Glad you enjoyed the video, @falloutpropguy. I tried to include a few interesting facts about Spanish Colonial Coins in the show and the credits at the end of the video provide sources for more information!😀
Don - I'm a little late seeing this fine educational work you put together; seriously, well done! It is so easy to drift-off into fantasies about finding some treasure like that displayed here, but therein lay the real meaning of hope. Again, sorry it took me so long to find you.
Hello John! Good to be in touch. I'm glad you enjoyed the show. I included many sources for further study in the show's credits. I figured if I was going to document the GPS position of every shipwreck of the 1733 Spanish Treasure Fleet, I might as well identify and discuss a few of the coins these ships carried in their holds as well. Regards, Don
Thanks John! I'm glad you enjoyed the show! The KeysDiveGuide RUclips Channel is geared toward people interested in our maritime heritage like YOU! Thanks for your likes and views!
I'm glad you found the show informative, M.Lewis! I've now produced 35 FREE Shows for my KeysDiveGuide RUclips Channel! 180 dive sites throughout the Keys to locate and explore!
I've met Mel Fisher to Key-West in 1994 . We come into the bar to take a way food. À man coming ... i saw à Big man with a large smile i Said to me he look like John Wayne without long hair ans he come behind us to talk des minutes after the bardender say do You Know with who You talk ? I said no... he tell me he is Mel Fisher ! My Memory it was a Nice man he talk about Paris that he visit with his wife. We took a picture with my French friends ans its Big émeraude et sa grande chaîne en or. Never Forget this moment ! I love his détermination !
I haven't a clue, user-tr2rt6zm7l. Gold Escudos were more carefully struck than Silver Cobs, but there have been known counterfeits of both. Coins without certification are viewed with suspicion by collectors. I would take the coin to Sedwick for more information and appraisal.
I don't dig or remove ANYTHING from the ocean without a state lease.....it's against the law. I relocate the wreck, take video/photos and leave only bubbles!
Check out the credits of the show Nikhil! I have listed many resources (books, internet, coin dealers) for the study and purchase of Spanish Colonial coins of all types! Thanks for your interest!
You know a trick I use to clean any silver, in a pot on the stove a roughly screwed up aluminum that's been sort of stretch to cover bottom of pot, put silver in making sure it's covered with water....when really hot add 2 teaspoons of Baking Soda and watch it bubble, if it's a big pot kind of do the math
why would the pillars on the back of the coin represent the Pillars of Hercules? Wouldn't the the Very Catholic Spanish put the pillars of the temple of Solomon on their coins??
Look it up for yourself, manuelkong. The Pillars represent the Pillars of Hercules. I tried to show what every inscription on the Pillar Dollar coins meant to the best of my research. The Catholics in Spain back then were just a pack of hypocrites. They didn't really care that two civilizations, the Mayan and the Incan, were completely wiped out by the Spanish. As long as the crooked church got its 10% of the Spanish-stolen gold and silver, the Catholic Church could care less about the Mayans and Incans.
Would like that too Bill Staf! Currently I have family considerations that have kept my nose to the grindstone! Hopefully I'll get down to the Keys in late spring 2020. Are you on FB? If so like and follow my Keys Dive Guide FB Page and friend me at my Don Ferguson (personal) FB Page!
Perhaps, Ronald. I would need to see it. Is it a Cob coin? Cob coins were so irregular it is difficult to tell the year or even if it is a fake by sight. The best ID is a certificate as to the wreck from which the coin was recovered.
The term "rough as a cob" had nothing to do with Spanish treasure coins. It originated as a result of early Americans using corn cobs in place of our modern toilet paper. :)
+Ralph Bryant Hello Ralph! Have you ever felt a dried corncob? Rub one against your tough palm and it might draw blood! How this silly urban myth got started, I don't know. My Parents and Grandparents used old Sears Catalogs to wipe. Anyone stupid enough to use a corncob to wipe their butt certainly walked around with a bleeding anus!
Your comment that Spain mades slaves and stole the gold and silver is the typical Black legend of history. Study some history instead of distorting it in your video.
Hello, @MADEROGIROD. I've extensively studied the history of the Spanish destruction of the Mayan and Incan civilizations. I stand by my comments in the video that the Spanish enslaved the Mayan and Incan people and stole their gold and silver. The Spanish were vicious barbarians. In addition, the crooked leaders of the Catholic Church could not have cared less if the Spanish murdered or enslaved thousands of Native Americans as long as they got 10% of the stolen silver and gold brought back to Spain from the New World. Unknowingly the Spanish brought European diseases to the Mayans and Incans, which wiped out more Native Americans than were killed on the battlefields.
@@KeysDiveGuide maybe time to revisit the history books, the Mayan civilization was gone when the Spanish arrive. When people moved from continents the different diseases spread, from Asia to Europe, from Europe to Asia, to America, from Africa and so on. The Mexica and the Incas had slaves, and the Spanish crown protected the rights of the indigenous people. Spain builds hospitals, universities, cities, legal structure and integrated with the locals. I am born in Mexico and have travel all over Hispano-America and US. The only place where the Indians where exterminated or placed in reservoirs was in NA. I recommend Hugh Thomas as good historian in English.
The Spanish had cannon, rifles, pistols and the gunpowder to fire these weapons, @MADEROGIROD . The Native Americans were easy for the Spanish to conquer. Do you actually believe all the gold and silver the Spanish stole from the Native Americans was given up without a fight? Furthermore, there is no telling what we could have learned from all the Native American documents destroyed by the Spanish.
@@KeysDiveGuide one cannot judge history 500 years ago with today’s standards. I don’t want to argue just recommend you read Hugh Thomas if you’re interested in the real history of the fascinating history of the first globalization of humanity. If you read spanish I can recommend other books. All the best and good luck
Best wishes to you as well,@@MADEROGIROD. I will look Hugh Thomas up and read some of his material. I'm always interested to learn a different point of view from my own. Thanks for the recommendation.
