HFSS Tutorial 1- Microstrip Patch Antenna with coaxial feeding

  • In this video, I'm giving a little overview on how to use hfss to design a microstrip patch antenna. We design a patch antenna with required dimensions and implement that model or simulated in hfss. This antenna consists of the substrate(dielectric material), Ground, patch (these are mostly common in every design) with coaxial feeding. In this video, I'm only focusing on basic modulation of design and how to get the result from simulation, I take dimension randomly but if you go for the project then always take dimension of the patch according to substrate parameters( dielectric constant, height and operating frequency.     Thank you for tutorial video Sir, it is really helpful for me to understand the basic step to design antenna. I have a question about design microstrip patch antenna at 3.5GHz with glass substrate. In order to operate target frequency and i need to optimize dimension parameters, is there any equation for specific dimension of the patch antenna?

    there is no need to create outer conductor for coax

    How is it that you never subtracted the the pin from the substrate. Should you not get an intersection error?

      pragti narang If u not subtract the pin from the substrate u surly get intersection error. I think I couldn't make this silly mistake but thanks for noticing and I will try to visualise every part of designing in my upcoming tutorials.

    why PEC radius is.7mm and height is 5mm outside of substrate and outer cylinder is of 1.6mm ?
    what is thicknes of patches?

      But i recommend for online resources available about antenna rather go for such costly books. If you are really interested in designing antennas and want to continue your work in antenna field then go for it. All the best

      The radiation box needs to be at least (lambda/4) from the edges of the design. Where (lambda) is calculated relevant to the minimum simulation frequency.
