After watching like a thousand X-T3 reviews and videos in general, I found yours, wich is in my opinion one of the most objectives and from a viewer point of view with a great dynamic in the conversation, thanks.
That is one great review. And the best APSC camera to date. If there's one thing Fuji lacked it was video ability. But now, they have exceeded all aspects. Finally, the company that is fully dedicated to Crop sensor, is now the top crop sensor. I'm undone. And I hit the like button 3 times.
Thank you for the excellent review! Your comments about fanboys at the end were spot on! As a Torontonian in Australia seeing the Toronto skyline and Cayuga speedway gave me some serious homesickness!!!
Yo Gerald, great meeting you at the Fujifilm event. I loved how you wouldn't stop bugging Billy about video centric features, ha ha! But now I get it, you're video first. Solid review. Keep the good work.
Yeah, you too! And yeah, that's me, the annoying video guy. 😃 Someone's gotta be THAT GUY who asks the nitpicky video questions. Haha. Thanks for the kind words on the video.
Well Gerald, I’m video first kinda dude also, though I’d say about a year ago I realized that I’m neither just a photographer or filmmaker, I’m a story teller and I enjoy and use both output equally. And with all the tech we all know is out there, it is always hoped we will get one day a respected “hybrid”. Great review. Truly.
Awesome video dude. I seriously appreciate your perspective on the camera market. I feel like you do a really good job of approaching things from a journalist angle. Bringing accurate news and updates to the forefront. Often times that may mean that your opinions change with the market and you're not afraid to put that out there.
This is the first video of the X-T3 that has gotten me considering upgrading from my trusty X-T1. Well done and thoughtful. Nice job tearing up the track in that Ferrari.
Just stumbled upon your channel, this was by far one of the best reviews and entertaining videos on the XT3 by far. Congrats man!!! You got yourself a follower.
Looooved this video! Just Got my own Fujifilm X-T3 and your videos are part of the reason. I actually did a video with my first impression of the camera, and I gotta day, I was surprised. I’ve used canon my whole photography life, but it’s always felt like the shoe didn’t quite fit right with me. The style and feeling of canon just wasn’t my cup of tea. Now the shoe finally fits and I feel more motivated than ever, with my Fuji xt3.
I just bumped into your videos recently and I just need to say how great you're, and please even when you start to be super big here, do not lose your essence and therefore how great is the way you communicate with your subs, like that video that have more than 300 comments and you're still answering questions. That's really remarkable and amazing! 🤓 Now, one little question: I see a lot of video oriented talk about the XT-3 body but almost no one talks what Fuji lenses do well in video. I've been reading a lot of different stuff about poor performance lenses in video and that all of them are great, so since I don't know how the world of Fuji works and I really want to join the x-t3 boat, would be awesome if you could cover that a little :D
Thanks a lot! Appreciate your kind words. I'm not an expert on Fuji lenses, but I know what you mean. From what I've been hearing from people with more Fuji experience than me, it would seem that the f/2 versions perform a bit better for video than the f/1.2-f/1.4 versions. I haven't done a side-by-side though.
@@geraldundone thanks for your answer Gerald :) This mislead of information is what scare me, Fuji is not extremely famous here (Portugal) and I don't have friends yet that use it. I'm eager to dive deeply in the fuji wagon with a great cage and a atomos V, but I need to make sure all these checkboxes before.
Glad Fuji made a camera that fits your needs. I will probably replace my other X-T1 with an X-T3 this year. Between the X-H1 and an X-T3 all bases, both photo and video should be covered for what I do. BTW, that Ferrari looked SWEET! I bet you had a blast driving it.
Just found your channel. Loved your no nonsense review. I wish more gear reviewers were like you. Im going to check out your other videos now. Subscribed.
Thanks for your honest review Gerald. Indeed I'm pleased with my XT3 and all their subsequent firmware updates which brings me closer to the XT4 level. No biggie on the IBIS since, as stated, I use a gimbal for almost all of my video. Keep up the great work.
Great review! I'm loving this style of videos where you talk about the camera capabilities and say whether it's worth it or not based on the camera itself and not like some RUclipsrs that say it's worth it because it's the "perfect backup" for an $8k main rig. Keep it up, Gerald! You're getting better and better with every video! Cheers!
Got the X-H1 and it was/is perfect for the style of shooting I do---handheld, Rokinon lenses. I will definitely buy the X-T3....and wait impatiently for the X-H2. These are awesome cameras with the best image and color out of the camera I've ever seen. Thank you Fuji for saving me from going back to Sony.
Great demo! I'll add that no stabilization is a big deal. That footage you shot looked straight out of a GoPro -ha! Making the X-H1 (same price if bought used) the better camera and value. Subscribed!
Great video, Gerald. This is the first time for me in your channel. I am much more interested in pictures than video production, but I have to shoot some vids every now and then. Anyway, you caught my attention, and will follow you. I like how articulate and understandable you are, even for a non "video geek" :) Good luck with your channel !
Cool, it looks fujifilm is in the game. I am definitely not going to replace my sony equipment, but I am very pleased that fujifilm has been able to solve so many issues.
This is *exactly* what I was looking for, except for no IBIS... but form my experience is so much more about how stable *you* are ;) Definitely gonna get this one as my next camera!
Fuji I LOVE your flip SCREEN concept! They have in my opinion the best flip screen arrangement on the marked. Makes high/low photo a breeze compared to the Panny/Oly/Canon idea where you have to flip it all the way out before rotating etc which makes you miss the moment. 100% cudos to Fuji here. This vlogging-thingy is just for a few users compared to the large amount of photographers out there.
Man, your XT3 footage in the talking parts looks a lot better than the Panasonic footage. I've seen this before with someone reviewing the X-H1. They were doing the talking parts on their Panasonic GH5, and then showing clips of the X-H1 throughout the video. Every clip of the Fuji was strikingly better than the Panasonic. Color and image is why I switched. Thank goodness I don't have to go back to Sony Zombieland.
You think so? I'm still a bit partial to the GH5's look. Obviously you like a vivid image, because Fuji has that in spades. I like both, but I've always liked the smooth, cinematic look of the GH5. The Fuji is really nice for punchy portraits and outdoor details though.
Yup. I think so. And it's not the vividness. It's the color, the texture of the skin, the beautiful smooth and gradual roll off--all of it combining to compliment the person's face. And there's something "off" about the face color and texture of the look of the GH5. I never liked it--better than Sony, but, sorry. No cigar. That's why I kept looking. The colors of the Pani in comparison to the Fuji seem a bit dead and lifeless. Yes, in general the Fuji colors pop. But that's not it. Sony colors can pop--and I wish they wouldn't. There's something really special about the Fuji look--something Je ne sais qua. And I'm not alone in seeing that. Just look at the footage on DP Review where Jordan reviews the X-T3. It's all shot on the X-T3, and it looks gorgeous. It's not the vividness, or the punch portraits,or outdoor details. It's the artist's eye applied to the science of color. You can see it in Canon and Nikon too. Most else looks clinical and unnatural to some degree. But I will say I saw a real improvement in the GH5s---but try as I may, I just could never live with the MFT sensor--and I tried!
@@avarmadillo The GH5 colors push a bit to yellow and green, you can see it easiest with skin tones and green plants. The GH5S looks better but still pushes a little too magenta for my tastes; I agree that the out of camera colors from the Fujis are more pleasing. Judging from the comparison footage I've seen, GH5 video still looks sharper than XT3 footage but some people prefer a softer look.
Thanks! I didn't use the 50-140 much, but one of the other guests at the event brought one and I used his rig to shoot him while he was having his turn driving. It worked really well for tracking and framing the Ferrari he was driving around the bends and blasting past me. Got some great footage for him. I bet you'll have a good time with it. 😃
Looks nice and Wow finally 60p 4k! Sony better release 4k 60p. I doubt Sony will do 10 bit internal, but it better at least be 10 bit external. Nice review by the way.
Not for sure if this question was asked. @ 10:45 Gerald mention heating issues with this model. Has anyone experienced a over heating issue where the unit will have to shut down and cool itself off? I remember working with a Canon T series and it would always over heat turn itself off and we had to wait. I produce live local plays which last anywhere from 90 mins to 3 hours. Really impressed with the reviews and specs of this Fuji beast out the cage. Please help with your insight
One thing you did not mention and I don’t blame you because no one else mentions it including Fujifilm, and that is the optional battery hand grip allows the use of three batteries! Two in the grip and one in the camera. I don’t know of any other handgrip that does that. You did mention that an AC power plug comes with it that charges the two batteries in the grip, but I think it charges all three batteries and powers the cameras as long as it is plugged in. Which is awesome for corporate interview duty like I do. And one other feature that nobody mentions, the audio is really good! It records in 48 kHz 24 bit depth which is better than 16 bit like many pro video cameras. I’m a sound mixer and use a Sound Devices MixPre-D screwed under the T3 for recording direct to camera audio. I used to do that with the Canon 5D mkII and it produced OK sound but this T3 sounds so much better. I actually do single system sound for Corp interview gigs unless they are willing pay for double system and post to sync it.
Me too. Like you, I use the GH5 and GH5s for my professional video work, Also used the XT-2, but always thought the GH5 was better for video. Fuji just seems to have crushed it with the XT-3, though.
I'm so excited to buy the Fuji X-T3 for filmmaking, I'm already in love with this camera after only watching this video. I'm using the Fuji X-T2 until now but I'm looking forward to the new autofocus and the new 4K 60fps movie mode.
A year completed and this camera is still outstanding. Can't believe that I haven't bought it yet. Now I have enough to buy XT3 but a question I would like to ask, that is it still worth buying ?
Awesome. I was looking at the XT-3 but... I though GU said it had major faults (I forgot you were reveiwing the XH-1 which interestingly has dropped a lot in price to $1200 USD) thanks for a great and always honest videos and robust AF tests. Best part of the video was left off the table of contents: The end where you ask if you are going to sell all other brand and go all in on Fuji! and troll other brands That's the stuff legends are made of.
Great review man! Thorough (like, including the helicopter blades) and entertaining, and informative. This camera is tempting me to switch brands. PS: How does one get invited to these events?? I know in your recent milestone videos you mentioned that your videos weren't always camera tech, and your sub count is still sub 10k, like mine. Did they reach out? (Yes, I'm being intrusively "nosey" lol)
Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad you liked it. I was invited, yes, by them reaching out. From what I gathered by talking to them during the event they choose people based on personality and what they think might fit well with their brand. I think it is likely my mission to be objective and avoiding fanboyism that likely helped. Also, many of my camera related videos get over 20-30K views, so that helped buffer my lower sub count.
Nice review and yeah the X-T3 isn't the end all be all for video but it sure kicks but in some areas while maintaining the look and feel they are going after. As a G85 owner it sure is tempting to go for a Fuji X-T3 as I also enjoy some picture taking.
Hey Gerald, thankyou for the review. Im a Fuji owner with an Xt1 and two XT2's I had never been that concerned about video until recently when I wanted to start making my own short videos. It instantly became apparent that the XT1 was next to useless. The Xt2's were ok but I got a sever dose of Camera envy when my mate showed me the Northern Lights video from his Sony A9. Its good to hear that you rate the XT3 for video, and this review may mean I buy an xt3 at some point soon. I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on a comparison between the sony a9 and the fuji xt3 for video ? Which should I buy ?
Honestly, bang for buck the X-T3 crushes the a9. There's benefits to both, but the X-T3 packs just so much into its package it's an easy pick. The a9 beats it at sports shooting for sure, but for video it's X-T3 all the way.
@@geraldundone hey many thanks for taking the time to reply. I wasnt really expecting you to.Its great to hear that you rate the xt3 over the A9. So my next Camera will be the xt3 for sure. Just need a good pay day :)
Thanks for confirming Fuji is still using a 4GB file limit. I sync long takes from 3 angles so that's important information to me and has been hard to come by. The XT3 has the best out of camera colors I've seen but I'm sticking with the GH5 until they remove recording limits with unlimited file sizes, improve IBIS and are proven to be more stable (XT2 and XH1 had some freezing issues). I'm hoping the XH2 gives us all this at a competitive price and soon.
Wow that was entertaining, man. Very interesting little camera here that manages to hit some impressive tick boxes. Super rad event you were a part of too. Looking forward to your comprehensive review of the Ferrari F430. Is it worth upgrading to the F458? I may hold off, still pretty happy with my lambo
Thanks, Matt! 😃 I'll tell you the same thing I tell all my friends... if you're happy with your Lambo then keep it. (Disclaimer: I don't know anyone who owns a Lamborghini.)
Great review! I was undecided on weather to get fuji or sony, but this xt3 is real contender to a73 and fuji's price strategy win me over, they have serious lenses and if they can get away with that kind of image quality and video with an aps-c. I can't imagine how crazy they'll do with a full frame sensor.
Wonderful review!! Thanks for staying video focused. I’ve really been loving your videos, honesty and overall attitude. Quick question regarding shutter, does the XT-3 have a shutter angle option with something similar to GH5’s ‘synchro scan’ to address using mixed lighting and flickering light sources?
Thanks for the kind words! I wasn't able to find any settings for shutter angle, so I think you'll be stuck using the standard stops. It does have flicker reduction, but that's more of a stills feature.
Myself I failed to get smooth gimbal shots with the X-T2 except with very wide lenses. It just didn’t quite make it without any internal stabilizing to round off the small shaking. Even after being pushed in a wheelchair inside I needed to stabilize in editing. So I don’t know if this would be a good gimbal contender. There are of course better gimbal operators than me out there than me. I solved my problem by keeping the camera, selling the gimbal and sticking to tripods. Anyway, very informative video, thanks! I think I will upgrade to this.
Excellent video. I'm on the fence in choosing between the Fuji X-H1 and the X-T3. I'm primarily a portrait shooter, but I may start doing occasional video. Which camera would you select between the Fuji X-H1 and the X-T3 if you were only buying one camera?
Definitely the X-T3. I think it's a much better value and beats the X-H1 in most ways except for IBIS. And if you're primarily doing photos the X-T3 will be a better choice there too.
the XT-3 is definitely a great option right now, I'm more of a FF fan, but considering that fact that the Panasonic S1 will be available in 6 months, I'm considering moving to Fuji. I'm also considering the Sony A7III, but the 4K60 on this one makes me want this one more, and probably Sony's A7sIII will be twice the price as this one. It's quiet a hard decision now a days to select a camera with so many great options available, I think Canon and Nikon missed a big opportunity with their EOS R and Z cameras, too bad, but then again, better for us to have other options available.
Yeah, it's quite a busy landscape of options at the moment, which can be both exciting and puzzling. I agree with you though that more options is better. Cheers! 😃
hi gerald thanks for all the great content would you rather recomment xt3 or sony zve10 if they are priced the same? i would love to know your opinion on this one
I think the reason why they have the same battery and no IBIS is that of the size of the Camera. If they were to add that two feature, then they would have to redesign a good majority of the camera
I still like my #OlympusM1MK2 camera both for photography and videography as it has all specs that a professional requires with easy to set up to use during action.
Let me nitpick further, they should have given Pagani or a Bugatti instead of a Ferrari. Anyhoo, great review man. Not getting this but Fuji is getting really serious about their hybrid ambitions and I might get one next year or the XH2. Fujinon glasses are awesome and the line up is huge. I use the GH5 & GH5S, so yea I'm used to bad AF. GH5 thought me how to master Manual focus as a one man crew at times. Sometimes having a reliable AF helps, especially in the wedding industry. About commercials, it's manual focus. I've always been an admirer of Fuji colours, my dad a professional hobbyist uses Fuji XT2. I'm sure he'll get this and I'm pretty sure IL get that from him. Cheers mate.
What do you think would be the considerations between the Sony A7 III with a samyang lens and a tamron lens VS Fuji X-T3 with 3 fuji lenses, kit and 2 primes? I'm trying to figure out what to upgrade to next...
I've watched at least a dozen reviews on the X-T3, and I must say that this one was easily one of the very best, thanks!

Isn't sharpness more contingent on pic profile settings and lens quality rather than something that's set in stone?@@PeterMKent
From a Canadian living in Paris...Great Review! 😄
Cheers to the Canadian abroad! 😃🍁
Thanks! 🤓
Fantastic review! You remind of Caleb Pike with your indepth review! Love your style, subbed!
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it. Appreciate the sub.
Caleb is a cool dude. I enjoy his videos. Sounds like you got good taste. 😜👍
I can't wait to test my 50-140 on this and not on the xt1, time for an upgrade. Great vid buddy
Love your review! Good job
Great review. And pre-ordered.
Thanks! And nice. I hope you like it. 😃
Me too. Like you, I use the GH5 and GH5s for my professional video work, Also used the XT-2, but always thought the GH5 was better for video. Fuji just seems to have crushed it with the XT-3, though.
Thanks, it's not marketed well here in India. So looking up any information is tough. This one fits perfectly for my scenario.
So good. You sir, have yourself and new fanboy. - D
I'll take it! 😃👍
Another Great video! Thanks for the info
The charger that comes with the grip can also be used to power the camera. Handy for shooting prolonged video sessions indoors.
Great review! Thanks!
thanks for the effort and the sharing. i am a newly minted subscriber. thumbs up.
Thanks for subscribing. Look forward to future comments. Cheers!
Excellent review,thanks.
Great little review! Nice pano of the 416 too! Luv from the T.Dot (I hate that moniker...).
Another Great video
Can't wait to see what Olympus does in 2019
Hope I'm not disappointed
Best regards, Rick
Hey Gerald, I came across your vid based on YT feed and just wanted to let you know that, nice work there~
Thanks, Jack! I'm glad you found the channel. Cheers! 😃
Great video Gerald! Subscribed
Thanks for the review!
A APS&C crop sensor with 4k 60 at 10 bit? I'm sold
Thumbs up thrice for this review!
Great video, I have been looking to switch to mirrorless, from Pentax. Ticks all my boxes, this is the camera for me.
All of that makes sense. Lovely channel, man! Keep up what you're doing here.
I just caught myself whistling your into... damn Gerald
I'm hoping the XH2 gives us all this at a competitive price and soon.
great video man!
I'll tell you the same thing I tell all my friends... if you're happy with your Lambo then keep it.
I can't imagine how crazy they'll do with a full frame sensor.
great video.. Subscribed. THX!
Subbed. Now to save up for this new body!

Nice points of view. +10
Cheers! 😃
hi gerald thanks for all the great content
would you rather recomment xt3 or sony zve10 if they are priced the same?
i would love to know your opinion on this one
Hello everyone, I love the way you used the camera RAW, just the way anyone would be using it right out the box. Super original awesome content.
Thanks, mate. Much appreciated. I'm glad you liked the video. Cheers! 😃
watching your videos (not just this one), give me a strange craving to buy coloured t-shirts. :)
Haha. Nice. 😃
If you do, I recommend Next Level or Bella+Canvas.
i will definitely check them out!
Fujifilm xt 3 released in 2018 but still it can compete with the new released canon r7 and r 10 for video.
