- In a 2006 SNF game, Al Michaels has a few funny moments behind the mic. The first part is a brief rant after halftime about the use of pyrotechnics in enclosed (or semi-enclosed, in Texas Stadium's case) stadiums and arenas. I'm not sure whether he said something about it during halftime, though. In the second part (at about 1:00, he and John Madden are confused as to how the officials know the exact spot of the ball after a dead-ball penalty. This is explained after the 3:00 mark.

Per Section 107:
"In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include-

commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;
(2) the nature of the copyrighted work;
(3) the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and
(4) the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work."
The pyrotechnic rant was darn hilarious
"Well if you need 3 inches, that's a Qb sneak play" classic Madden right there lmfao
John and AL, I will never forget the best commentating combo in Sports History!
jim j I prefer al and cris but just my preference
I prefer pat and john as well as al and chris
My top announcer pairings ever:
1) Michaels and Collinsworth
2) Michaels and Madden
3) Sam Rosen and Bill Maas
4) Summerall and Madden
5) Mike Patrick, Joe Theismann, and Paul Maguire
@@robsmith961 How about Summerall and Brookshier?
@@sludge4125 I have never listened to them. Honestly I can't say I have comprehensive knowledge yet, but from what I have heard these are, on my mind, the best pairings.
Al Michaels is the best announcer in the NFL, BAR NONE!!
He and Cris together are great! Love them together!
Hayley they're the dynamic duo in commentators
Trainking922 I miss Madden and Michaels
Trainking922 Summerall and Madden together were the best ever. No one can touch how Summerall commentated a game.
lol Michaels says Bar None all the time
Al Michaels is one of the only announcers working today who I will watch an event just because he is announcing it. That said, he has some games where he seems to be in an especially bad mood like this one.
BTW - if you want to hear another of his rants on pyrotechnics in arenas, watch the closing moments of the 2004 NBA Finals Game 5. As the clock expires, instead of proclaiming the Pistons the NBA champions, he gets distracted by some fireworks and starts going off on pyrotechnics. And then is like "oh, and the Pistons win the title."
walterlv01 because Al is the type of announcer that's observational, not storyline based. Some (like Boomer Esiason, who famously quit ESPN/ABC because of Michaels after only 2 years) consider it to be egocentric and take away from the game storylines, where the game tends to become a running commentary of Al's thoughts. I like it though, mostly because I'm wired like Al, I tend to make blunt observations about what I'm seeing regardless of their harshness. Al tends to do this more when he is disinterested in the event itself. The 2004 NBA Finals was boring and got some of the worst ratings in NBA history, and this game here was a blowout early.
I’ll tell you what, we’re having an...
GOAT announcing team in history.
Man Al Michaels was in a bad mood that day lol hope he never retires
My all time favorite line from an NFL game: Mike Patrick calling a 2002 Vikings-Seahawks games, in which the Seahawks finished the first half by scoring four touchdowns in one minute and forty-seven seconds.
Yes, you did read that correctly.
The Vikings finally mercifully got to halftime, and when the broadcast started with the second half, Patrick said, "If you're just joining us, the Seattle Seahawks won the toss, and elected to kick the bejeezus out of the Minnesota Vikings!"
I remember that man...those three were good together.
Now THAT is my favorite broadcast team of all time!
I think the best part of this though is Madden: "Yeah, but... how do _you_ know that he knows?"
Now you're back to 4th and 5 and 3 inches.
Hilarious
Bears have 10 wins...............yea...this an old vid for sure..
2006 was a magical year
Vegeta- San well now they have 10 wins
evangray _ They actually tried too.
Jalen Brito yeah
Nah
God if only Al was at the Rams game where the turf got burned by pyrotechnics
Al must really hate pyro in indoor arenas, huh? That was a hilarious call from him
@WildeThang93 Yup I Can't Blame Him!
I want to know who performed the Halftime show
I love Al Michaels: he makes me WANT to watch any game he announces!
Lol Al Michaels is my favorite to listen to when it comes to Football... In this same game Reggie Bush scored on a 61 yard reception (it was like a screen play or a swing route he ran) and after he scored Al Michaels was like "Texans fans is thinking why in the hell we didn't get this guy" lol awww man
Al Michaels is great!
Illegal block in the behind. Couldn't stop laughing
The guy was a tight end.
Al and John are the best on tv 🎵
good to see Tony Romo was getting his ass kicked and throwing incompletions even eight years ago
blind to how horrible that O-Line is I see, its cool, most casual fans only see the qb anyway.
Al Michaels is the best announcer PERIOD
Al Michael and Jim Nantz. Music to my ears
lol Al Micheals getting so irritated
i remember this sunday night game because peyton absolutely took the tuna to school in terms of play calling and coaching. it was the the first time i watched a game and understood the term " we got out coached " to the fullest.
Parcells sucked by this point
I know after the Pistons beat the Lakers in the 2004 NBA Finals, Michaels said something about the pyrotechnics after they went off. So yeah, he's no fan of em. Especially indoors.
Lol Al must have bet either the under or taken the Cowboys, feisty.
+scyanks7 You took the words right out of my mouth
He'd probably have lost the bet already either way
It's an easy call for a Down Judge in the NFL. Every set of chains in the NFL has a 5-yard mark labeled on the chains. The play started either more than 5-yards or less than 5-yards. That play apparently started 3 inches longer than 5 yards from the line-to-gain (or first down). Incredibly simple explanation. Every set of chains from high school football through the NFL has that 5-yard mark on their chains.
“Its doubly stupid” “ some garbage at half time”
Imagine al michaels watching the halftime show in disgust as fireworks go off
How do you know that? That's impossible to know! Thank you for saying what we've all been thinking all these years.
I remember being so mad when the pistons beat the lakers in the 2004 nba finals but Al really cheered me up and made me laugh when he went on a rant about how stupid it was to have pyro in an arena bc after the pistons won to win the championship they actually had pyro go off to celebrate. LOL
The funniest thing is seeing the bears having 10 wins.
Inukshuk Entertainment Not funny anymore. Even more not funny because Cleveland is winning games
Bears reached the Super Bowl that year
God I love al, best announcer imo
The Texas Stadium Massacre 🙂
I remember last season he was roasting on qualcolmm stadium calling it "the sardine can" during a chargers vs patriots games. He said a few other things making fun of its age but I cannot recall the exact words xD
"Some garbage at halftime" 🤣
Al Michaels is the GOAT!
I Guess Al Michaels Hates Fireworks in Any Sports Stadium/Arena!
Gotta love Al and Cris. No one else does it better right now.
sucks that Al is retiring soon, Al and Cris are easily the greatest commentating duo in the history of sports, make every game a joy to watch.
watsupjew Jim Nantz and Tony Romo are good.
@@therealmvp2717 I want Romo with someone better like Kevin Burkhardt or Mike Tirico.
Chris Collinsworth will never be on the same level like John Madden was at commentating!!!!!
“Because of some garbage at halftime” LOL Now I NEED to know who was performing the halftime show during that game
totally unrelated to the video, but that fair use explanation is the first time I've seen someone actually use it properly
I was a sophomore in high school when I watched this game 😢
*Al doesn't laugh unless he really finds it funny :) I love 'em.*
0:20 what happened to scoreboard is tilt
Years later I'm still trying to figure out how a 5 yard penalty isn't a 1st down 🤣
4th and 5 and 3" is totally farcical.

lol love Al Michaels
He wasn't wrong...
I had turn on the subtitles to understand lul
LMAO...I WAS WATCHING FRANK CALIENDO AND HES RIGHT ABOUT JOHN MADDEN. ITS LIKE "JOHN, YOURE ON RADIO! PEOPLE CANT SEE YOU!"
This man is speaking like how I would if I was a commentator
Gerry Austin was the referee in this game.
If you turn the subtitles, it says Jerry Austin
1:40 vinny vinesauce moment
Does anyone know what the halftime performance was at this particular game
Sean Payton still the OC interesting
1:50 - Al Michaels exposes how refs can fix games
These two are a poor mans Andy Gray and Richard Keys
Is there any way he could have a contract with 2 networks and replace Joe Buck for the World Series? Please?!
Candy Banks Nah he’s waaaaayyyy better at football baseball. It’s the other way around to Joe Buck
4th and 5 and 3inches
No Good! Wide Right!
Can He Get In? No He Cannot!
Do You Believe In Miracles?!!!
I can't believe he's gone. He will be missed. R.I.P. AL !!
We just gonna ignore dallas getting destroyed?
Garbage at halftime. Lmfao
