Hey Matt thanks so much for the work it took to put this together for us all man . Stellar job bro ! It's stories like this that truly keep the dream alive ! And what a way to share the history. Thanks again .
Excellent interview! He is so humble I’m sorry he lost his mom and maybe that’s why you found it. But I’m excited for him. I wish him luck and I hope he finds more keep on digging!
Sorry to hear about your mom Jim. I lost my sister on my birthday. When I was a teenager back in the 70’s I bought a cheap metal detector at Radio Shack. I searched around the sidewalks in the apartment complex I lived in in Kingsport Tn. I found enough silver coins to pay for that detector twice over. I was hooked. Not long after that I got married and moved to southwest Virginia. My father-in-law and I were digging a hole for my power pole for my mobile home. I look down and thought that was a silver dollar laying there. I was wrong. It was an 8 Reales silver coin, 1829. I did the research of who lives there and it’s so happen to be a confederate who is log cabin hadn’t been burned down in 1864.. they burned him out because he had shot a union soldier so the union soldiers retaliated and burned his place down with him in it. I never gave this much thought until I found a spot down close to the river where I found six union soldiers uniform buttons in a row. I had found a grave of that union soldier.
They sell cheap versions of these coins at the gift shop by the bridge to the beach near where I live we buy a few hundred every year before tourist season starts and scatter them all over the popular beach accesses and when we see these old folks with the metal detectors we follow them and throw the coins in front of their path it’s great fun

8:35 when he reaches to pick up the piece. There is another one just at the base of his palm sticking up out of the sand. About 2-3 inches below the piece before he grabs it again. Visible before but a good marker to see it
