Thank you 😊
Thank you, Karen. Lovely lesson.
You are so welcome 😊
I was never a fan of abstract paintings until I watched several of your semi abstract videos. They are some of my favorite ones and I have attempted a few. I find that using the cut up store card can create amazing paintings. Thank you Karen 😊
Thank you! So pleased you like the plastic card technique 😊
Same here. I was able to create realistic grasses, and branches now
I think the more accurate term is impressionist, it's not really abstract but looks to convey sensations of light and feel.
It's also absolutely delightful 😊
Absolutely love this tutorial. What a fantastic end product.
Thank you 😊
Absolutely stunning! Sunset at low tide, reminds me of many days end spent at the beach. Happy memories ❤
Thanks Cindy 😊
Thank you Karen! I am completely inspired. I would never have attempted something like this without your tutorials. As a retiree painting freely makes life just SO good.
You are so welcome Margaret! Painting can be so rewarding and therapeutic 😊
Absolutely wonderful. I haven't painted for a while but watching this has stirred me up again ...😊

Very lovely! You create such amazing paintings with such a great variety of techniques. You inspire so many people with your tutorials. Thank you!
Thank you so much Cora! I’m hat is so lovely of you to say 💕
I am so enthralled with your technique! It’s so interesting to see how the elements of this type of art play out! The colors, placement, tilting, intuition, taking away and adding colors …just such a learning experience! Many thanks! I shared some of my art work (nothing like yours) and please know that your name was added as my inspiration!
So pleased you find this inspiring! I’m really glad you have shared your work.!😊
I'm intrigued! I always heard water colors weren't very forgiving, but I guess it's the type of paper you are using
This is fun looking. Enjoy watching your process. Thank you ❤❤❤😊
Thank you so much!
I like this abstract style of painting. It's amazing how you get such a good sky just by letting the paint run. I haven't tried it myself yet but I will be soon. I hope my skies turn out as good. 🤞😁
Thanks Bob! I love painting skies using this technique! I hope you enjoy painting using these techniques! Remember less is more 😊
One word brilliant 😊
Thank you so much 😊
Fantastic as always!
Thank you 😊
Absolutely gorgeous. I would consider trying this but, I'd be crazy to add yet another type of art when I haven't started the first one ! Lol it's all so beautiful and I just want to make beautiful things. My mother and father were fantastic artist in all different types of media, but both died very young, I sure missed out on some good training from them. Now I'm just barely starting to get into the arts at age 63. But it is what it is, and all I can do is my best.
Thanks so much for It’s never too late! Just go for it!
Super, wunderbar! 👍Vielen Dank!👏🤗
Hi Karen:

🥰 I absolutely adore this tutorial, I've learnt so much especially about with the rocks mine have a tendency to run into each other 😮
Thanks for the lesson 😍 keep up with the great work 👍

You're welcome 😊
Lovely!
Terrific tutorial Karen, thanks for sharing!!
I’m a newbie to watercolour and your abstract paintings are just so beautiful and inspiring!
I’m more of a card maker, and I loved your watercolour abstract cards too.
Much love, Ann ❤
Thank you so much Ann really pleased you enjoy these abstract tutorials :-)
very cool ❤Thank you so much
Thanks Maria!
Nice! Thank you!!!
Súper chulo ❤❤❤
Thank you!
Amazing
Thank you so much 😊
I have found if you round the corners of the cut edge of the credit card, it doesn’t score and damage the paper. You can smooth the cut with an emery board.
Great tip!
Excellent!
Thank you so much 😊
Splendide quelles couleurs avez vous utilisées merci beaucoup
Sublime….
Loce these tricks.
Thank you 😊
👌
Karen, I also tried your city landscape with credit card and I am thrilled with the result (apart from the fact that I tore the paper a bit when I took it off, still wet from the pad). I call it Credit Card City. 😂
Love that title Margaret! Thanks for sharing 😊
Hi Karen love the seascape but how do you stop the paint going on the dry horizon?
Thanks. Great question. I’m he paint will only spread to wet areas. If the paper is dry it will be protected from the paint 😊
Refrain of the sun with paper scratching technique. very effective. I really liked the understated impression of this refrain.☕(*^-^*)
Thank you 😊
🙏🙏🙏
Really lovely 😊💖 Karen would you still sell a painting which has had the paper scratched like this?
Yes, and I would include sgraffito in the description.
Dear Karen I loved your Video you explained and showed the how to paint the picture . I love your idea to paint 2 pictures just in case. Ionly have a old Bank card would that be ok to use ? Also the cutting knife I do not have a cutting knife what can I use instead?Than you for that nice picture I really enjoyed your teaching ...greetings from Christiane Berlin Germany
Thank you! An update KF bank card would be fine and you could use white paint to create the highlights instead of the craft knife 😊
Thank you ever so much... Christiane ❤️
That’s a beautiful creation, Karen, it makes me want to try one myself. Thank you for the demonstration. Have you or anyone else found a good quality folded white blank note card paper and envelope for making watercolor cards? The Strathmore ones that I bought are disappointing as the “cold press” is on a diagonal and shows up as an unwanted line. Also even the 140 lb weight will buckle if I use very much water. I’d love to see a demonstration of yours if you have a solution.
Hi Louisa, thanks for your question… Is a link to my card, making tutorial: ruclips.net/video/C0Gqb07LMKE/видео.html I like using water colour, paper, good quality and sticking it on to folded card so I don’t have to worry about the quality of the actual card. I hope this is helpful :-)
@@KarenRiceArt Thank you, Karen for this quick response. I will watch this tutorial, but I was hoping there was an already prepared card for lazy me. 🙂
Question about taping my paper. I am not liking the brand I have: residue free medium tack art tape. It pulls the paper when taking off.
Did you stretch your paper before doing your painting?
I was using a watercolour block, it really helps to prevent warping.
A glorious landscape painting, such a superb tutorial to learn from.
Is that the Loxley Heavyweight palette you're using? It looks a beauty with those deep mixing wells.
Thank you for another brilliant tutorial video on this method of abstract art. I'm not so sure about having two on the go at the same time though...
Thank you so much Mark! Yes it is the heavy weight Loxley Palette! Well spotted!!
@@KarenRiceArt Hi Karen, can x6 whole pans fit in the middle part between the two existing rows to make it hold 18 whole pans in total?
Beautiful! Karen, I never manage to paint well using the plastic card (i.e., what you do exactly at the beginning). Do you usually use tube water colors? Or do you manage also with the solid watercolor? Any suggestion? Thanks in advance!
Thanks Caterina. You may find this tutorial helpful where I demonstrate the plastic card technique: ruclips.net/video/9OGcwaQXJNM/видео.html
👏👏👏👏👏🎶📽️🖌️🎨👀
Can I use brush instead of plastic card for the first tone?
Yes of course.
Your tape may be better than mine. Mine pulls the paper.
Could I have a link to your tape?
I use lots of different washy tapes.
I buy them from Amazon, and I choose the ones with the best reviews.
Did you wet the back of the paper? How much water to start with???
I did not wet the back of the paper. I was using a watercolour block. I did spend some time wetting the paper allowing the water to soak into the paper.
🥰
Which paper did you used?
Hello.
I used 300gsm 100% cotton watercolour paper from Saunders Waterford cold pressed 9 x 12 inches block.
Will you be doing any watercolor retreat in Spain 2025? Thanks
I hope to do more retreats with Uptrek next year but not sure of locations yet. Once I know I will post it. 😊🎨
