Thanks for the shout out Leland. "Don't Lose My Number" is one of my favourite videos of all time, never mind the ones Jim Yukich and I did for just Phil and Genesis! It was a lot of fun to make in Australia. BTW George Miller didn't help us with the Road Warrior segment, that was Dean Semler our Director of Photography/Cameraman who also DP'ed the Road Warrior movie (later he won an Oscar for "Dances With Wolves."). I am glad you let people know how hard Phil works at his craft - Genesis too! Stay safe!
As a bassist myself, there is no one in the music business that would aspire to emulate more than you, Mr Sklar. You are a bassists bassist. Your lines are always so perfectly tasteful and solid. Not flashy but simply perfect for the song. I enjoy your conversations with your RUclips audience as well.
Just saw the documentary "The Immediate Family". This song really gripped me, watching Leland Sklar perform magically. Now revisiting a lot of LP's stored in the basement. Such good music back then.
Leland Sklar you are a master, watched lots of live videos ot concerts with Phil and been to live concerts with you and Phil, these live events are a forever memory. Many thanks. Who was not there in live event, won't believe.
How lucky I am. My idol is in my living room and He is showing me that how He played these songs. Which I tried to learn and play last 20+years. Thank You Sir. God Bless You.
Suddenly found this on RUclips and thought , yes I recognize him,I'll have a look. Well I've watched 4 or 5 now, what a lovely, intelligent guy and his Bass skills are brilliant. A real joy to watch, stay well and safe.
This, folks, is the reason Leland is on so many amazing records and tours. He's the whole package. To hear the story about the tree shows what type of person he is. And his groove, tone and vibe are so on point it's just a pleasure to watch. Leland, I'll always remember the time you and I had a slice of pizza across the street from NAMM in Anaheim. So good!
Thanks Lee - I play bass in the Phil Collins Experience with Dean Edwards (Deano) as the 'Phil'. I've studied your bass lines with great interest but, it's great to hear them 'raw' and the little different nuances and licks, that have evolved - a great inspiration (and education) for me. I also play a Dingwall (ABZ 5) which I really love; punchy, warm and clear - the business! I'm really happy that you're doing these vids for us; I'll be tuning in daily (pun, incidental). Thanks again and 'let's be careful out there' as Michael Conrad once said. Kindest regards, Chris.
Mr. Sklar seems like a very nice person. Very tasteful bass work. I really like how it shows how locked in and aware he is with the drums and percussion, but also how he weaves around the vocals and finds the perfect places to tuck in and not sit in front of anything.
That machine sounds amazing! It's so good to see and hear you hanging and banging . It's going to be okay someday. Your video showing your equipment and theirstories made my day that day. Continue cranking, and remaining safe as you can,so we can see and hear more of your truly great stories and music. Let's go check on the neighbors. See yo tomorrow.
Someone please pick my jaw up from the floor!!! What an incredible oportunity to hear a legend play it like he always did... Mr Sklar.. Thank you so much!!
I love you dearly as a person first and as a musician who lets your personality impact your music. Your sweet vibe is unmistakable. You are like Ringo. I know who is in the mix.Thank you for you.
Thank you so much for this, my whole life I have watched you pop up all over the industry but have never heard you speak. This is just really great stories and your amazing playing. In this time....I couldn't have asked for a better thing to watch, enjoy and learn from. Thank you again.
I think this was the last thing I expected to find from YT during these times but definitely one of the best surprises. Could watch your playing all day. Long live Mr. Sklar!
Cool shirt. Well done! Wow it is heartbreaking to see a grand old tree fallen. Thanks again for the videos. Love your perspective on the music and life in general.
Thank you for this Leland. Back in '92 I used to play this on constant repeat, close my eyes, sit behind my drum kit and imagine myself playing drums with you and Phil on the Seriously, Live! tour.
Hi, Leland. I have always admired your playing. I've always loved GENESIS, Phil and your contribution. I met Phil on Maui in about '81. Your stage presence is the definition of cool! Keep on truckin'!
I’m so glad to see this guy has a RUclips!! I remember him from all those Phil Collins live performance videos from the 80s til now!! What a legend, his discography of artists he’s played with is huge too
Mr. Sklar: Thank you so much for sharing your experiences and musical insights with us. I work in a very different field of music, but I have always been a great admirer of your artistry. I also appreciate your spirit of community and sharing with us duriing this crazy time. I enjoy following you here and on your Facebook page.
It’s incredible! 3 simple requests: wear a mask, wash your hands, social distance. I’m in India. Yesterday, I got “My mask keeps falling off”, “I’m not sick, I don’t need one”, “oh, I forgot to put it on”. You are a legend. As a TV music editor, I had the honor of hearing you in some sessions in the early 80’s. It’s a real pleasure to hear you in this video. Thanks, keep safe.
You never screw up while playing Lee .... we should be thankful you are putting up these priceless videos and sharing these wonderful anecdotes ... Thank you ! I wake ip each morning looking forward to these videos ..just makes my day ! Thank you 🙏🏻 !
Leland I want to just wish you a beautiful Easter Sunday...I'm honored to able to follow you and your escapades. My best to you, Maureen and the pups...you keep my smilin' and happy...
Leland, I am 53 years old, and a musician....altho no where near the skill level of you. Just when I think music, talent wise, is dead....YOU put out kick ass videos like this. I remember these songs when you recorded them,, and its so nice to see you rocking and so full of wisdom at 72. My friend, hearing your stories of "Phil" was so refreshing. Many more years of health, happiness and stellar bass playing for you!!!
Ohhhhh mannnn ... can’t get enough of this... im almost crying here man.. (happy tears) ... leland... by doing this videos and little stories you’re making a lot of people VERY happy (obviously including myself).... thank you!!! Much respect and appreciation!!!🤘🏻😎
It is so nice to see you out here my friend, I’ve known of you for many years and finally I get to find out that you are American and not English like I originally thought. I look up to you and I’m so happy to see you making videos out here. Keep up the good work. ( ^_^. )
I myself have been playing for a long time. And this is great. Every note spot on, perfect timing and less is more. It's so refreshing to hear this old fashioned craftsmenship agains all the fancy stuff and note-diarhrea I come across on youtube. Great you still do this, mr Sklar.
I love these videos, it is wonderful that you are sharing your insights to working with PC & others. Being able to watch you play a whole song is fantastic! Stay safe & thanks again. Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺
I’m glad I’m not the only one that feels that my playing tightens up when I’m beside the drummer. I play upright (jazz and bluegrass), and I find I play tighter (still, not as tight as you keep it) with the drummer right beside me, as opposed to playing with a recording. Very cool to see what you do in some of these parts. Take care, stay safe!
Hi Leland! I grew up with your music, thanks for giving a little of your soul and of course for making these videos, it's great to see you playing music. Greetings from Chile!
Love the way you enjoy playing the bass you where Born to do this, Awesome!! just awesome. Thank you!! Always a pleasure to see you playing. Take good care of yourself too yes.
Thank you for doing all that you are doing. I saw the not dead yet tour in feb in Melbourne, AUS. listening to you going through the list of the songs that was performed in the show, it’s like being in that concert all over again and what a concert that was Wow. Amazing. Keep rocking. God bless.
I just love the way you do these daily things. This song must be one of your favourites, the joy you have playing this just radiates. I (think I) know how it feels, that's how I work too. I play anything and really enjoy playing those tunes, but the favourites are just that little bit more enjoyable. Great work.
True Legend! I Played this song and Sussudio (among others) as Lullabies (Volume was not to high anyway...) to my then born Daughter (1985) hoping to play with her some day...she turned to be a great Pianist then left the Piano and became a Doctor... now here in Italy (as all Doctors in all the World) she is in the middle of a storm...and especially now I remember often that times ..
Hello Leland - I must say that I have admired your work for decades. Just a note to say thank you for sharing your talent with so many different acts over the years. Be well and stay healthy!
Hi Leland, that was your best performance so far! Not that every day is a beauty contest but I just felt you nailed this tune perfectly in this format. Please keep it up. You are such an inspiring and life wise person. Jeez I would resist if I were in your place ..... Joakim, a Swede currently in Kenya .... also a drummer. PS. A Collins fave of mine is 'It don't matter to me'
Thanks you so much for doing this! I've admired your playing for .... decades. Pure joy virtually hanging with you and just what I needed right about now.
Hello Leland. I love your videos, specially when you start to describe details from the show, that we can easily feel your mind traveling back years to this specifically show that comes back in your mind. I am sure any of us out here would love to hear your stories all day long. Please Keep it up and God bless you.
I spent the last few weeks learning this song and making my own play along. Such a fun one, thanks for making this video and sharing stories about the song!
Thank You for taking the time to reach out to all of us. You are a good man and a great humanitarian. Stay safe and thanks for the great music. You keep it real.
Listening to those Bass-Lines remembers me being a young child, teaching myself to play drum like Phil Collins and Guitar like Daryl while watching seriously Live in Berlin on repeat. The Beard of Bass is awesome! I love your videos. Not only have you walked among the gods of music, you still have a passion for music. You are a true inspiration!

You are a bassists bassist. Your lines are always so perfectly tasteful and solid. Not flashy but simply perfect for the song.
I enjoy your conversations with your RUclips audience as well.
Exactly
Sklar, Levin and Vega are my big inspirations. The best of the best make me pay attention to the notes they *don’t* play.
Lee certainly has great feel for the low end
You haven't met Rick Robertson, but damn, Leland can play!
Ditto. Same here. I really look forward to your posts, Mr. Sklar.
So appreciate you sharing your uniqueness and amazing talent. You inspire me as a new bassist player learning at 70. Never too late eh
The world is somehow way less fucked up with Leland here.
Never realized how cool the bass line was on this song. That's BAD ASS!!!
