- Metal detecting along the treasure coast of Florida. There is no greater thrill then finding gold & silver along the beach, but to hold an object that hasn't been held for over 300 years would make anyone pause to think. It was a great pleasure doing this video for Terry & Jean and I thank you both for allowing me access into your private collection and the stories behind there discoveries.
Bracelet was Robert Abercromby 1731-1738. London. Was a master at Salver crafting. Mostly intricate treys. I've done a bit of treasure hunting as well. Many years living in keys. Beautiful bracelet and possibly the only one left. Nice job.
Mr. Shannon you are so amazing and I could listen to your stories for hours. Actually I’m binge watching all your videos right now! Love it!
I'm in love with this old guy. He seems so nice and love the history of stuff too. Would be cool to just hear his stories
+crumb9cheese Thank you. I have been told that I have lots of stories but then you have to remember I have been around a while. Good luck out there Terry

Thank you for your kind words Patrick, we enjoy a wonderful hobby. Wish you the best of luck. Terry
Hello Mr. Shannon. I've been detecting around that area too. Think it's the radar wreck, where recently the silver Montrose plates were found. Could be the resting spot of the concepcion?

Thanks Terry, Jean and Jerry for the great stories and knowledge in these videos. Get some more going, I'm subscribed for sure.
We had another video ready to go but we are having trouble with the sound so I'm hoping we will have another one soon. TTerry
Sweet! Thanks.
You are correct about holding that piece Of history! I’m addicted to metal detecting . I’m going to subscribe to you
Really cool finds! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for sharing your videos. We have learned a lot from them.
We just recently started being more serious about metal detecting. Coming to the beaches of Florida near your area, in a couple weeks. We are so excited.
We live north of Atlanta in a well known indian area. And live in a older home. We have found a few relics in our yard. But today, we found a 1863 indian head penny. What a thrill...
Carolyn an Indian head penny was the first old coin I found and I still remember the thrill . It and the Spanish reales are my very favorite coins. Good luck, it's an amazing hobby. Terry
Thank you so much for commenting. I am really excited.
Look forward to combing the beaches next week. Friends are coming with us.
Terry , we have found some things on the beach where we are but is there a place we can take it here to have it looked at.
@@carolynwilkins6678 did you find out what you got? I know it’s been a few years.
Just Amazing ❤
Thank You Mr. Shannon 💟😃👍
Soooooo interesting. I'm from FL and have been up and down the east coast beaches as far back as the 50's. But no detector back then. Have two now and live in up-State NY on a lake. No body to hunt with and new at this hobby. Really enjoy you're vids.
Thank you, I'm sure you will do well. I have never found anything that even comes close to the enjoyment I get from detecting. The very best of luck to you. Terry
Are you still hunting!? I’m in Upstate too!
Incredible and I agree, fascinating. There's nothing like hands on history.
I'm new in detecting, but am already hooked. Everytime, the possibility of treasure.
Happy Hunting and thanks for sharing :-)

I can't believe the coincidence of what happened to me regarding this video... I'm vacationing in Melbourne, I'm on the beach when a guy starts to walk past me with his shouldered detector... I ask him if I can ask him a couple questions about detecting the area.. He's extremely nice and informative, but I'm having a case of déjavu while talking to him... Upon parting ways, he tells me to check out a video he's associated with... I play on the beach for a few more hours, before returning to the rental house... Something still nagging at me about our conversations... I decide to check out the video and it hits me like a ton of bricks... I had watched the video a couple weeks prior to going on vacation, it was what made me throw my detector in the car... The person I was talking to on the beach is the same Person in the video doing the interview... Thanks a second time for the good advice... This world is so small, it sometimes amazes you!! Mike from Illinois.. :)
michael schram Thanks for the kind words Mike. You are right it is a very small world. I'm back in Minnesota and hope to do some detecting soon. Jerry is the expert with a camera and together we hope to make more videos.
Terry Shannon :)
***** Hi Jerry, I'm now at home from the vacation... It really was cool getting to talk to you.. Here's a little more info on my trip.. I bought a sand scoop on-line for my trip to Melbourne for detecting.. Shipper took to long to ship it out, and it arrived late on the day we left to head on our trip (we left at 5 a.m.), so I had no scoop to use. The evening before we were to leave Melbourne to return home, I got a chance to use the detector, so I took it to the beach at low tide and detected on the waters edge where a large pocket of shells were gathering.. I got a Perfect silver tone and reading from my Minelab Explorer 2 (after an hour of sweeping).. I had to dig ( in between and during waves) to about a foot deep.. (you know what it's like digging a hole with your bare hands at the edge of low tide, dig for three seconds then wave fills the hole back up and you detect to see if the item is still in the hole) I chased the silver coin (I got to see the shape and color of it three times over the course of an hour) the whole time tide was rising... I chased it all over a 100 square foot area during that time... It was larger than a quarter but a little smaller than a half dollar, it was perfectly round... I collect silver coins, and I'm sure it wasn't a US coin... I never got to see a clear view of the image of the coin.. A huge wave swamped the Explorer, I had to run back to the house and get my backup fisher cz6 and found the signal a few more times, chasing it for another 20 minutes before water became too deep to continue my search... .... .... You want to talk about disappointing... :( FUN-YES :) , but still the outcome will haunt me forever.... :) Where you seen me on the beach, I was 1/4 mile to the north... Jerry, thanks again... We really anticipate moving in your direction someday.. If you don't mind, I'd like to look you up when that happens... :) Mike

Thanks again and no problem at all ..
You are really a teacher for many of us ✌🏽
Outstanding video. And here I thought that I knew history and people ask me questions!!!!!!! The gentleman in this production (Terry I believe) has some years on me and has inspired me to continue to search the white sands. Going to Florida next month to visit and plan to hit the Port Malabar area. Not sure if I'm spelling that right.
I can't tell you how much enjoyment I've gotten over the past several months watching and re-watching your video's...(originally took lot's of notes!) - I'm semi-retiring end of '17, leaving Boston, hoping to live in the Vero Beach area. My kids are adults, divorced, just me. Gettin a couple dogs, a Whites Surf PI Dual Field detector and headin down. Like you said in one of your videos, "you got the fever" - well, I can't think of a more enjoyable way to spend my time then on this new hobby I've stumbled upon. (no pun intended). God bless and keep on makin the videos as you have time. by the way, it must have really warmed your heart the day the young man came up to you on the beach and said "excuse me sir, are you Terry Shannon" ? ....you're a You Tube Star !!! Thanks for all you've taught me and for taking time to share your expertise with your viewers- you are a good man.
Thank you Joe you are very kind. I wish you well in your retirement and hope we meat on the beach someday. I sometimes get as far south as Vero so there is a good chance we will meet someday. Also we have a club that meets monthly here is a link to our web site tcas.us/ Hope you can join us. Terry

First off I apologize for taking so long to reply, I somehow missed your comment. I thank you for your kind word, best of luck. Terry
made my whole evening hearing from you😀 hope your still swinging the detector!
I'm still out there swinging. I have had a great fall so far, I recovered a bunch of musket balls, a one reale and I got a ring the predates the 1715 Spanish Fleet. I hope your doing well. Good luck Terry
glad to hear Terry, im a huge fan👍😀
Terry thanks again..GREAT INFO...and Love your Passion..
Hope to purchase my First Detector this Winter..... Like to hear your thoughts on Types of Detectors...
MIKE
Mike that is a hard question to answer. If there is a club near you I would talk to some of the members to see what they use. If you hunt the beach especially the wet sand you need a multi frequency detector. If you're a land hunter most detectors will do the job. Watching detecting videos is a great way to learn and it appears you're doing just that. I wish you the best of luck. Terry
again congrats on all your finds and a big wow awesome
I'm pretty late in thanking you but I certainly appreciate your kind comments Terry
This is an amazing video - thanks for taking the time to do this!
Thank you for your kind words. Terry

Awesome video!! Looking forward to more videos! What are the odds for me to find a reale along the treasure coast? I would love to metal detect there! Keep up the work! Good luck!
The reales are hard to come by but definitely possible. Your chance of finding one really increases after a storm or an event that cause some beach erosion. Good luck Terry
Nice just unbelievable love your finds I just hit a un detected beach here in Ct and found numerous coins my oldest silver was a beautiful 1776 2 Reale I was stunned!
I also found a flintlock pistol washed up dated 1700’s

Hello Mr Terry,I like your videos.I have a Garret 300,but I just found coins with this machine.Do you have any tips to find jewlery on a beach?
In the dry sand they have what is called a towel line it's where people lay their towels. they often take of their jewelry when they go swimming and forget them and they are lost when they shake the sand out of the towel. On the wet sand look for low places where the sand has been washed out. The hardest ring to find is that first one. They will come. Terry
I looked at two of Terrys videos, this was a bible , more than a short cut to beach detecting, and the respect he shows for past history,it shows m.d. is for all ages, keeps us young , fit, and respect. To were ever one detects by taking the scrap away, and keep a good name for m.d.
Thank you Binney John, It's guys like you that make it all worth while. Terry
Very exciting - I am just finding you on youtube. How did you clean the reales?
There are several ways that work. I have found the best way is to soak them in ammonia over night and then put them in a rock tumbler with aquarium gravel and dawn dish soap. Final polish just make a paste with baking soda and rub it. Hope this helps Terry
Hi Terry, that's a great video . A quick question for a beginner what would be a good detector for a new starter ?
I recommend the Garrett AT pro for a starter machine. I have one and really like it. Good Luck Terry
@@terryshannon2991 I've heard that the Garrett ace 300 is also good.
great video, great folks in the video. I have to say though, the santeria oar looks exactly like the ones sold in botanica's down here in miami, and which we find on the beaches today, put there by folks who practice santeria currently. I don't know that the one in this video is not 300 years old, but it seems to me that it's likely to be a much more recent relic than that.
I have seen some of the modern ones and the ones I have seen are usually of a lighter metal but you never know It's all guess work. Thanks for the reply Terry
typically, the modern ones in the Miami area are lead, though I did find one key that was identical to the lead one I have, except that it was plated pot metal.
Great video. I am going to be in Naples Florida for a week in July. Does Florida or Naples have any metal detecting laws I should be aware of?
I'm sorry that I didn't reply in time to be of any help. I had a real busy summer and neglected my computer time. I hope you had a great trip. Terry

i just want to know if it is legal or not to metal detect in florida beaches?
All but the federal beaches north of the cape can be detected from the low tide line to the dunes. About 5 miles north of Sebastian inlet north you can detect in the water as far as I know. Good luck. Terry
This is all fine and good but every beach that I have ever visited, and that number is in the hundreds, has had signs saying that metal detectors are not allowed. I recently moved to Florida and that includes here as well. So I am guessing that this hobby is only for wealthy people who own their own beaches.
What area are you in? I definitely don’t want to move there! 😐

I keep hearing all this nonsense back and forth no one has any clear definitive answers about the laws of metal detecting in the water in Florida whether it's against the law or not.ive never had a yone say anything to me except in west palm beach on singer island more specifically it was right in front of a hotel a guy came out and said that there was some wreck diving going on somewhere around there and because of that you're not able to go into the water I think the guy was bullshtting me
