    Great video! My X-T cameras story so far:
    Loved my X-T1 until I broke it. Then I got an X-T20. The image quality is just as phenomenal, but I wear glasses and the viewfinder feels like it's half the size of the X-T1. I can only see about 60% of what I'm shooting. And the feel is also noticeably cheaper. The buttons and dials feel plasticky and loose compared to the X-T1. I was going to get the XS-10 until I found out that it has a similar viewfinder as the X-TX0 cameras. So I bought a barely used X-T3 for $850 and it's awesome! I'll be happy to get an X-T4 used when it drops below $1k I guess for the IBIS? Not sure how much it's needed since I shoot photography 99% of the time.

    • @thatericguy1
      @thatericguy1 4 года назад +1

      that viewfinder is the main negative about my x-t20 (also a glasses wearer). I would love to have the X-T3 (or 4) for that reason, but no real need to change at this point. Happy with image quality and camera size of the x-120.

    Currently a Fujifilm X-T10 owner and had a quick hands-on on the new X-S10 at the Fujifilm store in my country.
    I've found another huge negative - No physical switch in front to change between Auto Focus and Manual Focus modes. It's buried deep in the menus to switch the focus modes.
    Huge bummer if you want Manual Focus on the fly... I've owned both Fuji lenses and old adapted manual vintage lenses.

    I have the X-S10, coming from an X-T1. If you want a simplified interface, the Q button is good for that. My favs are the flip screen and the grip. My biggest negative is the size of the EVF. Big downgrade from the X-T1 (refresh rate is big improvement though). But for what you get for $1k, it's a heck of a camera.

    Theres a big learning curve... Thats an understatement of the year...
    I came from a canon 60d. It took me 1-2 days to understand that thing and set it up. It took me almost a week to figure out how shoot this thing in manual according to how I wanted it to behave... This camera features are insane though, if you want to the camera can help you focus on your dog's butt by highlighting it red. But to get it on, you need to go through tens of menu options and a bunch of them in focusing menu. Yes, this camera is so detailed that it has its own focus menu.

  • @daxvolfan
    @daxvolfan 4 года назад +2

    The learing curve on the menu system is a real thing. First "real camera" I bought was the X-T100. Having pretty much zero knowledge of photography it was quite the jump. After hours of youtube videos I became somewhat profiecient with the setting and menu. Recently stepped up to the X-T3 and that learning curve isn't nearly as steep now thankfully.

Walking around Los Angeles with a brick with one lens was a challenge. (Wanted to trade my 70d before that, a bit dated.) At any rate, the Fuji cameras are very enticing. I have an XT10 ... you heard that right and love size and quality isn't bad for its age/technology. Decisions, decisions. Thank you for your great review😊! I feel fujifilm just heard me. I am a Nikon user and an amateur photographer. Nikon mirrorless cameras are great but they dont have fully articulated screen and enough lens collection. I like Nikon and Fuji colors. But I was never a fan of Fuji's ergonomics. I guess, this camera will be a relief for many of us who wants to leave the Nikon clan. Even the on-off switch around the shutter is also familiar for Nikon shooters. Of course Fuji shouldn’t have to make it too stiff! I always wanted a cheaper fuji camera but those don’t have the xtrans sensor. This camera just heard our cry for a good affordable fuji system with our familiar ergonomic. Can't wait to get me hands on it at B&H😍

    I really appreciate your comparing these two cameras. I’ve been attracted by the price drop on the X-T3; I love its “retro styling,” robust build, weather sealing and better EVF. But a couple of my friends are, like, “ooo, with the X-S10 you get IBIS!” ... which I’m unsure/confused about. (Don’t most of the LENSES have stabilization?!) Listening to your comparison, and hearing more about the two cameras’ relative strengths, helped me see IBIS is more a video advantage. But, I’m far more a stills shooter, and would probably never miss IBIS. I’m now confident the X-T3 is my best choice.

    • @Propaganda_Films
      @Propaganda_Films 3 года назад +1

      IBIS is not that much dramatic even in video shooting. Well, during static and ninja walk shots somewhat beneficial, but not near Olympus IBIS or gimbal shots. IBIS, seem to me, more beneficial for shooting photos. Hand held low light photography with slow shutter speed and low ISO is ultimately where IBIS really shines, I think. But again, it really depends on what people are looking for. Weather seal, IBIS, compactness, light weight, full metal body, bigger/longer battery and etc. The list goes on. There is no one perfect camera. I ended up getting X-T4 and X-S10. X-T4 was little too bulky and heavy for daily carry, but I like more visible manual controls and weather sealed body. X-S10 is much lighter, compact but not weather sealed with shorter battery life. So depends on what I feel like and condition of the day, I pick between two cameras.

    • @Vinterloft
      @Vinterloft 2 года назад

      The best lens stabilization is only half as good as the worst IBIS. That said, the X-S10 doesn't have the best, nor the worst, IBIS. (The Sony A7C has the worst, and the X-T4 has the best, maybe tied with Panasonic)

    I usually only buy cameras once they have been out for a couple of years (hence why I'm responding to a 2 year old video). I have an xt3 and an x100v in my fujifim line up, both make great video footage, but only if you put them on a tripod. I wanted something with stabilisation and flippy screen. So I purchased one in pretty good condition for a reasonable price. My first thoughts were that it's amazing. First off I was surprised how much I love the deep grip. The EVF was a little underwhelming, but as I'm using it for video I can live with that. All the dials and controls are much better for video than the X and T series dials(which I do prefer for photography). The stabilisation works great, flippy screen great, compact size great, footage great,microphone port perfect, autofocus is no Sony, but it's good enough . Everything about using this for a video camera was perfect for my needs. It just has one downside, and it's rather a large one, when you have stabilisation on and you're recording Video, those little batteries just aren't big enough. It's particularly annoying having to carry loads of spare batteries and a charger with you. With that deep grip there was surely room to fit the bigger new battery somewhere! So close Fuji, so close!

    In regards of fujifilms camera layout everybody talks about the "classic camera look" and I couldn't care less about the look of a camera. But it's about useability! The dials on a fujifilm are great because you see all your settings with a blink of an eye and can change settings rapidly. And that's my problem with the xs10. It's a sep backwords in useability

    I personally think this camera is towards casual photographers more than travelers. Phone’s camera nowadays is really really good and they carry with them everywhere so it’s hard for them to target travelers.

    i purchased this almost solely because of the on camera flash and size. i do a lot of on the fly shooting at parties where i’d rather not have to carry a flash around with me in low light situations. i feel like on camera flash never gets talked about as a feature and most other fujis i looked at didn’t offer it!

    I was against this camera at first but the more I think about it the more I think it might be good to swap out for my main camera the X-T30. My main gripe or disappointment is the way the screen adjusts. I love having the screen flip directly down so I can not only take images near the ground, but it's very stealthy. If the screen has to swing all the way to the side before I can then tilt it up, it's pretty obvious that I'm taking a picture. With my X-T30 it just looks like I'm staring at the dials on the top of my camera and no one really pays attention to me.

    Hey there, really like your channel. I have been watching for quite a while, in hopes of someday getting a Fujifilm camera... the X-T2, 3, 4... and then the X-T30 came along and I almost got one.
    I currently have a Pentax DSLR. Third parties seem to not be doing as many lenses for Pentax these days, and their innovation seems to come at a snail pace. I got the Pentax years ago, as I had 35mm film lenses that would work with it, it was weather sealed, IBIS, etc...and features for a low price was a pretty good bargain.
    I really like the dial setup on the X-T3, X-T4 ... but I think I could learn to work with this X-S10 just fine, I'd be learning a new camera system either way. I like that any Fujifilm will be a good bit smaller than my Pentax. I do like the articulating screen, and the more substantial grip.
    I will be doing "general" photography, of all sorts of things, as well as video(hopefully to start a RUclips channel). For someone who really wanted an X-T4 or cheaper X-T30, do you think THIS camera is a great place to start into the Fujifilm camera world? The only real downsides I see is maybe the shorter battery life, and the electronic viewfinder. I think I can work with that given the price, more substantial grip, and given that ANY Fujifilm camera will seem lightyears ahead of my Pentax in basically every way imaginable. Please let me know what you think, and thanks so much for your great videos!

    It has a lot going for it . Whilst those of us who who understand the set up or came from film cameras , then this will still provide an excellent introduction to Fujifilm . So, you like the new guy on the block : great . It may not be every bodies go to camera, but that was not the point you were making. Fuji have put a lot of thought in to this little gem ; but we all need to remember is that there is no perfect camera and that is a good thing in my opinion . Thanks for an interesting insight to this little guy.

    When it’s not raining in Portland, OR, I can see the Excess-10 being a terrific night street photography camera. Throw the 1.4/35 on it or the 1.2/56 and use the living daylights out of the IBIS. Keep the screen closed for antichimping and extended battery life just like the Pro3 (which I have and love).

    I hear what you're saying about the on/off switch on the X-S10 being hard to flick, Omar, but I frankly would prefer that the one on my X-T3-- there's no resistance on it. I would pick it up to put it in my camera bag, and when I go to use it I find out it was on all that time because my finger must have grazed it, or idk a light wind turned it on!! It's my biggest issue with the X-T3, actually, but I otherwise LOVE that thing.
    As for the X-S10, I am loving a lot of what I'm seeing from it, and if I had the funds I'd get it for my nephew who is getting into this hobby; so he could take pictures of his new sister and the rest of the family while I'm away from the country.

    As an X-T4 owner this little guy is conflicting. I genuinely think had this camera come out before the X-T4 I would have purchased this instead. It checks A LOT of boxes and is a lot cheaper. It's 90% of the X-T4 for 60% of the price. Just to put salt in my self inflicted wound, I'm realizing that I could have bought this camera AND my beloved 16-55 (it was on sale at the time ) for about the price of JUST my X-T4. Sure the interface is different than the other cameras but honestly I think it's kind of superior in it's own rights. I don't regret my X-T4 because that 10% the X-S10 is missing is what I value most about my X-T4 now that I've had it.

    Sold my X-T30 for the X-T3 but I really miss the X-T30. I just like the size. With Fuji cameras that I have had I to buy the grip which I really liked on the X-T30. I bought the grip for the X-T3 but It doesn’t feel right so I took it off. I had been hoping that Fuji would have made a better camera with a good grip on it. And they did with the X-H1 but at the time it came I just didn’t want a bigger body so I went with X-T30. The person who thought the q button should be placed where thumb sits should be ...... I like holding my camera in one hand and that q button gets pressed a lot. So I look at this new camera with the I wish it came out a year ago. I don’t use the top dials and have the shutter dial on T all the time so the mode dial on the X-S10 would work for me. With the new update It has become harder for me to let go of my X-T3 but I can wait to see what Fuji does to the X-S10. I really want the IBIS and grip. This is the camera I wanted a year ago. I can wait. When the price drops I may get it. Then Fuji will come out with the X-S20.

    "It's small and have IBIS" exactly why I got the camera and with 18-55 lens as any bigger kit lens would be quite opposite of "small". And own already big ass full frame. I was focused on getting all around travel camera. Main goal was to get into video and flippy screen is perfect for that... Not a fan of it as a photographer but for video it just works and lack of buttons that could be customized is tough plus I wish it had higher Bitrate for 120fps and 240fps but hey its a € 1000 camera., for this price it's a steal.

    As someone who shoots fuji for my pro work, they need to make the grips fatter. I had the X-H1, and that grip was great, even though it still needed a very small amount of thickness. the X-T series grip is legitimately painful to use for more than a few hours. Even with the battery grip, it still needs more meat. It doesn't need to be canon T H I C C, but it needs to be more than what it is.

    To put it crudely, from a mainly stills shooter viewpoint, the X-S10 is basically an X-T30 with IBIS? I appreciate there are changes in ergonomics and I can see this being a better purchase for beginners or someone moving over to Fujifilm. Looks a great little camera but I don't see the need for myself with an X-T30 and X-H1. As always love the content Omar!

    I am really confused on X-S10 or X-T30 ii or T3. It is getting so complicated :( I want it as good upgrade to my webcamera for streaming + a camera to make videos at home for YT. Also to walk around and make videos/photos, so being stable is good. Problem is that I am not pro on setting up a camera but I a don't want to change it within the next year cause it won't be enough for me. I want to vlog on 1080 and 4K. I hear that X-S10 overheats a lot at 4K videos :(

    I'm new to the Fuji ecosystem (X-osystem?) and picking a camera is confusing. There's not a linear progression of good/better/best, and figuring out which one is right is not often easy, not often kind. But what made me finally decide was the price I was able to snag an X-A7 (used) for. While perhaps not my ideal camera, it makes a great entry point, and as I learn that menu system you talk about, it will be easier to get further in as other bargains become available.
    But, I do love the results I'm getting, and I recommend anybody thinking about Fuji to do it any way they can.

    Hi Omar, curious how the menu navigation differs from other X cameras bc you can’t press the rear control dials. It’s seems I’d have to navigate with the rear control dial then switch to the nipple/joystick to select an item, or just use the nipple/joystick exclusively. Did you find that issue annoying, if it’s even an issue at all?? Thanks!
