I would really love to know what the people passing by @4:33 were thinking while you were talking into thin air. On topic: the X-S10 is the nicest Sony A7 Fuji has ever made. The look, the control layout and even the size (although not the weight) are very close.
K-01 makes it look a little nostalgic. That soft image with oversharpened edges, the lack of dynamic range... I remember shooting in this quality with some of the first DSLRs featuring video recording option. Back then it looked impressive compared to video8 footage.
I just so happen to be comparing both in 2022 for vlogging/video webinars, years after the A6400 came out (and nearly a year after this original post), as I'm going to be doing 'stable' (mounted) videos and webinars, but also want a camera I can go out and shoot with. I can get a similar A6400 package right now for a few hundred less. Thanks, this is one of the best tech reviews I've seen. I got more out of this than either of these as a single product review... still don't know which to buy though :) I like the A6400's autofocus and unlimited recording as I may be making some videos over 30 minutes- though guess I could just record to my computer with X-S10?
I think there should be a category for ease of processing RAWs. I could never get on board with Fuji as my only camera because the X-Trans filter destroys landscapes unless you use a specific work flow and software. Not having access to DxO's Deep Prime alone should be one negative point for Fuji.
Xtrans is a gimmick. Offers no advantage over bayer, and only disadvantages. Any detail that falls within those 2x2 blocks of green pixels, is basically invisible to the sensor. That's why it does soo poorly on landscape and turns it into mush....it literally can't see the detail. It's the camera equivalent of color blindness.
When it comes to image quality, it should be mentioned that Sony *still* uses their super weird raw compression on their APS-C cameras that shows artifacts on contrasting edges when shadows and highlights are pushed. This is not just a test chart issue - I have seen it in real life photos I took with Sony cameras, where the edges of tree trunks and pant legs get all pixelated where other raw images might just show a bit of halo-ing.
True, but probably at least as important that they use different ISO standards. Sony ISO 6400 is not the same as Fuji ISO 6400, so comparing it without looking at exposure is always flawed.
@@Kai-P Lossy compression is lossy compression, no matter what the ISO is. Fujifilm raws are compressed lossless, so you'll never see those artefacts with their bodies.
@@problemat1que I didn't mean they are related, just that both can be factors of image quality. Btw: Fujifilm has lossless compressed as an option, but also uncompressed and lossy compressed. I feel like the Fuji is the better camera but the amount of lens options (and prices) that is available for Sony just makes me lean more towards Sony...
About a year and a half ago I was in the market for my first 'real' camera. Got super close to buying an a6400 that I found at a banger price but I wanted to hold the camera in my hand first before dropping the money. Went to a local store to see if they have any on display and found an a6100. I have to say I was not a fan of the way it looked and felt in person. Bought an X-S10 a few weeks later instead even though it cost me a few hundreds more than the a6400 would have. No regrets, love this camera. Ultimately it comes down to what you want out of your camera. The unlimited recording time on the Sony for example is an awesome feature, but I barely ever shoot video so it's not very important to me. I will admit thought I do wish the Fuji had at least comparable face tracking to the Sony. Sometimes it can be a real pain to use.
fuji for me has one problem, only fuji lens... not many has OIS, not all are amazing, but all has premium price. Sigma and tamron not make lens for them...
Fuji has Viltrox, Zeiss and Tokina as third party AF lenses. Only prime lenses at the moment though. X-S10 and X-T4 have IBIS so no need for OIS anymore.
@@veeaa Think the same, for me the future is in IBIS bodies and non stabilized lenses. I'm new to camera world but I don't understand why fuji is still making ultra wide angle lenses with OIS like the 10-24 OIS WR. That and the lack of third party zoom lenses are what keeps me from buying a X-S10.
Canon and Nikon need to come out with more competitive APS-C cameras. The Z50 is pretty decent, but it lacks IBIS, and the screen flips down...and no 10-bit video. It is weather-sealed, which is an advantage over these two.
@@danieldougan269 but it uses full frame lenses. it`s not compact enough for me and other people, who choose apsc not just because of the price, but also because of the small size.

IBIS really deserves its own category. Having IBIS at this price point is really impressive. And I say that as a former A6400 owner. Honestly this is a tough choice. The X-S10 has IBIS and better handling, while the Sony has magic autofocus and weather-sealing. As a left-eyed person I would choose against the rangefinder, but for righties it's a tossup.

Good video! The one thing that is often forgotten in these reviews are that the Sony don't have a recording limit for video. I am currently looking for a camera to use for travel and as a second body for events. As a camera, I prefer the XS-10, but at times I need my second body to shoot event videos on a tripod, and then the 30 minutes recording limit on the Fuji is a deal breaker. So the a6400 or a6600 are basically the only options even though they feel overpriced for what they deliver in 2021.
The A6400 will overheat in 10-15 minutes anyway. The X-S10 is known to keep going forever when recording externally, or restarting every 30m. Besides, once the EU tax clause is lifted in july, Fuji will probably just Firmware update the limit away like they always do
@@Vinterloft My previous camera the a6000 overheated quite easily. I’ve used an a6400 for the one and a half years now, and it hasn’t overheated once.. and i live near the equator.

RUclips put this in my suggested list for no apparent reason, but it has been over a year since I saw it before, so I decided to watch it again. In general "it stands up well" over time. I did realize that it was missing some points that I felt were important for video. The Sony Picture Profiles are particularly useful for integrating the a6400 into a Semi-Pro/Pro video environment. This is especially true for people who work with Sony's real video cameras (FX6 and above) but to a lesser extent with other "real video" cameras. Though on the other hand, the Picture Profiles on the a6400 are limited to 8-bit implementations, which makes them less useful than they might be. And that, I think is what you missed for the Fuji. If I remember correctly, it has 10-bit out the HDMI port, which is also a big deal for integrating into a Semi-Pro/Pro environment. And these environments are huge for video. Still photographers can work solo, but in the video world, "successful" Pro work is general done in groups. Anyway, it was fun to see it again. I should add that for 4K video, I now use a Sony a6400, a Lumix G85 and a Sony FDR-AX53.
I don't know if people are watching RUclips on HD TVs or something, but I really don't get it when people say things like "the K-01 is hurting my eyes". The video looks perfectly viewable to my untrained eye.
Got an xt3 that I rarely use but the IQ and size of lenses is preferred over my a7iii. Rather than moving up to the xt4 I'm going to give the XS10 a shot bc of the handling and IBIS.
It should be a win for Sony in terms of lenses. Yes they have a lot of lenses but Fuji lenses are very expensive. I mean example like the Sigma 16mm vs Fuji 16mm both at f1.4, probably same image quality but the Fuji lens is more than double the price.
The Fuji is a better camera but I would go with the a7c over both for the battle of a small camera, but only if u can find a used one so the price isn't so high.
This does bring up another point: the A6400 has a full frame upgrade path. I can use my full frame ( 16-35GM, 24-70GM ) lenses on the A6400. I also like the fact that Sony has ( more or less ) standardized it's batteries. My A6400 and A7Rii use the same battery and the A6600 uses the same battery as the newer full frame cameras.
After thinking about and researching a camera for vlogging for a long time, I finally decided to get the Sony A6400. It will be used primarily to take photos and make videos for the church where I serve as pastor. There are so many good cameras out there. I found the A6400 on sale with a zoom lens and decided to get it after thinking about it for a long time. I am glad I am finally going to start on this project. Thank you for your videos - they are very helpful.
But Sony has stabilized primes for APS-C... and for low $ used because they have been around for a while... It might not be IBIS, but it helps. Everyone seems to miss this.
I think that a Canadian talking about the price of the a6400 and the X-S10 being in the same price category so they shouldn't bring up the A6600 is hilarious (Edit: Mentioned around 6:40). Right now (March 6-2021), the a6600 with the kit lens is technically $50 less than X-S10 with the kit lens. If we are talking about the a6400 with a kit lens it is actually $600 CAD less expensive right now ($1300 CAD vs. $1900 CAD).
Excellent review. I'm still here on the a6000, and I love it. Granted it's my first cam ever. Still plenty easy to use. Edit: Oh yeah, one more thing. THE HAIR! Lol
Great vídeo comparing this 2 APS-C camera. Laughing at the statement of Sony Chris that they had introduce AF-tracking and everybody else is imitating them and catching up.

i love the alter -ego debate! i like this channel for this open-minded debates. i also have the sony a64 i admit its shortcomings and its upsides.. no camera is perfect.
I think A6600 vs X-S10 would have been a more interesting comparison, considering the A6600's more comparable grip, and the inclusion of IBIS. Yes they're different prices, but it would have been interesting to see if the A6600 justifies it's price premium.
A6600 vs. Fuji X-S10 is basically "pick the one you like more, and will work out cheaper with the lenses you want". For me the X-S10 makes more sense just because it's faster, has no noticeable rolling shutter and never overheats when filming 4K30.
I had quite painful experience with a6400. EVF is atrocious, and despite the same resolution, X-S10 EVF is much much better. The only positive thing in a6400 is lack of record limit in video which saved me couple times. And for the price you'll get much much more with X-S10.
@@BlueBomberTurbo The a6400's EVF is only better when you're not autofocusing and not in the high framerate mode. As soon as you're using that 120fps mode or you're autofocusing the quality tanks.

First of all the a7c is way above the price point of these cameras. Also it just came out so you won't find it used
This does bring up another point: the A6400 has a full frame upgrade path. I can use my full frame ( 16-35GM, 24-70GM ) lenses on the A6400. I also like the fact that Sony has ( more or less ) standardized it's batteries. My A6400 and A7Rii use the same battery and the A6600 uses the same battery as the newer full frame cameras.
A used camera that just came out, good luck with that
Would the x-s10 be good for professional work? i was thinking of the x-t3 but this has the ibis. I shoot small weddings and portraiture.
Awesome Chris.... but Fuji Chris is really where his heart is!
Love how Chris struggles against himself at 06:42 lol
But Sony has stabilized primes for APS-C... and for low $ used because they have been around for a while... It might not be IBIS, but it helps. Everyone seems to miss this.
Hahaha I love running into these old videos shot on the Pentax. Instantly recognizable every time.
Shot by Pentax K-01 !!!! It's too crazy !!!! nice video ~
$1900 CAD).
Is it just me or is the K-01's auto white balance going crazy during that last shot?
I see it man too lol 😂 😅
Chris vs Chris... lol.. I like the 6400 but for me I'm going with x-s10. Awesome post
I was gonna buy an a6400 but bought an X-S10 instead because of this video. thanks!!! :)
Good man. Love your creativity with the video. Best reviewer on RUclips
Sony: 85 % gold award
Fuji 86 % silver award
WHAT?
Based on their competition, not overall. Go to the comparison chart in either review's Conclusion page and see which cameras are in the same category (hint: they're in separate categories).
past gold isn't the present gold any more... so
now i can only imagine what someone passing by would have thought about watching this interaction.
That moment when most people do not even mind the Pentax K-01 footage, LOL.
i love the alter -ego debate! i like this channel for this open-minded debates. i also have the sony a64 i admit its shortcomings and its upsides.. no camera is perfect.
im here for the pentax k-01
Would like to see this comparison between the xs10 and the a6600. Would that be a closer battle?
6600 is lame
I think A6600 vs X-S10 would have been a more interesting comparison, considering the A6600's more comparable grip, and the inclusion of IBIS. Yes they're different prices, but it would have been interesting to see if the A6600 justifies it's price premium.
A6600 vs. Fuji X-S10 is basically "pick the one you like more, and will work out cheaper with the lenses you want". For me the X-S10 makes more sense just because it's faster, has no noticeable rolling shutter and never overheats when filming 4K30.
IBIS in 6600 is in all Test not better that OSS of the kit lens 16-50. It is the least effective IBIS and more disappointing
You guys missed mentioning that the Sony is weather sealed.
I had quite painful experience with a6400. EVF is atrocious, and despite the same resolution, X-S10 EVF is much much better. The only positive thing in a6400 is lack of record limit in video which saved me couple times. And for the price you'll get much much more with X-S10.
Interesting. The A6400 has a hair higher resolution, and larger magnification. Did you set it to high quality and fast refresh modes?
@@BlueBomberTurbo yep
@@BlueBomberTurbo The a6400's EVF is only better when you're not autofocusing and not in the high framerate mode. As soon as you're using that 120fps mode or you're autofocusing the quality tanks.
I agree. Horrible sony a6400 sended back fast . Autofocus keep tracking wrong stuff and quality of image also not so great all depend on ligth etc
Love that gorgeous Pentax footage
Really Doing a great job, as always. Like the Chris vs Chris style.
[BEEP]ing brilliant as always lads. By a Canadian mile (roughtly 10,000 Noct's?) the absolute best camera review channel going.
That opening shot actually looked cool on the K-01... But then it deteriorated some what if I'm being totally honest
I love when Fuji Chris says arrogant to sony Chris 😁😬
I thought I was in low res when looking at this video lol. Until checking out again one year later - it’s said in the opening
This is basically me... Right now... Trying to decide.
This video was perfect timing I'm looking at both of these camera's I'm using the Canon M50 I'm more towards the Fujifilm or do you think I should go with the Canon 90D it's mainly for video thanks
pentax looks so good omg. it looks like 90s
For video, it is better to use the Pentax K-5. (Motion JPEG)
Adjust the low contrast, saturation, and sharpness settings.
You will be pleasantly surprised. P-LOG hahaha.
H. 264 spoils everything.
I like Fuji ergonomics and looks but the Tamron 17-70/2.8 for Sony is a beast of a lens for the price point. Good travel lens. 16-80 of Fuji is awesome but it's f4.
Its coming to Fuji
@@kingsamvisuals did Tamron announce?
@@yoloyolo3003 there were some rumors. Tamron did mention 2 upcoming lenses for Fuji. This and the 11-20 are their current mirrorless options so it makes sense
The Tamron 17-70 f2.8 is out for Fuji and it is a beast!
Jordan it's the "Pentax Kay Zero One". Pronounce it properly or we'll make you use it for another month. :)
Love this video. It's so interactive and fun to watch. I do hope to see the XS10 compare to Sony A6600 that they are both have IBIS and they should be comparable. Thanks
I agree but the fact is that price matter too and for the price I think it is rightly compared to the a6400 and not the a 6600.
The Sony IBIS unfortunately is disappointing less effective
This was a very fun watch, Chris vs Chris is hilarious!
In Chris’s first shot, that crazy moire on the building behind him 🤪
Thanks for the informative review, and the brilliant humor! But I gotta say, Sony Chris was a bit unreasonable at times :)
That Pentax ain't that bad. Full HD after all.
This guy and his brother really know their shit. Can’t figure out why their parents name them both Chris though. Weird.
