definitely. i also appreciate in the case of something like the archive he recognizes the difference between storage and travel when giving his grades. If he treated the 800+ archive like he was taking in and out of the house, bringing it to an LGS or a friends house, I imagine it would receive a far worse grade, but it's not intended for that purpose.

  • @torchofgenesis
    @torchofgenesis 3 года назад +49

I own a Toyger so I feel I've gotta give my two cents on it. I use it regularly to transport a single EDH deck (double sleeved)
It's the only deckbox I have that is slim enough to fit into my laptop bag without bulging out and creating a risky point that could be hit in transit and damage my laptop (which is what I would fear putting my standard deckbox of choice, the Boulder). In the video, the professor regularly pushes the Toyger open and closed using only the box to force the cards to slim down over and over and it looks really risky and I totally understand where people are coming from feeling super anxious. I always use my fingers to help guide the cards into the slim position. There is a 0% chance that any of the cards would ever take damage when folding them down that way. It's been a really great deckbox for specifically needing to fit a single EDH deck in my laptop bag. Is it the best deckbox I've ever owned? No, but does it offer a slim profile that is not available in any other deckbox on the market? Yes, it absolutely does.

I had a similar issue for taking a deck or two to work if I was going straight to the lgs from the office.
In the end I just went with a new bag instead as something like this gave me the absolute fear
Ended up with a great deadpool bag, ok I get odd looks as everyone else has the issue or similar laptop bags etc but I felt a better bag was a better compromise for me personally

Right now I don't know of any deck box on the market that can do that outside of the recently released Dragon Shield deck double shell, which looks to be made of the same flimsy hard plastic that the cheap boxes are all made of, and doesn't have room for dice.

In Japan, a lot of players bring their decks to work/school so they can head down to their LGS in the evening. and they do not carry backpacks - they use briefcases. And the size of the toyger fits that perfectly whereas standard boxes are too wide for the narrow briefcases

Always love seeig the product reviews. You mention storage rather than travel. I would love to see a video covering products for full collection storage. If there are products other than the big white cardboard boxes you know of that is.

The Toyger is basically an unreasonable amount of inconvenience and risk for the sake of a gimmick.

The Arkhive 800 looks like exactly what I've been looking for. I have a 360 card cube, but with basic lands and tokens it actually amounts to about 650 double sleeved cards. (I sleeve the tokens in a different color than the actual cube, but double sleeve them for uniformity) I went back through all of prof's videos looking for a box for it, and would get sad every time he talked about a 400+ box knowing it wouldn't actually hold my "small" cube. And of course every 1000+ box for larger cubes is just entirely too much space. This 800+ Arkhive seems like just the thing I've been looking for. Thanks Prof!

What style of cube are you building?
I ended up making my box custom from black walnut, as it gave me exactly the size I wanted. Look up Burger Tokens, they have 15 card deck boxes that work great as 'booster packs'. I recently altered my cube's design into a hybrid of jumpstart and traditional drafting, and it is honestly much more fun to play. Good luck with making your first cube!

@The Professor. With the Toyger Case you have to align the pringle curl of the card so that it folds without resistance.

This deck box review is iconic. Starting out with a negative review, rolling into talking about deck boxes he actually likes, then comparing a great product to one that he's already reviewed due to their similarity, finishing off with what could perhaps be a new favourite deck box!

I always enjoy watching your accessory product reviews. Because of your recommendations, I am a proud owner of Ultimate Guard Boulder Deck Boxes and Arkhives. Dragonshield inner sealable and matte sleeves. Dragonshield Codex and zipped binders. And all purchased at my LGS with the exception of the Dragonshield binders which I had to order online as my LGS do not sell it.

UltimateGuard really hit a home run by making the Boulder so excellent and compact that it gets to stealth-advertise itself in so many of Profs product review videos.

I am really excited about the Toyger and just placed an order. I use sealable sleeves on my Commander decks, the only other deck box I've found that will hold all 100 cards is the Boxgods Titan. The Titan feels amazing but is heavy and expensive. Sure, the Toyger seems to have a lot of flaws, but it's the perfect solution for me. And there's room for tokens! I'll report back on my experience-if the Toyger works well enough, I'm literally picking up five of them.

I still need an "Affordable" Mass transport option for a dozen+ commander decks that is superior to a duffelbag or carry on bag, without a price uptake of 3-400%.
Great to see more review content from the Prof!

Hey Prof, for the Arkhive 800+, if it's meant as a storage unit, I think the more realistic situation would be your hand slipping as you tried to pull it off your shelf from a height, so a drop test would be a more useful test to perform, maybe dropping it onto its side or its corner to simulate as if one of your hands lost grip and the Arkhive tilted to its side before falling to the ground.

Prof, if you ever do a part 2 for Everyday Products for TCGs, I highly suggest you take a look at a soft flute case for holding deckboxes. I find them to hold six 100 count Boulders perfectly, with a side compartment that holds a rolled up playmat or tons of dice and they can easily be picked up for $20 or less.

Got the Toyger for Christmas and I gotta say, I like it a lot for two 55 card Digimon Card Game decks. with 110 double sleeved cards, it doesn't really "squeeze" like Prof mentioned. It's absolutely a pain with my two Pauper decks and sideboards and I do not recommend it for that. As far as size goes, I actually do like the slimness of the box for a smaller bag, but for like 95% of people, this does not apply to you lol. For $40 though, I'd have a hard time recommending it and I wouldn't even buy it for myself if it were not a Christmas gift. Hope that helps anyone!

I'd love a good travel bag (over the shoulder or backpack) that'll hold more than a couple deck boxes without stacking them. Something that will allow you to access everything without unpacking the entire bag. Plus a place for dice, playmats and counters.

Easily the best review videos on everything MTG from sleeves, deck boxes and other accessories to actual sets being released. I always check with TCC before buying a new product I'm not too sure about. I'm guessing you get most of the things you review for free, but that doesn't stop you from giving a product a bad review when it is deserved.
Keep up the good work my man :)

Hey prof, just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate these product review videos. If it wasn't for this ongoing series of videos, I possibly wouldn't have picked the box I did for my cube. It's been a couple of years now and I still love my Dex Protection Supreme Game Chest. Thanks prof! :)

I went to my first event (Pre-release) for 25 years 2 days ago and the box you get with the bundle of the last sets are really nice !
Even more if you put another tray from another bundle box inside. You can use the top for an additional tray for your dices or just put it upside down under the box and then you have a compact and almost free place to store your dices, tokens or cards you are not playing.
Please make a review of the bundle pack cardboard box :)

I got a Arkhive 800 the other day. Loaded it up with 8 commander decks, in 8 boulders, and did a shake test. If the latch is secured properly you'll get tired before it shakes open.
