This is hands down the best instructional video available for the XT3. No fluf or over produced ego tripping, just packed full of good clear precise information. This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much. Excellent work and I agree with the other comments, Fuji should employ you to make there instructional videos :)
It's always a pleasure to read the kind words from my subscribers, thanks.
That's the best freaking camera tutorial I have ever seen.
How kind of you, thanks for commenting, appreciated.
There's a soothing element in your videos, like watching a Bob Ross painting tutorial, but different. Thank you and keep making quality videos!!
Wow, thank you! Sadly, I've never watched a Bob Ross painting.
Fujifilm should pay you for this priceless video!👍😍
But then I'd have to tone down the snarky comments, and you'd think I was selling out. I prefer to stay on this side of the fence.
Always the most informative content! Thx Maarten!
A pleasure to read your kind words, appreciated with thanks.
The best detailed reviewer in the planet RUclips!! Appreciate your every videos. Its most informative and relevant on subject than anything fancy. Thank You sir for all your effort and educational content.
That's very kind, thanks for taking the time to comment, appreciated.
OOOMMMGGGGG!!!!! i rarely comment on videos like this..... but OMG was this video helpful... all these details nobody else talks about, all those little codecs and external options no one mentioned...!!! I'll have to watch it again to configure properly my cam and atamos...... thanks!!!!
It was a pleasure to read your very kind comment, thanks for taking the time.
Just bought this camera about a month ago... Needles to say I have been completely blown away by the amount of functions that fuji has put into this body. Now i need to get a lens that will do it justice
It is a very complex and powerful device. Try the 16-55, it's a worthy lens for this model.
Photojournalism as it should be! Superb Professional illustration and instruction, without doubt, THE best on RUclips, by far!
Many thanks, Maarten! Please consider publishing E books which we can purchase and always have with us for reference.
Always a pleasure to see your avatar in the comments, and as always I appreciate the kind words. Let me think about that as a concept - and thanks for the suggestion. There is an e-book version of the X-T2 settings that I published with FujiLove magazine.
It is possible to get a link to that e-book version of the X-T2?
The online manuals are always easy to find just Google "(name of camera) manual pdf". The manual for the X-T2 is on this page: fujifilm-dsc.com/en/manual/x-t2/
A vision of clarity, thank you for this! I'm a complete video novice and was able to follow along and get my XT3 all set up and ready to go. Great content.
A pleasure to read your kind words, it's always nice to know that my videos are helpful.
a much appreciated and informative breakdown. I'm getting my xt3 tomorrow. this is going to help a lot. thank you
Always nice to hear that my content is appreciated, thanks for commenting.
We bought a X-T3 at work, after comparing it with the a7iii (thanks to your different videos about it, too), and I must say that I absolutely do not regret this purchase!
I still haven't tested all the capabilities it has, video-wise, but I'm really pleased with it.
Thank you for this helpful video, I will share it with my colleagues. :)
I certainly appreciate your kind words, it's always nice to hear that I've provided helpful content. Thanks for sharing.
This is honestly the most concise video of this nature that I have seen, and as questions pop up in my mind you dismiss them in the next moment. I don't have the camera yet but am considering switching, and I'm watching every video I can to make sure I don't make a mistake as I really do love my Nikon d750. Your clip has been incredibly insightful on all the most valuable video aspects - specifically the ease of use for focus assistance and the 48 shutter settings. These are things very few other people cover, they are all just stuck on the film simulations...which are great...but I needed more than that. Honestly remarkable. Humblest Thanks.
How kind of you to say, thanks for your thoughtful comments, they are appreciated.
Once again, fantastic informative video with no BS just helpful information and honest opinions. Thanks for your constant help.
That's very kind of you to say, thanks for taking the time to comment.
I can't tell you how many times I've referenced this video. Thanks so much!
That's very kind of you to say, thanks for commenting.
Wow, this was incredibly professional and informative. Thanks a lot Maarten! Can't imagine how one could dislike a video like this.
Thank you, it was a pleasure to read your kind words. I'm an acquired taste.
Excellent walk-through. Thanks so much for putting this together!
I appreciate your kind words, thanks for commenting.
I have to say this is one of the most information packed video I have ever seen regarding "how to". Other youtube channels always just chop them up in tiny pieces and most of them have 0 idea how to work at professional level.
That's so kind of you - thanks for taking the time to comment.
This was really helpful, thanks. A really good, no gimmicks insightful video with lots of practical tips. I'll be watching more of your content for sure. Cheers
Thank you for your kind words, appreciated!
Thank you, thank you. I recently got an X-T3 and this was the video I was looking for ... clear and concise instructions.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for your kind words.
Thanks for the tips! I'm subscribing. Watched 13 minutes of this one and had to stop for the night, but got a lot out of it, even for my X-T30. Thank you.
Always nice to know my videos are appreciated, thanks for commenting.
These are my go-to videos if I ever want impartial, informative camera information - thank you
That is exactly my goal, thanks for your kind words.
2021 and the XT-3 is going strong. Excellent review thank you!
You probably have several more good years to go.
Just picked up the camera today while shooting in India for a few months. Lots to absorb here but great content that I will refer to often. Thank you!
It was a pleasure to read your kind words, always nice to hear that my content is useful and appreciated.
Maarten Hi! As always your video helped me a lot to get to know more - understanding a great camera like fujifilm Xt3. Still watching other videos as I try to master this camera before I go out for a major shooting activity. Again thanks,
may you have a happy and blessed new year.
Thank you for your kind words and wishes, it's always nice to know i've been helpful.
Thank you Maarten, that was very helpful and no doubt saved me a lot of time. Cheers
That's very kind of you to say, and that's exactly what I'm going for. Thanks.
A million thanks! This video is so clear and packed with information I've had to watch it a few times, and took notes. I've always been a stills photographer, but have just been hired by a charity in Vietnam to do both stills and video. I am utterly lost, but I think you may have just saved me!
Great, always nice to hear that I've provided useful and helpful information for my viewers.
Great show, Maarten. You hit on all the salient points when it comes to shooting video with the XT-3 and video in general, some of which I had to learn the hard way (such as how to get to exposure settings that fall between the manual dial settings, for example). This video is a true crash course and will accomplish exactly what you intended it to do - get someone who is unfamiliar with the camera up and running quickly.
That's very kind of you to say - thanks for understanding exactly what I intend to do with my videos.
Thank you Maarten for a superb illustration of the XT3 video settings. I'm new to video and your extensive and comprehensive tutorial is the best. Many thanks
Always nice to hear from a viewer who's enjoyed my video.
I thoroughly appreciate your thoughtful and meticulously described videos.
It was a pleasure to read your kind words, I do my best to meet both of those criteria.
Sir, this is the second video I see from you and I really love your way to educate and help us as a community. 🙏🔝🔝🔝
Thanks, I appreciate your kind words. Please watch more!
What an excellent video sir. Thank you for taking the time to make this content and share it.
That's very kind of you to say - and it is entirely my pleasure.
As a new Fuji owner I’m very happy to have these great videos to learn from, Thankyou! 😁
It was a pleasure to read your kind words, thanks!
I was searching for a tutorial for recording video with the X-T3. This did the trick. Thanks!
So glad you found my video - and that you found it useful, thanks for taking the time to comment and the kind words.
Perfect for all us Fuji Video Shooters. Thank you Maarten!
Always nice to know my videos have found their intended viewers. Thanks for the kind words.
Such a great rundown, Maarten. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it! Your kind words are appreciated.
Never judge a book by its cover!!!
Mr. Heilbron, let me begin by saying that I did judge the first few seconds of your video (mainly the lighting) so much that I almost didn’t continue watching, and that would have been VERY UNFORTUNATE, because this is by far one of the MOST EDUCATIONAL and KNOWLEDGEABLE videos I’ve ever watched, not just about the X-T3 but also about video and first steps into a more advanced path with color grading and such.
Please forgive me for misjudging your video and accept my gratitude.
A few highlights:
- i watched dozens of videos about the X-T3 and they all say “you can’t lock your exposure settings in video mode in case you have to switch to stills for a couple of shots” You showed otherwise! Very important feature specially for someone like myself that have to do that in the middle of shooting.
Your explanation of focus peaking and zebra was priceless.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. I was sad at the end of your video for 2 reasons: 1- i wish it never ended. And 2 - there are more people like myself out there and you only have 35k Views and 78k subscribers meanwhile a bunch of “know NOTHING” out there are breaking the 1 mil subscribers.
I am just a huge fan of yours now and just too passionate about your video!!!
Thank you
Thanks for letting me know. The video was recorded at the RUclips Tokyo studio, and we had tough time getting both the Tokyo tower and me properly exposed. And thank you very much for your kind words, they are appreciated.

You are amazing! Thanks for this great starter video!
That's very kind, thanks for taking the time to comment.
Learned a few things for my XT-2 here as well! Thanks.
Thanks for your kind words, always nice to know that my videos are helpful.
Fuji I LOVE your flip SCREEN concept! They have in my opinion the best flip screen arrangement on the marked. Makes high/low photo a breeze compared to the Panny/Oly/Canon idea where you have to flip it all the way out before rotating etc which makes you miss the moment. 100% cudos to Fuji here. This vlogging-thingy is just for a few users compared to the large amount of photographers out there.
Hehe, thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Amazing content and attention to detail, thank you! New subscriber :)
Thanks for the kind word and the subscription, appreciated.
Extremely succinct and valuable, as always Maarten. Thanks for your work on this. Would love to see a quick video on how you hide your mic in your glasses sometime.
Thanks for the kind words - I always try to be succinct. It's really very simple, I just tape the mic using electrical tape. The mic is just inside the arm, then taped again at the end and then you can usually see the cable going behind my ear.
You're awesome man. Subscribed
Always a pleasure to hear from an appreciative viewer, thanks?
Maarten - Another example of an excellent review, well worth watching and very informative - I also wish that I was on that beach featured in the video (if you ever need anyone to carry your cases next time, I'm your man)!
Thanks very much to both of you for the Postcard from Tokyo - very kind and thoughtful.
Look after yourself both and keep the great reviews coming - until the next time.
Regards Mark
Thanks for your kind words. Yes, there are lovely beaches in Thailand, and I'll consider your kind offer for the next trip.

thank you so very much for making this very informative video. I am just getting into making videos and this is so helpful. I also find your reviews to be the best as they are very fair and your not a fan boy!
It was a pleasure to read your kind words, thanks for taking the time to comment.
Great video, the Dynamic Range 400 tip was something I hadn't counted on in my learning, so it was really great to hear about that! Thanks a lot! :)
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for taking the time to comment.
This is a bit of an older clip, but the detail of information and how it was delivered, not only makes it relevant but also makes it a real pro, easy to understand and easy to follow. I wish I've could found this channel before I bought my crappy canon. But anyway, agreed on hands down to Mr. Heilbron. I immediately subscribed and added my like (I had to).
Thanks for that! Always nice to hear from a new viewer who's found my videos worthwhile.
Great explanation of F-LOG. I'll save it for situations that really need it.
If not now, when? Thanks for your kind words, always nice to know I've provided useful information.
Professionalism at it’s very best superb.
Thanks for your very kind words.

Agreed, and thank you for the kind words.
nice video thank you
So nice of you to say, thanks for your kind words.
Hello, congratulations for your videos I love them.
I have a question, how long have you been recording when the warming logo appeared?
Does it heat up as much as the sonys when recording?
Thank you.
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words. I wasn't making notes, and don't now remember if it was time or temperature that I felt was the cause - however, the camera did not overheat to the point of shutting down. No, Sony's problem (particularly on the APS-C sized cameras) is worse, where I have had multiple occasions when the camera turned itself off, even after the Auto Pwr OFF temp setting was added.
Great video
Thanks for the kind words, appreciated.
Thank you, Maarten!
Always my pleasure, thanks for the kind words.
Love your personality
So does my spouse. Thanks!
Maarten Heilbron 😂
Great video! I’m having a problem with both my X-T3 & X-H1 for monitoring audio. I have a SmallHD 5” external monitor that I really like but when I plug it in via HDMI, my audio stops monitoring from the camera, the recording still has audio, but I can’t hear anything. I guess the camera thinks I’m monitoring the audio through the HDMI output but it’s really annoying. Is there any trick we can do to avoid the camera to shut down the audio monitor jack while using a external monitor? Thank you!
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words. No, when an HDMI monitor/recorder is connected, the audio is output to HDMI. Connect your headphones, etc. to the monitor.
Hello! Thank you for making this useful video! Have you experienced any overheating issues when recording long time video?
Thanks for your kind words. I have not.
Que calidad de tutorial! el mejor!!
Tu comentario es muy amable, muchas gracias!
great video! I do a lot of run and gun with a gimbal and have had a little bit of hunting with the autofocus. What settings do you recommend for parallaxing an object or to keep hunting down to a minimum?
Manual with a smaller aperture.
Thank you for the great video, Maarten. I use this camera for one month already and don't have external recorder so far. But i thinking about it. Until i bought X-T3 i used bmpcc and i'm in love with prores and colorgrading of it. May be i'm wrong but 4:2:0 h.265 has less potential for grading (i'm filming with F-log only) and it makes me sad because i feel it everytime when try to work with it. 4:2:2 prores has like another behavior on colorgrading. What do you thing about it? And may be you have examples of prores and h.265 of any one scene to check my feelings? I see difference in details between h.265 and prores (from bmpcc) and it's huge for me. That's why i think about external recorder.
I don't have any experience with black magic cameras. Not sure why you're using FLog exclusively - unless the dynamic range demands it, I'd recommend that a standard gamma will provide better definition and detail in the mid-tones, which are otherwise squashed by FLog. I've been waiting for the firmware upgrade to do more extensive tests, so I can include HLG.
Many thanks for making this helpful videos with tips and hacks for T-3 users. Please make more, we'll be sure to subscribe and share ur videos.
I appreciate your kind words, thanks. You'll find more tips in my X-T3 review. ruclips.net/video/WXX8acwyQPM/видео.html
And I am working on an X-T3 travel tips video.
