Hahaha Leland! Great Story! I have one for you which I think you'd like. I was working with my super seasoned Cover band at the 6:15 Musical lounge in Hazelton , Pa back in 1979. Huge place and drew a big crowd every weekend. We played Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from the usual (9;20 to 2 Am . On Saturday Dion and the Belmonts came in to do a 90 minute set. Well...Dion heard us and asked my band to back him up instead of hiring sidemen. He brought only his guitar player which was ok with us. Anyway during rehearsal(we knew all his songs anyway) we just needed to agree on Breaks, endings. keys, all the rest of the musical nuts and bolts..when Dion's guitarist started playing a new lick he just heard on the radio that day. It was "Ventura Highway" a new song from the band "America." that all the top 40 radio and even the FM stations were playing.
This prompted me to say :" Oh...cool" Ventura Highway." I then nearly fell over laughing when Dion's guitar player turned to me and said, in all seriousness.." I'm sorry I don't know where that is, I'm not from around here!" Hahahaha causing us all to crack up with laughter. Clueless! lol
Anyhow the gig went great and we became Dion's backup group for the next 6 months. Had a great time and found out what a great guy Dion was and a gifted Bluesman too. Who would have thought it?
*cheers* Leland Always think of you as a great player who always gets the job done. And also has intelligent things and knowledge to share with us fellow musicians.🙂 Wish you well. And stay safe, man.

Studio Log was by far my favorite column in Guitar Player magazine. No scales etc. Just the real thing about studio work, here,s the conductor, the chart, the gear, how much it paid, how the session went, and funny as Hell. Tommy Tedesco had similar stories about how he would sometimes bring many instruments, all tuned like a guitar, doing sessions on the classical guitar hiding from the conductor so he doesn't see he's playing with a pick. Tommy would have been perfect for this RUclips era. I remember vaguely seeing him on the Gong show in a Tutu. what was it, a lost bet? Hilarious and a monster player...

That joke reminded me of another one.
A 20 year old guy is driving on a highway, sees a sign "man with the strongest and largest memory in the world, next right". He turns right.
Reaches a humble old house, knocks at the door. An elderly man opens up, starts talking to him, and the kid asks him "OK, let's cut the crap, what did you eat exactly 20 years ago in your lunch?". The elderly man says "eggs". The guy is astonished at his memory. They shake hands, and the guy leaves.
40 years later. The guy has a wife, children and started having his first grandchildren as well. He's riding the same highway with his grandson, sees the same sign, renovated. Goes "wait... hold on! That's not possible!". He turns right, goes to the old house, now even older. Knocks at the door, and the same elderly man opens the door, looking not much older.
    The guy goes:
    - "HOW?????"
    - "Scrambled."

Omg Lee, it was deja vu for me to hear about the great Tommy Tedesco. Years ago, in the late ‘80’s when I was studying at Berklee, Mr Tedesco came in and did a clinic for us in a class I was taking at the time. Well, he told us a very similar story, of bending down, unseen by the producer, and acting like he’d made some change to his sound. The producer would go, “Great, yeah, sounds much better!” when he hadn’t really changed a thing. We all had a laugh about that back then, and of course we were fascinated by all his insight into a world we wanted to become a part of. So needless to say, I did a virtual double take when I heard you recite your own version of that story! Great moment then and now! 😆

A history which is not likely to repeat, because people no longer make records this way.
Last night, I watched an interview/demo you did of your Warwick fretless. Sweet playing and talking. What threw me was the merging of the Warwick and Framus brands. I briefly owned a Framus acoustic/electric 12 string in the 90s, and it was my understanding that the brand folded in 1968. Wasn’t aware that it was absorbed into Warwick. Insights?
I almost enjoyed the second joke better than the first one.

The wrecking crew a lot of them started of playing jazz! A fact about brian wilson was the 60s hits he produced were mixed for mono because he was deaf in one ear. Some of the records at the time amaze me still to today because the studios only had 4 track so everything had to be planned out before the tracks were bounced to another machine then you could overdub and bounce again but doing it too often creates a lot of hiss
