  • Canon 90D vs Canon 6D Mark ii, wow, what a tough video to make! these two cameras are so different being full frame vs crop sensor that I really struggled to come up with a fair comparison. As a result I had to go with more of my opinion than actual proof of what I believe. With that said, I still believe this video may be helpful to someone who is on the fence. Hopefully I provided enough information for someone to make an informed decision.

    Aaron, found your channel over a year ago when I was deciding on getting a DSLR. You helped me choose the t7i and I’ve been real happy with it. It’s great to see your channel growth bro. Keep it up!
    I’m leaning heavily towards a 6D for image quality and low light picture capabilities. Thanks again!

    Well done. I have been researching this topic for a while now in anticipation of buying a camera/video device. After 100s of hours of RUclips videos and reviews THIS is the exact conclusion I came to as well. Thanks Aaron.

    This was very helpful, especially where you explained that the 90D can accommodate both EF AND EFS lenses... makes me rethink my desire to invest in a full frame camera at the moment... I appreciate it!

    I am so glad to find your video review on these two cameras. i spent hours to find answers on all my questions what camera to pick for my needs. I was hesitating because the cost is pretty similar on used 6d mark ii and new 90d and both cameras are great. But you explained stright to the point all prons and cons of usage in terms of photography and videograpthy. It helped a lot. Thanks for making this video.

    Thank you, Aaron. This was a very thoughtful review. My focus is photography and not video. But, I'm leaning towards a 90D at the moment due to the fact that I can still use my current lenses. You really given me lots to think about. Thank you again and well done!

    Sir, your camera and equipment reviews are always stellar. It’s most appreciative how you provide real and honest reviews. This one most definitely huts that same mark. It was a hard comparison but thank you for demystifying this curiosity for us enthusiasts. The 90D is most definitely on the purchase list. 😊

    It may have been harder than you thought for you to make the video - but I 'm happy to say that your conclusion was clearer than I expected and has made my decision much easier: I want to do both, so I'll take the 90D :) Thank you for your help!
    Update: I've had my 90D for a few weeks and so far I am perfectly happy with it 😊

    Great video as usual. I appreciate how you don't bog down your reviews with specs. They truly are practical.
    You're so right about the video vs photo. I picked up the 6D Mark II back in November (despite it being an older camera) simply because I knew it would meet my photography needs and I don't do any video at all. Plus at the time they both were the same price and I figured I might as well get the full frame while it was on sale.

    Great video, Aaron! I think too many people are obsessed over sensor size..especially when it comes to video creators. On my channel I stress the importance of lighting, shot composition, and last but not least, CONTENT! An interesting shot on an average camera is better than a boring/ordinary shot on a top camera.. for anyone reading this comment, let that statement sink in...

    Thanks very much Aaron, really useful advice. I have an 80d and was thinking of upgrading. All that I read about the 90d, though, was about its video capabilities, but I've only once ever shot video on the 80d. So your comment about going for the 6d for the photography, or the 90d for video work, clinched it for me. The other detail that persuaded me was a diagram I saw of the relative sizes of the aps-c and full-frame sensors.

      Camera shopping is really hard to do, especially when your line of work requires you to do both at the same time. I could potentially buy a 90d for video and keep using my 80d for photos, but I need to find a camera with great low-light capabilities.

      32MP on APS-C sensor vs 26MP on full frame sensor. Think about it again. Which one will produce more noise?

    • @eldermmiguel
      @eldermmiguel 3 года назад

      @@genecatcher1 More information in smaller space, more compression, more side effects. I think 26mp was already good, the camera looks perfect. I came from Nikon and I think she came to fight with the D500, which is one of the best cameras made by Nikon and is cropped.
      I never tried it but if it delivers photos with good results over 10 thousand iso because I saw it on the D500.

Even after watching your video i still cant decide. For film school should i get 90d or 6d mark ii. Im udgrading from a 7d+60d setup with mainly ef(not efs) lenses. I own a 5D mark III and a Canon 00D and I struggle to compare them. I still consider the 5D3 a Pro camera body despite its age and my 90D a ProSumet ca.era body. But I cant help but find myself using the 90D more due to having more features and higher megapixels. However if I want a certain look to my images the 5D3 is the camera I'm going to shoot with. Thete is just something so pleasing with the full frame sensor.

    I currently have Canon 60d + Sigma 35mm 1.4 + Canon 50mm 1.8 and do a lot of car photography. To me, it feels a little bit outdated, so I'm looking to upgrade, plus I don't like that it's APSC. Been looking at mirrorless options like Canon RP or R, but I'm not sure, because they're quite expensive and have plenty of cons. Anyone can recommend a decent Canon camera? 90d? Like the one in the video? There's too much choice.

    Moving from a t3i that I've been using for 10 years at least it seems,,, I'm struggling to choose a new camera. The 90 interests me slightly more because of lens options, however, I never shoot video and have zero desire to. Perhaps the 6d would be a more realistic choice. Enjoyed your video

    I have to say, this video was very informative, so, thanks. I did want to mention, I'm a pro-photographer and my mentor, partner & best friend, uh, my grandpa, is a Master Photographer with nearly 6 decades behind him. I have a little more than 20 years myself. When we watched the video, you mentioned most "pros" choose a full frame. We know many pros and semi-pros. We all choose the 1.6 crop due to its versatility, compact size and endless features on the fly, and the fact we rarely do video. When we do, we use a drone as it tends to lean toward real estate work.
    .
    All of this being said, I've been struggling with going with either the 90D or the 6D MKii. The only "full" frames we own are old 120, 220 and 645 medium film cameras - being way bigger than full frame 35mm. Buying the 6D would be my first full frame DSLR. However, after watching this, I'm leaning toward the 90D, mainly because it's newer and I had no idea the 6D accepted only "some" EF lenses. That's a downer for me. I'm looking for a DSLR that is 30+MP, has a huge lens/attachments selection, and must be capable of rich, sharp, colorful imaging within a reasonable price range.
    .
    One last note. 1.6 crop factor vs. full frame at the same MP won't make your 30x40 inch enlargements noticeably better than the other. Pretty much any Canon camera from 18MP and up is fully capable of being enlarged to 30x40in. and still remain sharp. Throw in some AI editing using Topaz Labs DeNoise, Adjust, Mask or Sharpen, or any combo of these, no one will see the difference when looking at the print from the proper distance for the enlargement.
    .
    Now, off to look at some more comparison videos using this video as a baseline for the 90D and comp'ing the T7i, T8i and 90D.
    .
    Mirrorless cameras are a no-go for me. They just look cheap and toy like, which is good for us. Since so many people are flocking to buy the latest "mirrorless" cams, DSLR prices are dropping - FAST! I love it.
    .
    Hope to see more of your vids in the future.
    .

    Thanks for the video, it came in real handy because I'm at a crossroads... I always liked photography but never invested much, but this year I deiced to invest in it. I've been a Nikon guy all my life and my current camera is an old Nikon D90, but this year I finally out-grown it. So if I want the camera ONLY for hobby photography (small models, a little landscape, street shots) and since I have zero lenses (right now all my glass is Nikon), what would be better, 90D or 6D Mk II? I would REALLY appreciate some feedback on this, because I'm really at a loss to what to choose.

      I love the quality of the images I get from the 6D Mark ii. I also think they have more range in light room. Shadows and highlights, also the 6Dmkii seems to have much less noise at higher ISO. So for photography only I'd recommend it vs the 90D. I've taken thousands of photos with both, and I always like the 6D photos more.

Which on do you think will be the best in terms of dynamic range and low-light condition for example, for a good sharp portrait ?

      I've had better experience with full frame cameras in low light and for almost all photography needs. With that said, the Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 and the Sigma 35mm f1.4 have been fantastic for me on my 90d in low light and many situations. A few lenses you may want to try for street photography, the lenses are a bit large, but the results are fantastic on my crop sensor cameras like the 90D and T7i. If you want to stay with the 90D, that would be my recommendation.

    I'm exactly in this dilemma. I am really impressed by the shutter speed, the continuous shooting and the improved focussing system on the 90D but i really would like a full frame as well!

      After owning my 60D for some years and now the 6Dii, I dont think it is a big deal to have FF just for the sake of having it. Also the field of view vs lens purchases becomes mlre challenging. The middle of the lens range is the same price wise but on the ultra wide and telephoto end is where it changes. You can get amazing quality ultra wide on a crop body (8 and 10mm) for about $600 while with FF the most extreme ultra wide (12 and 11mm) cost 3x as much. The same on the telephoto end but even more expensive because of the crop factor making short telephoto long. The low light is better but most cameras these days do a good job. The largest benefit I think is portrait photography to add that extra backround blur and low light. If that is not specifically a major part of what you shoot, then pick the one that has the features you want most.

    • @gregorypecaut7164
      @gregorypecaut7164 Год назад +1

      You probably will end up with 2 good cameras. A aps-c for long range outdoors photography and a full frame for portrait and artistic photography.
      At least that keeps the cost down in the big telephoto lenses. The 90d is great for sports and birds, and long range photography.
      The 6d Ii is going to do better for artistic, portrait, and low light.
      What ever camera you have now, just get some good glass for, keeping in mind that EF lenses can also be used in your full frame most of the time.
      I bought a 6d cheap, but every lens I have bought for it cost 2-3 times more than the camera.
      Wish I had just bit the bullet and bought an R6 mk Ii. Because now to move up I will have to use an adapter.
      Same with my aps-c. Should have just bought the R7.
      You're not just buying a camera, you are buying into a system. And changing systems is way more expensive than just a camera.
      You can take wonderful pictures with a cheap body and good glass.
      Know exactly what you want to do with your photography. Get the glass you need. Then get the camera for the job.
      You probably have an asp-c camera now. So when buying glass, if you think you're going for a full frame, make sure your new lenses are capable of being used on a full frame.
      Unless pro photography is on the horizon, or you're wealthy, I bet you stick to asp-c. And if you're going pro, then just figure on getting into the R series cameras and lenses now. You'll want and need the dual card slots, usb2 SD cards, and those $1,000 + lenses. At least the RF 50mm f/1.8 isn't too bad of a price.

  • @john3931

    I'm not a pro, just a hobbyist. For me the major drawback with the 6D II is the 1/4000 shutter speed limitation. If you've ever done high speed sync, then you know this is essential for creativity. And continuous burst limited being limited to 7 FPS.

    • @FitsandFun
      @FitsandFun  4 года назад +5

      I have not shot any high speed continuous, but I do a lot of nature and birding, the 7fps work alright for my needs at this point. I still plan on getting the Canon R5 at it's release though, just have to decide which kidney to sell first.

    Aaron, do you have a comparison of 90d and 6d mark ii in low light, fast moving and zooming? I have a canon sl3. I have used it for volunteer work taking pictures and videos for high schoolers performance portfolio (dance, theatre, orchestra and band). They use black box or theatre for their performances. The room is usually dark. I have to max my ISO to 25600 that caused the pictures to be grainy. Any thoughts on which camera is better for taking pictures in my situation? Thank you.

    • @FitsandFun

      I don't have any experience with that lens. I prefer fixed f2.8 lenses for walk arounds. Sigma and Canon have a few that aren't the L series, and are affordable. Around 24-70mm, but may vary slightly. Just so you can get decent indoor shots at f2.8.

    I wish the 90D is full frame. That is the only downside for me. I make a lot of hauls and standing videos that requires full shot. Do you think with a good lens, I will be able to make it work? I am confused.

    • @Linteria
      @Linteria 3 года назад +1

      To get a similar enough result, all you have to do is compensate for the cropped field of view with a wider (and faster) lens. I shoot with the M6ii (same guts as 90d). If you want a 35mm full frame look, use a 22-24mm lens. If you want a 24mm look use a 16mm lens, for 16mm a 10mm lens, and so on. Once you get used to calculating for the 1.6x crop factor, it becomes second nature. Also keep in mind the aperture on the cropped sensor lens should open at least one stop wider than the full frame equivalent look you're going for to achieve a similar depth of field.
      For 90D lenses, I suggest the 24mm pancake and the 10-18mm for those wider shots.

      I had shutter speed 1/80, iso 100, aperture f1.4. I set the color temp manually to k5200. I also use the picture profile fine detail and tweek it a little, usually take the contrast down a noch. Then I registered the settings to C1 so I can shoot all my videos in this setting with a real consistent look. I own the R6, and still prefer the 90D for this setup.
