Just happened on this. Mr. Sklar is a true hero in my life. He's played with ALL the people I've put in my most influential artists playbook. He just always showed up, either live or on track. And a real dude. Leland, Thank you. Be safe!!
Hi, I'm from Brazil. I really admire your work as a bass player and it's a great pleasure to be able to see you on RUclips. I believe you've been to Brazil with James Taylor and Phil Collins.
I always enjoyed your expert playing on the Christian artists' albums that you referenced. We all think God wants to take away our personality when we turn our life over to Him, but He actually wants to make us a much better person, making us whole, even musicians.😉 We also gain an eternal home forever with God, a comfort during this scary time!
Leland, I hope you see these...I have watched your videos one after another, completely engrossed in them...I love your candor and genuine human personality complete with foibles...and then there's the world class musician who I respect more than I can properly express. A simple, heartfelt thank you will have to do. Cheers! ...PS, loved the joke...Peace.
On lockdown in Belgium for last 4 weeks - this lovely gentleman's daily videos are now a vital part of my morning coffee routine. A 'gentle man' indeed to help me keep perspective during these worrying times. Much respect and warm wishes to you Leland.
Hahahha loved the James Taylor story, thanks for sharing that was so funny. It reminded me of the time I was playing my Bass and no matter what I tried I just could not get any sound from it, it was just dead. Then my friend said, look silly, you haven't bought an Amp for it yet, you need an Amp to make a decent sound from it. Good times for sure.
Thank you for being here for us. It's really cool to listen to good music, incredile bass chops, and something that's positive and makes sense, which seems to be pretty rare these days. As a wannabe "bassist" I really love watching somebody who knows the real thing. M&M
I only discovered your RUclips videos this week by accident trawling videos late one night. I knew of you after seeing you on the Phil Collins DVD recorded at the Bercy in Paris 2004. I was on holiday in 2009 and a French chap I got chatting to said I must hear/see Amy Key singing Seperate Lives. Wow! We then became good friends and watched the full dvd over a meal and some wine with family. You made us chuckle (in a nice way) when you are picked up in some of the close ups shots. As a one time classical piano student with the awful dependency on having sheet music always in front of me, I admire all musicians without this dreadful impediment. What fun you guys obviously have had playing that gig. Please find time to continue with these uploads after the lockdown. You are a true gent.
It took me a minute to get the joke but, I got it. Thank you for your well wishes for humanity(You me same.). I am one of the essential workers out there in the world these days in the logistics realm and I am carefulling as much as I can. I will have to pick up my bass sometime, that “Billy don’t you lose my number.” tune has been playing in my head all week long!
Thank you ever so much for these daily narratives. I’ve enjoyed your music for many. These daily installments make me appreciate you even more. Grateful for you Leland Sklar!!
I've been watching your Videos for about this whole crises (what crises!?). You're one of those lights in the dark they're sometimes talking about. You always make my day. Thank you for that and keep going. Take good care of yourself too. We need good people like you more then ever. Greetings from Germany!
Drummers aspire to play with bass players who not only groove but have their own sound - you know them when you hear them. Your bass playing for example on "Her Town Too" by James Taylor and JD IS the groove. Seems as though the drummer is playing off of YOU in that tune. Love the feel on that song. I am 47 and when I hear that tune I go back in time ....simpler times it seemed as a kid.
Great story! You were a bedrock part of my musical foundation, transforming the sound of every artist you played with. Proud to subscribe to you. chordially, MU.

Hi Lee - Thanks for doing these videos. As a fellow musician, I've followed (and enjoyed) your work for years. It's great to hear you play these songs and watch the exact parts you're playing - it looks like I've subconsciously borrowed (stolen) a few of your licks.
