    Hello everyone. I created this video to teach antenna design to some of my students and juniors. Just for convenience, I uploaded it on the channel. Thank you for all your love and support for this video. I am no longer working in the field and I am unable to help you in troubleshooting or clearing your doubts. There are many other online resources on Ansys HFSS (or Ansys Electronic Desktop, as it is called now). I hope that you will get a better response from those guys who are currently working on antenna design.

      Could you give me a video of rectenna design by HFSS.

    • @helpbeingengineer4726
      @helpbeingengineer4726  6 лет назад

      A rectenna is a combination of a rectifier and an antenna. To make a rectifier you need diodes which cannot be simulated using HFSS. You can perform the simulation in Ansoft Designer + Ansoft HFSS. You have to design the antenna separately in HFSS and the circuit parts separately in Ansoft Designer. There is some provision for importing the antenna from HFSS to Designer. I have never done it myself but I found some resources which tells about such designs. I don't have Ansoft Designer. It comes with the Ansys Electromagnetic suite 2014 and higher versions. It is difficult to get a crack of it..

      Thank you. This tutorial is only for showing how to make a rectangular patch in HFSS and see the results. Inset feeding is needed to match the impedance and bring the S11 parameter below - 10 dB at 2.4 GHz. 3.7 GHz is the 2nd order resonant frequency. It will radiate in X or Y direction. In a rectangular patch antenna, we only see the first order resonant frequency (dominant mode of the cavity model).

      Thank you for that, I shall be expecting it. I have the problem that I need your help on; I have designed and have been simulating a low pass filter, the validations were checked to be good but after analysis i got thi error message " [error] Port refinement, process hf3d error: Port 1 is assigned to an internal face. Only allowed with lumped ports.. (6:55:53 PM Dec 11, 2017)
      [error] Simulation completed with execution error on server: Local Machine. (6:55:53 PM Dec 11, 2017)" Can you suggest the best way to solve this problem? I know you are busy but any help will be most appreciated. This part of my PhD work. Thank you.

      One of my students encountered the same error. I found that a lumped port of his design was touching more than two conductor parts. So, there may be some similar silly mistake in your design. Observe thoroughly and you will find.

    Sir when i am assigning the excitation port as lumped port . It gives an error saying "all faces selected to form a port must lie on the same plane".
    How should i resolve it?

    • @helpbeingengineer4726
      @helpbeingengineer4726  3 года назад

      In the video, you must have seen that I always enter the coordinates (or any dimensions) using the keyboard. If you are just using your mouse to draw the structures, sometimes it may happen that one or two points are not properly aligned. Even a minute misalignment may lead to error.
      Please check the coordinates and positions of each component of your antenna and make sure that everything is in the same plane.

    this antenna doesn't work at 2.4 Ghz due to -10dB criteria. As far as I know you have to take those frecuencies which are under -10dB and 2.4 Ghz is above -10dB

    • @helpbeingengineer4726
      @helpbeingengineer4726  4 года назад

      There is no direct answer to this question. You have to adjust the dimensions a bit. Sometimes we need to use inset feeding to lower the S11 parameter.
      You will find some online tools or mathematical equations to calculate the dimensions but they usually give an approximate result only. You must adjust the parameters and run multiple simulations to get the most expected result.

  • @raghav1502
    @raghav1502 2 года назад

    you should add gaps near feed point to fine tune the resonant frequency or tweak the ground plane as the first resonant frequency is near 3.7GHz with a return loss of -14dB and not at 2.4GHz frequency. Also you are having one more resonant frequency near 4.6GHz which is having a return loss of -10dB so this is no way working at specified 2.4GHz frequency as the return loss is higher than -10dB

    • @helpbeingengineer4726

      No. This was an introductory video on how to design a microstrip antennas using HFSS. You need to match the impedance using some other method such as inset feeding.

      @@helpbeingengineer4726 thank you sir! It was my doubt.. & now it cleared but I have some other questions... is it necessary that, a gap between substrate & ground plane, & substrate & feed line to be present there in order to design that antenna? I meant we can directly put ground, substrate & patch by avoiding those copper materials gap?

    • @helpbeingengineer4726
      @helpbeingengineer4726  Год назад

      @swetapadmapanda6349 in simulator, you can do anything. But you must keep it in mind that those antennas are to be fabricated, and the measurement results should match simulation results. That's why you have to keep the gaps as close as possible to the specifications of the PCB boards you have purchased.

      The plane you assign for making the lumped must touch the ground plane and the feed line. If they are not properly connected this error may occur.
      The arrow line that you draw to define the lumped port must be withing that plane.
