    Well… IBIS also makes a difference for stills when you have a slow shutter speed. Useful for low light situation, but not only. I like to go to 1/8s or even 1/6s for street photography sometimes, having every building clear and people/bikes/cars blurred… Hard to do without IBIS if you don’t have a tripod :/

    Great, very comprehensive testing and analysis!
    I used to own a Sony a6300. I loved its 4K24 image quality, but handheld shooting without microjitters was so difficult. With a heavy rig it was ok, but looked so silly for that small camera!
    Last year I bought the X-T4 and I love it! It is great for hybrid shooting and run&gun filmmaking. Still, I would say that the most challenging way of shooting is handheld with swaying motion. The IBIS tries too hard to resist that motion and results in stuttering. I wish those IBIS parameters could be changed.

      It has a “silent” movie mode. Which does save the settings but disables all the dials and forces you to use the touch screen to control all functions. Is the stabilization on the XT-4 better with IBIS + OIS, or with only IBIS? Have heard that those two IS-systems sometimes work against each other and you end up with "sticky" camera movement.

    • @markwiemels
      @markwiemels  3 года назад +1

      You can not disable OIS, and use IBIS only. So it’s either all IS on or all off. It works well enough, but isn’t perfect.

    • @HenryMerk
      @HenryMerk 3 года назад

      @@markwiemels Thanks for answering, appreciate it. What I meant was...is the stabilization level kind of the same when you use a prime lens and therefore only have IBIS enabled...or use an OIS-lens and therefore have OIS+IBIS enabled?

    • @markwiemels
      @markwiemels  3 года назад +1

      @@HenryMerk I don’t find that the IBIS and OIS fight each other. Some of the Fuji lenses have less than perfect OIS for video already, they tend to jump instead of moving smoothly, but the IBIS does not appear to make things worse. Thanks for the video Mark - nice job.
    I own an XT3 and carrying an extra couple of batteries is no biggie.
    My movie settings never get lost - switching back & forth to stills.
    Using a gimbal normally (this would even be needed with IBIS), as you've noted. Gimbals are needed to video.
    IBIS is more useful for low light stills, of course.
    IBIS is great marketing & sells many more cameras too.
    The flippy screen is over-rated since I can make changes in post and I generally know already what my lens sees during a vlog. I see you did a great job too with your vlog, without the flippy screen. I've tried the mirrors but even then I don't really need that either.
    Despite my bias, I think the XT3 is a much better deal, especially now since the price is reduced with the introduction of the XT4, as you've noted.
    I do however need a larger grip so a simple add on Small Rig piece is OK.
    The firmware upgrades (now 4.1) also reduces the need to buy newer hardware.
    Question: should I disable the OIS in my 18-55 with gimbal usage? I'll try and see if this helps or hinders.
    Keep up the videos and thanks again.

    The X-T4 would have been a dream and would have paid the 500 extra,
    IF THE IBIS WASN'T SO "WARPish" IN THE CORNERS!
    That alone is a deal-breaker for me - it looks like someone slapped
    a random heavy stabilization in post without even checking to see how it looks!

    As a still photographer, I notice low light is a problem with prime lens on my XT-20 (which is basically the same sensor as the XT-3). The OIS XF-18-55 lets me do urban night photography that isn't blurred. I do wonder how the X-T4's IBIS with a prime zoom compares to low light still photography.

      IBIS makes a huge difference for low light despite what other channels and forums say. I can get away with 1/30 second on an 85mm lens but I've got a slightly shaky hand. When I had the X-T20 I had to follow the focal length doubled rule.
