Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls... listen to his every word. Carefully. This man is pure genius and yet as kind as your grandmother... probably kinder. He is an AMAZING human being. All the love in the world!
Just as enjoyable without playing. I imagine I'm one of many who check this every day- not only for the wit and heart you're sharing, but the care and kindness in your continuity in doing this. Take care.
Been amazed and inspired by your genius and style since the late 70s. Heard you first back when you were doing something with Rit or Carlton and you were going by “Lee Sklar” , and have never let you out of earshot since. Thank you very much for showing us musicians how it’s done. You plus any track you are on, Sir.
Now this Jazz Bass is really the most beautiful piece of Artwork I have ever seen on a Musical Instrument... It reminds me of a 1962 Jazz Bass with a Bad Ass Bridge that was for sale in a small Music Store in Danbury, Conn. back in the mid 80's... The price was 600.00 back then. It was stripped down and stained Walnut. What a Beauty... You are so GREAT Lee........
I never would have thought that the daily video log of a living bass legend would brighten my days during a global quarantine, but here we are... Thanks immensely, Mr Sklar, and all the best from Europe!
For those of you watching on a whim, this is the greatest/luckiest bass player alive, based on the talent he has played behind and made better because of it. He is a child of the sun.
Thank you Mr. Sklar for the great music and great stories. Hope the recovery from your rose bush attack will be speedy and you can get back to playing bass again...
I met BB King a few years ago working a concert. I was just a local stagehand, but damned if he did not shake EVERY local's hand after the show. The NICEST man.
I wish if those instruments could tell the stories. Oh, wait! We have You Sir, telling us amazing stories, with amazing names. Thank You for sharing. We deeply appreciate it.
Lee, your content is amazing and definitely keeps lots of good people going through these hard times. Keep up the great work it’s valued by me and many many others judging by the comments. 👍🏼
Thank you for bringing us on your life’s journey. You have made me feel real comfortable and I’m old. Take care and your life and songs have been a pleasure.
I so love when you reminisce about your early days and like so many, you started out with an Echo bass, then what it a scuffle it was to come up with $90.00 to purchase your 62' jazz, my first bass was a Hofner, which my folks bought me after we watched The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show, they were by no means in a financial position to spend that kind of money on an 11 year old boy with the attention span of a rock but they took a chance and as they say, the rest is history... thank you Lee for sharing your memories with us and P.S. thanks for turning me on to DINGWALL...I love it!!!
Lee is the consummate listener whose tasteful playing elevates everyone else’s playing. It’s obvious it’s the same with his interactions with people in general. A total class act.
Thank you Leland for your Kindness and Sharing and Caring I Love the Gear and I am a Bass player/ CNA .God Bless You Wear Gardening Gloves Your Hands are Your Greatest asset for Bass Peace &Blessing My friend 👍🙏❤

I like the look and sound of that unique Jazz Bass or yours. We all appreciate the close look at your gear, and all the super interesting stories that they are a part of. Positive Vibrations
You're a noble-minded person ... I wish you all the best in the world Mr. Sklar, I can't wait to go back to listening to you, your music makes people better.
I’ve always said, “Every project deserves a new tool, and no job is complete until you bleed on it.” Sorry about the finger, but don’t worry about us-we’ll listen to stories while it heals. Take care. Stay home...stay safe...save lives!
Ok, I love the carved up J-bass! And at this point in your life I don’t think anyone is going to doubt that BB King signed your bass! Lol! You’re as much of a legend as the artists you’ve played for, if not more so. And today I have a splinter in the end of the exact same finger
The first time I got to talk to you Lee was when Wolfgang was playing a benefit at Elysian Park in a L.A. and you showed me that bass. I used to hang out at the old POP pier in Venice and Wolfgang was rehearsing at Blue Whale rehearsal studios that was under the pier. That was a great time in music. Keep speaking your mind!!!!
I was fortunate to see B B King perform live at the Adler Theater in Davenport, IA some years back. It was prior to 1994, because I was with my first husband who died in mid-1994. What a wild night that was! There were 3 young women sitting a few rows in front of us, and they were tugging on a flask during the entire performance, and their dancing in place got wilder and wilder as the night wore on. Oh my goodness, such a fond memory for me. I hope you read these comments, Lee, as I have tons of stories for you. . .all true, too. I’ve followed your career for decades! Hope your finger gets better. You’re a musician, so protect your hands! ❤️ Love from Iowa ❤️ Lori Parrish Niemi Euphonic Studio, LLC Mount Vernon, Iowa
Amazing to hear that you were a big zappa fan. So am I and i got to zappa after I became a Phil Fan and looking at the One size fits all album, reading that Chester played drums on this one. So I bought it and after listening to Inca roads....that got me hooked. And now i am amazed that not only chester has a link to zappa but you have too. Keep your videos coming. They are really appreciated. Stay healthy and all the best.
From what we know of you the BB King's 80th birthday gig was definitely where you should have been and I would have loved to be in the audience or just a plain old fly on the wall grooving to what went down there on that night. Never talk yourself down Lee, you are one of the greats and your contribution to music is legendary.
Leland, thanks a lot for sharing with us all your knowledge. I think this is very important for young players just as me. I admire you a lot, and you are a great inspiration for me. i've been playing in a band for 5 years (since i was 18) and my love for bass will only increase. Thanks a lot again, Greetings from Argentina!
Leland, I am more than excited to be the proud new owner of one of your EA iAmp800s. It’s in transit to the East Coast right now. Cannot wait.. It’s a gift to myself for working long hours on the front lines in the ER during this time that no one is gigging out. Nice to have a side gig in health care I guess. I’m hoping to make it through this ordeal safely and be able to play through your amp and do it justice. I will cherish it. Through my 30 years as an “accidental” bassist, I have amassed an arsenal of bass gear ( SVT, Edens, Ashdown, Genz Benz, SWR, & Aguilar to name a few). I have found my rigs are getting smaller as I’m getting older! Your iAmp 800 may top them all. You have influenced me musically for my entire life. My style is simpatico with yours, giving the song what it needs and feeling good about it.” No shame in a whole note” as you say. I’m not a chops guy by any means, nor do I need to be. I just wanted to say thanks for the music and for you to know that your amp is going to a good home where it will get some love and use. Suggestions for a cabinet match? Thanks again Leland, ‘ Jeremy Bone ( Runaway Cab)
Iv'e seen that beard in countless videos. With Collins, Clapton, and Toto too? So come to find out that he does this youtube stuff as well. I am glad. Thanks man. I realy appreciate what you do.
Leland! I love your channel! So nice to get to know you. I really appreciate your talk on gear! It's so wonderful. "Simple" things like guitar cables, straps, etc., are always nice to get an opinion on too. Thanks once again! :-)
I've been a admirer of you , your career , and your playing for years ( I'm 52 ,and have "dabbled" at playing bass since 1983). I always watch your interviews because I like where you are coming from . You never sound jaded, or bored with the subject ,and as has been proven over and over , you're a kind and humble human being first. I appreciate that in anybody. I've been lucky enough to meet some of my bass heroes ( won't hold my breath on getting to meet Geddy!) Victor Wooten & Steve Bailey ( wonderful people) , Nick Beggs( incredibly funny) and Michael Manring ( one of the kindest, gracious , soft spoken, humble men I have ever met....you remind me of him). I've been catching up on your channel, since now there's time ,and have enjoyed them all.... maybe some day I'll cross paths, and can add you to my list. Thanks for everything, keep up the good work.
Thanks for sharing! I didn't know you were a Mother's fan. I have followed your playing for MANY years (starting with James Taylor and also including the TV project you did with Dweezil and Ahmed). I love hearing you play and your videos!
A few years ago I had an 86!japanese power jazz bass, one nigh under influence of substance a got a knife and scratched up the whole body then painted it with pastels then sealed it with hair spray. It used to be metallic banana . Still got it and it’s back to normal now
Hi Leland. I don't know if you recall, but you came over to my apt for dinner with Gabi when you had a gig with Judith at the Iridium in NYC a few years ago. I've FB problems myself. Anyhow, it's wonderful to see you. Stay safe and healthy. All the best. Scott.
Lee has played with *everybody*. Amazing to listen to him speak about it, and his nonchalance about it, also surreal. I guess, by 1971 or so his playing had been featured on numerous albums by Taylor and King that had sold over 10,000,000 units each; so not hard to be matter of fact about anything that came after that.
I gotta tell you, I have been a working musician since 1983, and have (as I'm sure you have) met a ton of "name" musicians that seem to have forgotten that fame doesn't always mean you're the cat's ass. My absolutely favorite thing about the music industry, more than performing, more than recording, more even than the creation, is when I find heroes having heroes. After all these years and all of those names, there are still musicians that turn you into a 16 year old kid going. "Oh, my God, that's. ...." Keep rocking
Lee, you are a true story teller and you could really fit into the Griot culture from Africa. You are telling history by telling your stories... ...and this Bass!!!
My dad has a vintage Fender hybrid bass. It is a relic. And it has ha shadow in the paint on the back of the body. That is from the previous owner tapin' his set list on the back
Lee I sure have missed you. Glad I found you. I dumped my Facebook account years ago and when I was active I sure loved your channel especially your warm birthday wishes. No that I've relocated you I have much content to catch up on. Peace. Your friend Wiley.
I found it telling (and touching) when you admitted you'd liked to have replaced John Paul Jones some years back. What a resumé though. Tasteful and wise gentleman.

He doesnt need a picture of BB king signing his bass. Everybody would believe him anyway. (=
