I love your use of the twig! There is an apple tree across the street but in the absence of my walking over there and crossing the muddy ditch 😅 I got a chop stick and sharped it with the pencil sharpener, another option is a bamboo skewer if that doesn’t work.
It is so helpful hearing you talk about the paint consistency and how creamier paint behaves vs more liquid. It forces me to pay more attention to what I am doing and consider more carefully the effect/s I am going for. I now have a more solid grasp on runs, cauliflowers, streaking, etc. Thank you for these videos.
I really enjoy your videos, Karen. So many techniques! Watercolors are a daunting medium for the faint of heart. You make it all seem so doable. Thank you! You are to watercolor painting what your fellow Brit Stuart Davies is to oils!
Karen Rice Art Channel Karen, maybe you and Stuart could team up and run a painting camp when the world returns to some semblance of normality. He lives in France. I could imagine artists wanting to get instruction in oils and watercolors.
My problem is I tend to use watercolors the same way artists use oil color (although I've never used it) in that I overwork things and am fixated on details. I enjoyed your demonstration and I'm determined, as difficult as it is for me, to simply "throw the paint down" and just be playful. I might even try adding a "weird" color to the scenario to see how that could be done. Thanks so much and since I've subscribed to your channel, looking forward to watching you at work! 🎨
Thank you! I have never seen anyone draw with an apple tree branch. A very original solution. I’ll share a technique: take three (or more or less) brushes in your hand with paint of different colors and tones (depending on the task). This way, for example, you can quickly and easily draw tree crowns.
Thank You Karen for sharing your knowledge of watercolor! I've done almost all the tutorials I can find on youtube. I'm getting better with each one I paint and having a blast doing it!
Thank you! I'm a beginner to watercolors and get nervous about making art in front of other people. When my friend and I were looking up tutorials to do together, I picked this one because it's less structured (I hate blindly copying art). I love how even you don't know how your painting will turn out! I love listening to you explain your process.
Thank you Mam for sharing your demonstration. These Your demonstrations are not only for beginners, it is also inspiring for professionals in the world. 👌👌👌
Thank you. Your videos are helping me and others get inspired during extended in-house times due to the present world situation. I just painted along with your one brush landscape video and it came out great!
I am delighted that your painting turned out well after painting along! I am so glad the videos are helping other and keeping them inspired in these stressful times in the world! :)
This is a very exciting demonstration to watch. This is what I love about abstract paintings - the broad, expressive strokes, and those slightly unanticipated blooms and bleeds. Thank you for this lovely video.
Wow! I really need to loosen up - I have always been too much of a perfectionist when it comes to detail, what a great tutorial to help me try to loosen up! I am just getting into watercolor... My channel is so many different mediums and I will be adding watercolor to it as well... your loose technique will be so hard for me to do but I am looking forward to the challenge!
Wow I absolutely love how this painting went and ended up. You have such a good eye and such expertise. I have only just found you this weeken and have tried two of your paintings, which has made it a great weekend! thank you so much.
Lovely abstract landscape! You make it look SO easy! Will definately have a try and see what happens. I am completely new to watercolour painting and am fascinated watching the picture taking shape. Thankyou.😊
Karen, I've just discovered your channel and want to thank you so much for these tutorials! I'm in love with these lovely small landscapes and can't wait to try and paint them this weekend! Also, I like the way you explain everything you do, so even a newbie like me is able to start painting with watercolours! Thank you!!!
Only a few days ago did I discover you and your teaching methods. I am the most comfortable with you because you explain clearly, work quickly and are open to the creativity that might spring forth regardless of mistakes. You are excellent for me, plus I like abstract. So glad you are here on your own channel. Oh, and hot press paper...gosh I have to try that & soon!
Hi Karen, my name is Edson, New subscriber from Brazil, thanks a lot for this real watercolor classroom. I love abstract landscape This is my first week on watercolor, I will try to do like this. Thanks!!
I need to give Saunders another try. It seems to scrape off better than Arches. Watercolor here in the desert has a different personality than most everywhere. We have very little humidity most of the year.
Hooked on your demos Karen, thank you! Have you ever tackled a forest from above? Wondering how to go about all those trees without it being a mass of green :)
Thank you so much Sarah for your comments so pleased that you like the tutorials. I haven’t attempted a forest from above, I think that would be tricky? May make a good abstract? Thanks for the suggestion happy painting :-)
Oh it’s so good! One of the best watercolor video i’v seen. So relax yet so amazingly beautiful . It’s therapeutic yet skillful. Thank you for such a good teaching!
Hi Karen I love your demos and your loose treatment of water, limited colour pallette and brushwork. Thank you for allowing us to paint and progress with you. Could you give ua a demo of Easter flowers please. Thank you
J adore 🥰 c est magnifique ; que de la douceur dans vos peintures 👍🏽merci je parle peu l anglais mais rien qu en vous regardant faire je comprends et j essaie de faire au mieux ( pas évident mais …bonne continuation ! Bien cordialement ! Anny🙋🏼♀️
just thankyou for sharing your talent and teaching so freely
I'm sure at all stages of that painting, if I were doing it, if be thinking "yep. I've ruined it". But Karen just carries on and it works.
I love your use of the twig! There is an apple tree across the street but in the absence of my walking over there and crossing the muddy ditch 😅 I got a chop stick and sharped it with the pencil sharpener, another option is a bamboo skewer if that doesn’t work.
Great suggestion thanks for sharing 😀
I don't have access to a suitable tree so thank you for the chop stick idea!
This was fun and the music was EXCELLENT!
Thank you!
