    Hi Greg, I agree with you on long wet grass it clogs, if it's weekly cuts or a fortnight with no more than 2 inch it will cut wet grass fine. I too also think that for long grass the engine is under powered. Guess what? My BBC was fine before the upgrade but since it was done if you release it slow it can stay up but I always push it back to make sure it releases. Great mower over the older versions but still not there with it yet.

      Cheers mate. Yep not sure on the BBC upgrade thing. Engaging the bail arm also seems lighter on the 48 than the 56. Might due to length of cable. Who knows. It’s a mixed mower. Far from perfect in my eyes but at least they are going on the right direction. Thanks for watching bud

    Just found your channel,, I have several mowers, Hayter 48 Auto drive, Honda hrx 19",And a Viking(Stihl) mb655...The Viking is the best in the wet, without doubt, it has a mulch blade on it, for me.. Good video. 🚜🇬🇧💯🇬🇧

    Hi Greg i recently bought my second 41pro and used it on very wet grass it cut and collected really well for the first day until the bag got mucky and the blade started to dull.it gets particularly choked up on mossy stuff also wet clover causes a real mess.
    i echo your comments on this video.and agree that a bigger engine would definitely help with bogging down on the wet stuff
    There is a kit available to reduce the take off speed which i have had fitted to one of my 41"s but to be honest it's not that much different and i still find myself operating with the drive bar acting almost like a throttle
    .
    To be fair in dry conditions, a clean bag and a sharp blade they pack extremely well .
    It must clearly be an issue that machine designers struggle with, one day someone will find the answers just hope it's before i retire .
    Happy gardening!

      Neil. Nice comments. I got the slow drive kit for the 41. Is slower but could always be even more slower🤣. Plastic boxes seems to be the way with the likes of etesia who have the best reputation for bagging all types of grass. Also get the engine revving that helps. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    My 56 pro gets a build up of grass underneath just like that in the wet.

      Yep. Same here. All mowers seem to

    Nice review, im a garden maintenance contractor and imo it’s great does the job asked of it. Doesn’t struggle with anything but I wouldn’t use it on long grass anyway so doesn’t matter. Bags great in fortnightly lawns dry/wet. Only issue like u mentioned is they need to slow the drive speed, feel like I’m trying to keep up with it 😂👍

      Andrew Kensett thanks Andrew. Is yours the 2019 model or 2020? The slow down kit for the 2019 is built in the 2020 model and it’s better and with the new blade does work better in the wet. Thanks for watching.

      Gregs Mowing its the 2019 model, had it a year now. Guess I could trade it in for the 2020 model then. Thanks for the reply, really enjoy the channel👍

      Andrew Kensett cheers. You can get upgrade kit. Should be free if you speak to your dealer. Say it’s bad in the wet. Sort of a key sentence to say. 👍🏻

    I would love a pro stripe but don’t think budget will allow. 48 regular or pro is within means. Which one ? Your reviews are great.

      I’d be tempted with the Hayter engined 48. It’s loncin engine. Can get that revving hard. Plastic rollers though but variable speed

    Greg, here is a tip for you, the throttle lever on the side is so you can change the speed on the engine, with the engine slower then the drive is slower. I know what you mean about them being to fast as I have a 2000 hayter harrier 48 and it is way to fast!

    • @DappsJames
      @DappsJames 3 года назад

      This is why I had the standard harrier 48 ad vs with variable speed. Still a substantial mower and I don’t think I’ll ever go back to a machine without variable speed. Could slow down around obstacles and curves with the engine ramped up on full throttle.

    Good honest review Greg. Pretty much on par with my findings. Still a decent mower in the right conditions, but I think Hayter cut a few corners. Do you know of any reason it didn't come with the blade with the holes in it, shown in your earlier press release video. Mine didn't either !

    • @GregsMowing
      @GregsMowing  5 лет назад +1

      Cheers mate. Yep I think they went with a Honda label instead of outright performance. Money reasons I’m sure. I was surprised to see 48’s rolling out with no holes. Probably better collection without them. Bit shocked as the stuff I saw before saltex had holes. It’s all down to noise regs so maybe they got away with it on the 48 as not as powerful engine thus quieter noise. Thanks for watching 👍🏻

    Could this mower be re engined with a Honda GX160? Put aside the warranty being voided etc but is it possible? Thanks for the video.

    • @GregsMowing

      James. Probably. The engine mount holes will be the same I imagine. So you’ll need the right crank. If you have a project one or whatever. Get the serial number from the current engine. Call uni-power and see what’s available. Then hopefully one is available then it’s just cables to worry about.

    Just starting out and buying a rear roller mower. I can’t decide between hayter and Honda. Any advice please?

      I’ll go for a Hayter. New shape. Can get some second hand for decent money at the moment.

    So what mower would you choose over the 48pro ? I'm looking at a new one for spring 2021. Cheers

      Hi. Got to be the Toro prostripe for all year use. One mower. Side access no issues. Perfect

    The quality stopped as soon as Hayter put a plastic gearbox in their mowers.

    I had a new 48 pro for three weeks and drive chain snapped. Used it twice a week in that time. Hayter and dealers aware that this is a design issue. External drive cover is made of brittle plastic but drive cogs are running wonky and breaking chains. On the day I bought it, I literally was loading it onto my vehicle and another customer was returning his and warned of the issue. A really poor show for a "pro" spec £1,000 machine. It grates me that dealers are selling them to commercial users knowing this is a problem. Mine will be going back for a refund. I would advise anyone looking for a new pro roller to check alternatives at least until Hayter deal with the fault.

      Hi Greg. That must have been annoying. I haven’t had a chain break across any of my new hayters. Though they do stretch and I do believe new chain and new cover are coming. Still plastic but with a metal strip. Like a Stihl.
