I am a physician, also i am teaching in university. This channel is my hobby. It affects both negative and positive bacteria of microbiome. You prescribe this drug to a person with dysbacteriosis / intestinal infection together with probiotic. It kills intraluminal bacteria and you replenish positive bact with probiotic. The same logic as with other antibiotics.
@@Foxterrier Amazing work, Doc. I'm a med student. Keep up the amazing work and videos. I would encourage you to add practice questions for your audience, too!
great video, congratulations. One question, you say that rifaximin weak spot is that it cannot be absorved so cannot get rid of invasive bacteria. The question is, are you talking that it cannot help when bacteria have invaded deep tissues in the intestine? Do you mean that it cannot treat dysbiosis? Or dysbiosis is also located in the lumen of the intestine?
Its both positive aspect and negative. Positive - rifax cant be absorbed = less side effects (safe drug). Negativev- cant kill invasive bact. Dysbiosis - bact inside the lumen. Thanks, appreciate it very much )
Excellent explanation 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Are you a physician or are you just a stud? Also, why doesn't it have an adverse effect on negatively affecting the microbiome?

@@IMChessMD Thank you )
how does it help IBS if it kills all bacteria equally? isn't it important that we only kill bad bacteria?
After you kill intestinal bacteria you can restore the amount of good bacterias with probiotics. Its the only way currently how we can deal with it
