Before you jump into the comments saying, ‘But they already updated the firmware,’ take a moment to think about how frustrating it was waiting for those updates in the first place. Yes, if the firmware improved things, that’s a bonus but let’s not forget that these issues shouldn’t have existed to begin with. It’s fair to hold Fujifilm accountable for addressing these problems more proactively. I’ve heard people say the new firmware has made the autofocus ‘good enough.’ But ask yourself: is ‘good enough’ really what we should expect from a company like Fujifilm? Or should we be holding them to a higher standard? Just some food for thought.

Fuji just published a new firmware update for X-S20, X-T5 and a few other models that brings autofocus in line with X-H2s. I guess you tested the autofocus with old firmware. Can you try the autofocus with the latest firmware?
This was my dilemma a little over a month ago. Tried the XS20 and it felt like a toy camera. I felt bummed down about the dynamic range and the slow autofocus. The A6700 was breath of fresh air. Bought a little fan for it (just in case it overheated) but ive never needed it. At 4k 60 422 on the A6700 and that crazy autofocus, it had everything I needed for content creation ❤ my choice its the A6700 now part of my gear bag.
Great content man. I do miss my old XS10; I started off doing action photography and videography indoors for action photos first with it and I got some great photos with it. I haven’t touched my cameras in awhile but it’s good still see some of your work. Keep it up.

when you do the filming focus test i am not bothered by the slower speed of the fuji , i am bothered by some sort of step-functioning it does ... other than that it's great ... both of them ... :)
Thank you for sharing your test data. Many only say "good" or "very good". I got the A6700 for sports because I was very frustrated by the A7iv so-called "very good " AF. Sold both to get a used A1. I'd describe the AF for my use nothing better than "good".
Solid video, right now i'm using a Sony ZVE10 for photography & video, Sony is a solid system if you don't mind spending time in Lightroom editing. I'm upgrading to the Fuji XS20 because those Fujifilm simulations, it looks like it would make photography fun, less time editing, more time creating.
This isn't set correctly. Don't blame you, I noticed Fuji changed some things (for the better, but didn't announce it), but the way you have it set in video on wide tracking, it will only face detect inside the box. If you watch closely, you'll see that every time your face passes in the box or center it's picked up immediately, once you're outside center frame it doesn't try. They changed wide tracking to do this, which is a good thing as it's something people have asked for, to control the area within which the camera will look for faces. I'm not at my camera at the moment, but I believe I'm using multi now and it's working incredibly well. This video doesn't represent the actual performance when set correctly. Try this again on multi. It was confusing at first, but ultimately it's something people asked for though, being able to restrict where face detect occurs, and I do think it's a good feature. They should have discussed this more though.
@@Iamtongue I love you, but if you bunked the test by not understanding the settings this time, that is on you, not on the camera, and you should consider taking this video down (until you can cut in a better test). People are going to spend a lot of money on your recommendations, and trust is hard to earn and easy to lose. Just saying.
I was same debate and had both, Than i was thinking to myself which camera is more fun to use ,thats when i decided for Fuji ,sony would overheat quick on me. Fuji with film simulation just makes ne want to take more pics and videos without thinking color grading
I have a X-S20 and I've been thinking about whether to switch over to the A6700 before I start investing heavily in lenses, this is a really helpful video
I'm moving the other direction. Yeah... Sony's autofocus is great. Blah blah. How do you feel about shooting video... cause that's the only place Sony is investing in APSC. You like the offset viewfinder? Do you like the way they feel in your hands? Yuck. Do you like having to buy big FF glass because Sony doesn't want to make nice APSC glass?
"....all I want is the perfect camera..." LOL! Question: How does the X-S10 fare against the X-S20? Does it have a less plasticy feel? For photography it should be no different since it has the same sensor. So, maybe I should look for a good used X-S10 when I want to get something new. The only big problem I see is that it's not WR. I hike with my camera all the time. Thanks for the comparison! Have a rockin' weekend!
You mentioned that the Fujifilm photos dont take as long to edit in a way that you love, especially compared to edit time on Sony photos. However, you have been shooting with Fuji for a long time? Does it take longer to edit the photos because you've grown to prefer the way Fujifilm photos look, so you try to emulate that with Sony? Or are the Sony files actually harder to edit? I've only ever editing Sony photos, so I'd love to know!
I went out with money in my wallet to buy a camera with the Sony 6400 on top of my shortlist, along with Canon and Olympus options and the Fujifilm X-S10 last. Observations at the camera shops I went included the Sony had a long wait time there (>3 months), the Olympus appeared expensive for the features, the canon had limited lens choices for the future. The Fujifilm was also unavailable at the first store I went to and at the second was RRP and the salesman would not budge. The same shop in another location had one on special with approx 25% off. So I bought. I've since upgraded to a X-S20. The AF shortfalls haven't bothered me yet, but maybe will later. Accurate colour of the Sony appeals to me because even though I enjoy the Fujifilm colour I have found that to reproduce reasonably accurately what my eye sees has been problematic. I think the menu system of the Fujifilm has a steep learning curve too but I am learning it in parallel to learning about digital photography in general. I prefer the shape and form factor of the Fujifilm X-20 over the 6700 in my brief use of the latter more recently,
Personal opinion, Fuji's "film-like" look has a lot to do with marketing. Film simulations is a fancy marketing name for photo filters, and names like Astia and Velvia have memorable names that play at nostalgia. There is no reason why Sony can't do it. They just seem to not want to. Sony has something similar, but with names like "Picture Profile 1" and "Picture Profile 2, 3, 4, 5" etc. who knows why people arent using them 🤷♂️. Give them nicer names, and make them easier to access (Sony's menu system is awful) and Sony wouldn't have such a poor reputation in this department.
Thanks for the video... I prefer the Fuji as it's for my own sanity; I don't know if I want to call myself a professional while handling the camera which sony kind of compels me to become. I hate the Menu system and the look out of the camera on Sony and you have to be a professional to edit the RAW pictures. I just want a fun camera for my creative needs, just want something that I can enjoy on rather than hating the process of editing and posting anything. But all in all I hope they fix the autofocus at least close to 80% of what Sony can do. I don't mind misfocusing some shots but I really hope Fuji to get their shit right. Can you let me know how the Fuji does to the latest firmware with the Sigma 18-50 2.8 lens on it. It would be great if you could give some tips for someone who's just starting out...
