Today just turned into a FANTASTIC day. I have stumbled in to Lee Sklar’s you tube channel. I saw Lee play for the first time back in the early, early 90’s with Phil Collins. Being a fellow bass player (amateur) I said to myself, “I have to follow this dude’s career”. I have never ever seen such musical talent and skills. To me, Lee is to a bass guitar what Steve Lukather is to a guitar, the best of the very best. Last October I had the pleasure to meet Luke and get my picture taken with him. It was just surreal. This year I had the closest opportunity to get my picture with Lee Sklar, I had my picture taken next to one of his bass guitars at the HRC in Biloxi. Like with Luke, it is so heart warming to see that these amazing artists are as human as anyone else. Thank you Lee for sharing your talent with us. Fromm now on I will never miss a post. Also, as a physician, I so appreciate your kind words of recognition to all of us in healthcare. Lee, I will see you tomorrow!!

First, great idea for a book. I would buy one for sure. Second, so right about the road being fertile ground for collecting...whatever. Especially as you said, in the "early days". I was on the road pretty constantly from the early 80's until I finally decided to stay home in the early 2000's, and I would do the same thing. I would get up in the morning while pretty much everyone else was still sleeping, find out the best local places to find stuff (records, clothes, tchotchkes, musical gear, etc), and go buy the coolest stuff. Cheap. I picked up all kinds of great stuff, which my wife has now gotten me to wheedle down to just the "best" stuff. Keep up the great videos and stay safe. Peace.

I have a really simple story of meeting Lee. I used to play with a singer named Joey Bowen. Great singer. Joey brought us over to his house to show us a project he was brought onto. The rhythm section was Lee and Simon Phillips🎖🎖. I picked my jaw up off the floor and Joey was beaming. Maybe a year later I was the NAMM show and lo and behold there was Lee relaxing and chatting with someone. I questioned whether or not I was going to say anything, what would I say anyways? Anyways I said why not and told him how much his work meant to me and mentioned that I knew Joey and that he shared the video of the session and how much it meant to him. Im not crazy about putting people on the spot when it comes to handshakes but Lee reached out and shook my hand shook his head smiled and said thanks. Engaging, unassuming and relaxed he remembered the session well. He said “Joey yes! Great singer, great singer!”
There are people you instinctively get REALLY good vibes from. I just put in my two cents and say that’s Lee.

Now I got hooked up to your YT videos, your stories, your musicality, your humanity! We are living a terrible moment, and you and Chick Corea are now my daily companions, through your videos, live streams. Great artists and human being, thank you, stay safe!

And I may figure a way to join . And I'll keep watching your regular stuff that you offer for free to us. It's been great. And I love your bassets- my first dog was a basset. And I love your yard and home

I’m also a collector/restorer and I love collecting. The best thing I find best about collecting is the hunt. Finding that gem you’ve been looking for and adding it to the collection. Coved-19 has changed us all but there’s hope. Here in Newfoundland we are now in our 6th day with no new cases so that’s encouraging. Great story and it definitely brightens peoples days, along with your excellent music and talent that you are graciously sharing with us all during this time. I and one of my coworkers have a similar relationship regarding the giving of the finger. Meant not in anger or malice but just as a friendly gesture to break the monotony of the day. Granted we have worked as a crew for nearly 10 years and are like family. Blessed to be allowed back to work this week, he was there so during lunch I walked up to him and smiled, then let the bird fly...He returned the sentiment with a grin on his face. That was our nod to each other that some things, no matter how confusing or irregular as the world has became now , would remain the same. A strange way to add some familiarity to the current situation but we both smiled and so in that it was worth it. Keep up the work you do and the music. You are doing so much for many people out here in the strange new world.

I don't want to read through 459 comments to see if someone has already made the connection, but the idea of the photos of random people flipping you off reminds of the movie *Amelie,* in which the male lead "Nino" collects discarded photo booth pictures and keeps them in albums. Very endearing, and the photo booth ends up being a pivotal part of the movie plot, as well.

In 1999, I started getting a 20" Zildjian China Cymbal signed by the world's greatest drummers, percussionists and teachers of drums all for the purpose of sharing who they are and were to my drum students....since few young players have a clue who the great drummers of the music business actually are. I have collected about 140 plus signatures of the some 300 to 500 world class drummers out there...from Louie Bellson to Elvin Jones, Jack DeJohnette, Steve Gadd, Jim Capaldi, Jim Keltner, Airto, Trilok Gurtu, Bill Bruford, Alan White to Earl Palmer, Sonny Emory, Russ Kunkel and so many more. My students have all benefitted by going on youtube or Drummerworld and checking all of their drum styles out and it has changed their approach to playing their instrument. Collecting things leads to positive outcomes especially if you are collecting worthwhile things.

Thanks man. I've enjoyed all of your videos. Not just as a bass player but as a human being. Keep it on. We are all on this together.

I watched this with raised finger and forwarded the mental image to your minds inbox. As you no doubt saw, I was sitting on the toilet at the time executing my morning constitutional. I thank you kindly for the wonderful content, delivered in your relaxing tone & tenor, so inspirational during these challenging times.

When I met you in Lausanne on 2016, my boyfriend took a pic of you, and me next to you. I never dared to ask for the finger 😅 I regret now 😊 Nice story though ! Take care of you and yours 🤗

I hope you'll say to my question... "Yea, yea, of course I do" and then flip me off. But you said you had "all these photos on a hard drive". Not drives. Please tell me you have them backed up to at least two additional locations. A 2nd hard drive and a 3rd off-site location, e.g. in the Cloud. Yea, I'm an IT guy and my brain just has to double check. Can't help it. Thanks for all the great vids, tunes and stories! You're awesome!

I sure hope he sees your comment & that, if he doesn't already have 2 backups as you suggested, that he takes the advice & does so. I would love to see this book come about, but I don't know how the rights to pictures/permission to use pictures you've taken of other people even gets worked out.

I took that to mean that in addition to wherever he stores them, he also has collected them into one file or series of files for the purpose of selecting what goes in the book....

I was lucky enough to be in that collection when I met Leland in Vegas at the Latin Grammy awards in 2011 or 2012 I believe. What a great musician and storyteller. Love these videos!

For over 40 years my family has always deadpan flipped the bird at each other as we drive away from visiting each others houses instead of waving goodbye. The neighbours must think we truly despise each other
Just discovered your channel and love watching it! From Australia

I love our little chats. The way you do the finger is the way they do it in the south. In Jersey the middle finger is straight up, all other fingers curled up in the palm and secured with the thumb. The finger you did we called the BIRD down here in Jacksonville, Fl., home of the greatest southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd. Come down here I'll take you on the Skynyrd tour. When angry people try to give me the finger, I don't look so I never received the finger and that pisses them off.
