I still have a doubt and I'm wondering, do you think the Fuji will bring more soul to the Picts and video ? or it is possible to achieve the same color results after grading on both camera ? It is possible to get similar results after color grading, but we tried our best to give you results that showed what it looked like without messing too much with their color science. Both great cameras depends on what kind of photography you are interested in doing. Video recording is limited on the Fuji and it also doesn't have the flip up screen.

      @@TheSlantedLens I have the a6400 coming tomorrow, but I'm still going back and forth and questioning whether I went with the right choice. I'm interested in mostly stills (very little video). I shoot a lot of indoor family pics and really prefer jpeg without needing to do much editing. I'm starting fresh with lenses (I had an NEX 5T with a couple of lenses that was stolen over the summer). I loved the look of jpegs straight out of the camera on the x-t20, but I had difficulty focusing on moving subjects in regular indoor low light and missed a lot of shots for the week I had it, so I returned it. Also tried a Panasonic GX-85, and really didn't like how it handled indoor pics (beautiful outside though). So, I'm still going back and forth - the Fujifilm X-T30 because I really liked the look of out of camera jpegs of the X-T20 (colors, how noise looked with ISO 3200 and 6400, etc), but I wanted better auto focus tracking. Or the a6400 because of the better autofocus tracking but I'm worried about the colors because I never really liked the colors of my NEX-5T and how it will handle noise in jpegs when shooting at those higher ISOs in lower light. Any insight you guys can provide would be much appreciated!

    • @mikecamdawg
      @mikecamdawg 3 года назад

      @Coo Koo I didn't like the X-T30 and sent it back shortly after buying it. I had trouble getting in focus pictures with it. Not sure why. I LOVED the a6400 (my concern over good colors with Sony jpegs turned out to be unfounded with the newer models). I eventually sold the a6400 and upgraded to the a6600 for in body stabilization, better battery, and better grip. Sorry I can't provide better info on the X-T30, but as I said, I loved the a6400, and the a6600 is pretty much the perfect camera for me.

    • @mikecamdawg
      @mikecamdawg 3 года назад

      @Coo Koo I shoot almost entirely still photography. I shoot primarily family pics. The a6600 is the first DSLR camera I've had with IBIS; it seems pretty effective to me (especially when shooting in low light with a non-stabilized lens). For example, around Christmas 2019 (when I still had the a6400 and my a6600 first arrived), I used both cameras with my Sigma 30 1.4 lens to shoot ornaments on our tree with the only light being the bulbs on the tree. I could handhold and get sharp pics with the a6600 with a shutter speed of 1/15. With the a6400 without IBIS the best I could do with reasonably sharp images was a shutter speed of 1/40. As I get older, my hands aren't as steady as they used to be, so for me, the IBIS in the a6600 helps. Regarding the Fuji models, I can't help you there. If I were going for one, I'd choose the XS10 (because of IBIS and much better grip size). Like I said before, I couldn't take sharp pics with the X-T30 no matter what I tried. The autofocus on the Sony a6400/a6600 is much, much better than anything else I've tried (including the X-T30), but that wouldn't affect me taking sharp pictures when focus was achieved (especially with static objects). It could have been the grip was so small on thee X-T30, but regardless, it wasn't for me. Best of luck to you.

    Thank you for the review. It's interesting. I'm waiting for my X-T30 by preorder as a replacement of X-T20, but still not sure about the choice, probably EOS RP or 6400 will be better. About comparing ISO, all Fuji color profiles, except Enterna has a strong curve, that makes the image more darken, but allows to save more details in the light. If you compared raw files, it's important to notice which raw converter was be used, because Adobe Lightroom badly works with Fuji files, generates fewer details and provides strange noise.

    why did you choose Sony Sonnar T* FE 35mm f/2.8 for a6400 and not the sony 35mm f1.8,lens, it would also have been fairer to compare to the fuji 35mmf2 you chose (same price, same aperture)

    • @amanieux
      @amanieux 5 лет назад +2

      @Foto4Max agree its a no brainer to choose the sigma 30mm1.4 over the sony 35mm f2. 8 as it has similar image quality but 2 stops brighter and half the price. (but the sony 35mm f1. 8 is also tempting for OS that compensate for lack of IBIS, extra compactnes and being native that could maybe focus better in video but less sharp, 0.2 stop darker (t2.0 for sony 35 vs t1.8 for the sigma f1.4) and 170$ extra over the sigma 30 - hard to choose but i think i'd sacrifice a bit of image quality and get the OS + compactness of the sony 35mmf1.8 if i had to pick a single all purpose lens for a6400 most side by side comparison between these 2 lens get to this conclusion)

      @@TheSlantedLens Since I already have A7III and Fuji XT3, among other cameras, I don't see a reason yet to get one or the other. I do agree about grip, it is a problem on every Fuji camera other than XH1. I had to attach an extra grip to XT3 from Day 1. I had XT20, and that required an extra grip as well. And even with extra grip, Sony A6XXX grip is more comfortable in my hand.
      However, if I was starting out and had no preference, between the two today, I probably would have gotten A6400, because I have to take lenses into account. And for A6400, I could get very sharp and AFFORDABLE Sigma 16/1.4, 30/1.4 and 56/1.4 and have a nice little kit. XT30 also has a nice little kit of 23/2, 35/2 and 50/2, but I prefer F1.4 over 2.0 especially on a crop

    Some missed points is that the Fuji has way less rolling shutter in 4K and also has better out of camera color with their film simulation mode. As someone who has owned the Sony A6300 for a whole year I am very happy with my XT30. And I like shooting with f-log and putting the eterna color profile on after. Other than the lens choice used for the cameras, it's a great review, just the type that's needed these days. I'd rather go with Sony when not using tripod, but with tripod, I'd probably go Fuji. The Fuji's heavier weight means there's a higher chance of it making a good balance with a heavy lens. For video, I'd rather go with Sony. For it's price point, the Sony, however, could compete well with Fuji XT2, which, unlike the Sony, has weather sealing. I forget if the Sony has touchscreen, but having weather sealing is probably more important than having a touchscreen, at least when you'd want to get into more situations to get more creative photos. The area where Sony might have the lesser-known benefit is when it has to do with lowlight video, especially astro; the Sony can do much longer shutter speeds than 24 fps, which is where the Fuji's limit is. I have been an avid night sky watcher and the ability to use the longer exposures is a hands-down winner for such a niche use.

      With the Fujifilm lenses, particularly primes, you can easily carry 6-7 lenses in a medium size bag (such as the Billingham 207) with an X-H1. With Sigma lenses you are going to get 2-3 at best generally, 1 if it is the 105mm f/1.4 art.

      Have you looked at Sigma's F1.4 (16, 30, 56) trio for Sony E mount? They are some of the sharpest lenses around, and at such great prices. Fuji 16mm 1.4 is $750, the Sigma is $399, granted Fuji version is weather resistant but still, that's a huge price difference.

    The still image capabilities on the Fuji blow the Sony away. 30fps RAW compared to what is it 8fps on the Sony? The readout is also way faster so you can use electronic shutter without getting jello shots when there is action. Same applies for video, very low rolling shutter. 1080p also sucks on the Sony, tons of moire. To really see color differences you have to test in a variety of lighting. Eterna on the XT30 is better than anything the Sony offers. Log profiles are nice but limited in 8 bit. HLG on the Sony is pretty nice though.
    The Sony is worth it if you want the absolute best AF or if you need the flip screen.

      Also, in this comparison they didnt adjust the images to get comparable exposure. If they did that, they A6400 would have clearly had less noise than the X-T30. You cant just say that they both have comparable noise at an ISO level, while one image is so obviously darker than the other.

    Did you meter the scene with an external light meter to make sure that both cameras were exposing the scene the same way or did you just set both cameras with the same exact exposure triangle settings? If you didn't use a light meter and just set both cameras to the same values, then you just wasted everybody's time. I truly get the sense that you two do not know how to properly compare cameras. Your comments about the ISO just seem completely clueless. The image quality at any given ISO depends more on the overall ambient light than the camera's stated ISO value. Consequently, I may get a better result at a higher ISO with a scene with good ambient lighting than I may get with a lower ISO in much lower light (using lower shutter speeds). It's all about how much light is hitting the sensor. So to say, that you can't use the camera above a certain ISO (like 1600) shows that you truly do not understand the principles involved. Such comments only apply to the extreme ISO setting in these cameras, where the signal to noise ratio is objectively unacceptable regardless of the available ambient light.

    Sorry to nit pick, but presuming Fujifilm is being optimistic about ISO by saying they under expose when compared to Sony, may not be accurate. Correctly exposed to a standard many times produces a not so good looking LCD Jpeg, so many companies like Sony set exposure through a different method, called REI, which extends the tolerance of the standard, allowing them to have brighter screen jpegs at the same exposure. Both exposures still fall within the leeway given for accurate exposure. You could say Sony are not being accurate, but rather trying to produce better looking jpgs on screen as a marketing tool if compared next to another brand set to the exact same exposure. The presumption is the darker of the two images is the incorrect exposure and the implication is the company is lying about their iso values, which is not the case. This is not even mentioning T stop vs F stop. Just pointing that out.

    • @johnarmstrong6940
      @johnarmstrong6940 5 лет назад

      Ziggi Mon Yes correct and to your point, no external meter was used in the video, it’s just a comparison between two brands. You can use a external meter with a film camera using two different types of film by the same manufacturer and find half stop and full stop difference, that’s why with meters you have the ability to adjust compensation in the meter reading to match the camera, lens or film type being used. My point is that to presume an absolute standard in exposure has never truly existed, there are tolerances. You can find differences in two of the same lens by the same manufacture at the same f stop, slight but there can be differences. T stop however is more accurate. The film industry needs way less tolorence. Running 1200 feet of film finding you are a stop out can get expensive. But you pay big bucks for that type lens. I know there are differences between digital cameras, lenses, and film brands in exposure and I have used light meters in my career, but the implication is that it’s deliberate by a manufacturer and there’s a absolute standard does not exist.

    • @johnarmstrong6940
      @johnarmstrong6940 5 лет назад

      Ziggi Mon I agree and as you say, the only relevant observation is that the difference between the two brands is a half stop to a full stop, no argument. My point is that other then that observation made, presuming one brand is deliberately doing something, is just a presumption. Let’s say an external light meter was used and we find Fujifilm is a 1/3 to 1/2 stop under the reading and Sony is 1/3 to 1/2 stop over the reading. Now being 1/3 to 1/2 out either way doesn’t sound bad and seems to be an acceptable tolerance. But if you set the Sony up as the “standard”, not the light meter, then set the Fuji to the same exposure settings, Fuji is now up to a full stop under which creates a perception about the brand.

    • @johnarmstrong6940
      @johnarmstrong6940 5 лет назад

      Brad C thank you Brad, I did in fact pick up on the light meter in hand a bit late, after I’d made a few comments, my error. My point remains though. If I get a light meter reading and set both cameras accordingly, how would one know which camera of the two is spot on exact exposure? Do we assume the brighter image is 100% correct? They said there was 1/3 difference between the two, which is not abnormal. But what happens if we found out the one camera was 1/6 over and the other 1/6 under, that now paints an entirely different picture and one would say 1/6 is negligible either way. To be fair and I was nit picking, they only mentioned Fuji was being optimistic and were polite, but I’m seeing more and more videos taking the brighter images, presuming correct exposure and implying the other brand is deliberately lying. The 1/6 difference may lie in the lens and have nothing to do with ISO.

    I think X-T30 is the clear winner. The AF is not far behind. Not sure what settings they had on the Fuji. Other RUclipsrs had great success with the AF.
    Here are my reasons to go with the Fuji.
    1. The X-T30 has the new USB C port, and the A6400 has the old micro USB.
    2. The Sony A6400 has really bad rolling shutter. Why did the not talk about this?
    3. X-T30 has a better battery life.
    4. You can charge the X-T30 while using it, and that is not an option in the A6400.
    5. With the X-T30 you have an opportunity to use 10 bit if you want to go that route with an HD monitor.
    6. With the Fuji, you get to use tailor-made lenses that are not oversized.
    7. I like the Fuji’s small footprint because you have the option to put a grip on it to make it larger.
    8. Fuji is know for the best firmware updates.
