I recently changed a lower crankcase off of a modern Honda GXV 160 Engine due to a leaking crank seal and a hair line crack. I replaced it with one taken off an old 1980s GXV 160 engine. The superior quality of the old crankcase compared to the newer was shocking. The casting was twice as thick and it had three oil seals with a rubber seal with a spring inside. The new one had just one made of plastic.
Nice Video guys. Some good points there. I understand both these Mowers sit around the £1200 mark. What would be interesting is to do a video on a Hayter and a Honda mower with machines around the £800 mark. If I only had £800 to spend....what can hayter offer me and what can Honda offer me. Would be comparing the 41 to the HRX as they are in the same price range. Think the Hayter would trump that to be honest. Also it's only the 48 and 56 where the grass box doesnt fit back through the handle bars. My 41 flies through.👍💪
Great review gents. One thing not mentioned was price. Assuming the Honda is quite a lot more? If the Hayter 48 had a Kawasaki or the Briggs 850 in place of the GCV160 there would be less of a difference in performance.
Thanks Tim. Going by rrp 48 pro £1149 Honda hrh pro over £1700. Not sure on the hrd. Think price is mentioned in another video. You would think if every mower had the same engine they will perform the same. I think some will be different. More power the better. Thanks for watching. Hope you are well.
If you run a team of gardeners, that bumper bar on the front of the Hayter has saved many front wheels. Last year switched from all hondas to Hayters. The hayters are definitely tougher. Zero problems with the Honda's on the Hayters too (10 mowers), used everyday.
Thanks Arthur. Well 4 wheel mowers are more for rougher work. The Hayter harriers give a finer finish and a true stripe and come with a commercial warranty on pro silver models. The domestic come with 5 year domestic warranty which is pretty good. So depends what you are mowing. Your own lawn that you want looking nice? Get a Hayter
Gregs Mowing Just starting to get into lawnmowing haven’t got a big budget wasn’t sure what to go for start small and then get something better as business builds
@@powerrangerlegacyfactsande6751 i'd suggest going to your local dealer. maybe get a second hand mower from them or from a recommendation. or get a domestic harrier 48. 19" cut so covers most gardens small and big, then over time get the pro spec as that comes with better warranty and other features.
My dad's got an old mtd mower it's a nice mower but terrible for getting blocked up in wet grass it's so bad you more or less have to just take a tiny bit off in the wet.
The hayter mower look,s like a mower from the movie.back to the future what do you think of the Husqvarna AWD mower with a 190cc Honda auto choke I would like to try the hayter mower if I could get one here in eatonton ga cheers to you 😃😀😄😁 next video make sure that you have.the Volume turned up a bit more ,👂👂
@@GregsMowing they are sold here in the USA .I have one but if they don't have it in England maybe you can get it from here to the USA as always ✌️ out grass hopper 🦗
Hi Greg, the Honda GCVx170 engine has more HP and torque than the GXV160 on the HRH, I understand the GXV is much more robust and commercial engine, but why do the feel the engine is underpowered when like I say the it is actually more powerful than the GXV. I’m currently looking into replacing the GCV engine on the 48 Pro with the GXV, I’ll let you know how I get on.
Hi Kirk. Have you done the engine swap? It’s a quality thing too. The gcv is a good engine but gxv a lot more heavy duty and can take a beating. Also can be tuned better. I’d choose a Kawasaki over any Honda for a mower though 👍🏻
Good vid guys. however reliability is the thing.i have 2 new Hayter 48pros. both have had issues. one going back to dealers 4times. had roller issue which second time back got new roller fitted, clutch plate snapped, and the recall for blade brake system.mower 2 needed new gearbox and recall for the blade brake system..great machine for dry conditions. poor in the wet.getting a bit fed up with the mechanical problems, although they are under warranty. its still inconvenient .anyone else had multiple probs with the Hayter?i never had these problems with the old pros.
Interesting to hear your feedback. Hope Hayter are taking note. I’ve heard of one other gearbox on 48 pro leaking. Yes the BBC recalls are a pain. Think they are sorted now 🤞🏻. Not sure what has happened to the rollers. It’s not great but early days being used in all conditions by everyone up and down the country. I wish you luck with them in the future.
what would have been funny, is if the video broke and each of you had black eyes (fake of course) great video, it shows how you both can be pragmatic about it, and not just dismiss everything derogatory about your favourite brand.
I don't like the Honda hrd/Pro engine. Yes it's unbelievably long lasting but it's a very old design. I think it has strong vibrations and a nasty tinny sound. I never liked the gcv160 again vibration is high and the autodrive choke was always sticking on. I have not tryed the updated version. I really like the new briggs and stratton dov

Great video chaps - really interesting to hear the differences. Hopefully do a few more with various models?
Depends on funds and if Greg travels to me 2.5 hour travel took it's toll yesterday
Cheers mate. Got 2 more comparison videos then we will try and do some action stuff
A good video. I think it’s a matter of preference and why type of lawn you have or have to cut. I like the new hayters they have come a long way.
I've got an old mountfield sp185 and that has a plastic grass box and you can cut in the wet and it hardly gets blocked up much at all.
Great video lads I'm a big fan of re powering machines when ur cutting low u need a high rev high torq engine

Thanks Mike. Yep the 41 pro will be a better mower but you might be able to get a bigger Honda for the money. Quality might not be as good though.

Great video seeing the mowers together but would of liked to have seen them working side by side . Then we could of compared them.
We have something in the pipeline
Stay tuned in the coming months.
Good video chaps , another one in the future ? The new Ant and Dec . Lol.
Cheers Jason. Well it’s a trilogy so maybe 2 more 🤔👍🏻

Why so quite
You will have to ask Apple that one
Lord Chillingworth is a pillock, think I'll buy a hayter
I’m drawn to the Honda
The Honda has bigger jumps in height settings than the Hayter
Hayters are crap, cheap machines that aren't cheap
Perform better than hondas
