- Canon's EOS Rebel T3, at the time of the release, was the lowest-tier camera in the EOS lineup. That said, it's a capable camera that can take great photos and that is amply suitable f or any purpose. The T3 is small, light, feels great to hold, and has a pretty good sensor on it, too. This video provides an overview of the camera's interface and looks at the buttons, what they are, and discusses a bit about what they do. Video 2 is an in-depth look at how to use the camera. Video 3 explores the menu system and custom functions to look at the camera settings in detail.

For some reason I can’t find the metering mode on my camera. I go into menu as you say but the second red box over doesn’t have it listed. Any suggestions?
Hmm. Odd. Check your firmware. If you have a different version it may either be moved or not there. If your version is old, see if you can update it.
I don’t have meter mode either.
I'm not sure if you still need this. I've just figured this out as well. The selector knob should be on "P" to show these additional options in the menu.
Thanks much for your time....Anything on connecting camera to wifi?
Thank you and likely no since there's no wifi antenna for these.
Very informative for people who have never used a DSLR: the simplest instruction about not breaking the SD card AND the camera, how to put the battery and SD card in correctly, how to find out how many pictures it will hold, etc. 5 minutes into the video and I'm learning so much already: thanks!!!
Thank you!
Thank you Davis for this series. Its a wonderful start to my photography journey.
Thank you!
Hello David. At 5:44 you are showing your camera has 4 red camera "things at the top of the screen and the camera I have only has 2 and I don't display metering modes. It seems my menu is different than yours. Can you tell me why? Thanks Bob.
Hey, Bob, check your firmware version first and make sure you're on the same version as me. If so, I think there's a setting in the menu system for basic or advanced menu setup. I forget where it is. Since I no longer actively repair and resell cameras, I've sold off all my T3 inventor y and no longer have one I can check.
I also got your e-mail, so I can answer those questions right now:
1- For your photos, what mode are you using (P, A, S, or M)? And what settings?
2- Try the camera with no lens and a long shutter speed, like a second or longer. Look at the sensor when you take the photo. Is the shutter opening and is the sensor visible?
For your memory card, you should be able to delete the images from your computer. If not, you can format the memory card on your computer and that will wipe out ALL the data on it (so only do that if you don't have anything on it that you need.)
Thanks David. I am totally new to this. I did move the mode from the green "circle to P and it seems everything is working now. I have a lot to learn!!
how long can you video at one shoot
30 minutes
I have a question. How do i get the best zoom for my pics? I have a zoom lens 75-300mm and when i zoom in and tak a pic i look back at the pic and the zoom is gone. Its just a normal non zoomed pic.
So when you set the zoom to 75mm and take a photo and then do it again at 300mm the photos are the same?
@@DavidHancock no. When i set it to 300 and hit the magnification button to zoom in the picture is not taken as how i see it on the screen. It takes a pic as its only at 300mm. Is this normal?
@@alanellis8366 What make and model lens are you using?
@@DavidHancock i have a canon eos rebel t3 and i am using the 75-300mm canon ultasonic. It was a package. You get 2 lenses with camera
@@alanellis8366 Got it. And when you zoom you're using the zoom ring on the lens and no controls on the camera, correct?
I just got this camera for my bday and I’ve watched this video as well as the first one you made about this camera. Great information explained for beginners! Thank you!
Thank you and happy birthday!
David, you send very much like a mature female.
Coincidentally, I am a mature woman.

I use the Canon T3i that has many of the features on it as your camera. I haven't used all of the settings on the mode wheel. I am glad that you explained there uses. I was trying to take a picture of a fly. If I had known about the flower on the mode wheel was a micro focal that shot of the fly would have been perfect. Now I know how to shoot close-up in micro. Thanks for explaining the uses on the mode wheel.
Thank you!
What do the top right buttons do, the * and the grid do?
Did I miss those? I may have. The grid is the AF point selection button so you can specify an AF point. The asterisk has functionality determined in the menus. Video 3 will cover the different options for that button and what they do.
Thanks maybe I missed it, I will go back and check.@@DavidHancock
You mention using a flash that bounces light up, do you have any recommendations?
If you're looking for a budget flash, the Yongnuo flashes are good. Otherwise any of the Canon speedlite flashes should work.
Thank you, thank you, 😊
