digital mic from Sony becomes an analogue one on the a6600. Only the A7r4 supports the fully digital signal chain so far, afaik. I wonder why they didn't upgrade the hot-shoe for the a6600 to support digital audio, but then I again I also don't understand why it doesn't have UHS-II or a usb-c port ;)
For the most part, flip up screen does the job. Except vlogging. And so, SONY has provided a very small converter kinda thing to shift the hotshoe mount to the side which gets the job done.
Great review. I used to be a Fuji user with Fuji XT-2 camera and some lens, but when I started my youtube channel and need to create more videos I found a fully-articulated screen is what I needed most. And then I switched to Lumix G9 camera. But I still think fuji's color science is better than Lumix.
Does anyone else use a rangefinder camera while being left-eyed? There are dozens of us; dozens! I feel like it keeps my nose out of my hand's way when using back controls.
I don't have an answer to your question, but I am both left-eye dominant, and my right eye has much worse distant vision. I did recently tried shooting right-eyed, however, for the first time, and I was surprised that I could see the EVF fine. It felt weird, like reversing fork and knife hands, but the closeness rendered my vision problems moot. I seemed to be able to make the adjustment. (note: I'm guessing an optical view finder would give the same results as the EVF I used.)
@@dash3dot Why is it bad? You can chose between similarly priced cameras and have to chose between better picture quality in low light and better portability. Other than that the differences are often niche. There are cheaper APS-C and M43 cameras out there but they often lack featres and or overall picture quality compared to FF. Its just that the premium APS-C are nowadays comparable in pice and quality to FF (in good conditions)
6400 is bargain for its price! and a little flash is a very handy as fill or bounce must have for me even though i have many on camera flashes but NOT always with me , ill pay an extra to have it just in case shame its not offered/included in 6600 , the more light the better
8:18 The shotgun mic ABOVE the lens vs BESIDE the lens makes no difference. Unless you mount it IN FRONT of the lens, it's still not lined up. For optimal audio, you need to aim it no matter WHERE it's mounted. If it's above the lens, you aim it down at the subjects mouth... if it's to the side, you aim it sideways at the subject's mouth... no difference whatsoever. -Signed, an audio engineer/producer.
I just completed my own quick still-image assessment of the Sony A6400 (slightly older version of the A6600 so slightly less image quality in the processor) and the Fuji XT3 using Imaging Resource's Comparometer. In their lab settings all you need to do is scroll down to a test image, set the ISO (in this case 3200 because I want good low-light image quality) then compare the two camera images enlarged considerably side by side. Remember, given today's technology we are looking at only slight, but still noticeable differences between cameras within their respective class types (in this case ASPC). Although the difference is slight I would comfortably rate the Sony A6400 image as good as to slightly better (perhaps up to 10%) than the Fuji XT3. Given that the A6400 image is slightly better and the Sony A6600 has the best auto focus in the business along with IBIS that the Fuji does not have, I would overall bet that the core quality of Sony A6600 images will be consistently better than the Fuji XT3. There is no comparison between an objective, lab-based image quality assessment with parameters carefully controlled for and someone's subjective measurement, although subjective assessments can point out a great deal in terms of other factors. So, if one is looking for the camera that will consistently take the better picture, all other factors controlled for, I would hands down bet on the Sony a6600 over the Fuji XT3. Again, see for yourself by going to the Imaging Resource's website-then click on the top of the home page for 1. camera reviews, then 2. compare images: Comparometer.
When it comes to consumer-level cinema quality 4K video, Fujifilm X-T3 is the king! And in addition, it also produces very natural and rich-full image, while all the Sony cameras have a little tendency to produce little flat image. Of corse, Sony is the best choice if you like flat image.
I upgraded from the A6000 but got the A6400. Has most of the features of the A6600 the main thing missing is IBIS. I am sure IBIS is a good feature but I do not have an issue with camera shake even with the Sigma 16mm F1.4. I did not think it was worth another $500. I thought about going full frame but the lens prices put me off. I would have needed to buy a body and a good 24-70 and did not want to spend that much. I may go full frame at some point but not ready to do that yet. May wait for the A7iv, and buy an A7iii once the price drops.
These are actually the two cameras I'm trying to choose from. I favor Fujifilm's control dials and lens selection, for the Sony a6600 I like the better battery life, better grip, and the fact that it has image stabilization. I would think the image quality of the two cameras would be similar. Currently B@H and Adorama are waiting for another shipment of the a6600's. I know Best Buy has it, but I'm going to sell some gear so I can get a store credit. In the back of my mind I'm considering the Fujifilm X-T4 but not sure if it's worth the higher price.
I'd personally love to get a Canon EOS R, but the 6600 doens't have the 30 minute recording limit. I'd rather not buy an additional monitor to exceed that limit.
I'm staying with APS-C. I own and love my A6500. I shoot landscapes primarily. The main advantage of full frame, unless I go to the resolution monster A7R4, is better bokeh. And better bokeh costs lots of money for quality high speed glass. I don't need bokeh. Plus FF camera and lens weigh a lot more - and cost a LOT more. I'm very much hoping Sony's next APS-C camera will be the A6700-R with 40 meg plus sensor, higher resolution EVF and dual card slots. Cheers!
Have you ever tried a full frame camera and made a comparison? In my experience APSC will be way less sharp since there is almost no glass that will really give you 24 MP on APSC, they're just not sharp enough, that's why your 6700R concept would suck massively because no piece of glass is ever gonna resolve this highly, while on a full frame sensor the glass doesn't have to be half as good to resolve more megapixels
XT3 for me all day long, its more of an artists camera if that makes sense, magical pictures roll off of it rather than technically perfect, sharp and flat. Sonys are great tools, but the images from them always require post processing to make them into something, the fuji's files hardly need touching. The fuji has an organic quality no other digital mirrorless can do.
I have a Sony a6300 ... wondering if it's really worth going to the a6600? Or should I continue to wait and see what comes out next? I have ALL crop sensor lens ( otherwise I'd go a7c) Thoughts anyone????????
In another video ~"are DSLRs" dead (or dying?) you mentioned that Fuji mirrorless weren't selling well & they were a prime candidate for discontinuing them... & a risk to buy into a system that might be going away. Did I understand that correctly? Do you think that is a factor to take into account?
so fed up with youtube reviewers pushing IBIS as a deal breaker.... it is absolutely not unless you mainly shoot video... and even then, you should still get a gimbal! 80% of the video is about the a6600... it isnt a comparison at all
Disagree. I have an XT3 but find I’m using my Osmo Pocket almost all of the time now for video. I didn’t know it at the time, but I’d say stabilisation is more important than anything else - including image quality. There nothing worse than shaky footage and a gimbal is real hassle and a big expense. Of course, photos are another matter.
Completely disagree depending on how you shoot- IBIS is just so uesefull for photos if you use it without a tripod which like 80% of APS-C user do. I have the a6500 and the combination of that camera and the Sigma 16mm f1.4 (no OSS) is just so good. I have frequently taken snapshots at night handheld. You can easily get tac sharp images going as low as 1/20 or even 1/5-1/10 of a second shutter speed letting you shoot a night handheld with ISO400

I love travelling to other places or just taking my camera with me while going somewhere else nearby. Maye just go to the city, or the next lake or into the mountains. I dont even own a tripod since photography is not the main purpose of my trips and it just hampers me down. Last weekend I was at big lake an hour drive from home and as always my camera was with me. My gear apart from food water etc was just the camera in a small bag, one zoom and said prime lense. There was a gorgeous sunset and blue hour. As we all know sunrise sunset and blue hour are probably the best conditions for shooting. Since I live in the northern hemisphere it can get dark early in winter. Last new years I was in Edinburgh and Scotland it was dark or semi-dark for pobably 18-20h per day. I plan to got to the far north in the summer and there will be sunset-like conditions for several hours a day.
What's your opinion about a selfie screen that flips down? It should not be that hard to produce a grip with a window-frame that let you see through for vlogging? And on top of this it is better to sometimes look a little bit down when talking to people. We do this all day long if we switch from looking to eyes and mouth during conversation.
Tony, when you compare lens options it would be great if you included the more mundane lenses like 35mm OSS/35mm WR, the 18-135mm options from each company, etc.
Nowadays when Tony holds cameras and stuff way close to the vlog camera, it feels like he's just trolling Camera Conspiracies... "Oh look! See how fast my Canon refocuses on my face!"
I’m strongly considering buying the Fujifilm XT4 because every single issue people complain about in the XT3 have been addressed, and for what I’ll be using it for, I think it may be better for me than the Sony Alpha a7iii.
If Fujiflim can develop a compact IBIS system and incorporate it into the X-T3's replacement without increasing the overall body size significantly then they will have a definite winner.
Ah the same old menu thing... Using Sony and Fuji side by side, I actually find Fuji menus more confusing. Latest version Sony menus are quite well organized
15:42 having used almost all of the brands over the years this is right on the money. Sony should spend some money, get a few different independents to formulate some options for a menu replacement, put them up on line in an interactive way for people to comment and vote on and release their cameras with one of them while maintaining the option for the others to be unofficially installed. They would slay their competition. But they won’t. An open source development for their camera firmware like what we have in Linux would astound them with the amount of love it would garner them.

So, lenses are more important than cameras at this point, but it's only given a quick mention at the end? I realize you're teasing a forthcoming video, but this is probably the biggest consideration between the two cameras. Sony's IBIS and obstructed flippy screen are fools gold... who can trust either for anything more than casual shooting? And really, isn't that when most people are using phones?
Fuji didn't aim @ vloggers at all I guess. Otherwise both great cameras. But I guess for the price of Sony apsc glass going a7III would be the better choice as you mentioned.
Thank goodness! Now if they would make a camera without video features or the flippy screen and drop the price by a few hundred bucks, that would be lovely.
Yeah the a6600 + 16-55 combo is great. However, the price of that lens is just ridiculous. I wish sigma or tamron would make affordable alternatives to that.
He didn't mention bitrate at all. The Fuji shoots 4k 400 mbs 10 bit. The Sony is at 4k 100 in 8 bit. That's a massive difference. If you plan to do any grading or color correction that makes the Fuji way better.
At 7:00 when you look above the camera, it's not disturbing, took me a while to notice that you didn't look straight into the lens, so that's the point, if you sometimes look up, people won't really notice at all. Still, side is preferred overall because of that microphone.
Trying to get back to photography after a long time. COVID days is the main reason. Had migrated to Fuji from a SONY SLR fan thanks to their superzoom X-S1 and a bad back. I really hope Fujifilm keeps their screen design, no matter how many RUclipsrs complain about it, because there are so many other people that (I bet) really enjoy their display the way it is.
untrue. this screen is for monitoring purpose when you dont want to bring a dedicated monitor along. it can be very convenient.
Yeah, agreed.
just use remote operation on your phone or ipad

Can you explain what this is? There's a way to send a feed of what the camera sees to a different device's screen? How does that work? 🤔
I don’t vlog, but one of the reasons I got an a6100 for the flip-up screen was to be able to frame myself when filming guitar videos. So yeah, it’s useful for a lot more than taking selfies.
When I bought a6400 I did look into X-T3 and Canon but I went with a6400 because it had no limit 4K recording, even at 4K all the AF works, flip-up screen, great AF, etc. It had a lot of things that
I wanted and it was not that expensive. Since I came from G8 so I really miss IBIS in G8 but I love my a6400.
Was this really a versus video?
Seems more like the first 10 minutes are 100% paid for by Sony and the remainder has a few brief comparisons between the two. With some look at all my camera clips thrown in.
+ 70% of time about sony.

Weirdo
The Fuji X T3 is ART in every way. There are lots of native high quality OIS lenses for it, that won't tire you out before the end of a shoot, so no in body stabilization is not an issue. The battery inadequacy is an issue, if you shoot a lot of 4K, but not so much for the still shooter. The EVF alone is one of the best out there and Fuji support is second to none.
Fuji's best lens the 16-55 have no OIS. So you end up with absolutely no stabilisation at all.
Fujifilm is for creating Art, Sony is...well, just a boxy camera, huge friggin expensive Lenses, and by no means the same quality bodies, handling, like a X-T3.
@@TVe200 You know the X-H1 has IBIS right?, It's a phenomenal camera for the money!
@@TVe200 who said that is a best Fuji lens?🤔
@@12scarz9 it is the best normal zoom. Most people take 80% of their pictures with a zoom in that range (equal 24-70 on full frame).
I don't think the 4:00 shot is blurry due to the lack of stabilization, I think it's blurry because Chelsea was moving.
And it’s actually good for 1/30th
I grew up using cameras with no stabilization. When stabilized lenses came along, it was liberating. Yes, back in the old days, 1/30th of a second was too slow. To get sharp images, you needed to carry tripods or flashes or simply avoid taking images inside. Think of the reciprocal rule as a limitation on unstabilized camera systems, not some general rule for all photography. Having an entire new area of the exposure triangle opened up gives you many new creative opportunities. Personally, I prefer having one IBIS system in the camera body and then be able to use unstabilized lenses. Also, I strongly suspect that the combination of lens and body stabilization is even better.
it seems like fuji was watching your review and came out with XT4, everything you mentioned is fixed in the new XT4

Tyler Barton portability
This was perhaps the most useful review, especially for those on the fence between the Sony and the Fuji. I ended up going with the Sony 6600. I can see the attraction of the Fuji, especially at it reminds of cameras of old, like my Nikon FE2 for which I have such fond memories and learned on, but I time waits for no one and I felt Sony the modern APC that should be more camera than I'd ever need and is smaller than the Fuji, a major reason for having an APC.
It depends on your hand size. Too small is not comfortable at all.
@@a6893_ its big enough comparing to gr3, and its much comfortable griping to fuji
This body and lens is a beast of a combo but it's too expensive. I'd rather buy a7iii and a tamron 28-75 2.8
Well, I just bought this camera (a6600) and the 28-75. Both are quite nice and very nice together
That's tough man good luck.

The Fuji reminds me of the “Fujica” aperture priority 35mm SLR I learned on. Very interested in these now.
Great to see, at a much more recent vantage point, the Fuji XT4 rectified most of the criticisms you leveled at the XT3. I debated buying the a6600 vs the XT4 and think the XT4 is all around better.
The (nearly) perfect vloggin' camera is Olympus OMD EM5 mark III. From a good source.
Quick question, how does the X-H1 compare to newer cameras in 2019? Due to the price drop, is it a worth purchase for the IBIS for stills in exchange for the worse auto focus over the X-T3?
Seems like an ad for sony..
No, you just have to look at the facts and see how Sony overtook all others in recent years when it's about cameras. Canon and Fuji fell asleep
For me, the biggest point was the size and quality of lenses. = Fuji was the clear winner. Just get some 20 buck spare batteries if thats a prob.
They do sell a battery pack that connects to camera. Dummy battery to a power bank. Been looking at it but is always sold out.
I really don't get his issue with the control wheels, they're really easy to use...
I'm a Sony shooter but I'm disappointed with the A6600's sensor. For a "flagship" it should have a newer sensor instead of the same old technology from the A6000.
It’s not the same sensor. It’s much newer but is still 24 megapixels.
IDE’s warm up to it if it was 999
And have a faster shutter speed
I find that when I use the Fuji, there is little (comparatively) that needs to be done, while Sony files don't look right to my eye and almost always require work.
just put 4k 60, and 10bit internally and its over! come on sony, i know you can do better!
Back in 2012 i spent 1300 on a dslr apsc with half or less capabilities than those two cameras. Still a good camera for stills.
I did that in 2007, went Full frame a couple of years later but my 40d was a very nice camera.
Yes..and here i am
I think it would have been worth mentioning the sale-stopping rolling shutter of the a6600 when used for video.
Oh good to know! Thanks for the heads up!
So how did we take all those great pictures back in the 70's, 80's, 90's when there was no IBIS? I took lots of great photos with my AE-1, and they weren't shaky.
Caffeine wasn't consumed as often back then?
@@TonyAndChelsea You are right, it's not a niche - it's a niche of a niche at most 0.01% of the camera world clientele.
@@klarion well this didn't age very well 😂😂
@@johnkevin7992 Indeed and Fuji got a huge thumbs down from me. Bought a Panasonic s1r to replace the rest of my Sony FF equipment. It's their loss. I also sold my fuji xt3 and went back to xt2. It has a better low light performance/less shot noise and the AF on the xt3 was way over-hyped.
The Canon RP/R, doesn't do Dual Pixel AF, in 4K video, and it is heavily cropped . Why didn't you say that?
The extended battery life and stabilized sensor is compelling me to get this camera. The hot shoe does not communicate with the hotshoe mic I've read.
the digital mic from Sony becomes an analogue one on the a6600.
I like the fact full frame cameras are getting so close in price to apsc cameras.
It's actually the other way around, APS-C cameras are getting closer to full frame cameras... which is sad.
dash3dot I was about to say that lol
@@dash3dot Why is it bad?
You can chose between similarly priced cameras and have to chose between better picture quality in low light and better portability.
Other than that the differences are often niche.
There are cheaper APS-C and M43 cameras out there but they often lack featres and or overall picture quality compared to FF.
Its just that the premium APS-C are nowadays comparable in pice and quality to FF (in good conditions)
Why did sony have to remove the awesome flash i love to use it for bounce. Now i have to give up ibis for a6400 😔
6400 is bargain for its price! and a little flash is a very handy as fill or bounce must have for me even though i have many on camera flashes but NOT always with me , ill pay an extra to have it just in case shame its not offered/included in 6600 , the more light the better
There is a major issue here: with the same amount of money you can get either a6600 with 16 55 f2. 8 or a7 iii with 16 55 f4. So stuck here.
I got GAS half way through video, but I do appreciate knowing the nuances between cameras.
Size matters. Aps-c should be as compact as possible. If you need a bigger body, there is plenty good reasons to buy full frame, and few to buy aps-c.
I admire you and Chelsea and how much you guys are offering generously for free, thank you and keep it up. Hugh
Thanks Tony! Great video! I have owned a6000 & 6500 before, but traded them for the A7iii and also enjoy much, much more my Fuji XT3!
That's interesting... Can you explain. I assume because XT3 looks and feels like a proper camera not a box of tricks
Cool
You make a big point of in-body stabilization yet the XT-3 (without) is your favorite camera to use.
I went for a6600 due to stabilization, battery and better focus in the end.
But Fuji look so vintage, much much better to me.
Sony A6600 "flagship" and it only have 1 UHS-I SD Card Slot and on battery compartment?
Sony are cheap... Most of their stuff is plastic and their controls are just painful to use on apsc....
It's not a Pro camera

I'm rocking the a 6400 and I never EVER go under 1/100 at 50m 1.8
Unless you shoot in low light.
Completely disagree depending on how you shoot-
IBIS is just so uesefull for photos if you use it without a tripod which like 80% of APS-C user do.

It should not be that hard to produce a grip with a window-frame that let you see through for vlogging?
And on top of this it is better to sometimes look a little bit down when talking to people. We do this all day long if we switch from looking to eyes and mouth during conversation.
Not feeling this one. Was hoping for 10bit for video. A7s3 hopefully withing the next 20 years maybe?
Tony, when you compare lens options it would be great if you included the more mundane lenses like 35mm OSS/35mm WR, the 18-135mm options from each company, etc.
Nowadays when Tony holds cameras and stuff way close to the vlog camera, it feels like he's just trolling Camera Conspiracies... "Oh look! See how fast my Canon refocuses on my face!"
all he wants is the perfect cammmerrraaah...
Latest version Sony menus are quite well organized
what camera and lens combo do you recommend for music videos in a tight budget ?
15:42 having used almost all of the brands over the years this is right on the money. Sony should spend some money, get a few different independents to formulate some options for a menu replacement, put them up on line in an interactive way for people to comment and vote on and release their cameras with one of them while maintaining the option for the others to be unofficially installed. They would slay their competition. But they won’t. An open source development for their camera firmware like what we have in Linux would astound them with the amount of love it would garner them.
Seems like I'd rather save a few extra bucks and get the a7iii.
I really want a gh5 with phase detection. I could live with the 15mm 1.7 all the time
Why not go olimpus omd em1 mk2 than? Or even em5 mk3...
For video yes Gh5 other wise nah
If the Panasonic Engineers are watching all these videos. The GH6 should be awesome.
@@orshanti Olympus is compatible with only olympus lenses right ? I didnt see any great in between lenses, it was either kit or go pro, so I went Panasonic back in the day with the g7. Loved the camera (not the shutter sound)
@@ryanthomas9306 Panasonic and Olympus share the micro four thirds mount. Even Sigma has lenses for it.
Make videos on comparision between
Fuji 15 66 vs sony 16 55
Low light autofocus between fuji xt3 and sony a6600
And which has better overall image quality
So couldn’t you just get a stabilizer to compensate for the lack of IBIS on xt3?
Yes but no. Cause most vloggers are too lazy to get a gimbal.
Not fair!! 6600 vs X-T3 ,when fuji already released X-T4 ,wich has ibis and bigger batery. Hmmmm
The XT4 was and still is not ready to ship, B&H shows May 11 for ship dates. This video was released in Nov 2019, so the XT3 was the comparison.
I'd love to see a comparison with the xt4 now
It's still not ready for shipments. But yep, once it's out, that would be an interesting review.
Comparing A6600 to A6400 i did rather spend the extra money to get a gimbal no? BTW forward facing screen is so convenient to frame yourself and your family. As a traveler, I noticed lots of people asking other people to take pictures for them. With a forward facing screen you don't have to and you can take images you like not what the person you asked for help like.
Fujifilm xt3 the best. Los colores y los filtros son increíbles, todo en un cuerpo compacto y hermoso. ¡¡¡Perfección!!!
Based on this review, the king of small chip camera world is Olympus.
Are chips keto though?
@@77dris 😁 yeah if they don't have carbs. 😀👍
@@allencrider if you need a new camera now i would get the em5 mark 3 and then trade down the line for the 47 mp omd
Exactly
@@allencrider I have the original 16mp EM1 and it takes great pictures and is super cheap now and it doesn't have a flip out screen!
Can we get a full comparision between a7 iv and xpro 3?!
"okay it lacks a joystick but you know what, you can FOCUS AND RECOMPOSE now!!"
I'm hoping for an xt4 or an xh2, either one should hopefully address the current shortcomings.
I feel totally set with xt3 and xh1
Fuji didn't aim @ vloggers at all I guess. Otherwise both great cameras. But I guess for the price of Sony apsc glass going a7III would be the better choice as you mentioned.
Aiming a product at 200 people on the planet is rather poor business decision.
@@dash3dot sony makes up for it with cheaply made cameras mostly of plastic and great marketing...
Tony, your shirt "Highway 395" from Mt. Whitney to Yosemite is one of the prime areas for photography and one of my favorites.
You've changed the definition of a "Compact Camera" somewhat
At 7:00 when you look above the camera, it's not disturbing, took me a while to notice that you didn't look straight into the lens, so that's the point, if you sometimes look up, people won't really notice at all. Still, side is preferred overall because of that microphone.
Trying to get back to photography after a long time. COVID days is the main reason.
Had migrated to Fuji from a SONY SLR fan thanks to their superzoom X-S1 and a bad back. Smitten by Fuji colors and in camera processing, later got a XE2 with the kit lens, XF55-200, XF100-400.
Family events, some travel, birding etc. are my aim. Still I have a SONY SAL16-80ZA and SAL70-300G from SLR days. No takers (made a mistake selling the A580 body alone) for these lenses now. To put them back to use with a LAEA5 adaptor do you see any issues with A6600? Would these lenses benefit from the in body stabilization? A6600 is selling discounted now
Tony, I really love the leather like case you are using for the X-T3, can you share the link for it? Great video again. Thank you for making these videos.
With my Sony A6400 I focus with my thumb on the touchscreen while Iooking through the viewfinder.
How does the a6600's autofocus performance compare to the D500 for sports and wildlife? Is real time tracking as good as 3D tracking for sports? Does the a6600 do as good in modes comparable to group af in picking out birds against tricky backgrounds in low light?
