while this might seem like useful information, it's actually not... you would hope it's better than the older cars you buy. The same can be said to ANY upgrade of a car, lol. For example, I guarantee all the cars tested here are an upgrade and a better car than your 5-year-old Ranger.
@guy proulx pretty sure all-wheel-drive traction control is proving to not be a "useless bells and whistles" feature. What an incredibly silly comment.
We're choosing between 2019 Nissan Navara Calibre EL 2.5 M/T and 2019 Isuzu D-Max LS-A 3.0 Bluepower M/T and in terms of hauling capability , capcity, load, and safety features it's clear that the D-Max is a Reliable and Indestructible Workhorse/Blue-collar ute . I've driven the 2019 Navara that my cousin owns and loaded it with 10 Sacks of rice weights 50KG each and the front is like a plane ready to take off.
The very reason why I don't choose the Nissan Navarra, you've fairly mentioned it. As a practicing agriculturist in the Philippines, I always choose a bakkie that can easily carry 20 sacks of rice or animal feeds, very utilitarian & multipurpose. Right now, I use a 2017 Hilux G 4x4 MT. It's actually doing the job very fairly well. On paved roads, it's 15 to 16 km/L. On rough roads, about 13 km/L. If tray is fully-loaded, about 10 to 11 km/L. So far, I think this bakkie is serving me well as per intended use. It's enough for the job I would say. Another good choice I think will be Isuzu D-Max.
@@yengsabio5315 I've conducted a research that which is bettern and more reliable between Nissan Navara and Isuzu D-Max and most of the comments are D-Max.
@@charlstonrequiez4626 I'm pretty sure it will be D-Max Sir! And the bad side of Navarra, above all, is what you've stated above. I have a friend whose feed company's vehicle is Navarra. He said that when it comes to normal driving, it's a fine vehicle due to its suspension. But when it comes to carrying weights, he shifts to their old 2014 Hilux E 4x2 even on rough roads. D-Max will always be a good choice if I get to or forced to choose between Navarra & D-Max. Hahaha! It's also good-lookin' post-mods!
Owned my ford ranger 2.2 hi rider rear wheel drive from late Dec 2011 and the only thing that went wrong now is the front drivers headlight globe. Man what a incredible machine. Thank CHRIST I bought it, best decision ever ;)
Amazing that the Hilux is second in this comparison, it’s clearly the least sophisticated and the ongoing problem with the DPF, I wouldn’t touch one with a barge pole.
if you can't drive on the tarmac in 4=wheel-drive, you're already behind the pack. So what does that leave? The merc, the VW and the Triton? One of those three is half the price of the other two.. seems like a no brainer to me.
SsangYong Musso is going to shake things up here in Aust, my local dealership here in Queensland offered an additional 3 year onto the 7 year warranty = 10 years of warranty. Good price outstanding warranty ... Tell me why I shouldn't get a SsangYong Musso.
So my 2013 Rok feels a lot more refined on and off road than the current model Rangers we have a fleet of at work........remind me why it apparently 'sets the benchmark' for refinement?
Two items that weren't mentioned about the top two utes. Ford Ranger now has the annoying stop/start feature. A real turn off for buyers as it cant be disabled permantly. Toyota Hilux has a ongoing problem with the DPF which Toyota wont or cant fix, and is now the subject of a class action. These items turn me off buying either. The Triton is the best option for a dual cab ute.
Thank you for saying that the D-Max is one of the best ute's for 4x4 off road use and towing, having had 3 D-max's and the latest a 2019 model all i can say to anyone that looks past the bell and whistle's's that would brake in the hard bush in a new ute, give the D-max a test drive and see for yourself also i didn't trade in the other ute's my son's drive them and one has over 400,000km's and has never needed a repair other than timing chain and belt's, to all a Merry Christmas.
Bought an LDV not gonna lie was worried about it at it first, but never been more happy with the choice, Cheap, Reliable, Easily the best interior out of the Group, Only lacks power but if your not using it for towing that often then its the perfect ute for someone who wants to save a bit on money and still get a quality ute
Lachlan Morley I’ve got one aswell mate great Ute, I do tow a trailer with equipment & around a tonne of water not everyday but it handles what I throw at it! Great value for money
Australia loves their utes! You'd be right at home (truck-wise) in Montana or Texas. No good beaches, I'm afraid. In this comparison I vote for the Mitsubishi Triton. I dig the Isuzu as well, old as it is.
The isuzu D-max has just been updated in Thailand - 190HP/450NM for the 3.0 - the original engine but modified. You should also get it in Australia sometime in the future.
Was looking to buy a Ute this year and test drove a bunch of the ones tested here. By God, the Hilux (Conquest) was horrendous to drive. Suspension just shakes you dizzy. Infotainment system is so outdated. The seats in the rear were uncomfortable due to poor contour design. Engine and gearbox did not belong in this decade. Out of the ones tested, I was most surprised with the Navara's refinement especially with the suspension. 2.5l Engine was smooth too despite being a bit older. Shame the coilovers did not translate well when the tub is loaded though. Ended up with a Bi-Turbo Ranger Wildtrak.
just waiting(8 weeks) on my new biturbo ranger fully load 21.25 cant wait that 2lt engine is a gem i have a bmw 320d the ford engine is more refined, my son has a new hi-lux you where spot on with your comments
2009 Triton here, 245k and going strong, doing a 50mm suspension upgrade to also match the weight of the ARB barwork and winch was probably best money spent apart from the BFG's. Crap seats, very uncomfortable, and that is about it for criticisms (I replaced them with the top model seats, which are merely less crap.). A little more punch down low would be nice too, and I know it is in there. The absolute best thing is the Super Select system (developed for the Dakar Rally Raids to truly dominating effect for Mitsubishi and their Pajeros). The addition of an all-wheel drive setting, 50-50 split front to rear just like a Subaru, in between two wheel and locked-centre-diff high range and low-range 4WD, is a real bonus and a primary safety feature.. It gives instant access (up to 100kph) to all-paw traction. Wet urban roads where an unladen ute will spin, all-paw makes it sweet. Dirt roads that go forever, all-paw positively drives you around corners and stops the unladen rear having slides. Looooooong stretches of outback service tracks, all-paw steering and grip is a definite primary safety feature. None of the other contenders have this feature apart from the VW, which might be a great horse-float tow rig with a grunty motor but isn't a proper 4WD - no low range, so it doesn't count really. I couldn't be happier (apart from the damn seats) with my Triton. Seriously. If this one got squashed I'd buy another one tomorrow - but only with the Super Select system. It Rocks.
V6 ROK AWD is hard to beat on the road and on a dirt road. Handling is amazing, acceleration is Carlike. I’d vote it most likely to avoid using side impact air bags. Great Ute to drive.
These are the top 3 utes that we Filipinos do consider buying. And your comprehensive reviews make it easy for a guy like me to chose my truck wisely. Here is my "like" and "subscribe" to your channel as my way of saying "BIG THANKS!"
Yeh don’t get it either their feedback made it sound a lot worse than what it got ranked, might have something to do with those Toyota dollars at work.
I have an Isuzu d max 2.5 twin turbo 6speed manual it’s the best truck in my opinion and will last the test of time. Borrowed a hilux invincible x no room inside the cabin very hard ride. Underpowered engine that drinks diesel. D max all the way. It’s the best built by a commercial company made to last.
You gotta be honest once you've owned a ranger you never want anything else. They just do everything really well. The right ute definitely won. They are extremely capable in every situation!!
If I use it in the city ,no off road . For small jobs as a electrician plus use it as a family car with 2 kids at the back , which one should I choose ? Are these cars noisy on the highway around 130km/h ?
what about the ldv t 60 what do you think of theses utes the 2022 or 2023 should i get one or should i go for a ford ranger 2019 or 2018 would love to hear what you think
Amarok hasn’t been changed since its inception other than the v6. Best Ute, except it doesn’t have rear airbags. If this doesn’t bother you, it’s the best Ute to buy.
alexaescht yeah which has no bearing on anything mechanical. It’s still the same as the 2011 version side for the engine and dash upgrade. The rest have all had tweaks made.
I would love to see a long term test of the top 5 Utes here. The Ranger seems to win all of these comparisons so it's obviously a good vehicle but every mechanic I have spoken to about them has told me the engines are great but the trans and diffs are not strong enough to cope with it and they see continuous issues with them.
why the X250d instead of the X350d as i test drove one the other day and for me the V6 diesel was the most quiet/refined and powerful engine of the lot, plus there was bugger all road and cabin noise.just hard to go back to the 4 cylinder diesels after testing the Amarok V6 and Mercedes V6
New version has just been announced, should be released soon and will retain the trusty but updated 3 liter..and as usual will probably shit all over whatever shitbox you're rooting on :D
It's hard to choose. The triton seem good value for what you get. But now the LDV T60 comes with a 1800mm megatub , damn...that extra luggage space is so appealing. It might not be the greatest car out there, but in tempted to go with the T60. Space is space. And value is value.
I did 700,000km in two Hiluxs, two wheel drives, around town only, shock absorbers needed replacing, stearing racking went, injector went, wonders abit on the road, Not impressed. Now I have at work a Mit. Triton, bad seating with no lumbar support, fumes coming in, and hard bouncy ride. 130,000km currently and hate the darn thing. . I also have a D-Max and find this excellent to drive and recommends LS-M. Excellent ute
From Wellington NZ. Im a proud owner of the Izusu Dmax. Real truck engine and bullet proof. sorry to say this but, the Ranger and the Mazda BT50 are now using Izusu Dmax engines now. Fact!! I find that people are buying utes for fashion over function.
Well it is because the interior of Triton 2019 is the same as the pajero sport. It is because the pajero sport's interior seemed to be more likeable by consumers.
LDV T60 with chip (chip express) $700 aus dollar.... is 146kw and 489nm!!! It's plug and play and removable in 30 seconds (literally) for services!!! For fucks sake.... The LDV has a colour coded chassis and where it's not is covered in a decent hammer finish!!! It's much better than a lot of other brands!!! If you think I'm wrong... go have a look at one!!!! Inside, underside, outside, engine bay( Garrett turbo). There is a lot to like!!!! Not much to dislike!!!!
So the Hilux is underpowered, has below average infotainment, stiff uncomfortable suspension plus the ongoing DPF issues. But it scores second in this test?
I test drove an SR5 today. It was solid - I'll give it that. It's road manners were horrible and it's engine wasn't as good as others. I would love one but compared to what your dollars can buy elsewhere, I'd struggle to justify it's reputation.
What annoys me is how people will always try and say ‘ranger isn’t that good’ ‘hilux is a shit box’ and obviously saying the exact same thing for every car but these 2 cars are consistently placed 1 and 2 (in 1 review i hilux was 3rd) so i dont think professionals will constantly get this wrong. To be clear I acknowledge there are flaws and these are perfect it just seems stupid to constantly slack them off with out giving actual criticism. For instance the dpf in the hilux, but then acknowledge that Toyota is trying to fix it
Own a Nissan Navara VL and having owned Toyota's, Land Rover's and Nissan's previously I'm in awe of what my Navara does. I think driving style and size of driver has a big say in what works best for you. But I've been places where Toyota's were left behind bogged to the axles. Landies love to let go when you need them most - especially drive shafts. I would say Nissan must have something right given Mercs colab ... But either way I LOVE my Navara.
I like the d-max so much and i really want it to win this comparison..i am even planning to get one myself..but the ranger..oh man, it’s an all-rounder and great performer and the cost is just nice..i am torn!
The LDV impresses/surprises me more than the SsangYong. It's only let down by that engine. If only it had a more powerful one while maintaining fuel economy I would rank it higher. I have to say guys, this has been one of the most fun videos I've watched on youtube in a while!
Alternatively you could always look at chipping/mapping the ECU? If it blows up, buy another one. You can buy two for the price of a single equally specced Merc poser-ute.
Top number one in Papua Indonesia Mitsubishi Triton carried heavy loaded and off-road roads, rally Dakar champion, Volkswagen second, Nissan third, Ford fourth, Toyota fifth, dmax six...
The Hilux has had to many recalls for me, the DPF Filters and now the Air box issues I wouldnt waste my money i would buy the Triton anyway over the week
So , i saw somewhere that ISUZU & MAZDA are working together on their new pick-up models , i assume they will do the work seperate on the bodies & interior but chassis & drivetrains will be the same ? Any truth to this ?
Amarok is a very comfortable and reliable vehicle. I have had my bi turbo 2 litre for three years and love it. My dentist advised against the Hi Lux if I wanted to keep my fillings, one question why can't Toyota build decent seats??
Philz if I were buying a ute I would seriously consider waiting for the new Dmax to be released. They are actually as reliable as toyota claims the hilux is and it’ll be interesting to see what it looks like inside.
Ranger is a good package. But how is the transmission and turbo on this updated model? Previous ones has issues esp the transmission is one of the worst and unreliable
True - but remember that if you're going round Aus towing with one of these, dealers are everywhere. Because you will certainly need one every town you come to to fix your dusty limp mode and your clogged DPF, haha.
Ein Felder What are you basing this on? I’ve not personally seen this anywhere. I’ve heard people talk about it but never seen it, so where is this happening? Oh, and the dpf only clogs if the vehicle is only used around town and never gets to the correct running temperatures.
@@xylemrays671 We own one. It's a 2017, done 90000k's. That is a bullshit sentiment, every one of those km has been miserable and unreliable. The N80 is the morning shit the N70 took on its last day on Earth. My Raptor has seen more bush that Ron Jeremy and I love the fact I can escape into the wilderness and leave the rat race behind on every opportunity I can.
Nathan Waweru - yes I have to say on first impressions not bad at all. I hope they have nailed it as I’m interested - hope they have done some suspension tuning in Australia. However (and I mean no disrespect) just like their trucks they seem underdone and rough. And no disrespect again but when people say their bulletproof when their engines (in the past) produce less torque and HP is similar to the old Land Cruisers lasting forever - Old Cruisers have big capacity and and not much power or torque so they lasted forever - admittedly the engines had a superior lubrication system than competitors at the time.
I got a Musso (smaller tray version). I went for the manual because I need it to stay awake :) I paid less than 30K drive away. Nice interior, very quite and no engine vibration, nice to drive and it carries my wood working timber home when I need it. 7 years unlimited k's warranty, 7 years roadside assist and 7 years capped price service. Only negative is that the engine is gutless with the manual trans. It goes a lot better with the auto.
Ford Ranger is a beast and year by year its becoming better and better. And the amount of torque says it all that it delivers the highest power to its wheels. The Ford Ranger has also an outstanding and attractive facelift which beats that of other utes.(Personal opinion) The style at the back of the truck ''RANGER'' is also unique. while this might seem like useful information, it's actually not... you would hope it's better than the older cars you buy.
You could buy the Nav and make some extra money as a flight instructor. D-MAX all the way.
Owned my ford ranger 2.2 hi rider rear wheel drive from late Dec 2011 and the only thing that went wrong now is the front drivers headlight globe. Man what a incredible machine. Thank CHRIST I bought it, best decision ever ;)

Hilux is second? I cannot take this seriously anymore. It should be near the bottom.

Amazing that the Hilux is second in this comparison, it’s clearly the least sophisticated and the ongoing problem with the DPF, I wouldn’t touch one with a barge pole.
guy proulx rubbish, and if there is it’s certainly no where near as bad as Toyota. I haven’t heard of a class action against Ford, only the Toyota.
if you can't drive on the tarmac in 4=wheel-drive, you're already behind the pack.
Funny enough test driving the Ranger I prefer the 3.2 5cyl with the 6 speed gearbox. Just feels and sounds so much better than the 2l
Triton the best 💪💪💪
Two items that weren't mentioned about the top two utes. Ford Ranger now has the annoying stop/start feature. A real turn off for buyers as it cant be disabled permantly. Toyota Hilux has a ongoing problem with the DPF which Toyota wont or cant fix, and is now the subject of a class action. These items turn me off buying either. The Triton is the best option for a dual cab ute.
@guy proulx The class action was only lodged recently (August) for people who bought Hilux 2015 - 2019. Didn't know Ford had the same problem.

It's number 1 sales in Thailand, more than Hilux
You have my favorite over there, the Chevy Colorado ZR2. Way better than our Colorado model. Do you have good beaches in So Cal?
The isuzu D-max has just been updated in Thailand - 190HP/450NM for the 3.0 - the original engine but modified. You should also get it in Australia sometime in the future.
@@mathsunmasked56 I saw and it's sweet! Really good job by isuzu. Looks better inside and out than the triton now.
Same thing in South Africa, where the Hilux is the most popular bakkie in SA, and the Ranger is by its tail in 2nd place
@Mitch09 The dmax got an update late last year in Thailand. Hasn't arrived in Australia yet, but you should check out the videos.
The only reason I bought a hilux is the support network, as a car/ute, a hilux is a horrendous piece
@@edsong1003 a few years ago we bought a Toyota Fortuner with the same thinking.
it's called the Toyota tax.
just waiting(8 weeks) on my new biturbo ranger fully load 21.25 cant wait that 2lt engine is a gem i have a bmw 320d the ford engine is more refined, my son has a new hi-lux you where spot on with your comments
Finally an honest review for the Nav. Not everyone uses them to carry a tonne in the tub all the time
2009 Triton here, 245k and going strong, doing a 50mm suspension upgrade to also match the weight of the ARB barwork and winch was probably best money spent apart from the BFG's.
It would also leave em all standing at the lights.
These are the top 3 utes that we Filipinos do consider buying. And your comprehensive reviews make it easy for a guy like me to chose my truck wisely. Here is my "like" and "subscribe" to your channel as my way of saying "BIG THANKS!"
So tell me why the Hilux comes 2nd with terrible ride, lacklustre drive train, awful infotainment and a reduced towing capacity?
Yeh don’t get it either their feedback made it sound a lot worse than what it got ranked, might have something to do with those Toyota dollars at work.
Exactly mate the hilux is seriously bottom off the heap. People think they are still reliable but they are terrible
Also the DPF issue.

Amarok hasn’t been changed since its inception other than the v6. Best Ute, except it doesn’t have rear airbags. If this doesn’t bother you, it’s the best Ute to buy.
Med z it got an entirely new dash
alexaescht yeah which has no bearing on anything mechanical. It’s still the same as the 2011 version side for the engine and dash upgrade. The rest have all had tweaks made.
very valid point, it set the bench mark and almost 10yrs later still holds the best ride and refinement
I live in Thailand and Toyota wins on reliability, quality and resale value and so many dealerships all over the country.

why the X250d instead of the X350d as i test drove one the other day and for me the V6 diesel was the most quiet/refined and powerful engine of the lot, plus there was bugger all road and cabin noise.just hard to go back to the 4 cylinder diesels after testing the Amarok V6 and Mercedes V6

It is the Pajero Sport. Seriously, at least show the correct vehicles.
Definitely the pajero sport interior .. gear knob and cupholder is a dead giveaway

Well it is because the interior of Triton 2019 is the same as the pajero sport. It is because the pajero sport's interior seemed to be more likeable by consumers.

The Dmax has been redesigned afresh for 2020.
Only issue with the Ranger 3.2L is you need good breaks cause that thing zooms
Either the Triton or the musso should be first. Idk why it's so hard to see it. Just as good as the leaders but priced alot lower.

For good reason , how could they in good conciuos recommend one , money changing hands somewhere .
Ford Ranger is a beast and year by year its becoming better and better. And the amount of torque says it all that it delivers the highest power to its wheels.
