Very good and balanced review. I got my X-S10 back in January, after spending a lot of time evaluating options, including the X-T3 and X-T4. I would also have preferred the “traditional” (non-PASM) dials, but I quickly adapted. When comparing with the X-T3, important to recognize the big value-adds of both IBIS and the flippy screen, as well as the smaller profile and weight. When comparing with the X-T4, for me the smaller profile and much lower price for 90% of the features outweighed the battery and twin SD card question. As usual, trade-offs are involved, taking into account use cases and as well as subjective preferences. On one detail you raised as a concern for you: the focus point can be re-centered by simply pressing the “Back” button next to the screen - no need to go into menus or manually move the point via the toggle.
What I really like about Fuji, and what they completed by introducing this camera, is that they offer about four different shooting experiences with almost the exact same technology. And you just get to choose what you like best. DSLR-style: go for the xs10. Retro-SLR style: xt4. Rangefinder ILC: xe4. Rangefinder fixed: x100v. And there's just tiny compromises with each model because they use the same image processing technology. It's a great approach.
I LOVE the X-S10. It is quickly becoming my favorite camera. The only three things I don't like 1. battery size 2. The exposure compensation dial won't lock and I constantly bump it 3. Weird exposure fluctuations while on auto ISO. Honestly though I bought it because of the deeper grip, size and lack of dials, it had a similar layout that I'm accustom too with other camera systems. I gravitate towards this camera more than my MUCH more expensive full frame setups.
At last! Really great, honest and no BS review! After 20+ yrs in photography, I stopped few years ago. I have sold all my Fuji gear (xt3+lenses) and found that I am free of all the customers related problems. 😂😂 And now, I have decided to go back (wife sad that I'm grumpy without camera) and called my fujifilm supplier. X-T4 is too much for me, but this little nifty Xs10 was giving me some thoughts and after your review I have take a decision! Thank you for that! Cheers from Slovenia!
This is why I respect Chris. This is a balanced review without getting too emotional and bashing the XS10 and calling Fuji selling its soul. I share the same sentiment with Chris that the retro dial is what I love about my XT4 which the most important reason that I choose Fuji.
To center the focus point you just press DISP button once :) I like your review Chris (and I like all your videos, I learned most about my X-S10 from your channel , even if you rarely/never referred to this camera model) and I like my X-S10 a lot. I believe the reason for most of the complaints (not yours particularly but in general in other reviews) is because reviewers compare it directly to the X-T4,/T3 and I mean software and ergonomics here because when speaking about hardware differences, there is no doubts that X-T4 is more advanced and X-T3 is just different. Most of the settings/actions you set in X-T4/T3 you can also have in X-S10 but sometimes you just trigger them with different buttons combination and center the focus point is one of the examples. Moreover I can even see some button/dials advantages X-S10 has over his bigger predecessors once you understand what you expect and how to use them. Anyway, thank you very much for all your hard work and looking for more ;)
For anyone confused on which kit lens to choose,If portability and lightweight is the important factor choose 18-55.The extra reach of 16-80mm is not worth the extra weight and slower autofocus. After using 16-80mm for 2 months,I can definitely say it doesn't balance well with xs10 for daily carry,it is front heavy. As Chris said about the focus mode switch,I too feel the same way, despite not using xt3 or xt4.
It was a great review...but of course you could do this. It’s a software thing and ever since the first X camera Fuji has allowed people incredible customization options to make their camera and their menu exactly as they’d like it. The reviewer should do an overlay to correct this area of the review.
Informative and honest as usual! Thanks Chris. As you say, it's horses for courses. I'm not a pro. As an enthusiast, my weapon of choice is the XT4. However, I got this as my second camera so that I don't have to change lenses all the time. It is so light, I don't even notice it on my black rapid street. For the times I reach for it, the battery life is not an issue. Bonus, there is no difference in image quality.
They also removed the focus mode switch on the X-E4. I really hope it's not a trend, I love the switch and I can't think of buying a new Fuji camera without it.
I love the X-E series of cameras, the removal of the focus mode switch and the back dial (the one you can click to zoom in to focus) are deal breakers for me. When my X-E1 goes I’ll aim for an X-E3.
I set up back-button focus (on the "AF ON" button) so that a press is "single," holding it down is "continuous" and if you don't press it at all you can manual focus with the lens ring. I set the ISO button to select the AF area/tracking and it might actually be faster to operate that way than the Fuji focus mode lever. My blank dial on the left is now ISO instead of film sim which is more in line with Fuji tradition as well, though you have to look at the screen because the dial is unlabeled. I think it also saves some battery life to not have it toggled to "continuous" all the time and instead have it active only when you're about to shoot. Turning OIS off on big lenses also helps with battery life on this model; with the IBIS you really don't need lens OIS unless you're over maybe 120mm or shooting exposures longer than the "reciprocal rule." It does look hilarious attached to the 100-400.
I own and really like both an X-S10 and an X-T4. I use the X-S10 more when I’m shooting casually for fun, and the X-T4 more (with an added grip) when I need weather resistance or I’m working on a tripod. Since I don’t change the film sim that often, I put the autofocus mode on the left unmarked dial. It really is just as quick and easy as the front mode switch on the X-T4. (The film sim control is now a swipe left on the screen.)
Recently bought an X-S10 as my first proper camera. I love it, although it's interesting, even though I've not used a proper camera before... I'd probably still prefer the X-T top dials as I've launched straight into using manual. I might upgrade at some point as it's not weather sealed, but I'm really happy with it (should note, I don't use video at all! my video button has been reassigned to RGB histogram!).
I have the XS10 and I'm sure I would prefer the XT4 a little bit more but for the money the XS10 is great. Also a little tip - you can assign ISO function to the knob that gives you the film simulations in essence giving you an ISO dial instead just like the XT4 but without markings. So I use the front and rear dials on the right to control aperture and shutter speed and I use the top dial on the left for ISO and everything's nice and manually controlled with the physical dials
I love the X-S10! And prefer it to my X-T4 (shocking!) I like the small size and weight, custom settings on the Or-pasm dial, and IBIS. My favorite walk around camera. (note: since I don’t do video, those concerns don’t apply) IMO, you are 100% correct about the click-to-center the focus point! However, the focus touch pad feature offsets that drawback. Thanks for your continuing fun and informative videos.
Agreed on choosing the X-T3 over X-S10 if price is almost the same. Losing the 4 directional buttons, no WR and smaller EVF is a no no but the grip on X-S10 is great!
I own an XT3 and I took the XS-10 as a second lighter end cheaper body sharing the same batteries and optics while bringing XT4 like video features in a light and compact body. I indeed assigned the focus mode to the button next to the viewfinder. It is not weather sealed but I rarely shoot in the rain. I realy enjoy this combo.
Great review, definitely convinced me that this is a camera I need to look at. I've never been attracted to the the Fuji retro aesthetic and I like cameras to have a good grip. But as you say, other manufacturers are neglecting APS-C and trying to force us all to FF and I'm not sure I want to go there. This product is a smart move by Fuji.
I gotta say, i would never buy a Fujifilm unless i wanted a fun camera but I can't stop watching these videos. He's just very interesting to watch and hes very talkative with his hands which makes it enjoyable to watch. Hes also just so informative in such an easy short way
Being used to my dust and weather sealed Pentax kit I pondered for a long time over the choice between the weather sealed X-T4 and the unsealed X-S10 before deciding the X-S10 fitted my hand so much better. I was pleased to see Chris mentioning using the camera so much on sandy beaches without any worries; he obviously has confidence that it can stand up to it.
I upgraded from an X-T3 to this and I *love* this camera. The PASM dial is just quicker to use without fiddling with the top dials on the X-T3. I wish other fuji cameras had it! - and the IBIS is game changing for video. I agree about the focus dial though, I set it up to be swipe up for focus mode and swipe left for changing the focus options for the selected more, it's not as good as a dial but it's good enough. I prefer this to the X-T4 except for the battery life.
I really love your reviews and am a big fan of your channel - and a X-S10-user! I love that camera because it is small and full of advanced technology - and I also struggel with the missing feature of recentring the focus. So I turned to the great people of the Fuji Support in Germany and they also confirmed that the feature is missing on the X-S10. However, when you move the joy stick and then press Disp/Back the focus is recentrallized back again. Not the feature we all love from the other Fuji Xs but you can get use to it. Keep on your great job!
Excellent review. You made me fall in love with my XT 3 all over again and with XT 4's a little hard to find these days I think I will be using it for awhile.
Great Video Chris as always and Great Job as always - You have one of the best teaching styles on RUclips for cameras - Short and to the point - I cannot tell you how much I have learn from you over the past few week since I discovered your channel - Having the Xt3 and Xt30 and the xt4 on order , I am really enjoying using the 2 Fuji camera I have - Since I shoot alot of bird Photography - Thanks again for providing such a great and information education for me
I customized all buttons and dials as per my needs, and i can change almost everything on the go. Being come from Nikon DSLR it quickly becomes my second nature.
Yeah, with all the available customization, and even a convenient button to use for the focus mode, I don't get all the complaints. This looks like a fantastic little camera.
coming from a nikon user, i find x-s10 super easy to use and i didn't have to run around figuring things out. I think x-s10's goal is for photographers like me who got used to other systems such as nikon. And because of it i got curious how does it feel like to use a "classic" fujifilm camera where you have to manualy set the dials. If i could, i would buy myself an x-t4 next just so i can experience that "manual dial" thing. as always, great review, thank you!
Hello and thanks for the review, have you considered using the c1-c4 custom settings to change focus mode? because in that way you can change simultaneously the focus mode and the focus area, for example on my sony camera I am usually in single and spot, but I have programmed the c1 for portraits and there I have continuous and wide area, the c2 is for action and again with continuous and wide are...
I agree with you, the PASM dial can't replace the fuji dials. But, that said, the most "fun and underated" aspect of the XS10 is the custom settings on the PASM, you can dial in the mode you like (shutter, aperture, etc) with different ISO ranges and almost all settings (manual, auto, WB, focus mode etc) AND film simulations. That mean I can have 4 different film recipes and ways of shooting them (+ the other modes) on a dial, like : moody classic neg in full manual for street photo + golden hour classic chrome for portrait + fun achros for black an white + astia/provia for quick flash photo (with all those pesky flash pre-requisited options enabled). Ok, you can have more on the other fuji but if you have to go with the X-S10, they're really easy to access and a joy to use and change. the best hidden feature of the camera !
From a regular xs10 user, i must say the battery sucks big time. But there are few things you can do to save some battery juice. 1. Turn off ibis 2. Turn off face detection 3. Turn off lcd and shoot only on view finder These will save a lot of juice
Great stuff as always! A video idea I’d LOVE for you to do someday would be a breakdown of Fuji’s camera lineup explaining the major differences between them and what they’re intended audience is supposed to be. Nothing super detailed just something like, “This is the XT-4: this is Fuji’s flagship APS-C body meant for pros, this is is the X100v, this is more of a street shooter, it’s mean to be a pocketable, carry around, daily camera. This is the XPro-3, etc, etc”. I sometimes get confused what all the different models are and why they exist, etc. Anyway, just a suggestion. Love the channel!
This right here is a good suggestion. I'm considering jumping ship from Sony because I'm tired of spending so much time in Lightroom and Fuji's jpegs are fantastic. But holy hell do they have a lot of models with desirable specs/traits scattered throughout. So hard to choose which one.
@@bobbygreen9106 I'm having the same problem, coming from Sony, but it's more an issue with liking so many. It's hard to pick out the best because there are so many great ones!
Great review. Am getting this for my son and his family, mainly to enhance the videos. I am 70 and remember the old style rangefinder cameras and loved them. If I were to get a camera for myself, it would be the XT4, like the retro feel.
I have and love the X-S10, as an upgrade from my previous X-T20, but definitely agree that the loss of the focus mode switch is a big deal. I also wish it had support for UHS-II cards, as I quickly fill the buffer when photographing birds. Still, $700 is a lot more to pay for the X-T4, and the 3 doesn't have IBIS. Great review
Thanks again for another great, informative, and candid review. I really enjoyed it and look forward to more of your future reviews. I have been a very long time (from 1976 to 2018) Nikon slr and dslr shooter and remains to be an advance amateur at best. Never feel comfortable with Nikon dslr and eventually switched to Canon mirrorless. While I am quite happy with the Canon mirrorless, but I always missed the old Nikon film camera retro control feel. I am always aware of the Fujifilm brand and I decided to get it as a second camera all because I watched a lot of your Fujifilm RUclips video as I honestly believe you have done all the heavy lifting for me. I was considering the X-T3/X-T4 vs the X-S10 and they all have one thing in common: NOT MADE IN JAPAN. This is a deal breaker for me; I will buy one made in Japan if I buy a Japanese camera or car like the Canon R6 which is made in Japan. For this reason, I ended up having the least expansive one out of the three, X-S10. Unfortunately, after placing the order 3 weeks ago, it has yet to come because of big demand or short supply? If I end up liking it, I will wait for the X-H2 which should be made in Japan, I hope! Above is all personal thoughts.
Revisiting this video for the billionth time and I think I'm gonna get one this summer as a secondary camera! I absolutely love my X-T3 but the lack of a flip screen and IBIS makes it really hard to shoot vlogs or film myself outside! I also wanted a b-cam for secondary angles or top-downs and this would be great for it as I wouldn't need 4k60! I really want the X-T4 but it's just way too expensive especially in Canada! So I think the X-S10 would be the perfect secondary camera to pair along with my X-T3! Gonna take some time getting used to the dials and the lack of the focus mode dial is gonna drive me nuts but I'm excited for it! Thanks Chris for another awesome video! 😁
I swaped my XH-1 for XS-10. IBIS+The Best Sensor+Price+Grip = ideal combination to me. I'm not a Fuji-guy so I'm absolutely OK with loosing the dials. Although I get what you mean - those dials really provide some unique shooting experience, I'm glad I had and tryed it on my XH-1, but I can't say I really miss it :-) My biggest concern with the XS-10 in comparison to XH-1 would probably be a smaller viewfinder. The one on the XH-1 felt premium indeed, it was a joy to use it.
Excellent review! I watched several on the X-S10, and this is my favorite.....I have used Canon for almost 40 years, but I really look forward to buying a Fujifilm camera.
I'm completely agree with all of your reviews of the x-s10. I just received mine 2 days ago. My use are mainly photography and not movies. For AF mode, I compensated for the lack of a focus mode setting button like the X-T3 offers by setting the AF button to MF/AF_S/AF_C focus mode. And the shutter is set to half-pressed AF with PRE-AF off.
Thanks for a very informative and honest video. I'm considering an X-T4 vs the X-S10 as an upgrade from my X-T1. What I love about the X-T1 is that it is light and so easy to carry around as well as the traditional style dials on top. With the X-S10 it seems very portable and light but it doesn't have all of the traditional dials on top. However for me portability is really important (I usually take photos when cycling on long 100km+ with the camera slung over my shoulder) so I think I will go with the X-S10 and possilby the XC 50--230 just because that lens is so light. While I really love the looks and all the features of the X-T4 my impression when holding it was just too much of a step up in size and I probably wouldn't be throwing it on my shoulder as easily.
Decided to get the X-S10 as my first ILC. I had tried an X-T100 before and it was so uncomfortable to hold! I don't care about the dials, but the lack of a proper grip essentially ruled out every other Fujifilm camera.

Dear Chris, agree to disagree since I own both and it s all about personnalisation which the xs10 offers and get used to it. At its price point not being able to shoot 4k 60fps is definitely not a deal breaker since I only shoot 4k 24 anyway and if I want slo-mo I have 240p. And you know what although I love my xt4 I find myself more oftem grabbing my xs10 for casual and street shooting in combinaison with my xf35 f2. Long story short it is for me a great a and b roll camera I am shooting most of my contents with 😊 and I am recommending it to everyone. Take care
This camera is objectively good but also bit disappointing. Fuji offers only 2 modern IBIS cameras (excluding the specialized GFX line), and they make compromises in both. The X-T4 is pricy while using last gen sensor & cpu, and it has a hard time to compete with full-frame cameras like the Z6 or the A7 line. For the X-S10, the price is right, so that would be perfect right? But they got rid of the dials, eradicating on of the most attractive reasons of going to Fujifilm. Seeing the Nikon Z fc going the opposite way, I'm wondering what the heck is Fuji thinking. All we need is a reasonably priced camera with IBIS and Fuji dials, and somehow while delivering dozens of variations of models, they haven't offer it. I feel there is VERY limited choice from Fuji right now, and it's surprising they don't plan to address it for the rest of the year.
Great review on this camera! I actually think this video was ultimately what made me go with with the X-S10. I’m new to Fuji so I’m very happy with it’s performance especially at it’s price range.
January 2021 i bought my first Fujifilm system which is X-T200, i really love every feature and capability from Vlogging ability, Great AF, colour science and especially the lcd res but i got lost and i switched to Sony A7II because i wanna feel Fu Frame sensor for my daily usage. And 1 weeks ago i decide to sell my sony system and wanna go back to fuji because every experience from XT200 still haunt me 😂 i really confused back then, what should i pick XT3 or XS10 (cant afford xt4) 😂, according my usage i definitely go to XS10 but just like u said, i think every fuji user love dedicated Ss ,iso and Focus dial. In the end i chose X-S10 because the feature and to be honest in my opinion have a bit advantages from xt3, and love the camera so much 😳 thank you for the review
I bought a used XT-2 a few months ago, and have no intention of buying a newer model. But I thought I'd watch this video anyway. I'm glad I did, because I did not know about the double-tap of focus joy stick to re-center the focus point! Thanks!!
I have this camera for almost a year with the 16-80mm kit lens and I absolutely love to use ❤️ It literally makes me want to take pictures every day 📸✌️
Thank you for the review! You made very fair points about the camera. I for one being a newbie to Fuji and to mirrorless cameras in general love my XS10. It meets my needs at the moment, there may or may not be a time when I will want something better, but for now, this little camera blows my mind! :)
This is nuts.. only a few min in and see you’re going to where I grew up (coastal GA) and where I live now.. just north of Malibu. .. back to the video. Cheers!
This is my first interchangeable lens camera. When deciding which fujifilm to get I chose the xs10 because I had no experience with the other cameras in the line up and realized that it being different would not bother me. My main interest being macro photography, I wanted the option of ibis available to me for those days when I drink too much coffee. Being on a tight budget, I can only afford manual focus lenses right now so the lack of the focus switch is a non issue for me. The only issue I have is that in mf I can't assign the front dial to iso. I see no reason I shouldn't be able to do that. The dial in question changes function in other modes, so I don't understand why it's a problem. Hopefully Fujifilm addresses it in the next update. I love this camera. Fujifilm has convinced me of their dedication to photography and photographers of all levels.
Hello, I already own an S 10, regarding pressing the joystic twice, it is true, (activates the focus point type) but you can achieve the same effect to place the focus point once in the center when touching the screen in the center and the focus point will follow this command and immediately. In general, a great video, (as always) which cannot be otherwise, because the camera is great.
Spot on review,. I got this after owning an XT3 but sold it and bought an XT4 after a month. The lack of focus switch, tiny battery and evf, poor shutter sound, and hissing IBIS, not to mention the pasm dial didn’t work for me as a long time Fuji user.
X-S10 saves many of my prime lens in lowlight and handheld video. It is tremendous improvement. I love it! BTW, I set recording button as focus mode button. It is not big deal that focus mode dial disappears.
@@sclogse1 just use mode dial and it allows customizable setting in video( change iso, aperture, shutter speed). However, recording button can’t , so it’s useless for me.
Great video - and agree with your points......but, as a stills shooter most of those issues just don'tg apply! I don't see any difference in battery life over my X100V or my XT3 and the single card slot wasn't an issue as I never shoot video. So, take away the negatives that mostly show themselves when shooting video, this is a great camera for stills shooting and the IBIS is a real bonus
Always shot Aperture priority before, started that way with the PASM dial here. Soon moved to manual exposure with front-dial aperture, rear-dial shutter, joystick ISO, viewfinder histogram & peaking-big improvement! I see the point of an ISO dial, but I like having all the exposure controls in my right fingers.
This is my first jump into photography and I love the XS 10! Street photography is such a breeze with this size etc. I respect your thoughts on if you're Fuji Film pro this is def not aimed at them etc. I like this camera cause it allows a lot more folks with smaller budgets to enjoy Fuji Top class sensor. For example pair this with a Viltrox 23 F1.4 then compare the price of the XT4 + a Fuji 23 F1.4.....the cost differences vs end result is not justifiable to most non pro folks out there.
Things I discovered about the XS10... hitting Back button re-centers the focus point. Video using the video setting lets you control settings. BUT video using the red video button...shoots in P mode only...uses whichever film simulation you are currently using for stills...focuses only in AF-C mode.
I appreciate your previous Fujifilm perspective, but it would have been kinder to Fujifilm to record the video without the cross comparisons. For viewers coming from other brands, the video review is far more complicated than it needs be. You'd have been better off filming 2 separate viewpoints. One reference upgrading/downgrading from a different Fujifilm model, and another for those who certainly find more interest in what Fujifilm are offering for this amazing price. It's really competitive with the competition, which is something you fail to mention. It has really good reviews, even amongst owners, but the tone of this review doesn't really encapsulate the view of the internet either. A great shame, a missed opportunity. It's a really excellent package for the price too, in a time when lots of manufacturers are just hiking prices by absurd amounts. It's styled much like the more expensive X-H2S, and is not unlike an A7 also. Nice video.
OK, firstly the PASM dial is a PASMC1C2C3 dial, that's very significant because it allows a user to very rapidly switch between different settings, eg. for perched bird to bird in flight, just try doing that with any of the X-Txx's, damned impossible, this is a very significant advantage and the reason other camera brands evolved into PASMC1....dials, not to be a new user but to be able to change a full range of settings very quickly, secondly the X-S10 has IBIS, the X-T3 doesn't Oh the arrogance goes on about the manual dials, PASM dials are for beginners or people new to Fuji, they evolved to be that way as aesthetics aside it make far more sense functionally Yes, I have an X-T2, the thing I miss the most about my old Sony and Nikon cameras is custom settings, the X-T's suck in that respect
I love my x-s10. I agree with the missing dial. My favorite feature of this camera is the focus tracking! It works out fantastic! Fuji, please add it to the video section and then add it to the x100v. Great review, Pal!
Exactly my concerns, as I took it in my hand. Where the hell is the autofocus switch? But I'm also missing the ISO wheel. Hopefully Fuji brings a X-H2 with such a hand grip, a joystick and 4 direction pad. And please no PSAM. I like to work with all the wheels. But would prefer the C modus instead the Q-Menu which I don't use on all my Fuji cams (X-E3, X100F, X-T2, X-H1 and X-T3)
I changed the record button to switch eye/face auto detect and changed the button the EVF to switch between LCD and EVF, the sensor is just frustrating and is constantly triggered. I'm surprised there's no button to switch the EVF on/off out of the box.
Thanks for a really honest review. I agree with you whole heartedly and so it will be a fuji tx4 or 3 for me . Fuji should not loose sight of the simplicity that people really want
In my opinion Auto ISO makes PASM mode obselett. I mostly use full manual with EVF. If I ever need some auto power I'll use auto iso. Things I don't like about this camera 1) previous battery. 2) mode dial. I would really like to see a similar camera with typical Fuji dedicated ISO / Shutter dials
Chris, it is not your fault but now you confused me more 😂 I am in the market for a FUJI switching from different brands, I love to do travel/city street videos with very few photos (because I am not good at all). You are better than me IBIS for this kind of video is quite mandatory, but I was considering the XT30II the XT3, the XHS1, and the XS10 both the lasts because of the IBIS. I would like it a lot the XT3 but the lack of IBIS scares me a bit. I need your professional advice for the cameras above and I believe other peoples are interested as well. Thanks in advance
All good points. Love the way you think. Totally agree that if one already has an XT4 and/or an XT3 sitting around there is no real sense in getting into this. Good to get into the system or as a second body mostly for photography.
great energy and video! I love the grip on the XS10. Feels even better than the XH1. Would have been awesome if they somehow got the new battery from the XT4 in there. Heads up to anyone worried about the focus mode switch, the top left dial can be set to select AFS, AFC, or manual focus so you don't always have to dive into the menu. It's not as good as having that front switch, but works well enough IMO.
I shared the same feeling about PASM : as a Fuji X-H1 user, I didn't know it would be that bad to use this X-S10. When using it in Manual mode, couldn't choose the front wheel to change shutter speed... Deal breaker, to me ! This little buddy is cool, but I wasn't happy with it. Back to the store. Keep using X-H1. :-)) Thanks for your good work !
hi. i am realy big fan to you about fujifilm. Thank you it was great information about this model. I use X-t30 for my production to shooting video and i am thinking to buy it to take long 4k video shoot with f-log for a second angle in some interviews. What do you think about Video shooting time with f-log 4k. Thank you.
Honest review indeed! I have an x-t3 for more than 2 years and now that I can sell it for the price of a new x-s10 (yes the price of the x-t3 is back to 1600$ in my country), I wonder if I don't make the jump. The x-t3 has the fun factor of Fuji retro dialers, bigger evf and the better screen mechanism but the x-s10 has ibis, it's 80grm lighter and the grip. The X-T5 won't be out before another year, as I can get a new x-s10 for nearly 0 $, what to do? Fun retro vs ibis
I was so excited when this camera was announced. I bought it and it was a huge let down. I sent it back due to the dials and focus mode switch. They lock out the dial settings so you can’t configure like a Sony. Also has some bad autofocus in video mode but none of Fuji’s are top notch in this category. I am coming from a xt2 which is way better and cheaper given he used price on eBay (I did buy my xt2 New Years ago when first released). Good to see an honest review.
In order to bring the single focus point back to the center, instead of double tapping the joystick, you simply press "disp/back" and that will center it for you.
I've been waiting for your review before deciding whether to pull the trigger on this one. I have the X-T3 for (mostly) stills and was thinking of the X-S10 for (mostly) video, primarily based on the fact that I would not have to get a new battery form factor. Based on your comments though it seems that getting the X-T4 might be the better choice for me and just dealing with having to carry two different batteries formats. I'm also partial to the weather sealing on the X-T4 anyway.
Great video and love your enthusiasm. I own both the X-S10 and X-T3 and love them both however if I was only allowed to keep one I would keep the X-T3. I only shoot stills so I don't need the vlogging aspects of the X-S10 so purely on that basis I'd keep the X-T3. That being said, they have slightly different use cases for me and as a travel or 'leaving the house quickly' camera I will grab the X-S10 every time. I also customised as many buttons as I could do replicate my X-T3 layout as much as possible - the main one being changing the top left dial to change ISO which has been great for me.
You can also press in the joystick
I had the XT-4 and sold because of the size..
seems like the xs10 is a no brainer
What I really like about Fuji, and what they completed by introducing this camera, is that they offer about four different shooting experiences with almost the exact same technology. And you just get to choose what you like best. DSLR-style: go for the xs10. Retro-SLR style: xt4. Rangefinder ILC: xe4. Rangefinder fixed: x100v. And there's just tiny compromises with each model because they use the same image processing technology. It's a great approach.
I have the x-t4 and x-s10. I love having both because sometimes I just want to use a smaller camera. The x-s10 is a lot easier to just grab and go.
Simple is the best 😍
Just saw this now, and the grip looks amazing.
I have the x-s10 and love it I am a beginner to photography and love its compact size
And now, I have decided to go back (wife sad that I'm grumpy without camera) and called my fujifilm supplier. X-T4 is too much for me, but this little nifty Xs10 was giving me some thoughts and after your review I have take a decision! Thank you for that! Cheers from Slovenia!
The zeal and joy in this video is just amazing. I love your personality.
You earned a sub. Keep up the great work.
This is why I respect Chris. This is a balanced review without getting too emotional and bashing the XS10 and calling Fuji selling its soul. I share the same sentiment with Chris that the retro dial is what I love about my XT4 which the most important reason that I choose Fuji.
Thank you!
To center the focus point you just press DISP button once :)
I like your review Chris (and I like all your videos, I learned most about my X-S10 from your channel , even if you rarely/never referred to this camera model) and I like my X-S10 a lot.
Bless you for that. Very helpful info.
Btw ... I thought he gave the 16-80 the thumbs down overall in a previous video.
Great review! One comment: to re-center the focus, you can move the joystick then press the BACK button.
Good call!
Thank you, just learned it.
Hey Joe. I love you
Thanks for the tip Joe, works great!
I really wish the X-S10 grip was on the X-T4 so badly.
Probably the best review for this camera i have seen on RUclips!
Your reviews are so good man, you always answer everything i needed to know. Thank you!
That's what I do👍
I love the X-S10!
Thanks for sharing!
I have an XS-10, only do photo and I´m thinking buy the XT-4, and keep the 2. Do you think it worth it having the 2 ? Thanks
Did they do firmware update, or is there a workaround, to address the reset focus point to center by double clicking the jog stick?
1. Turn off ibis
2. Turn off face detection
3. Turn off lcd and shoot only on view finder
These will save a lot of juice
What are the main advantages in the real world you have run into over your previous X-T20 if i may ask?
@@1barnet1 The biggest reason I upgraded is that the X-S10 has IBIS, and that makes a huge difference. Its grip shape is much better too.
@@ericfallabel9201 fair point especially since the fixed lenses come without OIS.
@@1barnet1 Yep. Especially for low-light shooting, since that's where you'd really want a fast prime lens, and those don't tend to have OIS.
@@ericfallabel9201 Fair enough the fastest lenses i have are F2.0's but still the 35mm with ibis. I can see the potential.
Hi!
For re-center point of focus-points just pres "back" button.
I hope it was hopefull.
Missed that one, thanks! 👍
I didn't know that, thanks a lot man !
Great review, been a fan on you since I bought my X-S10 back in April! Keep up the great work.
The X-S10 is my main photography camera, I rarely reach for my X-T4 when it comes to photos.
Give X-T4 to me then ;)
@@quite1enough 😂😂😂 I never said anything not using it for video.
Ohhhh this is the review I've been looking for! I still can't make up my mind! I think I'm still leaning towards the xs10. Thankyou :)
A year later, I feel that there is endless choice with Fuji! So many good ones, I can't decide!
Great review on this camera! I actually think this video was ultimately what made me go with with the X-S10. I’m new to Fuji so I’m very happy with it’s performance especially at it’s price range.
this is my first camera, great job supporting fuji pal
I had the xt3, a sony a7iii and a leica m9 and in my eyes the xs10 is the camera which i enjoyed the most und using now 100%.
Thanks!!
Yet another excellent video. Plenty of info and a nicely animated presentation. Keep them coming.
Much appreciated!
I have this camera for almost a year with the 16-80mm kit lens and I absolutely love to use ❤️ It literally makes me want to take pictures every day 📸✌️
Mine is arriving today, very excited for it!
Update: it’s amazing. You should buy it :)
@Noé André the 18-55 f2.8
@Noé André wider aperture at 18mm
I purchased the X-S10 to upgrade from a iPhone 12 camera, thank you for your review, kudos.
Thank you for the review! You made very fair points about the camera. I for one being a newbie to Fuji and to mirrorless cameras in general love my XS10. It meets my needs at the moment, there may or may not be a time when I will want something better, but for now, this little camera blows my mind! :)
Great review thank you very much Omar! I am about to buy this fujifilm X-S10!
I'm always here for "HAAAAAAAAVE A LOOK AT THIS!" haha the excitement is real!
Fuji removed the joystick double-click centering on the X-E4 too. I don’t understand their decision at all.
So, what do you press when you want to record?
@@sclogse1 just use mode dial and it allows customizable setting in video( change iso, aperture, shutter speed). However, recording button can’t , so it’s useless for me.
Excellent idea. That little video button is kind of redundant anyway.
Great and honest review! It made me finally buy Fujifilm X-S10:)
To answer one of your issues, you can recenter the focus point with one push of the Disp-Back button!
Nice video.
OK, firstly the PASM dial is a PASMC1C2C3 dial, that's very significant because it allows a user to very rapidly switch between different settings, eg. for perched bird to bird in flight, just try doing that with any of the X-Txx's, damned impossible, this is a very significant advantage and the reason other camera brands evolved into PASMC1....dials, not to be a new user but to be able to change a full range of settings very quickly, secondly the X-S10 has IBIS, the X-T3 doesn't
Oh the arrogance goes on about the manual dials, PASM dials are for beginners or people new to Fuji, they evolved to be that way as aesthetics aside it make far more sense functionally
Yes, I have an X-T2, the thing I miss the most about my old Sony and Nikon cameras is custom settings, the X-T's suck in that respect
I love my x-s10. I agree with the missing dial. My favorite feature of this camera is the focus tracking! It works out fantastic! Fuji, please add it to the video section and then add it to the x100v. Great review, Pal!
I had some thoughts on selling my xt-3 for an XS10, good thing I watched your video. Would have regretted it. Thanks, and great video as always!
I love my X-S10 as a start to the Fuji world (after having the X20 a while ago) after switching from an entry Canon DSLR.
I want the xs10 that feels like an xt20. Just imagine the next one as xs20. An xt20 that has the xs10 features would be perfect.
Things I don't like about this camera
1) previous battery.
2) mode dial.
I would really like to see a similar camera with typical Fuji dedicated ISO / Shutter dials
Just bought this in August 2021 thanks for the review . Still getting used to the camera upgraded from XT-10
I have one and I love it. I use it every day, mostly with the 16mm/1.4. I recommend it highly.
i love my x-s10! and thanks to all the people for pointing out the focuspoint recenter fix!
Just what I wanted to hear. I ordered mine today. Love to customizability of it. Moving over to Fuji from Canon M50.
Thanks for your good work !
hi. i am realy big fan to you about fujifilm. Thank you it was great information about this model. I use X-t30 for my production to shooting video and i am thinking to buy it to take long 4k video shoot with f-log for a second angle in some interviews. What do you think about Video shooting time with f-log 4k. Thank you.
Yes agree..the xs10 missing the usefull dial for focus mode..so take time for changing to go to menu screen
It stresses me out how you treat your equipment but i´m buying the X-S10 right now, thanks :)
