  • In this video I look at how to wire the PoKeys57CNC Motion Controller to the Stepper Driver PoStep60 and Power supply, E-Stop, Limit switch and probe. The steps to set up in March3 is also looked at. Finally I have made a diagram showing the connections I made.

Thank you Martin for this video. I am trying to retrofit a Chinese built "Industrial Brand" CNC router to the PoKeys57CNC Motion Controller. Appreciate all your work and effort to help others.

Great video! One thing you did not mention is to conect pokeys57cnc to drivers with poextension cable. Without doing this you will have to setup each driver individually by usb and write driver settings. I believe polabs recommends using the poextension method for overall control of driver settings thru pokeys57cnc.

Hi Roderick. Thanks for the feed back. I do plan to make a separate video on PoExt cable and some of the boards that connects via it. Currently I'm working om making PWM work - and its giving me some troubles :-)

I haven't gotten to the pwm yet. Just switched to the pokey60 drivers from automation direct for my mill project and test benching before permanent install to enclosure. I keep saying, if people really understood all the capabilities of the pokeys line of components, I doubt anyone would choose anything else. Definitely a step above other diy cnc products. Look forward to seeing more of your videos.
      -Cheers,
      Rod

Yes, I agree. I'm also impressed how many functions you get. Also tried their Pendant. It works really well

Hello Martino. Great video! Congratulations! I am connecting to CL86T driver. I used, as you did, 10 pin flat cables. I connected according to the scheme to common-cathode. Unfortunately the engines do not move. First of all I would like to understand (at time 11:37) why you use as Step Dir Pin the values 2 3 for the X axis, 4 5 for the Y axis, 6 7 for the Z axis. Why exactly these values? And secondly, could you give me your opinion regarding the motors not moving? Thank you. And thanks to anyone who wanted to answer.

Thanks Martin I successfully installed a stepper motor. Now another problem. Connect the servo '80ST-MO2430 (220V) and' PoKeys75CNC 'Control port CN2. If you have any idea please help.
    Sincerely, Vladimir

    Hey Martin,
your videos are great. Is it also possible to use normal stepper drivers like the cheap chinese ones or is it required to use PoStep drivers?
    Thanks
    Leo

Why are you using pin 15 for limits an probe? Shouldnt prob be a different pin#,also im tryn to hook up external switch to be used as ENABLE,
CYCLE HOLD , CYCLE START,...Where do i hook those switches into the 57cnc board to trigger those mach commands, im on mach4, also

Thanks Martin you confirmed a few things I was unsure about while rewiring to this board.
One question I'm sure I am soon going to realize the answer is.
Why 16v in your application? I am trying to figure out if I "SHOULD" use my current 12v power supply from old board. I was running my prox switches and my relay out for a LED light strip. The strip requires 12vdc. Does this power in determine the relay output as well?
This leads me to my next step and that is the prox limit switch.. can I tap into the power supply I use going into the Pokey to power the switch? Is this ground this same as the limit switch ground? (therefore the switch will pass ground back to the Limit swicth inputs)?

I noticed you have some videos about the NPN/PNP prox switches.
      ruclips.net/video/F7BjZElStfQ/видео.html
This helped me wrap my head around these little buggers. HOWEVER
I was using a plug in transformer for my 12vdc. I put 12v to the POWER IN and moved the jumper. The board started to buzz a little. Any Idea why I get the buzzing under external power? Is this normal?

@@twistedtuner3467 I use a 36V PSU in the setup. That is to much for the card that need 6-24V - 16V is a good compromize. You can as well use your 12V PSU for sure. With regards to the prox switches - they need 6-36V so again 12V is fine. However, as the digital input only accepts 5V you need a pull down resistor or even better a Zeener diode. Both are described in other videos I made.

@@martinbarfoed5040 Thanks Martin for the quick reply.
I have been in contact with PoLabs. They are telling me I cannot use my NPN prox, with a built in pull down.
I did pick up a few 10K ohm resistors (brown black orange-red) think they are 2 watt?
Is there a special type of resistor to use? I have tried to put the resistor across the brown - and the black output wire and I cannot get the voltage to drop. I tried the blue to black as well no luck. I did have the switches hooked direct to board and I can get Mach 3 to stop when hits limit, BUT I can't reset the switch while it is activated. If I use a rocker switch I can reset while switch is still depressed.
There is a setting I had on the old board/mach3 that would hit the limit switch, I could reset but it would ONLY back away from the switch and do it in step mode going very slow. Once clear of the switch I could then repress the direction key and it would jog like normal. Any Idea how to get this function with the pokeys57cnc and Mach 3?
I did get it to home and auto back away a set amount of steps using a rocker switch, but what I mentioned above is slightly different.

@@martinbarfoed5040 I did pickup few buck down converters and wired one from my 36v driver P./S down to 12vdc and this has solved the buzzing issue on external power. My plug in transformer must have been putting out dirty power.

Hello if we want to use 8 axis all together. What can we use control program.
    Mach3 or mach 4 include 6 axis..

    • @martinbarfoed5040
      @martinbarfoed5040  6 лет назад

I do not know of programs that support 8 separate axis. Often folks use slave function e.g. A as slave on Y - so if you had two slaves you would be using all 8.

Hello Martin . You have experiences to connect 'PoKes57CNC' to '2HSS86H-A-5/24 Hybrid Step-Servo' ?

No I haven't looked at that combo. If your controller has inputs for STEP and DIR I would expect that you can use them together.

Dear reader, we have a problem with the Pokeys 57CNC. Everything works so well.
    We have something strange.
We use touch keys to move the axes.
After briefly pressing the buttons belonging to axis B and C, the axes continue to run.
Had contact with Polap several times, but I don't think they know either.
Who can help me further, we have been using Pokeys products from them for more than 15 years and have encountered no problem so far.
