Just stated taking this medication today for IBS. Hope it helps! I’ve been suffering from IBS for about 10yrs and never seemed treatment. I thought this was my life going forward after I had my gallbladder removed. IBS has stopped me for going to places and eating out at restaurants. If I knew then what I know now, I would’ve searched for alternative treatments to gallbladder removal..best of luck to u! I’m also hoping for best!🙏🏽

It does not kill good and bad bacteria, but rather stops reproducing of the bacteria. Big difference
(some study says microbiome stays the same)

Dear Elaine, I've never heard of SIBO😮my doctors have never told me about it. I know that Scleroderma patients can have issues with the bowel system/intestinal system. I don't have those problems for the last 15 years (I had Ileus for 5 years, had several operations) since a dietiste gave me the advice to use Psyllium Husks Fibre twice a day. Before breakfast and before dinner.
Maybe you can do some research if this can also help you.
I wish you all the best with your Xifaxantreatment.
May I also wish you happy Eastern. Symbol of Hope, New Beginning. With regards, Lily

Very timely post for me as I will be starting Xifaxin for SIBO soon. It’s also a side effect of Sjogren’s. This is my second bout with SIBO and I’m wondering how often I’m going to have to deal with this. Do you have to treat it twice a year? Or one course right after the other? The medicine is crazy expensive so I hope it’s one and done this time around.

Thank you for your comment and for sharing SIBO is also a Sjogren’s issue. I’m so sorry you are dealing with SIBO again. And you’re right Xifaxan is pricey…I forgot to include that. The first time I took Xifaxan I did 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off, then another 2 weeks on. That actually lasted for about 8 months before I noticed symptoms returning. Since then, I take 2 weeks of Xifaxan every 6-7 months. But I only take 2 weeks now. I do try to follow a modified Low FODMAP diet at the direction of my gastroenterologist to cut down on SIBO’s return (modified to include gluten as gluten doesn’t affect me). I’m not as strict as I could be with it but I do notice that SIBO stays away a little longer when I am watching what I eat. I hope that helped. Let me know if I missed any part of your questions. I’m sending good vibes your way that you see much improvement with this round of Xifaxan! ❤️

I would recommend a motility agent as part of your treatment.

Greta video have u heard about ibs smart test? It tests for antibodies that if you are high in suggests a root cause to sibo other than your condition. Btw do you feel and side effects on the second week of first round or the entire second round u take it? Do you feel it messes up the good gut bacteria even more after time?

I feel horrible on this medication. And it’s only day two. I don’t think I can continue.
